I do them! I really like them. They are easy but you still get a great workout from them! I rotate the DVDs and do different ones depending on what mood I'm in. Monday I did a 2 mile one with weights and boy did that kick me in the butt! My legs are just starting to feel better. Yesterday I was so sore, going to the bathroom hurt!!!
Enjoy the dvds! They are great.

Can u use these dvd's with a treadmill? If so I would be really interested. I am looking for ways to combine weights into my walking routine. Let me know! Thanks :)

Are you walking in place? or around in circles?

Fri, Mar-17-06, 12:00
No you cannot use them with a treadmill. It's not just walking, but all the steps are easy. Nothing complicated and fancy.
You walk in place for the majority, but you also move a little bit too. If you don't have room, you can still do everything in one spot. They really are great DVDs!

Love it! That's how I lost my 16 pounds. I'm 61 so I have to do low impact and this workout is perfect. Constent is the key; do it regulary and it will work wonders. I do it six days a week. I have the VHS and have not been able to find the DVD. Hope to locate one soon. I just love this workout!

Hey there. I worked out and I did the 3 mile express. I need to get the strechy band. :)

Alleine, most of it is walking in place, like marching in place. There are some things that are side-to-side steps, etc.
I love the series. I have been doing the 3-mile, and today I ordered the 5-mile. I cannot WAIT to get my hands on it!

I went to www.lesliesansone.com to order the 5-mile DVD. It's a 60-minute DVD, so it's pretty fast. The miles run anywhere from a 10-minute mile to a 13-minute mile, if I remember correctly. You can watch a brief clip from it at the website.

Hey, Gang! I got the 5-mile WATP DVD yesterday and tried it out this morning. I got through the whole 5 miles, and I love it! This DVD has menu selections, so you can select the whole 5-mile walk or a 3-mile walk with weights, for example. I'm very happy with it.
My muscles can definitely tell they've been worked today!

I use Netflix and tried one of the DVDs.
I love it. It suits my needs:
- low impact
- good workout in 30 minutes
- easy to do
I lift weights on alternate days, so I do not want to have any weight training on my days off. I am also extremely uncoordinated and don't have a lot of room to jump around. I also refuse to exercise on the floor.
I'm a size 16/18 and smoke three packs of cigarettes a day. These are perfect for someone just starting out. I can keep up for 30 minutes and it should be fairly easy to work my way up to an hour every other day.

I have Leslie's 1, 2, and 3 mile express DVDs [came in a package with that stretch band thing] and I freaking LOVE them! They're actually....gasp....fun! They make me want to exercise.
And it's so easy to do. This series gets an A+++++ from me!

Just upgraded to the Walk/Jog tapes.
Nice workout - I actually sweat with this one and feel like I'm giving my heart a good workout. Only 30 minutes, so I can do it four times a week easily.

I love this series of DVDs it really gets you started again or up if you never exercised in your life. I am at the point of running in place when she says walk and you will be suprise how much more intensity will bring to your work out .
It is funny I found her lesile on night while surfing though Comcast On-Demand exercise TV it rocks it has full work out of everything like you can find mirical mile than go to a abs video its cool best 3.99 a month I have spent in long time lol

Finally bought a DVD instead of renting them - Walk and Kick.
It adds some kickboxing moves, which manage to keep my heart rate up. It's not as hard on the lungs as I'd like, but those kicks sure help with the back of the thigh and butt!

I really think anybody who is mobile enough to walk at least a block could get through a beginning DVD.
They're also great for the uncoordinated. I'm trying to talk my sister into doing them - she can't get to the gym because of her two kids and her crazy job, but these are easy enough to do with your kids.

Why would one choose to stay inside and stare at a tv instead of going outside to walk?

It's over 100 degrees where I am, and the sun is brutal -- I'm not walking out in that if I can avoid it. Some people live in crime ridden areas, or areas where walking outdoors isn't safe or pleasurable for some other reasons. Still others would just rather stay inside -- maybe they don't feel comfortable exposing themselves to the view and judgments of others, maybe they figure they would rather do two activities (walking and watching TV) and save time. I like walking outside myself, but can understand why other people would prefer not doing it. Better walking indoors than not at all.

Lucky you guys -- don't get those DVDs here in India -- but I got a nice li'l steep hill just outside my door, practically, and I feel as nimble as a mountain-goat with 3 months of huffing-puffing up it :)

Lucky! I miss hiking in my back yard in Colorado.
In Florida, it is far, far too humid, sticky, and swampy to walk outside past 7 a.m. Ever feel exhausted just by getting off your porch? That's Florida from late May to October.

My neighborhood has a lot of loose dogs so I drive to the local mall or to a shopping center to walk.
I'd like to try these DVDs. I usually walk 30-45 minutes at a moderate/fast pace. Would these be good to try?

Chelles, you gotta try the summer heat in India -- we are in the middle of it -- the temp goes up to 40 Celsius -- I'm sure Florida would be balmy compared to that. But heat, or humidity, or sticky never ever bothered me -- I'm one of those who just lurrrvvvs the sweat-out :)
NoBread -- we got a lot of stray dogs out here too -- but, being a dog lover, I just make friends with them -- actually it's they who make friends -- some of them even accompany me up and down.
But, getting back to walking -- I cut down my time covering the same distance by almost 15 mins today, naturally. Yaaaaayyy!!!
So from tomorrow I'm gunna increase my distance, to cover for the 15 mins -- Woo-hooooo!!!

Hi Soulmia, Great idea! I'm in Pune -- have lived and survived the Delhi heat too -- Also lived in Bangalore -- will be a lovely change for you. I don't msn, but let's keep in touch via email -- mine's mmebutterflie~yahoo.com --
Yeah, I know how it is -- with a veggie curry rich Indian food, things can get a bit monotonous -- Luckily for westerners, their food habits are already geared towards protein, so they have much more variety..
But hey, we got our tikkas, boti-kababs and tandoori-murghs, don't we heh, heh :)

I'm going to need to find something when winter comes. I find exercise of any kind extremely boring for some reason. I finally found that walking with my iPod while listening to music or an audio book is makes it easier, but I'm wondering if standing in front of the tv makes it even better? Right now I walk in the morning and at night, both for only about 20 minutes. I know...I know...20 minutes isn't going to do anything. I just started so I will increase it 5 minutes a week. My muscles are killing me. LOL!
Do I need to listen to it or is it easy once you learn the routine so I can continue the iPod.
Thanks!

Hey all! I drive a truck and it's not alway safe in the truckstop to walk alone. So I love the WATP dvds. I actually check them out of the local library about once a month. That way I never get bored and don't spend extra money. I have a space in my truck between the seats and in front of my bed that is approximately 3x2 feet. With only a little adjustment I can do the exercise. I'm not fit enough to really do more than 1/2 mile (7 minutes) right now about every 3rd day. But I know it's there and I don't have to worry about the heat cause I can crank up the Air Conditioning. I have to be careful of the heat. I pass out extremely easily in any temperature over 70 degrees Farenheit. Summers really are not fun for me. I mean it's bad when you get heat exhaustion when you're actually swimming! Good luck to everyone....

I'm dredging this thread up from the archives... Is anyone still doing WATP? I just ordered a DVD as it is impossible to get a decent workout when you have a toddler in tow. I figure I can use it while he's asleep!

Hi AngelaUK,
Thanks for dragging this thread out of the archives. I have been on this board for a year and a half and this is the first time I have even checked the exercise board.
I have been using WATP three days a week for the last sixteen months and still enjoy the workouts. I use three different DVDs but began my workouts with only one. It took me a little over three weeks to work myself up to three miles, but I did it.
I do alternate WATP with weight training and also use my Bowflex three times a week. I do take one day a week as my day off.
I am really pleased with the way my body is toning up and plan to continue with what I have been doing.
I would love to hear what you think of the workout once you get started.
Good luck!

I have been using WATP nearing a month now. While I am not thrilled with Leslie (poor cuing, mismatched sets, poor camera shots), I do like the results of the walking program in itself. That said, once you understand the basics, its easy to alter movements to your liking.
My plan is to continue with four mile walks for cardio six days a week. I will also alternate between 20 minute resistance strengthening exercises and 2 mile morning walks.
I do need to knock off another 20 pounds; however, my goal is for the cardio to increase my overall health and the resistance work to strengthen and tone.

Hi everyone! I LOOVE Leslie and I am really grateful for her approach to exercise . She is not intimidating at all for those who are either out of shape, have not exercised in years, have injuries, older or just feel depressed in general about exercise! She is very positive. She will always tell you that it doesn't really matter if your'e doing it exactly right so long as you are moving . That helps me keep my focus. I dug out my WATP tapes and have been doing them. If you have exercise tv she has 1, 2 and 3 mile workouts that she made specifically for exercise tv. I have been doing 3 miles most days but sometimes when I get bored, I will do her 2 mile and then 1 mile just to get something different. I also have netflix now and I can order different ones there. I know for a fact that it works even though it is low impact and not nearly as hardcore as others . I lost a lot of weight doing it before and I will again. Once you learn the basic steps you can also do it yourself to your own music or while watching tv. You may feel stupid (as I do at times) but who cares! I will do the 4 basic steps while watching tv or watching something online. Of course if you do that you may notice your pace is not as quick as hers but you are still getting some moving in .

Hey walkers! I have resurrected my walk/jog dvd. The walk/kick that someone mentioned sounds good, too. How's everyone doing?

I have been consistently doing the 4 mile walk about five days a week; sometimes I will make it for six and others times not. I have also added in resistance band training for strengthening purposes.
I am actually ordering the WATP 5 Day/Mile Slim Down to alternate my routine with the 5 Day/Mile Fat Burn. This version seems to have particularly good reviews and it appears to be just Leslie by herself during the entire workout.
I lost about 3 pounds within the last month and a half. I feel like I get a good workout with WATP but without the feeling of being too intense on my body.
