Hi
I have been food combining since new year 06 and i feel like i'm the only one in the world as no-one i know has a clue what i'm doing. I would love to find some SS buddies. I'm going to post this too in the buddies section but thought i'd try here as well.

hello, i just picked up the book last week at the library and started somersizing monday. i also just read the book "fit for life, not fat for life" and it follows the same concept but explains the reasons why we should be eating the food combining way in much more detail than somers book. i must say, its only been 3 days, but i have never felt so alert and energized. i just can't wait for the meltdown!! anyways, i'd love to join and chat with you ladies

Hi and great to have you all onboard.
I have been following the programe for all of 2006 (started xmas eve - yes i'm insane) and initially i had an increadible result. I lost very quickly but stalled also after 4 weeks. That really is more to do with my thyroid. It is however starting to move again and i guess i was tempting fate by having the odd cheat here or there. So now i'm cheat free and the loss is slowly but surely happening again. main point is during my stall i never gained!
Dinahb
The basics of the program (somersizing anyway oh and montignac which i suspect somers stole it from anyway!) are that you are alowed to eat fruit, veg, and selected meats, fats and grains. sugars and high starch foods are out. Foods are divided into specific groups and you must not combine the groups.
The alowable groups are:
fruits
vegies
carbs (whole grain)
fats/protiens
Out are:
sugars, starches, white anything, potatoes corn etc and some badly combined foods such as liver, avocado coz they have carbs and fats.
It's all about insulin release and if you are eating insulin realeasing foods then you don't include fats in your meal.
so....
You must have fruit alone (not with any other group) and always on an empty stomach. at least 3 hours after eating or upon rising. After fruit you need to wait an hour before having another food group.
Carbs/Whole grains can be eaten with legal vegies but NO fat
Protiens are grouped with fats are ok with legal vegies
If you have eaten a carb meal you must wait 3 hours before changing to a protien meal and visa versa.
You need to drink a lot of water and are encouraged not to skip meals. There are no calories or carbs to count and you eat until you are satisfied. No piggin out though LOL
Snacks are fine as long as you don't cross into the different groups
eg if you had a carb lunch you wouldn't be able to have a piece of cheese unless it was 3 hours after.
Personally i have stayed away from the carb meals coz i am so metabolicaly resistant.
There are also some other variants with dairy. i don't drink milk so it doesn't effect me too much but it goes like this:
butter cream cheese etc are protiens coz the carbs are non existent
non fat dairy products are in the carb group
low fat is out because it's carbs with some fat
I borrow the books from the local library but i've borrowed it so many times i'm thinking i should buy it. I love the foods they are delicious and the variety is as broad as your imagination so it doesn't feel like a diet of depravation but a new way of life.
I agree with the others if nothing else my digestion is greatly improved. :)
kashmiere just to warn you that you may have headaches early on because you will be sugar detoxing. Drink lots of water and hang in there coz it's worth it.
I am looking forward to staying in touch and hearing everyone's progress.

skinnyray,
thanks for the warning, yesterday was the headache day, i couldn't stand it. but yesterday was also the 1st day i ate fruit til noon but then i didn't get to eat lunch til 2 hrs later and it just killed me. so this a.m. i brought 2 hard boiled eggs to eat at least 1 hr after my last piece of fruit. hopefully that will help with the headache factor. this is my 5th day and i already feel a little leaner. i haven't got on the scale tho, i'm not a scale watcher, it messes with my head too much. maybe once my clothes start fitting better i'll get on that scale just to keep me on track cuz i'm sure after 3-4 wks i usually get tempted to sway to the cheat side. at least by having you guys as buddies, we'll be able to keep each other accountable. good luck everyone!!

skinny ray what is the CCNO you were mentioning? and the yeast die off? why do i have a sugar craving after lunch, i've been doing good at not eating a dessert or chocolate afer lunch this week. but all last week i was indulging in chocolate after lunch, and it gave me gass. this week my gass is under control because i haven't been doing this, i just eat my protein veggie lunch, and then be done... today i ate granola after 3 hours after lunch, and i know granola has high sugar and is not good for you, but i crave these carbs. . i will wait to eat protein for dinner. a

Hi to all, i was surprised to see all your posts
i was away having a good time this w/e. We have a festival on at the moment and it's been great (except very easy to get tempted)
I'll try my best to answer all your questions but keep in mind that i am not an expert and I am only new to this myself.
kashmiere
it sounds like you are doing well. I think you did well and wise to have your egg.
if i can make a suggetion I would recommend you try to only have 1 serve of fruit and then have protien for breaky. The reason for this is that if you have too many carbs then you are still going to crave carbs.
ptouch
It sounds to me that you are overdoing it but there is a way to combat your carb cravings. Protien, protien protien. Did i mention protien. :D If you are hungy go for protien and the cravings will stop but you have to stop feeding them. It takes time to retrain the body.
I had really bad carb cravings so to combat this i incorporated the south beach idea of 2 weeks without any carbs in the form of processed carbs, fruit and starches. What i found is that after the 1st day or 2 I didn't want carbs but i kept that up for 2 weeks. Lots of protien and salads or vegies.
If i needed a snack i'd have a boiled egg, some celery or some cheese etc.
Try this and then as i suggested to kashmiere just have 1 serve of fruit for breaky and see how you go. Add carbs gradually and see how you go. I am only just after 11 weeks finding I can have a carb breakfast without craving carbs too much but i only do that 1-2 times a week. Slowly slowly i say.
A word on carbs. The type of carbs is very important. Low glycemic and whole grain. Forget white anything and sugar is NOT your friend.
If i need a bit of chocolate I up the protien.
Fish is great.
Soy is debatable as there are lots of studies to show it can work against the thyroid which is my problem. I went onto soy about 10 years ago and interestingly that's about the time my thyroid slowed down. *raises eyebrows* :) If you are having soy and cereal make sure it is fat free. I just gave up on cereal coz it seems to make me crave carbs too much anyway. I am going to get some soon but i'll stick to rice milk or cows milk. (fat free of course)
CCNO is coconut oil. I buy a pure virgin coldpressed oil. I take it before a protien meal and I am experimenting with the dose as I have had an adverse reaction (yeast die off)
Re combining protien I have read somewhere that this is not a good idea and so i try to stick to one thing at a time. I guess you could experiment and note if it makes a difference.
I really recomend you keep a daily food journal. I have done this and still am and it helps immensley. (sp?)
Hi skeeweeaka - sounds like you too are doing well. You are wise to go with what works for you.
cheers for now

hello everyone, i must've been busy myself, i haven't posted in a while. well, i still haven't touched the scale, but i did try on a pair of jeans this a.m. that i put on 2 wks ago and they fit much better, still snug, but i didn't have to lay on the bed and squeeze into them like before  it's working, it's working, it's working!!!! i finally found a plan that works!!! my hubby was out of town for over a week and i started this woe when he left. i picked him up at the airport last night and right away he said "gee, honey, did you lose some weight? you look great!!" i just know that whatever i'm doing, it's working, i started exercising at least 5x week, i cut way back on splenda, maybe 1-2 packets a day, i'm still having fruit in the a.m., but its low glycemic and then about 2 hrs later, i'll eat 2 hard boiled eggs, then salad and protein for lunch, maybe a hard boiled egg after work, then salad, veggies and protein for dinner. i also have a level 1 desert in the evening too! for some reason i feel i need desert. maybe like you said skinnyray, the fruit in a.m. still has me craving desert. i'll cut back and see what happens tomorrow. all i know is i feel much better, sleep way better and my clothes are finally starting to fit better.
how is everyone else doing?

damn you are right about feeding myself protein and the carb cravings go away. today i ate three serveings of fruit from 8till 11am, at 12, i'm drinking a soy protein shake.
last nite when i was stressed, tired, upset cuz of work, after work, i went to trader joes and i was so tempted to get c hips/cookies, healthy ones... but i i forced (it was sooo hardd)myself to get egg salad and nuts.
well nuts are not good cuz i have a tendency to over eat nuts
but atleast i ate protein and then my carb cravingwent away. and i felt full.
i definitely ate too many nuts though. i think i ate two cupz, thats like waaaay too mcuh fat and cals.
but i didn't have gass. which was good.
today i feel ready to realy cut the carbs out. i'm ging to cut cereal out too because when i first did food combining 1 year ago, i cut out carbs and it got easy to not want cereal.
yea the soy thing... how did you know your thyroid got slower...
do you eat chicken? i don't like meat.
i'm an ovo- pescatarian so i eat fish and veggie and eggs.
so i was thinking soyu /tofu woudl be good sources of protein for me.. but hmmm maybe i shouldn't eat too much of it...

Thanks Mr E. I have visited Dean's journal. It is very inspiring! (not sure if i could eat just the same thing everyday tho)
way to go kashmiere. don't you love it when those close to you notice!
ptouch I do eat chicken but I only buy free range organic fed because not only is it much more tender and tastier (the difference is very obvious) but I don't like the idea of loading myself with all the steroids and antibiotics they feed chickens. Caged chickens seem so unhealthy to me.
Fish and eggs are great sources of protien. I'm not sure about tofu. (it's protien but it might be a carb/protien/fat combo) In somer's book she says if you don't eat meat then it's ok - will have to check on that. Do you have the book? For me soy is not good for thyroid so i avoid it now but i have read that tofu/soy sauce are fermented and so are ok but not straight soymilk.
Re the slow thyroid i don't know how it got slow but it has been the reason I put on weight for sure. It makes me tired and sluggish and this diet really helps energise me.
have a great day all

grape fruit
black berries
raspberries
tea
waited 1 hour
11am - soy milk and protein powder
12pm - 4 egg whites cooked
2pm - salad with lots of veggies and tuna fish salad
4pm 1/4 cup of mixed unsalted nuts
530pm - the leftovers of salad with veggies/tunafish
9on 1 cup of soymilk - i was so hungry after working out.

Hi ptouch
I know what you mean about being hungry. I did my yoga class last night and came home starving. I had 4 slice of cheese. The scale didn't move and I suspect it's coz i prob ate too many calories with all that cheese.
Your menu looks ok but if I may as far as somersizing goes you probably should avoid nuts because they are protien/fat/carb combo which is not allowed. You are allowed to eat them after you reach your goal but not during the w/loss period. I guess the same goes for soymilk if it has fats in it.
Regarding my workouts i am doing oxysise when i can and yoga too. I try to get out in the garden as well coz that's good for you and I'm just starting some strength training from a book called 'strong women stay young'. it's written by an aussie dr who ran some studies on strength training. It's real easy stuff you can do at home with a chair and some weights.
keep up the good work and stay with it!

so youre right abo ut the nuts, plus i have problems controlling myself on nuts. they are too good sometimes. the firsttiime i food combined i cut them out and just didnt' want them.
i like how food combingin basically encourages u to cut out a lot of things like those damn protein bars. really bad food combos and i usually have sugar lows on them or gas problems from them
today i weighed in at 138.5! which is good for me becuse ive been stuck at 141.5 -143 for a while now. i deally i want to be 125, i know that will be hard, i'll be hapy with 134 too.
but i've been doing pretty good this week stacking protein.
i need to keep it up cuz lastnite i almost binged
i need to throw out junk in my house. i have soy dream that i bought last week cuz i thought it was healthy
but too much sugar and no protein!
i def feel so much better not eating starchy things. i got in this bad habit of eating carbs, even if they were whole grain ones, like i'd binge on whole grain crackers, or fat free oatmeal cookies. too many calories.

Hi Ptouch
You sound like you are on track. Much like you I too think it's better to throw things out if you are still in the habit of eating bad foods just coz they are there.
I went to a g/friends wedding around xmas time and she had the most wonderful looking choc cake. I was only 2 days into food combining and i felt very tempted. The cake sat next to me all the way home begging me to taste it. :D When I got home I threw it straight into the bin outside. It was a very bitter sweet moment but you just have to do it.
I keep telling myself that if it really matters i can eat it when and only when i reach my goal. There will always be more of whatever you think you can't live without LOL
Keep up the good work

when you get stressed go for a walk or do some situps or put some music on and dance! that's my way of coping with stress... well last month i had bad habits of eating when stressed.
but i thought about u and things you write me encourage me to stick to it. well i did OKAY , i danced hard on saturday nite, but somehow that justified me binging at nite on sunday SHIT! i ate soy ice cream, like 2 cups of it which was like 500 cals .
i am really quitting nuts for good now, just until i get weight off. i also ate 200 cals worth of cookies on sunday. but at least it stopped at 200 cals and i din't eat the whole box like i coudl have before. and then i felt like shit cuz i was doing so good.
sincei dance hard saturday nite somehow i justified eating those cookies. argh.
i went shopping and i felt fat trying on stuff, didnt' buy much, which was good to savemoney but it did encourage me to reallly cut fat looking at myself inthe mirror . my sis ter is skinny, sheeats starches and is built different than me and it's really frustrating that i eat way healthier than her but i am like 4 sizes larger. she's a 4 at most and i'm like 7/8 soemtimes 9
i decided i will not buy clothes till i'm a 7/8 for sure again.
sunday i even ate chickin, cuz i neede dprotein. and i havenot eaten chickin in like 1 year. but it was good quality so i did it. and it was better than eating the candy bars that were around where i was.
but today i'm back on track. i worked outthis morning, started w/ grafefuit and an apple,
i think this week i'm going to cut soyout all together just to see what happens.

Hi ladies! well it sounds like everyone is on the right track. well another week gone by of this woe and i feel great. don't think i've lost too much this last week but i tracked all my calories on fitday and last week my avg calories were 1800 and the first week they were in the range of 1550. so this week i'm trying to stay in the 1500 range and i'm cutting my fruit mornings to 2-3 mornings a week. maybe next week i'll be brave and jump on the scale. i'm just so afraid of that #, plays with my head too much. i've been working out too about 4-5 days/week but it came to a halt this week, i'm getting a cold.

strangely enough, i ate the salad, the cheese, the beef and didn't get gassy. and felt full.
what do you guys eat for dinner at nite/?
do you work out in the mornings?
do you guys eat goat yogurt. i'm going to start eating it again for protein . i remember i didn't hur tmy stomach.

but if i eat, even if it's 3 hours before bedtime, the next morning my weight is up. frustrating. i'm going to watch ot portions today. i think i ate too much yesterday...

Hi to all
Great to see all of you being supportive of each other, kind of makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
I had a look at the chart and I thought it was interesting but I don't think it fits entirely into somersizing because im not sure if it is saying you can eat fats with the starches or not. Other than that it is prob a good guide. It is pretty much the program. I have never thought about fruit and dividing it into categories but there could be something in that.
As for beef yes i eat it. Beef, pork, chicken, fish and lamb are my main protien sources as well as eggs. I try to avoid cured meats coz i know they aren't too good for the liver. If the liver is not happy the weight loss is slow/non existent.
One thing we haven't talked about much is water. I think I loose more when I drink more. I drink at least 2 ltrs and sometimes 3. The more you drink the more you feel the need to drink. Water is essential along with oxygen to break down fat so considering those two go together it makes sense to drink and move. very important to get oxygen into your blood cells for vitality too.
To all of you (and i am only the thread starter not the guru LOL) I would urge you all to think about this as not a diet but as a new way of life and eating. Make sure you are well stocked up with snacks should you need them to avoid binging on anything.
I would also like to suggest that you try EFT or TFT. (emotional freedom technique or thought field therapy) They are very similar but i prefer EFT as I have had good experience with that. I used it to get over my cookie and sweet addiction and within 15 minutes i had it licked! I haven't touched either one since the treatment in December 05. It is something you can learn in one session and do yourself to treat anything from addiction to phobias.

I love to eat and I really enjoy cooking and coming up with new exciting things to excite my taste buds.
Often however dinner is a rush so a typical dinner would be,
Steak or chicken with herbs or spiced and served with salad. My salads are made up of mixed lettuce leaves and then I add some sliced red capsicum, cucumber, red onion, snowpeas and some sprouts and cherry tomatoes. I dress them with olive oil and they taste great. I also add herbs like corriander or basil if i've got it.
:yum:
One thing I do is i make a large salad - enough for 6 people. That way it's ready to take to work or if i'm out shopping. I don't dress it until about to eat it. That way it will last for up to 4-5 days (if there's any left - also i use cherry tomatoes because you if you don't cut them they will not make the salad mushy)
This is one of my favourite stand by meals.
Re meat, i am not too adventurous, or maybe i'm impatient so i like to have something easy. I often use rubs. What's a rub you ask. To make a rub use a 1/2 cup of olive oil and add your favourite seasoning. Rub it onto both sides of the meat and let it sit for 10 - 30 mins. Easy. Store it in a jar if there is any left over. You can make pepper rubs, spicy rubs etc.
Any of the sommersize books are worth getting. She has some great recipies in there. Dinahb you could start with any book. I found mine at the local library. I like them all. Prob my fav is 'eat great lose weight'.
ciao for now

yes it's good, but with food combining, ihave to time out my water intake so that i drink 15 minutes before any food, and don't drink till 2hours after food. for it to feel allright, because i read drinking fluids w/ food slows down digestion. what doyou think.
i also know it's good to drink like a gal of water a day. i have no problem drinking lots in themoring and during work outs.

Ptouch I personally don't buy into all that water malarky. I drink when i'm thirsty and I don't worry about timing my intake. I have read about waiting before eating but once I have started eating I go for it if i'm thirsty. Now that i think about it I do tend to drink more between meals but i don't worry about waiting 2 hours. Maybe 1/2 hr.
Anyone else have any thoughts on drinking?

skinnyray - i checked out that EFT site and i found it very interesting. I gave it a whirl, trying to beat the "sweets craving". so far i think its working but time will tell. i haven't really felt any noticeable changes in my weight this week, actually i feel like i've stalled. maybe this is why i need to jump on that dang scale :( , who knows i may of lost 1 lb or even .5 lb. i'd be happy with that. i have noticed and read on ss site that cream cheese/cream can cause alot of stalls. i've been eating cream cheese desserts every night and its hard to stay away from. I LOVE MY SWEETS!!
as far as my other meals, i have eggs/sausage for breakfast (2-3 days during the week i'll eat fruit); mid snack, 2 hard boiled eggs; for lunch its tuna/chicken/salmon/beef with a salad, i recently started using olive oil and lemon juice for dressing; snack a hard boiled egg or a piece of cheese; dinner i'll have chicken/salmon/beef/pork with steamed veggies and a salad. i drink water thruout the day, about a gallon and i don't follow all those rules either. i usually don't drink anything about 1/2 before i eat but sometimes its hard and i usually drink water right after eating but very rarely during my meals. in the morning i drink decaf green tea or herbal tea.
i haven't worked out all week but i like to strength train at least 2 days a week, do a pilates tape one day and cardio (treadmill or aerobic tape) 2 - 3 days a week.
I have a question you might be able to answer skinny ray. in suzanne's book she talks about hormonal imbalances affecting your weight loss. my husband and i are trying to get pregnant and i had to see a fertility dr. he said my estrogen levels are a little low. could this be affecting my weight loss? he hasn't given me anything for this becuz we'll be starting fertility treatments in the very near future. i was just wondering. i would love to lose just 10-15 pounds before i get pregnant and most likely will follow this woe but on a level 2 basis once i am pregnant. if anything, i feel so much better eating this way and my ibs has gone away.

skinny ray -
i read you journal but i'll post reply here so kashmiere and others can see
i ate meat today too. i had a coupel bites of filet mignon, (crazy, i'm converted from vegetarian now, to eating beef sometimes) and a little fish, and couple bites of lobster tail.
they have catered food here. it's nice, free, and good quality.
figure, eh why not, it's protein!
i definitely notice loading up on pro makesme not want cookies and starch. thanks for those words rai, it rings in my head when i get a craving, to eat a piece of cheese
i eat cheese now too!
i thought it would really cause me gass but it wassn't too bad.
where does chocolate fit in? i really want dark chocolate sometimes, but i know food combinging says no desert.
i have done 4 days of meat/fish/eggs/veggies/ only too
i feel great tho ugh. definltey better mood and feel energized.
whatsup w/ your ccno? u still doin that?
what is Atkins induction style intake
well all ican say is eat pro if u want bread!
i
so yo're gonna eat lo carbs now?
like what kind of carbs
my energy seems pretty high loading up on protein.
although i did get gassy after eating a bite of filet mignon, a bite of lobster tail and a some fish all in one sitting.

Hello  Where has everyone been lately? Well i'm into my fourth week of food combining and honestly i can't see myself eating any other way. i have never felt better. i know when i was doing the body for life plan last year i working myself ragged and eating good but i never saw any results. i always tracked my food intake on fitday and i know my fat was very very low, but yet i never saw the results i was looking for. i just noticed that in the last week not only do i feel better, but now i can see a slight difference in my clothing and i swear to god my hair grew overnight, no more ibs problems and i sleep so sound! the weight is coming off slowly but hey, it's working right. i didn't put 20 lbs on overnight and i'm not going to lose it overnight either. I got back to my workouts again. Treadmill m & t and today i did a cathe tape, cardio & weights. boy do i remember when that workout used to be so easy and today it felt hard. I haven't worked out since the end of dec. religiously. i was starting back in jan, then i got ill, then at the end of jan i had to have some surgery and that set me back and then i started again when i started this woe then i got sick again and finally i'm back to normal. i'm trying to lose a few lbs before our 1 yr wedding anniversary coming up here in about 5 weeks cuz i know we'll be celebrating good. it'll probably set me back a few but i'll get right back on plan afterwards. my hubby is planning on taking me to niagara falls for a few days. i know i'll pack snacks that are allowed on plan and i'll eat right for my meals but i might cheat on some wine or champagne and a piece of dessert. i know thats bad but c'mon, its our first anniversary!! ;)

I've been lurking in this thread for a while.
I have not really been following any plan properly for the last 8 months. Well, not with any success anyhow. I just recently decided to get back into food combining and give it a real shot, since it had worked for me so well in the past. I have been trying to do stick with "Fit For Life" for two weeks now.
My problem is that I start out following Fit For Life, then I eat with some of Suzanne Somers' rules, then I eat mostly low carb/Atkins style, then throw in a carb meal (a la S Somers) and then I want fruit since it's encouraged on Fit For Life..... its a jumbled mess in my head.
I flip flop around to make these rules apply to whatever the heck I feel like eating at the time.....therefore...I fail!!!!
I'm just in the remorse stage of a silly binge from last night. I suppose that this is a confession of sorts.
Here we go again...another day, another start. Say three Hail Marys and move on. Uggh.

Hey Bet,
Saw your post and thought I would pop in to say hello and keep your head up today... I know what you mean about following different plans... For me it is the same issue, I like sweets and healthier carbs (but have yeast overgrowth) and try to incorporate them at different times. When I want sweets I am trying to plan for them by doing the CAD approach. In a given day if I want a healthy carb I try to follow the Insulin Resistance Approach or Suzanne Sommers approach... It is difficult for me to follow Atkins strictly because it does not provide enough variety and eventually makes me sick to my stomach because if I go too low in carbs, my depression worsens...
Think about the foods that you enjoy, that you find you cannot do without and find a plan that works to suit those needs. Otherwise, you will find yourself binging more and more...that has been my experience and is my new approach... As well as adding good, healthy fats such as the sinful butter, coconut oil, olive oil, fish oils, etc...
Have a good day and PERSIST!!!
Persist
When you're weary, it means you've been making a difference. Keep going and see it through.
When each obstacle is more difficult than the one before, it means you're making real progress. Persist, and make it all count for something great.
The exhaustion you feel is preparing you for the sweet taste of accomplishment that is surely to come. Every effort you make serves to give that accomplishment more value and meaning.
Sure, the way is difficult, and by moving through each difficulty you're creating something that can never be taken away. Keep going, and enjoy the priceless reward of knowing you did it.
As the path become steeper, it means you're nearing the summit. Now is when it's especially important to keep climbing.
Your efforts have already brought you a long, long way. Persist, and enjoy the full rewards of your labor.

hey Skee -
yea did u ever do m/e/ how long did u last for? and what happened, just curious. im just trying it out for like 5days. but i'm not completely doing it sinc ei've been eating plums in the morn.
i am down to 140, i started at 143 last week. and it's really hard for me to get weight off since i think i've been stuck at 140-143 for like 1 year. and i work out and eat heatlhy all the time.
i feel really good today. last nite i had dance practice and usually i have to drink propel water but i didn't have to last nite because i was loaded up on pros from all day of eggs/fish/chicken.
i know that eventually i want to just eat normal foods again, like i love fruits and veggies, but i'm justreally curious to see what would happen if i do this for acouple of days, since i've never gone one day in my life without eating a piece of veggie or fruit!
how do you get yeast overgrowth?
i used to have yeast infections from sex and from working out and not showering right after, but i take a probiotic supplement from braingarden.com
whats the CAD approach.
and the Insulin Resistance Approach
do u believe in those carb blocker pills?
i don't like bacon
yea bingeing, it's scary i was sooooo outta control for like 2 months before i got on this forum, i was snacking on healthy whole grain snacks, nevertheless they were still binges and bad for you. and bingeing on nuts.
but these last couple of days eating meat / pro ( iused to be veggie/pescatarian)
has killed my binging.
do you take flax oil?
ne ways, lemme know how you are doing

Hey guys-
Just read through this thread. I used to do Fit for Life. This
is many years ago when the book first came out. I wasn't
trying to lose weight then - just be healthy. Anyway, having
a lot of digestive problems right now so I think I may do food combining/LC. I don't know if this is yeast overgrowth or what. I don't have a lot of allergenic type foods in my diet - gave up eggs, soy, kinda giving up dairy right now.
I may check out Somers' book out of the library.
Hey BettyLou- haven't seen you for awhile. I can so relate to the plan/combining thing .... lol.

I have been doing atkins now for almost two years (minus falling off the wagon) but i really miss fruit and whole grains. I had lost a great amount of weight on the Somersizing plan years ago. It makes me feel much better than atkins because of the food combination and digestion. So I am going to give it another chance since summer and fresh fruit are everywhere. I started on SS two days ago,and have already lost a few pounds of water weight.

Hello ladies! I am doing really good, but today started my TOM, so I am staying away from the scale. I have had more energy. Cravings haven't been too bad. There have been a couple of nights that I wanted dessert, but had a cup of green tea instead. ( oh I learned the hard way, green tea is not decafinated unless it specifically says so!) The kids have been enjoying all of the fresh fruit in the house. ( I always bought fresh fruit for the kids, even when I was on Atkins, there is just more of it this time of year)

I started somersizing about a week and a half ago. I was on Weight Watchers for a few weeks and lost 18 pounds, but I really wasn't eating all that healthy. I ate way too much sugar, and I would starve myself most of the day so I could have a satisfying dinner. During the time that I was starving, of course, I was cranky.
Now that I'm somersizing, I feel great...really great! I've lost another 2 pounds, my digestion is great - so much less gas and tummy aches. I am eating what I'm allowed to eat. Usually small fruit smoothie in the morning, then shredded wheat and skim milk an hour later, then 3 or 4 hours later I eat a pro/fat/veggies lunch and the same for dinner. I keep all my carb eating in the morning. Once I have my first pro/fat/veggies meal, that's the only type I will eat for the rest of the day.
I haven't cheated at all. My sugar cravings have gone down drastically, I am never "starving", and I don't "pig out" all day. I don't want to weigh myself too often, because weight can fluctuate for so many reasons. I'm thinking once every two weeks should be fine.
It's funny - people who are trying to lose weight through strict calorie reduction have actually gotten angry at me for eating this way. They say things like "there's no way you can lose weight if you eat like that", "I can't believe you're not doing Weight Watchers anymore, you're going to gain back every pound you lost". Or even, "You know I'm trying to diet, why do eat things like that in front of me?". Really strange! My body, my way of eating, my business. lol
Okay, I tend to ramble. I'll keep everyone posted on how I am doing.

Boy I am mad. I made this great casserole with hamburger, spinach, mushrooms, onions, sour cream and cheese. Really good, completely level one. I had some for dinner last night and some for lunch today. I also made some mashed cauliflower that included sour cream. Very tasty. Then, I read something about starch fillers in some foods, so I read the label on the cheap sour cream that I bought. Starch filler, quar gum...ack, all sorts of other things. I should have read the label at the store, I just wasn't thinking. I know it won't kill me, but I've been so conscientious about what I've been eating, and then I see that. I have leftover casserole, but I'm not going to touch another bite of it. And no more cheap sour cream, lol. I guess that will teach me to never assume what is in a food...always read the label.

Tracilee, was it one of the last ingredients, if so, it may have only had trace amounts, so it would not likely cause an imbalance. Ptouch, it is all about the caffeine with me and my one cup of coffee. I used to drink 6-8 cups a day!! I have gone through withdrawl detoxining from caffiene for weeks actually, but I quit smoking almost 2 years ago, and I don't drink, so I can live with my one cup. However, down the line, when I am close to goal weight I may cut it out BUT only if I stop losing:) Have a great day everyone, I gotta leave for work!

butter a glass tray or baking tray,
just mix 4 eggs with pepper, wahtever seasonings you want like dill, curry powder, pepper, garlic, oregano, cilantro, with a bag of spinach that is boiled and drained and chopped up
add some cheese, bacon bits, and put in oven 400degrees for 15 minutes. whallah
i ordered sommersweet of suzannesommers.com, and i'm looking forward to making some sugar free desserts with it, even though most of those desserts are Almost Level ONe treats. who else has read the books?

Hey guys I am back from Costa Rica! It was really hard to stick with the plan while I was away, not because I was in "cheat mode" it was just basically the food choices, and the times that we had meals. For example breakfast buffet with beautiful fruit, but I didn't have the luxury to eat my fruit, wait an hour and then eat a meal. So I tried to keep my calories in check, avoided most alcohol and really didn't snack. My TOM started today (great coming home gift) and I am up about 6 pounds. today i weighe din at 136 yester day i was 134.5
i started up my bikram yoga and sweating my ass ooff.. i feel weak when i practiced dancing last nite... :(
do i need to eat some starch/carb meals
the book says we don't need to eat starches
like u can have pro/fat meals for every meal
this morning i tried a carbo/veggie meal for the first time since i 've started sommeresizing, i had wholewheat tortilla with tomatoes/salsa, salt, and fat free ricotta cheese
it was hardly filling and i prolly wont do it agin cuz i had to wait 3 hours before i can eat protein and such. annyoing
plus since u can't eat fat w/ starches/breads, u can't ev en have olive oil or veggies cooked in butter. what are u supposed to cook your veggies in then? i guess u can't!
i dont' like cereal and non fat milk. i think i'l lresort to eatin gjust the pro / fats
how is everyodoing going??!?!
i'm still dancing, i have a battle tonite, i'm worried about my energy levels since i was sick last week for like a whole week w/ flue etc, i'm starting to feel it again though....
my c lothes fit better!!!!
i'm sold to sommersizing!
has anyone made deserts yet?
the icecream mixes are sooooo good but sold out!!
does anyone know if coconut oil i sokay to cook in, i know she said coconuts are not good to eat. they are bad food combo!
lizzyLC
Fri, Jul-28-06, 11:00
I think coconut oil is a no, no. But hey we all know now that
it's good for you. You could give it a shot and see if it has
negative effects regarding your weight or digestion.
I used to do Bikrams - then I injured myself - so now I
do a less strenuous form cause the injury always comes
back. I let the instructor push me and they should never
do that. Your practice is just that, YOURS.
I tried a carb meal. Had the same reaction as you - starving!
Montignac says you can have a little olive oil with your
carb meals. I tried a low fat cottage cheese with some
whole grain crackers. Not very tasty. Then I tried some
soba noodles with vegies - not very fun either.
I won't be trying desserts unless it's a small one that just
needs minimal sweetening from Stevia. I don't use any other
artificial sweetners.

I Love the summersize books, and did lose weight real fast a few years back on her plan, maybe I should try that again? I am having a hard time sticking to anything else. so frustrating!. her books are motivating (cause she is sooo pretty) lol, and for some reason it was easy for me to stick with,
if I remember right I lost about 8 pounds the first week and continued to lose pounds fast , but ofcourse like all weightloss programs you lose the more weight in the beginning of the program. I need to buy her books again because the ones I read a few years back were library books so I had to give them back and , thankyou for this thread because I had completely forgot about the summersize plan. I think I am gonna try it again. I will let you know how I do on it this time!. Love Lisa

u should go back to it again..... letmme knwo how it goes...

Thankyou, actually I lost the first 60 pounds doing a combination of atkins and juice fasting, and then when my weightloss slowed down I went to my local library and thats where I found the somersize book took it home and read it and started her program, and then I was able to get down to 120 pounds but after getting married in 2004 I started eating bad foods again and have gotten back up to 160 pounds :( , but thats okay I know that I can get back on the somersize program and get back down to 120 pounds soon!, might not come off as fast as it did when I was 33 I am soon aproaching 37 in september but thats okay, anyway just wanted to thankyou for this thread I dont know how but I had completely forgot about somersize until reading your post, I think its easyer to stay on the somersize program because she allows fruit you just have to eat it alone and wait an hour after eating fruit before eating anyting else, anyway this time I will buy her books instead of borrowing from the library ( I wont have to give them back and risk forgeting about the program again) and this time it will not be a diet but a way of life for me :yum: , thankyou again and I will post my progress as it the weight comes off.

I love the concept. Must admit that I messed up a few time - it was accidental - guess that's to be expected. I sure don't feel like I've lost any weight, but probably all the dumb things I did, i.e. buying prepackaged coleslaw & salad (all those carrots) and a few more things like that. The hardest thing has been for me to give up my diet Mt. Dew. That, along with no sugar and I keep a headache, which makes me sleepy so no energy around here yet.

:) Hi skinnyRay,
I have been adivised that Montignac is similar to Somersizing so I was going to research her but you have done that for me. I see a basic difference already and that is Montignac does allow low-fat. I know that carbs & fats cannot be eaten together so this did confuse me. Also low-fat yoghurt can be eaten with fruit, infact that is my usual breakfast. What do Somersizers have for breakfast?

okay so the thing ILOVE about sommersizing is i don't have to count calories, i have not been writing a diet journal, but i have been steadily keeping below 140 by just eating no startch, no carbs, no sugar, sticking to sommersizing rules level 1
i stay full all day, the on ething i think i do wrong sometimes i eat just two meals aday, becuase i get so full from one large meal around midday that i only eat another one around 6pm and them i'm done for the day.
i notice i drop lbs if i don't eat after 8pm.
every week i fluctuate. usually friday i'm the lightest from the weeks working out, eating well, yoga everymorning, then weekend comes, i 'm still activ e , but somehow i eat more on weekends?
hmmm... so i was 139.5 this morning! but last week i was 134
the ligthest ive been so far. i'd like to break the 134 mark this week if i can. i just am grateful that this works i'm i'm not 143.5 anymore. i can see it in my abs.
i am dancing wayyy better. too..

Just a quick hello. I've read Dean's story and was so inspired. I have read ever diet book out there but have been unable to loose much weight in the past 4 years and have gain 40 lbs. I know why, I eat too many carbs!
So today, I've make a commitment to start again. Thanks to all of you.
I was 168 a few months ago doing Marilu Henner's food combining,176 when I started. Her program works too, except with Somersizing, you can have beef and dairy. Although I'd lost 15 lbs over the course of last year, I'm back up to 178 again.Thought I'd try food combining again due to health issues. High blood pressure and cronic constipation (caused by the blood pressure medicine).
Short term goal...My son is getting married in 7 weeks and I'd like to be about 14 lbs. lighter.
And finally, No, I'm not a size 8 as my name is posted. But that's my long term Goal!
Angela, Size 8, currently size 14 pants, 16 shirts. I don't wear dresses, too large on top...ha!

Well, I found out my thyroid is underactive and so I've gone from one 'diet' to yet another and my weight just doesn't budge - but I believe it will now that I'm on meds (just 2 weeks now and it may take time). I do like food combining. I think I'll watch my calorie intake along with food combining and low fat and less processed foods (which I haven't been doing much of) and NO sugar or white stuff! I don't think we're in the majority of 'dieters' but that's okay so long as we hang together.

I had been doing Montignac's The French Diet, but I think it's easier to find people doing Somersize, so I've picked up some of her books. There are differences, but it's mostly the same, so it doesn't seem quiet some overwhelming.
Today I made suzanne's beef stew, though I'd like to find some way to make it thicker. Cream maybe? It was the first time I'd had celery root. And also cauliflower au gratin from one of montignac's books, cauliflower, gruyere, and cream.
Does anyone know if all pumpernickel bagels are legal? I have a hard time finding bagels that are legal, ones made with whole grain or multigrain seem to also have sugar, honey, and/or molasses. But both Suzanne and Montignac had listed pumpernickel as a good choice, so I bought a few of those.

Hey everyone,
How's this plan working for everyone?
Dark - it is hard to find bread that doesn't have sugars or a bunch of ingrediants that I've never heard of. I think pumpernickel and rye are generally lower in carbs. I sometimes eat Ezekial bread which doesn't have sugars and is "fairly" LC.

Does 3 pounds in a month count as working? That's all I've lost. I had some French Meadow bagels for awhile, now I've got their spelt bread. Eating both with plain yogurt with sugarnot in it. I've been posting my daily menu on the somersizing website to see if there's anything I've been messing up, and there hasn't been much. Meh.

Dark - three pounds counts!! That's great. I left the somersizing boards cause they didn't seem very busy. Has that changed.
Ptouch - Ezekial 4.9 multi-sprouted grain doesn't have sugars or fats. It's usually in the frozen section at health food stores. Or you may want to look at French Meadow Bakery on-line.
Even if I eat them plain - grains don't really agree with me. I had some oatmeal the other morning - ugh.

Sugar free honey is pretty much 100% malitol. A lot of people seem to have digestive problems from sugar alcohols. If that describes you, I wouldn't recommend getting it. The fake honey is on the same shelf as the regular honey in my supermarket, though, if you want to see if you can find it around you.

hey sommersizers.. here's how i did, it' s also on my journal, but i post here so u can all say
weight:
137.5 again
Today:
830am breakfast
1 bowl of oatmeal w/ non fat milk
1030 am bikram yoga - i felt okay, did okay, sweat a lot, was tired
i'm irritated with my boyfriend, who didn't call me back all day, then when we spoke he finally called, but then i wanted space so he was clling me and then i was ignoring his cals cuz i was napping and doing stuff, tthen he got mad at me.... duh. an di wanted to get off the p hoen so i could eat proper and do consious eating.
1235pm - veggie cheese bake i made : eggs, mushrooms, ricota, mozarella, parmesan, zuchinni, a little ground meat, grilled onions
2 bags ofsommersize veggie chips
3pm: 2 bags of sommersize veggie chips
gosh i got hungry and they were in my car and i couldn't stop eatin gthem.... shoot.. well atleast they are veggie chips
548pm-
dinner
salad with seared ahi tuna, 5 bites of my veggie bake that has cheese
610pm - 1/2 cup of sommersize capuccino shake ( alittle heavy cream in it)
i'm done eating today, i go to the gym at 7pm , work out, come home and sleep. hopefully it will be better tomoro
i think is TOM soon
argh
i played the consious eating cd audio while i eat, it helps me to keep focusing in on eating consiously, slowly, breathing, i find i don't breath and i keep slipping back in to chewING sooo fast, and thinking abou OTHER THIGNS, when i should concentrate on eating only, and accepting the nutrients.....
it's SOOOO hard to consciously eat.... anyone in to it?
i tightened my belt just now to eat dinner, and i'm FULL AS HECK NOW, but somehow i think i might have stopped earlier than i USUALLY do, so i'm better than before i guess....

I just read through this thread. I think that it is so interesting that there aren't more Somersizers out on the boards. It is so much easier to follow than the stricter low carb diets.
Well, that being said, i am a bit disappointed in myself tonight. I was hit with a gigantic migraine today. I was home with my kids so I had to battle it out without sleeping. So, 2 ibuprofin, a cup of caffeinated coffee and a glass of pepsi later... I was off the wagon. It so hard for me to maintain the low carb when I get a migraine. I know this will sound weird but Pepsi, even though its usually my last resort (and obviously not lowcarb), seems to work to get rid of my migraine headaches.
Anyway, I am glad that I found some fellow Somersizers. I am so much happier on this diet. I finally feel like I have found the answer to my battle with food. With the exception of these pesky headaches (which I have had my whole life) I feel so much better eating this way.
lizzyLC
Wed, Jan-31-07, 10:06
Hi dirtywater,
I wouldn't worry about one pepsi - especially if it helps you get through a migraine. I used to get them on a regular basis but don't seem to get them much anymore. I can't attribute any reason for it - maybe age.
I'm a food combiner - not really doing somersizing at the moment but wanted to say hi.

Thanks LizzyLC. :)
I am still so amazed that this section of the board does not have more people contributing. I feel so much better now that I am food combining versus Atkins (strict Low Carbing). I am losing too! Its a slower pace of weight loss but I feel great!
So... I kind of gave up on completely omitting caffeine. I am so addicted to it. I am trying to keep it to one cup a day. One thing I am doing though is adding lots of cinnamon to my coffee. I found some research that says that cinnamon helps to stabilize your blood sugar level.
Anybody else have any experience with cinnamon and weight loss due to stabilized insulin levels?
I am still Somersizing but I am gaining interest in the other food combining WOEs.

Hi,
I'm new to Somersizing and am so thrilled to found this thread..I used to do CALP, but since gaining back 15 pounds in 1 year and struggling to get if off, I picked up Get Skinny and Eat, Cheat & Melt the fat away..I started 8 days ago and have lost 3 pounds.
I love the feeling of control I feel on this plan. I am a major sugar and chocolate addict and in order to lose weight I know I have to cut these foods out.
I'm still having 2 cups of coffee a day and at this point, I don't plan to cut it out completely since I've lost 3 pounds this week drinking 2 cups a day.
I find I do a lot better if I keep my meals very simple..that way I don't overeat or eat too many carbs.
I do plan on making some of the recipes in the books, but right now I'm very busy with college and work ...no time to spend tons of time planning menus..keeping it simple works great for me.
I love cinnamon as well, never heard about putting it in coffee..wow..I do put it in my cream of wheat in the morning...:yum:
Hoping to stay on track and look forward to hearing about others on this journey. :)

Hi Gasp,
I remember you from the CALP threads.
I'm food combining but not following Somer's. I'm off of dairy right now and her recipes tend to be a little dairy heavy. Her recipes are good though. I also looked a Marilu Henner's plan but that one is soy heavy which I avoid as well. So I'm just doing my own plan or closer to Montinqac's plan. That's great you lost a few pounds already so have I but I'm kinda stalled right now - which is totally my own fault. I need to keep my priorities straight.
Keep in touch !

Hi Lizzy,
I hear you about being stalled..it's been 6 days at the same number..I know that's not considered a stall, but I am following religiously the plan. No sugar whatsoever and only whole wheat carbs in the morning.
I've now switched to pro/fat in the morning as well. I haven't been able to work out this past week and am thinking that is the reason the scale is not moving.
I'm taking a finance course and am studying for finals, I guess I need to take the time to exercise as well..

Thu, May-03-07, 07:05
Hi Mary-Ann-- Could you be near TOM?
I've been SSing for about 7-8 months and have lost 50 pounds. There have been some weeks where I lost nothing. Frustrating, but when I think about how much BETTER I feel, the frustration fades. :) This is now just the way I eat.
Also, during the times that I've not lost any weight, I can tell that the fat is re-distributing itself. Kinda funny how it does it!!!
Gaspesiene
Thu, May-03-07, 17:12
Yea, I find too that the weight is redistributing...the scale did actually go down 2 pounds ...so I'm at 141..I haven't seen that weight since last spring..it was very nice!
I'm not near TOM, I think I'm just not getting enough exercise and that is the problem..once finals are out of the way, I can focus on that..one more week.
I do love the way I feel on this plan..I have so much energy and am up at 5:30am..I wake up rested and full of energy and no mid afternoon slump...even better.
Have a great evening!

I gave up coffee and caffeine last week. Nothing has helped my digestion better than that - even food combining. I didn't realize how nasty the stuff was on my digestion. Hope everyone is doing well.

I'm starting to get curious enough to read the Atkins, though--mainly because most people on this site are Atkins folks...but I'm so familiar with most of the Somersizing rules that they're easy for me.
Off the top of your head, do you know of any major differences between Atkins and Somersizing?
And kudos to you, Lizzy, for maintaining the weight loss! How much did you lose and how long ago did you lose it? I'd love to hear more if you care to share more...

Hello - just read the Sommersize book this evening. I would say the major differences are the lack of rules for food combining, Bailey. There is also a two week period (induction) where your carbs at at a level of 30grams (yes there is some counting to this method). No alcohol during induction and no frankenfoods. Atkins also has one increase carbs very slowly until you find what level works best for you to either continue losing or maintain, whichever you are working on.
Might give this food combining a try. Whose with me?

Hi fellow Somersizers...I absolutely love this WOEing....if I can only stick with it and not fall back into eating the funky foods. When I was single it was easier for me but now that I live my girlfriend and my mother has just moved in with us, it's a bit interesting "training" them of what I can eat and what I can't eat. But SSing works so well for me and I've read all of the books and have made many of the recipes and changed them up to suit my tastes. I like taking recipes and changing them up to make the fit the program too.

Have any of you tried The Beverly Hills Diet. It is food combining and basically a fruit based diet to start your day. It allows for any foods you desire as long as you combine.

Hi! I'm new. I'm a somersizer. It's the only diet I've ever used and it works well for me. My downfall is my love of sugar, and I always seem to go back to it. THis time, I'm hoping to lose and then learn moderation :)

I just wanted to say hi to other lo-carbers and those who are Somersizing. It has been 5 weeks today and I have lost 10-11 pounds. I was actually h oping for more since I use to eat carbs all day and now I eat just what I am allowed plus a few. Can any one tell me what a reasonable amount of carbs is per day. Not counting your veggies and allowable foods. I want to know if I add a low carb dessert etc. what is a daily avg. I am sort of scared that I will lose control. I am a recovering carbo holic!!!!

Hi, all!
I've been Somersizing for seven months now. Have gone from a size 13 to a size 3 in about five months. Went a lil crazy on level 2 and gained some weight back (size 7) but I'm still better off than when I started so I'm not all that upset.
I did want to say that theres really no set amount of carbs you should eat each day, there have been some days when all I ate were carbo meals and it never set me back or caused a stall. I say if you want cereal for breakfast, pasta for lunch and a sandwhich for dinner go for it. When trying to get your body used to abstaining from sugars and funky foods I think it's best not to avoid the legal carbos if thats what your craving. Theres no need to feel deprived on this plan when there are soo many delicious legal meal choices out there. Good luck and best wishes!
The chocolate mousse is a quick and easy dessert, I make it with strawberry flavoring instead of cocoa to keep it level one. Ate that every night for a loooong time. Freezes relatively well for a faux ice cream.

Has anyone tried Atkins and Somersizing? What are your thoughts on the two? I keep trying to decide what plan to follow. Right now I am doing Somers with an 11 pound weight loss in 5 weeks.

Where have you all found the best recipes that work with SS besides from Suzanne's books? I have "Get Skinny" but, have not read any others. Are there any of her other books with good "normal people" recipes??
Determined to do this!

I typed out a big long reply earlier but must have forgotten to post it... figures, lol.
Anyways... all of the books have some 'normal people' recipes in them, lol, you should try to check them out of the library and copy down the ones that appeal to you. The two contest cookbooks (if you can find them) have great recipes and tons of success stories to help keep you motivated. If you Google 'Somersize recipes' you'll find links to sites where people have posted their own legal recipes which are usually easier to reproduce at home.
Once you've been cooking on plan for awhile you'll be amazed at how easy it is to change almost any recipe into a legal one. Omit some ingredients, substitute others and your ready to go!
I have a sugar free, fat free carbo cookie recipe I can post if anyone would like it. I made them all the time until I realized I had Celiac's. They were great for an on the go breakfast or dessert. I'm working on a pro/fats cookie right now, when I have it perfected I'll post that, too!
Good luck everyone and I do hope those of you who are considering this plan decide to give it a go. It's worth it!

I've tried Sommers plan before and enjoyed it but found following the rules at the time confusing... I, however, enjoyed being able to combine low carb with more complex carbs if I choose too! I use some of her principles when eating higher carb, limiting my fats...although I just realized that it is a Sommer's type plan recently. I enjoy it better than ATkins because I prefer higher carbs which help with depressive symptoms!
Congrats on yoru weight loss too!

Here it is! I think/thought these were delicious! :yum: If only I could figure out a way to make them gluten free... someday, lol.
They sell Walden Farms marshmallow fluff at Meijers here in MI. I'm not sure what other stores carry it or if there are other brands available that are sugar free, fat free.
Hope you like these as much as I did!!
3 servings
1C Non Fat Dry Milk
3/4C Old Fashioned Oats
3 TBS Sugar Free Marshmallow Fluff
3/4 tsp Cinnamon
3/4 tsp Nutmeg
12 TBS Favorite sugar substitute
9TBS Water
6 servings
2C Non Fat Dry Milk
1 1/2C Old Fashioned Oats
6 TBS Sugar Free Marshmallow Fluff
1 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
1C and 8 TBS Favorite sugar substitute
1C and 2 TBS Water
12 servings
4C Non Fat Dry Milk
3C Old Fashioned Oats
12 TBS(whole jar if using Walden Farms) Sugar Free Marshmallow Fluff
3 tsp Cinnamon
3 tsp Nutmeg
3C Favorite sugar substitute
2C and 4 TBS Water
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine all ingredients in large mixing bowl. Mix well. If only making 3 servings you can make one large cookie in a pie pan sprayed with your favorite fat free extra virgin olive oil spray. For larger servings drop by spoonfuls onto cookie sheets covered with tin foil and sprayed with your favorite fat free extra virgin olive oil spray. Bake 10-12 minutes, longer if cookies still look doughy.
I LOVE cinnamon so I always add a little extra to the mix. I also usually add a cup or two extra oats when I'm making individual cookies so they're not as runny. Feel free to taste the dough and add more of whatever you'd like. No salmonella here!! I've also made these with shredded wheat when I was out of oatmeal. They tasted like Life cereal!!

How many carbs do you all find you eat a day? That is the one area I find that I stress about. The food combining is some times a pain. I want to low carb it, but feel somewhat restricted. Does anyone do a successful modified low card eating plan (notice I didn't say diet :) ) I am seriously reducing carbs but, I have to have a sugar free/fat free Jello pudding at night. I know it sounds dumb but when you go from about 1000 carbs a day down to 30 or so it is a big change. Any help, tips or pointers with carbs count etc would be greatly appreciated.

[QUOTE=ChickenJr]one. Omit some ingredients, substitute others and your ready to go!
I have a sugar free, fat free carbo cookie recipe I can post if anyone would like it.
I saw the recipe and noticed it had oats in it. Is that okay on Low Carb/SS. I am new to this and have not had any bread/grains for about 6weeks. I have lost 11 pounds but, feel like it should be more in the beginning than it is. I wonder if my "Starbucks" creation is still too many carbs. My daughter is a manager and I asked her to concoct something with low carbs. THis is what I am drinking. It does have 4 carbs in addition to the milk you choose and it does have a bit of sugar but, compared to what I was eating it is a scant amount and gets me by. Here is what I am drinking when I need a fix.
Tall, Iced, Decaf Latte, 1 sweet n Low, 1/2 pump mocha w/non fat milk. I call this the funky foods but again I have made other dietary changes and I refuse to make life all about the food I can't have and more about making sensible changes.

Another Low Carbing question. I know there is debate over artificial sweeteners and for my decaf iced tea I like sweet n low. I was just wondering if anyone eats SF Jello or SF FF Pudding and if so how often and what type of milk do you use in it???

Hi Debbie, I somersized yrs ago, did great, but I stuck to only the low carbie way, I didn't eat the fruit or carb meals.
So that why I have went over to Atkins. But any way, I still eat the Sf stuff, the jello and puddings and did and still do use sweet n low.
When I was somersizing, I lost 40 lbs, and got down to 118. But i gained back all and more, so it is wise to find a woe you can call a healthy diet and stick to it forever, your health will thank you.
I still have all of the Suzanne Somers books. yrs ago there was a live chat room, I loved it, and then they got rid of it, and the supposrt went down the toilet. I was on my own, and I quit, didn't know better, but sure do now....
Well keep doing what your doing and you wil be fine:) Debbie,,, I am a Debbie too:)

I never really keep track of how many carbs I eat in a day(one of the reasons I LOVE this plan is I don't have to) and since I've had to go gluten free I eat a lot less carbo meals than I did in the begining. A typical day goes about like this:
B- Fruit, wait an hour, pro/fats
L- Pro/fats
Snack- Fruit
D- Pro/fats
Befor I went gluten free:
B- Fruit, wait 20 mins, carbo
L- Pro/fats
Snack- Fruit
D- Carbo or pro/fats, depends on what I felt like cooking
I would substitute the sf pudding for a homemade mousse. The starches in the pudding make it a funky food even though it's sugar free.
I don't have the exact recipe in front of me but all you need is:
Heavy whipping cream
Whatever sweetener you prefer(to taste)
Flavoring, strawberry extract is delicious!(to taste)
Combine ingredients in a large bowl, whip like crazy with a hand mixer till it's the consistency of whip cream and enjoy. This is a pro/fats dessert so you'll cut even more carbs.
The oats in the cookies are fine as long as your eating them as a carbo meal. They are NOT low carb and are not meant to be. I wouldn't reccomend the cookies if you simply going low carb but they're great for Somersizing.
I'm not sure which book it is but theres are recipes for both a pro/fats coffe drink and a carbo coffe drink. If you could do without the mocha it sounds like your coffee drink is a carbo drink. Which would go great with my cookie recipe! If you could get ahold of some sugar free Torani or DaVinci syrup to use inplace of the mocha it should be completely legal.
As far as sweeteners go, I like Splenda and Stevia. I've found things with aspartame in them give me headaches, like sf Jello or diet sodas. But if I really want a diet Dr. Pepper I'll drink one and pop some Ibuprofin, lol.
I think the sweetener you use is really a personal choice. Some people have adverse reactions to all artifical sweeteners, some to a few and some to none. I think for the sake of this plan, as long as your not just using plain old sugar you should be fine.
I'll also warn you not to judge your results by what the scale says. My experience has been that I lose pant sizes BEFOR the numbers on the scale would budge. I was wearing a size three jeans but the scale said I weighed 142 lbs!! My 'high carb/exercise like crazy' trained brain saw that number and thought "My god, your fat!" but I would look in the mirror and KNOW I looked good! Think about how your clothes are fitting now, yes it may only be 11 lbs on the scale but it could be three pant sizes gone!! When I first started I didn't have a scale so I had to go by my pant size. Now I have a scale but hardly ever use it since it discourages me, lol, I should just get rid of it again!!
Hope this post made sense, lol (not so sure it did), and hope I helped some.
Good luck, all!

Thanks to all who posted! I still struggle with which is the better woe. Somersize, Atkins, Weight Watchers? I am such a carboholic that I won't even have a carbo meal. I am afraid if I ever add brown rice or wheat bread back in I won't lose weight at all. I have lot 14 pounds in 7 weeks. If I have just one thing that is a carb my weightloss either stalls or I go up a pound or two. I would appreciate any tips, suggestions etc that anyone here feels like sharing!! Thanks for the responses thus far!!!

I used to have the same problem Debbie, any carb would show a gain or stall, especially when I have had a decent amount of sodium intake. I try to watch my sodium now, and all carbs come from either fruit and veggies, or whole grain pasta, bread rice, which I limit to one meal a day max. I have been pretty successful. I know most people say we don't need to count calories, just carb intake, I personally don't agree with that at all. I try to stay between 1300-1500 calories a day.

Debbie, I feel and felt the same, I found Somersizing before Atkins. But I lost 40 lbs in 30 months. I was actully doing atkins and not knowing it. I never at the carbo meals. So all Protein veggie meals.
I quik Somersizing and gained back 59 lbs, not good.
I came to Atkins and yes sometimes fall off the wagon, but it is easy to get back to the real ......
I have cut calories and keeping my carbs down at 30, most of all of those ae good carbs.
I think it is best if you do Atkins if ou have a carb addict problem.
But it is all your choice:)

Hey everyone, I just joined this forum. I am hoping we can keep the board lively as it looks like there were some major time gaps between posts.
I just re-started Somersizing about three and a half weeks ago. I regressed a little bit last weekend while visiting relatives, but now I am back on it and all told I have lost around 8 lbs.
I am exercising quite a bit, but I do stray from the strict Level One requirements by drinking wine with dinner. I am going to cut down during the week though and see if I get faster results.
I've read many people on this forum and others talk about the food combining rules being a bit complicated. I've talked to some friends about it and they think that as well. I don't really have a problem with it, it makes sense to me, but then I have followed the Somersizing books for several years now.
I practiced it five years ago before my wedding and lost 15 lbs in about 4 months, combined with a lot of exercise (running + weight training).
Would love to talk to people about their progress, things they like to make, what works and what doesnt, etc.
Maddie
