Hello everyone,

I have candida, and I'm now using probiotics to treat what seems to be a Candida infection (I scored 195 points on a test where someone with a 140 would be considered high).
There are obviously many solutions that aren't going to work for everybody, but I'm pretty new to this so I thought I'd explore.

I was taking the homemade yoghurt as my probiotics before, but now I've started Kent's diet (I started it originally because I have UC). The yoghurt seemed to have kept the symptoms down a little bit, but they were apparent. Now that I'm doing this diet (I've been on it for a week) my symptoms for Candida have gotten worse, and UC better. I have reason to believe that this just may be the ''yeast die-off'' period, so I'm going to give it some time.

In the meantime, I'm taking probiotic supplements, but I'm not sure how much it helps.

What are your experiences with:

Garlic

Betaine Hydrochloric Acid

and Digestive Enzymes?

Thanks,

you'll be hearing more from me as I go along.

Was it 24-hour fermented yogurt? That's what I use on SCD.
I had no luck with probiotics. I took Culturelle for 2 months, I did have some die-off but apart from that I still have symptoms. It contains inulin/FOS wich makes things worse. So I stopped using it and I'm doing the 24-hour homemade yogurt only with L. acidophilus, L.bulgaricus and L. thermophilus. I've only been making it for about 2 weeks. No improvement yet...I'm also on the SCD diet.

What is Kent's diet? The one on biblelife.org?
I like that website. However, I do not agree with 1 or 2 things. Namely, that he says all fructose is bad. Fructose from corn (high fructose corn syrup) and crystalline fructose is bad indeed, but the fructose in fresh fruit is a very digestable momosaccharide. Same goes for honey.
Otherwise I agree that a high-fat diet is the healthiest thing you can do.

I'm not sure we need all those supplements, though.
I would make sure the vitamins don't contain starches, fillers, yeast, any form of sugar, soy, rice etc... I take Twinlab's Pre-natal vitamins as I'm breas-feeding, and Freeda vitamins should be free of all that junk.

I took garlic for 2 weeks (freshly crushed, 2-3 cloves a day). It cleared up my staph infection and warded off the flu that went around in my house. I had major die-off symptoms with it, stronger than with probiotics. But as the allicin in garlic is a potent poison not only for bugs, you're not supposed to to overuse it adn I stopped after two weeks.

I have no experience with the other stuff.
Some say enzymes are worthless. I don't know.

My homeopathic doctor gave me a ton of supplements to take to ward off the candida. she gets them from Metagenics (im sure theyre online) which state they are yeast, gluten, soy, etc free.

I am taking Super Garlic
Candibactin BR
and
Ultra Flora Plus

I don't know how theyre working as I just started yesterday, but I would assume that the doc knows what she's doing!

*she really is fantastic, half homeopathic half traditional*

I think I would definitely add antifungals. My daughter was on Probs and Olive leaf and it completely healed her asthma. I use:
Olive leaf
Kolorex
caprylic acis and coconut oil.

I'll use 1 heavily for 2 weeks and then switch. This is what the Kaufman book said to do. I am feeling better, but i never went to the dr. to get dianosed because he would laugh at the homeopathic stuff.

Add another newbie to candida country......

I have lots of questions....not to worry I won't overwhelm you with too many right now.....

One question I was wondering is b/c I'm very curious as if anyone here has kept a track of just how much money they have spent on their recovery......this is especially for those who have recovered..........anyone with a guesstimated ballpark figure on what we are looking at here.

I've picked up stevia sweetener and have to say it's worth the $$$ for making the palin yogurt taste better. I also made lemonade....yum. lots of work tho.

Was wondering also if anyone knows if we can use 'real lemon' in the green bottle or the lemon juice in the plastic lemon?

It looks as though my 12 year old son has this as well. It's going to be hard on him with this diet. Anyone know of any breakfast ideas........b/c that's the hardest meal. Just how much fruit can we have? I could live off that alone but I know too much is not good.

thanx a bunch!!!

What is benefiber?
Any fiber ends up in the colon and feeds bacteria/yeast. I think fiber is not a wise choice in case of candida infections. We get enough from vegetables.
As for friut, avocados and berries are OK in moderation. They are low in sugar and have other beneficial nutrients.

Benefiber is an insoluable fiber we can't have on SCD. It might be inulin, I can't quite remember.

oooooooh.........good to know and glad I haven't been taking it b/c I haven't been sure..... thanx.

what does flax do for us again? I looked at 'organically grown, cold milled flax seeds'......I think we are allowed this, not sure. I also heard they are yuk.....do they help w/ constipation?....what do people put them in.....assuming we can eat them.......
