Has anyone bought that book? What do you think about it? I have the original, but it takes too long.

Some good recipes. Check for it in your local library, that's what I did. Hopefully they'll come up with a soft cover soon.

I find that although the recipes are good, they often involve items that are not easily found. It's a little gourmet for the type of cooking I do on a day to day basis. I do much better planning around the foods that I like and experimenting with recipes I find in this forum or 3fatchicks.com (or other LC websites).

I just got the new cookbook, yesterday. The recipes are great, and they appear to be more "user friendly" and less time comsuming. I can't wait to try some out these week. I ordered it from overstock.com, which was the least expensive of anywhere I'd seen.

I agree with skalar. A little "gourmet". But with planning some of them are doable. Got my copy from the library as well and just copies the recipes that I wanted.

I have the book too. I made the pb and j cookies and didn't like them at all. I haven't tried very many of the recipes yet though.

I have the cookbook too. It's OK, but he misses the point, in my opinion, with some of his phase 2 stuff. I mean, I'm back to South Beach and so am back to Phase 1, but last time I did this I got into trouble when I moved to Phase 2 because he (Dr. A) seems to blithly ignore all the "trouble" foods and just add them back in. Like Dark Chocolate with Sugar in it?

I do own 2 of his cookbooks, several of Dana Carpender's and I also use some on line sources. I believe that I have to have tasty flavorful foods in order to stay satisfied.... but I have to make sure to avoid certain food substances...

Has anyone ever made Black Bean Brownies, for example? Those are very satisfying, they have saved my life as I recover from my sweet tooth .... They have cocoa powder in them, but the sweetener is Splenda and a small piece is satifying with no increase in cravings for me.

I highlighted a portion of what you wrote as I would like to address this.

I see many people fall into the same trap as you. I too, almost fell into this trap but I had previous experience with my "trouble foods" and knew just because we are allowed to have them, does not mean that I should eat them!!

So I stayed away from my trigger foods for the entire time that I was in phase II. That means, for me, NO FLOUR, NO SUGAR at all!! I also greatly restricted my grain consumption while in phase II. I allowed myself to have starch/grains maybe 2-3 times a week, not the 2-3 times a day, as we are told to get to.

I'm happy for you that you've found the black bean brownies to help you. I ate ands till eat sugar free fudgsicles. I look for what works for me and stay clear of what I know does not work for me. :agree:

So I suggest that you all construct a food plan based on the principles of SB, that will work for you and your body!!

I recall a saying from OA..."Take what you need, and leave the rest"...I think it applies here.

Yeah me too....I found looking in LC cook books is ok, but you have to watch for those things which might tirgger weight gain or cravings.
I agree with Judy, she taught me early on that certain things might be not so good, like flour and wheat products.
This was valuable advice :)

I totally agree, I am customizing the plan this time and I think that will work better for me. For now I am focusing on detoxing from sugar and remembering how to eat in Phase 1.

Legumes (Beans) are really helpful to me. They seem to fill me up and actually decrease the cravings I have had for sweets.

And yes - the BBBrownies are really good. I don't even like Black Beans! And my stomach feels much healthier and happier after I eat one. And... one is enough and my sweet tooth is actually satisfied, which never happens with sugar things....

Next I am going to move to healthier fats and more veggies. A few pounds have disappeared just from this new beginning. I am encouraged. The universe must have known I needed some encouragement for the beginning!

I got the new easy cookbook yesterday. I've only flipped through it a bit, but I saw some promising recipes. Also, it has a section of "no recipe" meal suggestions which is right up my alley!

RE: dangerous foods. For me it is cold cereal. I can't have it in the house - I will just eat it till it is gone. I can go through a box in about 2 days! (If not quicker.)
