morning all!!
well i'm down another 2lbs so i'm a happy bunny
nervous as hell about going to the gym for the first time today. not worried about the physical side in itself - just other people being there! UGH
Dan you should be really proud of yourself keeping away from those carb temptations! WTG!!!
You know - i think we might have some in this group getting to 199 this week! i'm getting ready to congratulate!

Hi Ive just joined the Xmas Challange Ive set myself a goal of 28lbs before xmas, I want to loose 3lbs a week (if possible) which is 27lbs, but I made it 28lbs so it would be a straight 2 stone!!
I probably wont see the magic 199 before the turn of the year, but I can give it my best shot, if I reachmy Christmas target it will take me too 210lbs, which is only 11lbs from the magic 199.
I may not make it before the start of the new year but I will get there (again) and joining these challanges helps me a great deal!!
My Start weight is 238, lets see how close I can get to the 199 before new year!!

I have now officially lost 50 pounds!!! :yay: :yay: :yay:
Whew...only 11 pounds to go. My original goal was to get to 199 by end of year. Now my goal is to get there before my Bahamas cruise. I'll be setting sail on 11/29. So I only have to lose about 2 pounds a week, which is doable.

Thanks ouzo! The real trick will be to keep the weight off during the cruise! I thought my family get-togethers were rough...that should be the ultimate test of will power.

I made it too 199! I usually wt my self on wednesdays only but i just couldn't wait! so now when my family ask how much I wt I can say 100 in something.... Instead of 200 and bla bla bla. Now my next goal is to get into all my 18's I'm in 20's so hopefully in 10 to 15 more pounds I'll be able to fit in all my old pants!

Great job motherofth!!! This is probably one of the only groups where we want to lose members. Chalk another one off the list!
Speaking of size of clothes, I'm going to find out what mine is when I buy a whole new set of clothes in a few weeks for my 199 celebration. My current clothes are getting way too baggy now.
So who's the next one to leave the group. I think it'll be Irisda (or maybe Marvin???)

I am holding steady which is a miracle. I usually go up during this time of the month and then when its all over I go back to where I started. I should be posting a loss by the end of next week. Birthday is next Thursday and I am just going to have to postphone if I dont loose. There is no way I am having another birthday over 200 pounds. Its completely unacceptable! :lol:

Irisida, you have the best attitude. I was hoping to reach my next birthday in onderland, but I won't. 21 pounds in 30 days is pretty hard to do, but I'll be happy to reach onderland by New Years!!

Congrats to everyone that made it to 199!
Well as you may notice, I'm posting a 2 pound gain since my last weigh-in on Tuesday. But the good news is that I don't think it's real. I've noticed this week that my scale started acting a little crazy. One minute I was 210, the next 215, the next 212, etc. So I ditched my cheap Walmart scale and got a really good one that, according to all the reviews I read, reads super accurately. It also measures BF%. It officially declared me obese...like I needed a machine to tell me that!
Anyway, I think this past Tuesday, I wasn't really 210. I haven't strayed at all from my dieting or exercise, so I suspect I was more like 212 on Tuesday and today my super-duper accurate scale is reading in at 211.6.

well - it's monday, so it's weigh-day. no change for me this week. but i'm feeling pretty good. i joined a gym and have sorted out an exercise routine with a trainer. so i intend to go to the gym three times a week...... so far so good, but as with anything it's easy to be motivated at the beginning...
dan, i'm sure your new all-singing all-dancing scales wil be showing a good loss next week!

Hello all; I hope you guys don't mind a new member. My name is Elizabeth and I very much want to get to 199 lbs! Last summer I got down to 212 lbs but fell off the wagon and gained 15 back. At least it was only 15! Anyway, I just re-started induction a week ago and have lost 6 lbs so far. I am determined this time to keep going no matter what.
Any recommendations on scales? Mine are acting whacko; they were just $6 at Wal-Mart and I guess I got just what I paid for LOL.
I'm very happy to have found this challenge again; it was going strong a year ago when I was here but I never did join then, I mostly lurked and read all I could.

If you haven't already, check out my journal for the response about the scale I bought. I've been liking it so far.
Even though my official weigh-ins aren't on Sunday, I weighed in this morning on my ultra cool, super-duper, high-tech scale and it said I was 209.6!!! Single digits at last!!! Well hopefully it'll last until Sunday. I would love to post a 208 or 209 as my official weight.

Thanks Dan and Fletchi for the welcome. Fletchi, I was going to pop in on your journal but found you don't have one. You really should start a journal; it has helped me a lot anyway. Feeling like I should write something in it every day keeps me disciplined. I don't want to have to write that I've gained! Oh, and today I weigh 220 exactly, so we need to encourage each other--it would be neat to make it to 199 at the same time!

I was really excited about getting my steak! Those drumsticks were with me for a long time. Now if I could only afford to eat steak more often...
The gym log is a good idea; probably I should start one too. I did get on the treadmill yesterday for seven minutes LOL. I will do better tomorrow.

elizabeth....at the rate i post i'll still have chicken legs next year ! lol The whole gym thing is very new for me....and altho i walk every evening with my dog, walking on the treadmill is completely different. i started last week with 10 minutes and have put it up to 15 this week.. slow and steady.

Anyway my progress so far is 16lbs gone in my first week, I nearly feel of the scales with shock, so I am now 222 lbs so only 23 lbs to go until I get to 199, so If I did keep loosing on average 3 pounds a week I might see the magic 199 before christmas, but I think its a tall order 3 lbs a week, so I will change it to 2lbs a week, I might not see 199 before xmas but I will be closer too it!!:)

I am new here, and want to get into this challange. I have about 26 pounds to go. I haven't seen that number in such a long time. I am setting a goal to make it by Valentines day, Feb 14 2005! That will be better than chocolate! (Well maybe not, as I really love chocolate, but only have low carb kind now).

I'm 12 pounds away from the magic number and want to make it by the end of December of this year. November and December are always such hard months! My goal is 6 pounds by November 30th and 6 more by December 31st! I would love to ring in the new year in Onederland!

Hey Fletchi...remember last week I posted a 2 pound gain. It was a bummer, but I put it behind me. I'll never know for sure if it was my old scale lying to me or if I really did have a gaining week. But either way, it's behind me.
So don't let a pound get you too bummed. Remember, some weeks you're gonna lose just 1 pound, and this 1 pound gain could just be 2 pounds of water retention that will be gone in a day or so.
Look at me...last week I was up from 210 to 212. Then this week, I'm down to 208!
Welcome to all the members of the group. You're never too far away to look towards onederland. I started at 260 and I always had my eye on it.

I agree with the EKG analogy. I weigh myself every day and throughout a week, my weight usually doesn't go down in a straight line. Mine usually goes up and down, but the overall trend is downwards.
So if you weigh yourself once a week, you could be weighing on a "normal" day or a "I'm a bloated sponge-like creature that seems to hold on to every drop of water" kind of day. :)

I wanted to let everyone know that I have been real faithful since sunday, and do expect a loss. Not sure when I will weigh myself tho, I do tend to be a scale-a-holic, once I start, can't keep off the darn thing and it sure affects my mood if it doesn't go down, so I am trying to stay off it for a while! I'm very encouraged to see all of you working so hard! And I know you'll make it to 199 in no time.
It can be hard. And SO frustrating. It may feel like you're never going to get there sometimes. Even now for me.. I look back on it and it seems like it all went so fast. But even now I stepped on the scale today and saw 182.5... And I still have to blink a time or two to take in that I'm not over 200 anymore.
You all seem to be in a wonderful mindset and that is really great! Just know that it's hard work. And it takes time. A lot of the time it takes longer than anyone would really like. But if you stick with it and remain positive you WILL make it. And that is far more worth it than not sticking to this WOL.
Everyone have a wonderful November and hopefully I'll get the opportunity to talk to each of you at some point soon. :)

And thank you! I love coming in and checking on everyone. I was actually part of this challenge for a long time (for me anyway). And sometimes I really miss it. I can't even imagine being in the 170s. It just keeps getting more exciting. I haven't been in the 170s since I was maybe 16 or 17. (Which okay.. not terribly long ago as I'm about to be 21 in a week, but it still feels like forever ago..)
I'll keep checking in on you because I'm very impressed with your progress and plus you seem really nice so yay for nice people. :D

Missaec, I haven't been in the 190's since I was 16 or 17 so I know where you're coming from. Although for me it's been 13 or 14 years. It sure is getting exciting! It'll be fun watching everyone on here pass the 200 lb mark.

Way to go ouzo! I betcha you'll make it way before that.
Fletchi, hopefully your new scale doesn't show too much of a gain. If you get stuck at the same weight for awhile, you may need to alter your diet a bit, or dare I say your exercise. :)

Well - the new scales weighed the same this morning, so that's something.
Maybe it's time to alter the diet somehow - cos i'm already exercising three times a week at the gym and walking 2 miles briskly every night.
For the first couple of weeks i put not losing down to the fact that i have given up smoking and that def. affects my metabolism. Also and the fact that when you first start exercising seriously that too can affect it. but now.... dunno
I have purposely avoided using fitday because this needs to become a WOL that comes naturally.. not something that is all consuming - both mentally and time-wise. Perhaps it's time to enter a standard days eating in there and see if it comes up with any surprises.

Fletchi, perhaps you're building muscle and losing fat. You do measure right?
Something I noticed was a problem was water retention. I cut back on sodium and things were good. :)

I have taken measurements and they have gone down - i should be grateful for that. i know i need to try and chill out about it a bit... but with so far to go it is *so* frustrating. I feel like i'm wasting weeks when i stay the same, even tho i know i have stuck to the WOE
oh - I don't have salt at all.
Gonna be a tough weekend for me too - as my husband and I are off to Amsterdam for a long w/e. God knows what food i'll find there!

Fletchi, I'm really impatient, so I completely understand. I finally just have made myself stick with it without cheating at all... I watch myself and make adjustments as needed. Just pay close attention to what you're eating and how your body reacts to it. (One important reason why I weigh every day...) I'll have a couple weeks at a time without losing much of anything and then I'll lose a lot.
Everyone is different, so the best I can say is keep a close eye. But if your measurements are going down, I think it's very safe to say a large part of it is that you're building muscle and losing fat. Being the impatient person that I am... I don't exercise much (yet) because I don't want to see it effect my weight loss. I know the number doesn't matter... BUT IT REALLY DOES. To me. When I get to my goal I'm starting some vigorous weight training.

Back from a lovely weekend in Amsterdam. Totally ignored diet, but walked our feet off. Weighed in this morning at 219 which is a loss of 2lbs. Crazy, but i'll take it.

Back from a lovely weekend in Amsterdam. Totally ignored diet, but walked our feet off. Weighed in this morning at 219 which is a loss of 2lbs. Crazy, but i'll take it.
Well done to everyone on their losses..... i think we're gonna be losing some of our group soon!
Congrat on the 2 pounds!! It's not crazy actually. If you work out then you can eat more carbs. The walking burned off the extra calories and carbs that would have added to your weight if you had just sat on your tushy after you ate them. A little walking goes a long way.

Whats up with 199. Its like this magical number.. Every time i get to it it. I feel almost noraml again.. and differnt, Pretty and normal. LOL..
I still will have 25 lbs to lose. but in the past ...when i hit 199, I Felt soooo much better. so thats my goal! 199. then go on from there. first mini goal 199. would love it to happen by 1/1/05!

I haven't posted in a couple of days. I've been sticking to my diet, but I've been SO BUSY otherwise. W went out to eat a copule of times and I did GREAT!! That has always been my sore spot in the past, but we went to a buffet and I just ate meat and salad and didn't take any chances on mystery sauces. It feels so good to be back on the wagon, so to speak. Today is my weigh in day for myself, so I'll let you all know later this afternoon how it went. Pray for me!!

I'm pretty happy about finally making it. It's been a long ride, but this part of the trip is over. Next is to get to my all-time low of 191, which I'm aiming to reach by the end of the year. That way, I'll start off the new year as thin as I've ever been. Then I'll be just 40 little tincy wincy pounds away from my final goal.
Can't wait for all of you to join me here in onederland. I know you'll make it!

Bewat21, I'll be leaving........to the Bahamas today!!!!!!! But afterwards, I'll be sticking around the 199 club. Sorry to hear about the 3 pound weight gain. Those are rough. I posted a gain a few weeks ago and it was tough to swallow, but you just have to move on.
Fletchi, If you were at 219 for 3 days in a row, then this is probably water weight. No one gains 3 pounds of fat in a day. (Unless you spent a couple hours last night at a Chinese buffet or something!)
Make sure you're drinking enough water and keep track of your sodium intake. Drink a ton of water in the next few days, and I betcha those pounds will magically come off.
Hopefully, next Monday, you'll be a few pounds lighter, and I'll be patting myself on the back for resisting all of the yummy pastries, pasta, pizza, breads, etc. on my cruise ship!

I hit it Thanksgiving morning. I went to bed at 201 the night before, and woke up at 198.4.
Ironically, that night before I decided to plan on cheating by allowing myself pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving, IF I'd go for a long walk afterwards.... but, when I woke up to the 198, it was the sign I needed to put the pie out of my mind.

Well I'm back from the cruise...had a great time. And I did not cheat even once!!!
This morning I weighed 197.4, so I did pretty good. But what's really amazing about that number is that I suspect some of it is actually muscle mass that I gained.
I have 2 things to support this theory:
1) I've been sore all over my body for the last 2 days. It hurts when I even think of moving. :)
2) Before the trip, my scale used to register a BF% of about 29%. This morning, it's registering 25.6%.
And I was definitely active. I went kayaking, cycling, paddle boating, waverunniing, played volleyball for hours, played basketball, rock wall climbing, swimming (laps), and a ton of walking.
The people I met on the ship couldn't believe I could control myself around all the good food (they had a huge freakin' chocolate buffet for crying out loud!!!) But I did it. It was a little painful, but I just kept busy in between meals, and during meals I just ate like I do at home.

Dan, that is amazing!!! It was a real test to keep it off during a trip like that, especially when you don't have acess to your usual foods and routines and have so many temptations! You passed with flying colours!
I am still at 205.5... I made a brief trip to 203 and then went to the staff Christmas party. I didn't really eat anything I shouldn't have but I had a few carbfree drinks - it seems they are helping me retain some water since I feel sorta bloaty. I know its water retention for sure because some pants I bought two weeks ago at the same weight fit MUCH better than they did before and are really comfortable.
I felt like I was getting so close to that 199... I hope to obtain it by next Sunday because I am really buckling down this week and think it might be doable if I shed that water weight.

Thanks Libertatis and Bikersmurf. I actually weighed in at 195.0 for my official weigh-in today. So it looks like a lost a little more weight than I thought and some of my weight from yesterday was water weight. But heck, I better have lost weight after the amount of activity I put my body through this week. I need another vacation to recover from my vacation! :) But hey, it was still fun.
You'll be there real soon Bikersmurf. Yeah I love how weight jumps around by several pounds even in a single day. I'd bet a million dollars that I'll be back at 196 or 197 tomorrow morning. That's just the way it goes...at least with me.

Bewat21, the trick to not cheating at a chocolate buffet, is to not attend! I just didn't go to it. What's the point? All they were going to have there was chcolate. But I did go to the huge midnight buffet which had a ton of mouth-watering food (that I couldn't have). But they did have alot of good cheeses and fruits which I tried out.

I haven't been losing as fast as I had hoped this time, but that is okay, it isn't affecting my motivation.
The biggest hurdle I had was sticking to my guns friday when we were going out for lunch for a coworker who was leaving. she kept insisting/convincing/begging, that we go to this Thai restaurant she likes when she knows there is nothing there that I or another coworker could eat. It was hard not to just give-in because when she finally wavered she was picking japanese, chinese and indian food.... nowhere I could get a salad!!! Anyhow, we finally got her to agree to go to a medeteranian restaurant but it was such a hassle I almost just agreed out of frustration. In the end I had a wonderful salad with steak and goat cheese on top. I really enjoyed it!
Anyhow, I am down to 206 today!!! I also got some compliments from people who have noticed the 12 pounds I have lost recently.

No I hadn't considered a journal actually. I will give it some thought.
Today I struggled a little tiny bit with a plate of brownies that was left on the table in my office. I couldn't help but look at them each time I walked by and when I was coalating (sp?) some paper work they smelled really really really good.... but I decided to move them to the kitchen instead. It really wasn't worth it to me.
I also find I am enjoying eating "healthy and tasty" instead of my old favorites. I know those high carb foods (lasagna, spaghetti, rice, potatoes) will trigger me into eating more so I am avoiding them completely for now. Also when I am struggling with making good choices I throw a low carb frozen dinner in the microwave and that is the end of it!! Portion control is my friend!
I have been frustrated when I don't see the scale moving, but then I think about going back to the way I was eating and feeling and I decided it doesn't matter that much. I know it will come off eventually, so I might as well just settle in for the long haul!!!
You are close Ouzogirl, I am sure you can do it... however don't forget that once you get there you will still have to work at it (like I did for 3 months) it is way more discouraging to realize you were already UNDER 200 and blew it!!

Ufortanetly the scale is being mean to me. It shows that I am now 210! WTH? I really don't understand it and its quite frustrating especially since I feel temptation getting the best of me and all I want to do is cave and then this happens? Makes me think that I would have been better off cheating (which we all know is not true). I won't, I can't. I just don't have the luxury but honestly I am really PO'd about this number this morning. The scale is making me crazy!
Just another hurdle to get over and it helps to vent. It'll take me at least a week to get back to 206, but at least that is better than 246!

Bikersmurf....congrats on resisting temptation....it feels powerful to know you won that particular battle doesn't it. I was at a birthday party last night and I would have loved to have cake (sweets are my weakness) and instead I just went outside. I figured if the smokers can, so can I!
ouzogirl....Don't cave! I struggled a lot around 199. Both mental and physical. Just keep doing the right thing and your body will have no choice but to cooperate. You can do it!
Now for me....I am back! I went from 284 to 190 and then decided it was ok to have the odd treat and lots of fake food....big mistake. A year and a half later I was back to 240. I have tried a bunch of different WOE again, and have resigned to doing what I know is best for me....Atkins. So, I am in day 12 of induction and down 5 pounds, very cranky, bad headache, but know I am doing the right thing. This too shall pass.... Soon I will be back down to 190 and can re-strategize about the exess weight at that time.
Hang in there everyone! We can and will do this!

Ouzogirl... i am sure you are just retaining water or something and will lose it in a flash... don't worry about how long it takes anyway. All that matters is that you eat healthy and are happy with your choices.
I don't think you would feel very good physically or emotionally if you gave in.

Don't worry Biker...I won't give in.
It just gets really frustrating. SO I hid the scale for a week and then we'll see. TOM will probably be on its way by then...but maybe not getting on the scale everyday will reward me with a loss!
The thing is, I lose water weight very slowly. SO these pounds I've put on will take a bit of time to lose. Oh well, I just need to stay on plan no matter how hard it gets!

Not really. I've been watching my salt intake. I started using fitday again and I've realized that I am eating way to many carbs for me to lose. My magic losing number is 20 (or less) and I've been averaging about 25 a day! Doesn't sound like much, but it can make me stall..so back to my 20 or less I go. I've got to lose this weight!
You are going to hit 199 so fast now. I think you are going to make it so soon! I've hidden the scale until FRIDAY so wish me luck on that :) I just can't take any more gaining. Although it is probably not smart for me to weigh in that day since TOM will be just around the corner. BUT I'm in a challenge starting that day, so I need my starting weight :)

Well I am not so sure about getting down to 199 so quick, I was up to 206 this morning.
Maybe I am starting to retain water now as TOM is due this week some time. Yet, sliding backwards can still be very discouraging.
We had a barbecue last night and I ate a lot of steak, but not much carbs (net of 21 for the day). However I noticed my sodium intake was very high too and I drank a lot of diet soda.
I was happy though that I had been tempted by cake/cookies/ice cream etc but I just ate strawberries instead. Even though my weight is up I know I haven't really strayed much and it doesn't really account for a gain. So I guess I will just wait patiently for the number to go back where it belongs.
Today I am having an office lunch to celebrate my birthday, which was last week. I hear they have excellent salads there.
Anyhow, I hope your number is good when you do weigh in. I know staying under 20 carbs is very difficult. In fact it is very rare that I am under 50.

I hate TOM. It seems that I only have 2 good losing weeks a month. I guess if I can lose 4 pounds a month that'll get me to goal in 15 more months. I hope that isn't the case!
Maybe these extra good carbs I had this weekend will shake things up a bit for me. I hope so!
I hope i have a good weigh in too and just don't worry to much about the weight being up. You know its just water :)

Back to 204.5... i knew it was just some sort of water thing.
I was a bit worried, as I had a bagel yesterday when I had a very upset stomach and it was the only thing around to eat. I had inadvertantly taken vitamins on an empty stomach and then felt awful, I thought the bagel would drive the scale higher for sure.

Well I'll keep my fingers crossed that it won't show up tomorrow either.
I feel good today. I don't feel bloated and I am hoping that when I finally weigh in on Friday that I am at least a pound from my 206 (or less!). I just need to keep going. I've set a goal of 190 by end of May. I sure hope that I can do that!

Hi there! You two are doing great. I did great for 14 days, then got company and caved in. That's OK, today is another day. Getting married in 4 mos and starting to panic about my weight. Unfortunately, I am handling the panic by eating! Have to substitute exercise...I can and I will! Hope you have a great weekend.

Getting back on the wagon is tough! Hope you are all doing well. Need to have 199 again! It feels so much better mentally and physically.
