No weight loss this week held at 217, will continue with induction. I did loose some inches though. Specifics are posted in my journal if anyone is interested. Lost another .5 inch on neck! I'm really excited about that. Slacked off on updaing my food log last week, will make it a priority this week.

Hanging in there.

Hey,

I'm on my way; averaging 2.5 lbs a week so I should be at 199 in about 10 weeks (August 19th or so).

Was shooting for 199 by July 10th, but I feel so crappy on less than 25gC a day that I can't look after my kids properly.

Keep up the good work! I have never been so proud as to be associated with such BIG LOSERS!!!!

Alright!

Sunday was 213 and counting down. Today I am unofficially 210, but will wait till sunday to make official. After 2 weeks of no lbs lost, (217) it feels good to see the numbes go down. I don't ever want to see these numbers again, so I say goodbye forever to 213+ it wasn't nice to know ya.

Had rough times at work really really wanted to cheat, emotional eating ya know. But got through it and resisted. I'm looking forward to my Sunday weigh in!

Week six and still 210. Still avg 3.33 lbs a week though. Will really make an effort this week. I seem to loose 2 wks stay the same 2 wks, so this seems to be normal for me. I might not meet my goal of 199 by 7/11 might be the following week. We'll see. I would rather move slowly and never see it again than fast and say oh hello I remember you, your back. ;)

Hello everyone! I'm back! And I've missed you!

After being gone from the forum for a year (and only gaining 5 lbs - I've been low carbing, but not enough to lose - just enough to keep my blood glucose numbers in check without medication - which in and of itself is a fantastic accomplishment!) - I'm finally ready to make that "clunk" on the scale and see 199. Last year, when last seen around here, I was 202, but I think I got scared of going there (199) for some reason. I still don't understand why, but I'm ready to succeed. I'm ready to continue on my journey towards increased health and I'm so glad there are so many of you here on the forum.

I can't figure out how to change my profile for some reason. Some things have changed here and I'm a little confused... :q:

Regardless, the magic 199!! What a motivator. I even purchased a fancy scale to document it.

Looking forward to checking in on all of you!

Kris :)

Lost 3 lbs. this week!!!!!!!!! I'm at 204. This is scary territory for me. The "CLUNK", as I like to call it, is within sight! I can't wait to hit 199. That'll be so unreal since I haven't seen it in YEARS!
It's strange how bloated I am, though. I thought for sure I'd actually gained weight. Anyone else feel bloated on Atkins? I've been keeping my fat % really high - at least 70% - and that seems to be working for me. Other times I've tried Atkins I ate a lot less fat and my weight loss was really slow. I know some people will say I've only lost water weight, but I'll take it! My hubby said the funniest thing last night. He said he knows why drinking all that water is such an effective tool for weight loss. It's erosion! I thought that was hilarious!
Hope all of you have a great day low carbing. If we just keep up the good work together we'll all make it! Then we can start a new thread for those looking to hit 189!

I woke up this morning and just felt lighter. So I weighed myself again and I'm
down another 1 lb?!?!
Hey! Guess what? Atkins really does work if you don't cheat! It took me a long time to figure that one out... :p
Okay, you guys 199 is looming large -
I can't wait to pass that hurdle. All of a sudden I'm confident this will actually happen - that's new!
I don't want to get addicted to the scale. I was shooting for only weighing myself once a week, but I can see how quickly you could become a slave to it! It just feels so good to have actual confirmation you're losing. On the other hand, on days when you're not, and if there's an unpleasant Up fluctuation that could really bring you down, too. Riding the scale is an emotional roller coaster!
Hope everyone has a great low carb day!

Hey, I'm back from University of Kansas (my drum majors were at camp there) and I got on the scale this morning - and I have lost 3 pounds since Thursday!

weight = 280.5 lbs down 15 pounds since June 15th

Hallellujah!!! While I was away, I continued to do my exercise, had great meals that were Atkins worthy, took my supplements, but the key to the success was that I really drank my water (80 oz a day, I had to make many stops along the road, but it was worth it!) Whenever I thought about ice cream, I just drank more water and ate some pork rinds and the craving went away!
My birthday is next Friday (July 16), and my first 4 weeks on Atkins will be up on the 15th - I am really hoping to be down another 5 pounds by then - what a GREAT Birthday present that would be! I have a long way to go till 199, but I'm in this for the long haul!

oooh I need this thread!LOL

Hi everyone,
I started low-carb end of March and have lost 20 pounds and from day one I was looking at 199 and wondered if I would ever get there or even if I could.
I have 15 pounds to go and I cannot seem to lose more then 3 pounds a month although I am down 4 1/2 clothes sizes and over 24 inches.
I go to Curves 4 times a week without fail so I know some of it has to be muscle but ....it's still frustrating, ya know??
I know it is coming off but the scales don't seem to move as fast as I want.

So I am going to check in here more often and hopefully we all can get to our goal soon.

Ok as of now, I am racing with you all and let's all look ahead at the the scale falling......

Tandy
Sun, Jul-11-04, 14:33
204, 2lbs lost. A little disappointed with this lost, it is the least amount I have lost after a week of no change. But I am just going to use this as a motivator go do a strict induction this coming week. Super charge my eating again.

Congratulations Tandy & Musicwoman!

Tandy, I totally understand that need for speed. Especially when it comes to weight loss. I want it NOW! But just think about how each and every day we're doing it the healthy way. Too quick and we might get sick. (I swear I didn't mean to rhyme those two last lines! I'm in such a good mood that I think subconsciously I'm reverting to a Dr. Seuss-like cadence! It's very perky, yet soothing. Blame it on the ketones!)
Anyways, we're all doing great.

Welcome to the thread Triplemom! This is where it's gonna happen!

I've finally figured out a way to get my fat up as well as get a little sweet treat in - I'm sure you guys know about this, but just in case I thought it was worth mentioning. I take 2-3 oz of cream cheese and add some sugar free DaVinci syrup to it. Then I microwave it for 40 seconds. Yum!

199 is on the horizon!

Thank you so much for the warm welcome

I weighed in yesterday and lost a pound so something is happening again.
I am giving myself until Sept 15th so I hope I can do it but ever if I can get really close I will be happy!

That cream cheese idea is a really good one, think I will save it until I really need it but at least it is there.
I cut out all the "other stuff" I was treating myself (atkins bar a day, sunflower seeds, low carb cookies) and I think that is why the scales are moving again so now I know.

I am so glad to see that others here have the same issues since sometimes this seems like a lonely battle.

Talk to everyone later.
I take Wednesdays off of Curves so I will be weighing tomorrow and hopefully can report good new.

Marankath, you crack me up!

Okay, I know this sounds a little paranoid, but I've gotta get this out. I've been doing induction for two weeks now and and it seemed that every other day I was down about a half a pound or so. All of a sudden I get a stall two days in a row and then this morning I'm up a half a pound! AAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!

I know it's probably normal, but after seeing that steady weight loss the last thing I want to see is it go up! I'm totally going over my fitday to see if I did anything wrong. The only thing different this week is that I exercised 3X for 45 minutes, I ate more calories, but still a lot less than 10-12X my body weight, and I had tea twice with a couple of Splenda packets. I even counted the carbs in the Splenda and my carb count is much lower than 20 on most days and YES I'm in ketosis because I used my trusty sticks! I'm frustrated!!!!!!!

I guess I'm just paranoid that this is going to completely stop working for me. Almost like a sneaking feeling of this is too good to be true. I wish it didn't bug me so much and I wasn't such a slave to the scale, but here I am so close to the CLUNK!

I desperately want to see 199!

marankath

Bellybgone, it's all that exericising! :hyper: All that new muscle weighs more than fat. So sometimes you may see the #s go up. As icky as it is, it means your metabolism is increasing and that is a sure-fire way to keep dropping! It WILL go, just keep plugging away.

Ok, now that said, I know exactly where you're coming from, I'm just creeping along. I think my fat just likes me too much! (Oh please, like me less...... a LOT less!)

Okay, another morning weigh in and no change.

Maranketh, you're probably right, but now I'm thinking maybe I should just walk on the treadmill instead of doing the elliptical machine. :q: I've already got enough muscle! What do you guys do for exercise?

We're sooooooo close! :)

I just do water aerobics. I can't do much else 'cuz I suffer from arthritis. Sometimes it gets pretty bad and sometimes it's ok. I am fairly limited with the types of exercise I can do and the duration too! I tried the stationary bike the other day (I lost quite a bit of weight on it years ago) but, it was very painful to do. (My knees had to bend too much) The other thing I like to do is the Gazelle. I can go for a decent amount of time on it without a lot of pain.

Problem is, that none of those ways give me the same aerobic workout I get with the bike. I am trying to do some upper body movement that gets my heart pumping! I just have to do it more often! :)

Well, it sure ain't the magic 199, but I'll take it! At least the scale is moving again. Last week was torture! After losing so consistently it's really hard to see it SLOOOOOW down.
I'm taking weight loss baby steps right now!

Hey Cathy!
I see you're another petite lady going for the gold!
We can do it, Cathy. Even if it takes a freakin' long time, it's better than the alternative. Nothing. Nada. No progress whatsoever. I've done that for so long and wasted so much time...
Eventually it will come off. It has to!
I'm puzzled as to why my weight loss is suddenly at a snail's pace, but I keep telling myself to stay focused. I guess I'm metabolically resistant due to all the yo-yo dieting I've done over the years. Well, that life is over now. I've decided to stick with this no matter what. I know eventually my body will respond. And yours will, too!
I'm going to the gym today and walking for an hour. I'll be thinking of you and all my low carb friends who've succeeded before us!
Have a good workout!

Hi everyone,

If you check back a few months, you'll find I was here too. Gabrielle has passed through our 175 challenge and is now doing the 150. I'm still plugging away to get down to 175 but I know I'll get there one day. If you look at the 175 challenge there are a lot of names you will recognise from the 199.

Onerland will come one day for you, if not tomorrow, then the next day, week or month.

Good luck to all and I'm sure you'll make it.

And when you do, here is the link for the 175 challenge http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=176199

I can't belive it after a week off and back on this past week, a 4 lb loss! I must have got on and off the scale about 10 times to double check. I was very good this week and I'm in shock. Thats 30lbs in 10 weeks. Hopefully next week and on to the 175 countdown.

This is week 11 update, a little late (sun my weigh day), still the same at 200. Thats okay, I lose, stay the same, etc. See my signature block, I guess thats the way my body works. So I won't fuss about it. Down a little on my avg loss/week to less than 3 lbs, that's okay too. I just keep a lot of geeky statistics.

But unofficially today I weighed 197 we'll see if it holds to Sunday. Maybe this weekend I'll make it!!

199.5 today!!! I"M HERE!!! I MADE IT!!!

AWESOME!! YOU ROCK!!!

I hit 201 this morning.. so I am ever so slowly, creeping my way there! YAY!

To be honest, I have been thinking.. this last 'stall' I have been at.. 202-206 for the last 6 weeks, has been part of my typical pattern of lose/stay/lose...but I also wonder if its not part of a internal 'fear' of actually getting under that 200 mark? (For me, not talking about anyone else, just thinking outloud here.. ) So, I began to pray this week, and just let go of that fear, not even trying to over analyze it to death..who cares if it comes from my cat watching me eat a whole 12 inch sub, or I stubbed my toe in the bathtub during childhood? The fact is, I have something inside of me triggering a unconscious sabatoge...and I want to let that go...make sense? So.. I have been looking at myself in the mirror, giving myself corny pep talks and telling God that I trust Him...after I admited to him that I didnt.. but thats a whole OTHER entry, I may have to talk about in my own journal..LOL!!

Well, that gave me the oomph I needed to try something different this week with my woe-cycling carbs/cals-and I have been feeling pretty good again, about seeing the scales start to move...and this morning they did, after 3 days of the change I made.. neat huh?......just thought I would share...

Hello everyone....I had made it to 189 and relapsed back to 214. It's OK, I know what happened so I can change it, and I will.
To Simplydawn, I know exactly how you feel. I wrote about it around 201. I will see if I can find it. It is funny how we sabatoge ourselves out of fear of acknowledging our self worth and beauty. You can do it; and it is worth it.

pinkcaddy
Tue, Aug-10-04, 01:05
Found it today...it is in two posts...I will send seperately....hope it helps you.

Weighed in today down 3 for 203. I am starting to believe I can get under 200. I am of two minds, my first thoughts are wimpy, and that I will go up and down for a couple of weeks and then maybe see it...cause that is just life. My second impulse is to embrace 203 with enthusiasm and be diligent for about a week to get to 199. I would step up my exercise and be very careful about what goes in my mouth. I have no idea why that idea scares me to death. Why am I wishy washy and 'whatever happens' about reaching my goal?

I think deep inside I still think like a fat person and have trouble saying 'I deserve to be thin and have a healthy body that feels great to me and looks great on the outside as well'.

I need to figure out what it is that I am afraid of or what I am using the fat to hide behind.

While I do that I need to go for it and not spend my days overthinking.

I will do it, I will go for it. I need to lose 4 pounds in 10 days. I have done it before, it just means induction carbs. I will see 199 on my scale by June 30. I promise myself that I will do everthing I can (that is healthy and follows Atkins) to acheive that goal as quickly as possible.

I need to be loving and nurturing to my body during this time, and eventually I will be loving and nurtuing to my body everyday.

I will do this for me.

Tue, Aug-10-04, 01:06
Here is the rest.....

I had a bit of a mental breakthrough yesterday, as Oprah would say an 'aaahhaa' moment. I have been very weepy the last few days. I realized I am actually scared to reach my goal. To me 199 means I am almost thin and healthy. I developed very early and heard over and over 'guys only want one thing from you'; which I see now was damaging to my self worth. Then I got married and heard 'you can't be trusted'. I was trustworthy, but attractive and got a lot of unsolicited attention. Again my self worth plummeted.

I got fat and divorced and just carried on with life hiding behind and extra 130-140 pounds to make sure I didn't do something 'wrong' by drawing attention to myself. Deep inside I have been afraid of the same things up until yesterday. Yesterday I realized that my life has changed. I am in a loving relationship, and frankly not in the same circles I was in 10-15 years ago. There is not going to be a line up of unsolicited attention. I can just be me, and be proud of who I am, love and nurture myself, and know that if I do get a little attention it is not because I did something wrong...but that it is just life and I am part of it. I don't have to feel 'shame.' I don't know if that makes sense to anyone else but I wanted to add it to this thread because I am sure I am not the only one with this old baggage and negative messages about thin people. Another negative message I got in the Corp world was that thin young blondes are never taken seriously, and for the most part it is true, but guess what...fat blondes aren't either. I will have no more excuses or sabatoge to my weight loss success.

The scale said 200 this morning. Deep breath.

Hi Victoria,

Well done for being brave and admitting your feelings. People can be so destructive of others. I hope by admitting these negative feelings, you can learn to not be afraid to be thin and to be beautiful. I'm glad your now in a more supportive environment. In pounds 200 is such an emotive milestone but if it helps make it less of a barrier you could try the British system and think in stones and pounds. 200 is 14 stone 4 - not a particular figure. 14 stone is 196 and that was harder for me to break through. My own personal barrier is 13 stone - under 13 stone and I no longer think of myself as fat. If I'm honest with myself I too am a little scared of actually getting down to my target weight but then I think how wonderful it will be to do all that I want to do in life. How great it is that my husband finds me more attractive (he won't admit it, he's very loyal but I know he does) and that my children have more respect for me. That's not because I'm thinner particularly but because I have more time and energy for them.

Good luck on your journey.

Week 12 I finally made it. My weight loss has been slowing down a bit and I've been a little less rigid, but still loosing. 198 official on sunday. I'm avg 2.5/wk and only lost 2 lbs this past week. I can begin exercising, that was my goal. I will be going to the dr because I fell in the shower and hurt my leg 2 mos ago and its getting worse, so I want to check that out before I start. I probably just have a very deep bruise on my butt, I'm so graceful. Anyway, graduation is here at last, I was so upset when I first joined the thread, I think I was the heaviest and everyone seemed so close, but slowly and surely I got there too. We can all do this.

Hey everyone! :) I'd love to join this challenge...I'm very excited to get below the 200 lb. mark, because I haven't been there in about 14 years. Wow...it's amazing to realize it's been that long. It really does seem to be a HUGE marker in the entire process we're all going through. I realize that I can do anything if I put my mind to it, but I think making it below the 200 lb. mark would really solidify that.

I'd be happy to get there at any point, but I'm putting a little more emphasis on a date. My cousin is getting married the first weekend in October, and I'm in the wedding. I'd love to be 199 or less by then. :) I'm also going to Napa with some friends the last weekend of Sept., so I'd actually like to be there by then (so that I can take a little time to enjoy the wine.) So, I'm hoping to lose 13 lbs. in about 5 weeks. It's a reasonable goal, but I'm going to have to work hard for it. :)

Good luck to everyone who's working on this goal, and congratulations to everyone who's made it so far!

I'd like to join too. For me, I'd love to be in onderland by my birthday in November. 22 pounds in 4 months.... is that doable?

My mindset says yes, but then reality sets in. :) I know I can do this as long as I stay on my path to onderland :)

I haven't been in the 100s since 1998. It has been a long up hill battle and until recently I was losing. Now, its becoming a long up hill battle, but this time, I am winning :)

Ouzogirl - Congratulations for joining! :) 22 lbs in 4 months is definitely doable! :) That's 5.5 lbs. per month, which is less than 1 1/2 lbs. per week. Joining the challenge is the first step towards getting there. The support from these challenges are so helpful - and it looks like you've got a possitive attitude (which is 95% of the battle). :D Keep up the great work, and good luck!!!

I am so hesitant about joining challenges but I definitely need some motivation. The thing with challenges is I watch everyone's weight come off while I remain stagnant and I find myself getting frustrated. I was in a challenge at one point late lasts year with soon2bslim(grrrrrr) that girl ran circles around me  She is so much fun and her enthusiasm is infectious!

I am determined at 209 to work my own program. I have stayed away from the boards for about a month because I started getting heavily involved in everyone's journals and it just became too much. I was ready to drop my own program and start doing what anyone who lost half a pound was doing. I have come to the realization that yes I need the board for some accountability -- but I also need to focus more on myself and not try each and everything everyone else is doing. It just throws me off track.

Wow I went a little off track but I am way motivated to get below 200 pounds. Its been wow...12 years? Amazing.

Haha...Pinkcaddy, I almost wished you a happy birthday...hee hee...I just woke up! :) I agree that setting goals with dates are a good idea...but I also want to warn not to expect that it will definitely happen (as I've had happen to me a few times.) Having a positive attitude and being excited about any loss is the key. We're all working on improving ourselves, and regardless of whether we make our timed goals, we need to remember that. (That aside though, when you do make a goal...there's nothing better feeling!!! hee hee I'm all for the goals, just cautioning against relying everything on them.)

IRISDA!!!!!!!! You're crazy girl...look who's running circles around whom...OMG, 95 lbs!!!! You are truly amazing! I'm glad to have you here sweetie! You're so close to onerland, you'll be there in no time. (And, the nice thing about this challenge is that there's no..."AHHHHHH, I only have 10 more days to lose 10 lbs!!!") We get to take our time and work on it at our own pace. I'm glad to hear that you've decided to work your own program. I've been gone from the boards for a few months, and it's good to come back and see your beautiful shining face full of positive motivation!!! Hey gang may I join you all? I'm at 219 right now, started at 228 and that 199 is embedded in my brain and I long to reach it. Maybe we can email each other as buddies also if you like.
I live on the big island of Hawaii and am 48 years of age. Lost 80 pounds once doing Herbalife. I reached 167 but didn't appreciate the loss and didn't eat right after doing so and regained most of it back.

You only have 9 pounds to go...that's incredible. I did the math and I figure I can reach 199 by the end of the year.

I actually take every 10 pounds as a mini-challenge. So my next mini-challenge is to hit 219 and be forever rid of the 220's.

Hey CheriYM,

I'm used to the diet now. I don't really reference the book anymore though. I just eat what's on the "allowed" list in Phase 2 and stay away from the "not allowed" foods. I also watch my daily carbs and calories and make sure I don't over do it. And I also don't over do the fats. I try to keep myself to lower fat (especially saturated fat) foods. But occasionally I'll endulge and have something a little fatty.

I've also started to use Fitday, which is a pretty nifty tool. I think it's going to make it alot easier to keep track of my progress.

I'll take you on... I may be behind now...but I'll catch up in the end. I'll call it right now. 199 me. 201 you.

Helloooo gang! :) Irisda...hee hee...don't think of this as a challenge honey, just think of this as a temporary stopping point between your 200's and 100's...all you're doing is letting us know how you're doing. :) (And might I add, you're doing MAHVELOUS darling!) You're so close, like you said, if you're good for a few days, it'll come off in no time. (I have major faith in you sweetie!) :D

Well, weighed in at 205 today...only 6 more lbs. to go *sigh*!!! It feels like it's taking forever...hee hee. I'm just hoping I can get there before October 2nd (the date of the wedding I'm in).

Keep up the amazing work everyone!!!! I'm excited to see the results of the "race" hee hee :D

Another 2 pounds disappear forever! I'm at 219 now...so how are my fellow racers doing?

Not that I'm complaining, but lately I've been losing at a bit quicker rate. This week I lost 4 pounds. My previous average, at best, was 2. Let's just hope I don't hit another one of those dreaded plateaus. Ok now I've done it...I just went and jinxed myself. I'm gonna be stuck at 219 forever now...

But actually, like I mentioned previously, I hit 218 in my previous diet a few years ago before gaining it all back. The initial reason I went off the diet (or cheated for the first time) was because I hit a major plateau at 218. I got stuck there for weeks even though I kept on eating the way I had been and exercised regularly. So I shouldn't joke about plateaus!!!

But I've already hit a plateau or two this time on my diet and if it happens again, I won't let that get to me. I'll just adjust how I eat and maybe exercise a little more.

Hope everybody has a great week!!!

Cheryl... your doing great and I am sure you will be leaving 250 in the dust by the end of the year! I'm rooting for you!

I am down to 216 and am happy because this is lower than I have been in years. My mini goal is 210 because I haven't weighed that in 5 years.

DanPLC
Sat, Sep-25-04, 15:21
Thanks Cheri! Not a competition??????? Says you!!!!!!!! (Just kidding of course) It'll be cool when all of the "racers" get to 199. My personal goal is to do it by the end of the year.

Cheryl...I feel you. 250 is a huge milestone and you're almost there. I've been using all of the "divisible by 10 - 1" weights as mini-milestones. When I hit weights like 249, 239, 229, and now 219, I've had little mini-celebrations.

Bikersmurf... Your comment got me thinking... I haven't been at my current weight since probably Sophomore year at college (11 years ago!) When I hit the 190's, it will be my lowest since high school.

And when I get to 191, that will be my all-time lowest weight (not including childhood of course!) Now that I think about it, it's pretty amazing that I'm only 25 pounds away from my all-time low.

So how far is everyone else from their all-time low? Anyone actually reach it yet?

Bikersmurf
Sun, Sep-26-04, 11:28
My goal for the end of the year is 180 because I haven't weighed that in 10 years... but I don't know how realistic that is, it remains to be seen.

I have lost 23 lbs in the last two months, so I don't think its impossible if I keep doing what I am doing (and it keeps working).

My ultimate goal is 140, that is what the doctor says I should weigh. However I am not sure if that is realistic for me, I haven't weighed that since I was 15 years old.

In the meantime I am down to 215 ... Yippee!

Hi Bikersmurf - that is a very high set goal - but every pound lost is good. I wish you luck, I have only lost 9 pounds and have been down this road before, so its frusterating to return. But never again - Have a great day

DanPLC
Sun, Sep-26-04, 12:55
Bikersmurf, I think 180 is going to be tough to make by the end of the year. You would have to average 3 lbs per week for the next 3 months. But 199 is definitely attainable and that's nothing to sneeze at!

Like I mentioned before, my next mini-goal after 199 is 191. Then after that it's on to 180 (like you). That's the weight where I transition from "obese" to "overweight". Then after that, it will be smooth sailing to 150 (my "healthy weight").

Bikersmurf
Sun, Sep-26-04, 13:39
Yeah, I know 180 might not be doable on that time frame, but I like to aim high (not so high that I am heartbroken but high enough to be motivating), and right now I am very motivated to stick to my plan.

My husband and I want to have a baby and I want to be as healthy as I can before we start trying because I have a medical condition that complicates things.

I am focused on 199 right now (and am well on my way) if I make it to 180 great, if I don't thats okay because I will eventually!

Sun, Sep-26-04, 16:23
Bikersmurf...I'm sure the reason everyone in here's trying to convince you that you might not make it is because we've all been through the trials and frustrations of stalls and missed goals...they just don't want you to become dissapointed if you don't make it. I have to say - I've made some goals, and I haven't made others, but even when I didn't make it I felt possitive and like I hadn't failed - mainly because the most important thing to remember is that you're getting there. (I can see this attitude in the way you're responding to people, so I'm not worried about you being overly dissapointed if (for some reason) you didn't make your gaol.) BUT - I think you can totally get to 180 by the end of the year!!! It's a little over 2.5 lbs. a week - if you're strong and focussed, you can do it!!!!! Keep up the amazing work and your spirits high.

DanPLC
Sun, Sep-26-04, 18:07
Soon2BSlim, wow you're doing awesome. Your before and after pictures are very impressive. I can't wait to take a picture at 199 and look at the difference in myself.

But I gotta disagree with you on the 180 goal being attainable if she stays "strong and focused". She may be as strong as a boulder and as focused as a laser, but she may never average 2.5 or 3 lbs a week for 3 months straight. Our bodies are probably not going to lose at that kind of rate.

A little while ago, I lost 4 lbs in a week. It was great and everything, but I knew that rate wouldn't last. And sure enough, the next week I lost 2 lbs. I didn't become "weak" or "unfocused". I never cheated and I exercised regularly like I always do. But my body just did what it was going to do.

But hey, if I'm proven wrong and on 12/31/04 Bikersmurf posts in here that she got to 180, then I'll take it all back and eat my words.

hi all
well, i survived the birthday party - just about. i *did* have a piece of cake tho. finding things tough at the moment. i am a T2 diabetic (controlled with diet and exercise only), so not only should i not be having that sort of thing for this diet - but also for my diabtes control. anyway - still managing to keep off those scales. i am the oppostie to you bikersmurf, in that if i get on the scales and they haven't shifted i can easily get de-motivated! so i'm hoping that if i haven't lost weight, i only have to deal with it once a week. the rest of the time i can try and remain hopeful lol.
and congrats on the loss bikersmurf!

Bikersmurf, I'm just like you, I weigh myself every morning as a motivator to keep on track. But my "official" weigh-in is usually on Sunday.

Fletchi, birthday parties are rough. I went through a bunch of them over the past few months, and luckily was able to stay away from the cake. Cake is good, but I really crave other things like pizza and chinese food.

But for my birthday (turned 30 this week!!!), my friends were nice enough to bake me an LC cake! That was good...actually having a slice of cake and not feeling guilty.

Well I'm now at 214. Only 15 to go! If I average 2 lbs/month, I'll be 199 by the end of November (a whole month ahead of schedule)!!!

What's cool about all of this is sometime in October or November, I'm going to be visiting Philly (where I grew up) and I'm going to be seeing my high school friends. By then, I'm going to be very close to my high school weight, so it should be a nice surprise. The last time they saw me was a few years ago when I was still, how shall I say this, on the heavy side. :)

Thanks Fletchi! I'm sure you'll get to 199 in no time. I joined the "Countdown to 199" when I was around your weight (225), and now I'm heading to the home stretch.

It's funny now that I think about it... My quicker (2.5 lbs/week) losses started exactly when I joined this group. But also, on the same day, I started to track my foods and activities on Fitday. But also, again on that same day, I started exercising every day (one day cardio, one day weightlifting). So the question is which one has caused me to keep losing weight at this consistent pace? I'm guessing a combination of all three.

Yeah it'll be nice to visit Philly again. I would loovvvvvvvvvvveeeeee to have me some cheesesteaks. But no, they're off limits now. Maybe just one succulent bite...no no no cheesesteaks are bad...must stay away...

Hey good job Cheri! Another pound gone...but yeah I'm creepin' up on ya...it may just be a photo finish at the end of the race...

Yeah exercise is the key. For the first month of the diet, I exercised every day, then I just stopped. I was still losing weight at a modest rate (1 to 2 lbs/week) so I figured I didn't need it. But really, it's not just the weight loss, it's how you feel. When I'm exercising regularly, I feel alot better. I can walk around forever and not get winded. I can bring in all my grocery bags up the stairs of my apartment and not feel like I ran the marathon.

Plus, another reason why I restarted the exercise is to tone my body. Since I'm losing fat, I need to make sure my body firms up while I'm doing it, so I'm not left with tons of saggy skin at the end of all of this!

Sadly after an incident at the buffet restaurant by son wanted to go to for his birthday party yesterday... I have gone up to 216!

I tried to make good choices and limit stuff, but it didn't work out so well (2300 cal and 148 net carbs). I had no idea some of what I had was soooo bad till I put it into fit day!

75g carbs for Apple Crisp (lucky I only had a 1/2 serving)!!!

Anyhow, I won't be going to the buffet again, that didn't work out at all. Hopefully it is mostly retaining water and will be gone in a couple of days!

DanPLC
Mon, Oct-04-04, 08:09
Wow that's alot of calories for one meal. Kinda scary when you enter in some of this stuff in Fitday.

What kind of buffet was it? I really miss my Chinese buffet that I used to go to. But yeah, I couldn't trust myself to go there. There's no way, I could limit myself to one plate of food. Plus, I doubt they have any LC offerings anyway.

You still have lost a ton of weight, so 3 pounds in the grand scheme of things is nothing. Plus, if you get back on track immediately, those 3 pounds will be gone in no time.

I forgot to mention, it was an "all sorts of food" buffet. Unfortunately not very good quality food (well maybe fortunately, I would have eaten way more if it was any good).

I can identify about the favourite chinese buffet place. There was an amazing buffet place in Montreal called Newport. They had everything you could want and it was terrific quality. Steaks, lasagna's, turkeys, baked potatoes and so on and so on... nothing cheap or crummy! Only $13.00..... Lucky for me Montreal is an 8 hr flight away! <grin>

Fletchi, carbs will make you retain water. Give it a few days and I'm sure it'll come off if you behave yourself. :) There's no way you can possibly gain 2lbs of fat just from eating cake.

I know it's hard guys, but just think before you cheat... "Is this really worth me bloating and gaining back the pounds I worked so hard to get off.. and having to lose them all over again?" That's what keeps me from cheating. A few minutes with some carb filled snack is nowhere near worth messing up my progress.

You guys can make it!! :) Be strong!

Hi Misseac

Thanks for the encouragement. :)

Start of a new day here and feeling positive again. You're right, i think in the future the thought of those dreaded scales on a Monday will stop me from cheating. At least i hope so ;) As a T2 diabetic I am only too aware of how badly my body reacts to carbs (shoots my blood glucose up like a rocket), so i should have known better!!!

Anyway...i'm up and back at 'em today

Fletchi, just like missaec said, some of the weight may be retained water. I have found that weight can fluctuate even throughout the day by as much as 3 or 4 pounds. I've read on this forum that high sodium foods can also cause you to retain water.

So when making your weekly weigh-ins, be sure you do it at the same exact time so you get consistent readings. I like to do my weigh-ins in the morning right before I eat breakfast.

forgot to say, i've decided to do my weigh in for my stats first thing on a monday morning. hopefully that will make them more accurate - tho of course it may look like i've lost more this week than i really have (at least i hope so). but that will even itself out after the first week. i'm still gonna weigh with the family on a monday evening, cos the more of us in the family helping each other on the better.
i know i have a way to go to reach 199, but i really can't wait!!!! it will have been soo very long since i have beem there.

Woohoo back to 213!

Even more importantly, I am now fitting into a size 16! 3 months ago I was wearing 22! That is very exciting!!! (doing a happy dance).

I was also thrilled yesterday when a co-worker/friend that I love & respect came up to me to comment on how much weight I have lost recently and what a difference he has noticed. It gave me a real boost!

Awesome Bikersmurf!!! I was hoping to reach 210 by the time I went on my trip this Thursday, but it doesn't look like that will happen. But still, I should look alot thinner to my family and friends. I wasn't quite at my heaviest last time I saw them, but I wasn't no 213 either!

Fletchi...I'm crossing my fingers for ya!

I would love to be apart of this group! I haven't seen 199 since 1990 :help:
and I have had dreams of seeing 199 on the scale- just that "1" instead of "2" something- I heard a comment a man at work made the other day talking to a group of people- he said, "no woman should ever weigh over 200 lbs!" and I just turned and walked away- I felt so embarrased! oh well-
I am so excited to have a support network. Best luck to all! :D

Hi everyone, thanks dan, and welcome umbria to the group.

I weighed myself this morning and even with a lapse on saturday night, I drank like 5 budlights..a big lapse, I still lost a couple pounds. I bet I could have lost more if I didn't fall off the wagon.. I don't usually drink, it's been a while but I had so much fun. I was just going to have one miller light, and for somereason their like pringles, cant have just one, me anyway.

Hi all-
Thanks for the welcome Kim! I am sitting here enjoying a roaring fire, as I make my grocery list up-We went to Sam's Club lastnight and bought plenty of eggs, meat, cheese and bags of lettuce and spinach- I just need to get some other things I didn't want to buy in bulk.
I weighed myself this am- and am putting that as my starting weight-I had originally put 232 I was off- as I am 236!! I have gained 20 pounds since I last weighed in beginning May- I was ~218-- my husband asked me how I did it, out it back on- one word SUGAR- for me it is my ultimate weakness. I did LC before and I am anxious to get to the stage when I am no longer craving carbs- but I dread the headaches- as I will be de-toxing the next few days!!
UGHHHHH- Have a great day all- thanks for listening! ~~Mindy ;)

Hi again-
Thanks Fletchi :) Yes- I am in between Santa Fe and Albuquerque- so the Balloons flew over our house, the skies are beautiful the first week in October when the Balloon Fiesta is here!
I have a question for you all- what is one staple you keep in your house as a standard snack? also do you all journal? I have seen some folks journal on here, how do I do that? thanks- Mindy :)

Umbria, I know you can have pork rhines :yum: . I try to keep those in the house and some mozarella sticks, but you have to watch how much cheese you eat for the day. I know its hard to not cheat if you dont have something in the house. Those are the only two things I have found, if anyone else knows some good snacks please let us know.

I have a question for you all- what is one staple you keep in your house as a standard snack? also do you all journal? I have seen some folks journal on here, how do I do that? thanks- Mindy :)

I use Fitday (www.fitday.com) to journal everything I eat. I also find the fact that it tracks all your Vitamins and nutrients, excercise, calories burned, etc etc etc very helpful. There is an online version and a downloadable version.

There is a little red line that goes from start to finish on a graph, and then I get to watch my progress. Strangely, this little line keeps me motivated, I do NOT want to go above the red line.

Bottom line: Entering my weight and absolutely everything I eat makes me feel more accountable. :o

As for snacks, I try not to keep them in the house actually. One thing that helps me stay on track is not eating between meals. I eat three meals a day within (consuming everything I want to have in one hour time spans). I also try to eat 5 hours apart, but sometimes that is hard when I am eating on other people's schedules (co-workers/kids). When I want a treat I usually buy it the day I will have it, otherwise I eat it just because I WANT it and it is too accessable. I bought a bunch of low-carb chocolate at once, and all I do is eat it... because I can! If it isn't here I have to really NEED it to go out of my way to get it (or coerce the hubby to go get it).

Hi everyone - it has been quite a while since I have posted - I am housesitting and no computer - can you believe it? Anyways, I am borrowing a friends at the moment - I love this club. Hope to be 199 sometime in December - that may be a stretch since it is a more festive time, but. . .
Glad everyone here is doing so well - its inspirational! :agree:

Bikersmurf, I'm just like you...I enter everything into Fitday. It has really helped me keep on track. It helps me make sure I don't over do it in any one meal and also that I don't get carried away with snacking.

I also use it to keep track of my exercise. My goal is to work out every day (one day cardio, one day weightlifting). So it's motivational to see that cute little soccerball next to every day of the calendar. I've now exercised 19 straight days in a row! Not too shabby!

But one thing to note about Fitday is that the calories burned is way off. Today I rode my bike for 1 1/2 hours, and it says I've burned 3660 calories today. There's no way I burned that much. One day it had me clocked at over 4000. If I was burning calories like that I wouldn't be worrying about hitting 199 lbs!

Can't say that I excersized enough recently to notice (how sad)... however it does help me! If I can't figure out how to count it I skip eating it, and if I feel like I shouldn't enter it in because I have been "cheating" then I kick myself in the ass and enter it all in so that I can know just how "bad" it was... usually not as bad as I thought, which is encouraging because it gets me out of that "so what I already blew it today" rut.

wow - everyone is really doing well!!!

i'm managing to stay off the scales (til monday morning) and i can't quite believe i've done this - but i've joined a gym. i already walk 3 to 4 miles each day with my dog, but have been told that resistance training would be good for my diabetes.

anyway - dan, i hope your break in philly hasn't thrown you off the rails - and everyone else, you're so close, this week could be *THE* week for onederland!!!

Fletchi, I'm writing in from Philly now. I've stuck with the diet, even though my family has been to several parties/get-togethers with tons of cookies, candies, brownies, etc. I stuck to eating a few grapes and nuts.

But I haven't been able to stick to my exercise as well as I do at home. I ran on their treadmill one day, but my little 6 year old cousin kept interrupting me wanted to get on, so I didn't get a good workout. And yesterday, I walked a decent amount, but really didn't do any "huffing/puffing" cardio. But this morning, I hope to get on the treadmill for some uninterrupted exercise.

Everyone's doing great by the way. We'll have a few people crossing the finish line in a week or so. I'm going to be weighing in tomorrow, so hopefully my will power, with a lack of exercise, will be enough to at least maintain my weight.

Hey I haven't seen Cheri check in lately...how's it going?
