I can hardly wait to reach 199!! It is my STG right now. I have slowed down in my weight loss to only 2-4 pounds a month, normally after TOM makes a visit. But at least I am not gaining :) I hope to be UNDER 200 by Christmas.

Not that far north Zora, I'm in the Saratoga Springs area. I have a daughter who lived in Potsdam. North Dakota is a long way from NY. Do you still have family here?

Zora
Mon, Oct-06-03, 22:12
Hi fishie,

Yes, pretty much all my family lives in the Plattsburgh area. I was just home in August visiting for 2 wks. I really miss the Adirondack Mountains! I ended up here as my ex-husband was Air Force. We went from Plattsburgh, to Okinawa, Japan to here. I stayed after my divorce. It's nice to see someone on the forum from "home"! :)

Becky, How many calories do you average in a day? Was the refeed more/less/same calories as usual?

becky160
Tue, Oct-07-03, 07:09
Katie,

During September, I was loosing weight when I first started having between 1000 and 1400 calories, many times a little less. Then got into a plateau. I could not figure out what I was doing wrong, until this month. So I increased my calories intake to be between 1600 and 1900, and seems to be that this is helping a lot.

About the refeed, is important that you take 1 calorie/ for each basal metabolic rate calorie you need + 20% more if you are slightly active, and 50% more if you are Active.

During refeeding, you need to have 60 - 65% of carbs, 20% - 25% proteins and 20%-25% fat.

The carbohydrates should come from High Glycemic foods:

Bread, pasta, rice, etc.

I suggest you check this page for more info on refeeding and the Leptin Hormone:

www.theministryoffitness.com/mof/library/articles/article18.htm.

Reporting in with a loss to a new low of 218.5. I had wanted to be at 199 by this week, but my loss has been much slower than I'd originally anticipated. Maybe by Christmas. Now that would be a great prezzie. :)

Hi everyone is it to late to join up? I was looking for a challenge or a buddy of some sort who wanted to do 199 by january 2nd. In other words make it through the big hollidays without cheating or getting off track. I'm not sure how realistic i'm being now that I have slowed down my weight loss by moving on to OWL, but the way I figure it there is no harm in trying.

Well I so slowly move closer to onerland.
I will wt in tomorrow morning and see the damage if any that was done with 2 thanksgiving dinners. I will say I didn't do to bad at all. I did have some wine and liquers on Saturday night. Did ok last night too but had a very small piece (maybe 1/4 cup) of a crustless pumpkin pie and a tablespoon of homemade cranberry sauce. I didn't have any gravy, potatoes, or STUFFING. So I think I did very good. We will see what the scales say tomorrow.
keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for all the support you guys have been sending my way.

Well I finally made it. I remember reading this thread from beginning to end months and months ago, following everyone's journey. Pinkcaddy started this so long ago and set the pace to reaching the goal. Took me almost 8 months but here I am, and mighty happy to be here if I do say so myself.

Lise our Thanksgiving is over a month away but I'm already gearing up for it. Less then a month later I have my birthday and three days later christmas then new years. I've run into problems durng this time of year before. But I've never lost 35 pounds before.

Thanks for the welcome, Becky. I'll post my stats down below. I seem to have dropped another . 8 from yesterday. No way I'm changing the number in my official stats, though. I don't trust it.

I have set reminders on my outlook here at work to remind me to get water and drink it. I have good days then... mess up. The water makes such a difference it's unreal. I'm down 1# this week and it has stayed down so hopefully by Tuesday I will be down again (official wt in but I wt on Friday to see if it stayed). I am loosing about 5 #'s a month now which is better than nothing but I so want to be the exception and drop to goal by say maybe Xmas:Party::Party: but realistically I am better going slowly and have probably a better chance at keeping if off.
Keep up the great work!

Congratulations Pattie hows the weather in onderland? It's cold as sin here and getting colder by the moment. I was supposed to post on monday but I didnt get my laptop back untile today so here I am. I had a bit of a scare with my blood preasure sunday. I worked at the NW Womens show for my company and on a wim stuck my arm in one of those inexpensive blood preasure meaters. It said I was 151 over 91 :-(. Anyway the lady told me some of the things that I could do to correct the problem. Loose weight..,well we know im doing that already, cut alcahol and cafine consumption... I rarely drink either of those things as it is,and cut salt. That one got me thinking. I did a search on the net for information on how much I should be eating and realized that I had been eating entirely to much. I have no difinitive numbers but lets just say i made no effort to watch my sodium and I think i had let myself go a little overboard with it the last two weeks. I even noticed on friday when I snuck on the scale that i was up a few pounds. So I emediatly as of that moment cut out a lot of the salt I was eating. When I weighed in on monday I was down to a new low. I'm hoping the salt was not only responsible for the high blood preasure but water retention as well. Here are my stats sorry for babbling :-D

Hey have to say thanks for all the wonderful words from all of you. It is so wonderful to be able to talk to people who understand where "you" are coming from.
Hi GabrielleG..I have been watching the weather from the PNW ,thats where I was born and grew up..With floods and now the cold, so strange for this time of year.
My Mom told me they had a bit of snow in Tacoma already!
Onerland is truly wonderful I can see my goal now ,and it feels more obtainable now..but still 40+ # to go :) This wol is easy and enjoyable....Big test is the Holiday Season coming up, I have alllowed myself my very first cheat days(3). I will eat what I want on those days and plan to follow induction closly during this time also.

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum and just found this thread... and thank goodness! One of my major milestones will be to reach Onederland and I can't wait! I haven't been there for a sustained amount of time since my junior year of high school (7 years ago!). I reached it briefly about a year ago, but it only lasted for a couple weeks and I started gaining a lot and I wasn't on Atkins yet. Hopefully I will be there by Christmas (sooner would be lovely!)... so I'll be counting down! By the way, does anyone else find weighing themselves only once a week as agonizing as I do?? It's almost too much for me to take, but I know it's what I need to do... anyway, just wanted to say "hello!" to you all. Congrats on everyone's accomplishments so far! You should be proud...

Hey gang,

I haven't been here in a while, mostly because I've been staying off the scale after I started a weight lifting program in September. I'm at 211, so just 12 more lbs to Onederland. When I found this thread in June, I'd hoped to be at 199 by my b-day but that didn't happen. Deadline-goals are good to have but I found that I was losing much more slowly than I'd have liked (don't we all!) and got pretty discouraged. It's possible I might make 199 by Jan. 1, but I'll be thrilled if I don't gain any...usually I gain 10 lbs over the holidays! Come by the "Hold It for the Holidays" thread if you want another motivational thread.

Happy trails, good people!

You're very welcome Gabrielle!

Well, I weighed myself this morning and I'm down another pound! That's 11 lbs in 10 days. This is freakin amazing! I guess going off my diet for 2 wks and then getting back on really kicked my body into losing weight again. Not that I would do that intentionally every time I wasn't losing. It was a BAD 2 wks filled with emotional eating. Took the day off from work today. Felt good to relax. Hope everyone had a great day. Take care.

WOW is right Zora, I've heard other people say that as well they up their carbs and then get back on track. Good for you!

Zora
Fri, Nov-14-03, 10:48
Thanks everyone. I really think it was the change of pace, although I didn't intentionally do it. I was having a hard time and resorted back to my old ways for 2 weeks. You know, comfort eating. I'm back in control now. I haven't seen a loss in 2 days, stayed the same weight, so my body is probably adjusting to the big loss.
Huggs and Gabrielle, you are so close to Onederland! I am so envious! I want to be there SO BAD! You guys are doing great!

Fri, Nov-14-03, 12:49
Well I wasn't going to wt in this week but couldn't resist. I'm down.... YAH finally. I was up 1# last week at 208 now I'm down to 206.3. I'm keeping my carbs down to 20 but I haven't given up my LC muffins for breakfast. Can't seem to get back to eggs every morning though I have had them a couple of mornings.

So thanks Zora I am slowly inching closer and closer to onerland. I can't wait. People are really noticing my loss as well which makes me feel good. Mind you I am wearing snugger clothes than I used to. My shape has changed, a lot of the wt is off my mid drift so the new snug sweaters look ok on me. It's so strange to eat this way and see your body change. this is my new WOL.

Zora
Fri, Nov-14-03, 15:30
Huggs,

Congrats on your loss!! That's great that people are noticing your weight loss. I guess I am a little frustrated that more people haven't noticed mine, or maybe they do and choose not to say anything. A few people have noticed at work, and my BF notices, but geesh, I've lost 60 lbs! I want people to say, "WOW, you sure have lost a lot of weight!"
I guess it doesn't help that I still wear most of the same clothes. They are really big on me. I am down to a size 22 pants from a tight 28, but I wear my size 26 pants to work. I haven't broken down and bought new clothes yet. I try them on at the store to see what size I'm in, then hang them back on the rack. Maybe I'll buy some when I'm down to a 20.

huggs2ewe
Fri, Nov-14-03, 16:48
Zora

I bet it is the clothes, I think people are noticing mine because I have bought new clothes and they are snugger and show the fact that I lost wt rather that the baggy hide me clothes they are used to me wearing. If you can I would go out and buy a couple of pieces not expensive because you won't be in them long:clap: but I bet you your losses will then be noted. Everyone will be very surprised. But then you could keep the "tents" on and do a grand entrance when you are way down... they will think you were on Extreme make overs:lol: .

Zora
Fri, Nov-14-03, 20:11
Huggs,
I bought 2 shirts and a winter jacket at the second hand shop awhile back, but you're right, I should buy some pants. I hate to buy new. Just as you said, I won't be in them long, and it seems like a waste of money. Maybe I'll run by the second hand shop this weekend. I laughed so hard at the extreme makeovers comment. Did you see that show last night? I'd LOVE to be on there once I lose all my weight. I visited the web site once and looked at the application. It's HUGE!

GabrielleG
Fri, Nov-14-03, 21:09
Zorra and Huggs hardly anyone notices for me as well. I still wear some of my clothes to work because I have a messy job. I have given away the bigger pants though and i'm going to keep moving down in those too. The few people who have noticed said they can see it in my face. Those comments didnt come untile i had lost about 30 pounds.

Zora, I've lost a little over 60 pounds too. A few people noticed after I had lost about 40 and said they could see it in my face. Until I started wearing smaller clothes, most didn't. I recently bought some new outfits. Went from wearing a 20W/2X to a size 16 pants/XLshirt. That was a big difference and everyone noticed. I seem to be leaner than I used to be when I weighed this much about 10-15 years ago.

Happy hump day all!

Gabrielle, congrats on making it to the 205's! YAY for you!
Fishie, I guess I won't expect people to notice my weight loss until I buy smaller clothes. That's great that you are more lean at your present weight than before. I am the opposite. I haven't weighed this "less" since 1999, but I seem to have more belly fat now than back then. I REALLY need to start exercising. I was doing good for awhile and then lost my exercise partner. I know this is no excuse. I recently cancelled my membership at the YMCA because I wasn't using it, but I have a treadmill, hand weights, ankle weights, and a ton of different exercise tapes at home. I just need to start USING them. Someone kick my butt into gear please!
Oh, I'm up a pound today, and I haven't cheated at ALL. I think it might be some water retention from the salty pork rinds I had last night. Blah. *shaking my fist at the evil scale*

Have a great day everyone!!

Hi all,

Well, that pound gain came back off along with another one, so weighed in at 216.50 today! Woohooo! Only 1.50 lbs to go to get to my mini-goal of 215 and 10.50 lbs to go to get to where I was when I was 9 months pregnant in 1988 (206 lbs).
I made the Zucchini Lasagne last night for dinner, and since my son wouldn't touch the stuff, I have a ton of leftovers! That just means more for me!! I just had some for lunch today. MMMMMmmm. I wonder if it freezes well? Anyone know?
Hope everyone is having a great day today!

Happy Friday everyone!

I forgot to weigh myself this morning (that's a first!), but I had so much on my mind I wasn't thinking straight anyway. It has been a stressful day. I'm not going into details here, but I am looking forward to the day being over!
Anyway, I did something that I was kind of proud of last night. I actually admitted to my BF what I weighed when we met (280) and what I weigh now (216.50). NO ONE besides my doc and my ex husband have ever known what I weighed. We started talking about Atkins and my goals etc, and I made him promise he wouldn't love me any less when he heard the evil numbers.
It was kind of freeing to tell him. He was not the least bit concerned with the numbers and said that I am doing really good and he is very proud of me. Whew!
My BF and I may not always get along (who does?), but one of the biggest reasons I love him so much is because he loved me at my worst. He has never judged me.

Have a great weekend!

Hellooooooo? Anyone out there?????? :)

Down a 1/2 lb today, so I'm happy about that. Weighed in at 216. I am one lb away from my mini goal of 215. I added 206 to my mini goal list. That's where I was when I was 9 mos pregnant in 1988.
I kept a pair of pants that I wore when I was 280, and I tried them on today. They are HUGE. I could slide them down my hips and take them off without unbuttoning or unzipping them! YES! My ex-husband came over this morning to help me fix something in my apartment and I tried them on for him. He was so surprised how big they are.
I've been up and cleaning and doing laundry since 9:30 am. My whole apartment is done except for my bedroom. I'm one of those people that sticks everything in the bedroom that doesn't belong anywhere else and then shuts the bedroom door. Needless to say, it's a weekend project in itself, so I will be working on it through tomorrow evening.
I bought my Thanksgiving turkey last night. Only 35 cents a lb. Just need to get all the trimmings now.
Guess that's all the news. Have a great day all!

Hi I am here. My name is Kyla and I am at 206. I want to be at 199 soon!!! I am so close. Do you guys weigh in once a week and report here? I think that's a good idea. Does anyone want to do that with me? I think friday is good. I weighed 206 yesterday (friday).

Zora
Sat, Nov-22-03, 12:37

Thanks Zora!!!!! I have been having a hard time finding someone to even respond to any of my posts and it is nice to have someone to weigh in with. It really helps me to know that if I weigh and I have cheated or gained I am going to have to report it. you know?
It is so cool to see that you have lost so much! Wow!!!!! I am diabetic and it is really hard at times to stick to this. Yesterday I had to go off because my blood sugar went low. then today the same thing. but before I would have figured i might as well take the would day off and start again the next. but I am not going to do that. I am going to LC the rest of the day now that my blood sugar is good. I have lost 9 pounds so I know i can do this!!!

Hi, this sounds good to me too. I'm much further away than Kyla--but am looking forward to getting there.

Zora, couldn't help noticing how close our beginning and ending stats are--when did you start? I started Atkins May 16.

Zora
Sat, Nov-22-03, 17:58
Hi Katwoman and welcome!
Yes, our stats are real close! I started Atkins on April 15. Hey, you're doing great! Keep up the awesome work!

Kyla, we can all do this together!! I don't know a whole lot about diabetes, but be careful, ok? I did have gestational diabetes. I almost had to go on insulin, but got it regulated by eating better.

Making porkchops for dinner. I'll check in again later. :)

Kyla772
Sat, Nov-22-03, 21:50
Yes, I will be careful. when my blood sugar goes low all Atkins rules are out the window. that is why it takes so long to lose I think. But I am still losing so that is good. I have my goals set real small so I don't get discouraged. I know I can hit 198.That is my next mini goal.

Good morning!
Hope everyone is having a glorious Sunday.
Weighed in this morning at 215 - made my mini goal! :yay: :yay:

well, I am little bummed! I want to tell you guys what has happened and then maybe get some advice or something....Help!!!!
I am Diabetic and so my blood sugar went low Friday. So I ate a bunch of things i normally shouldn't but had to to keep me alive. but then last night I went out for my anniversary and went to a steak house so I wouldn't mess up. But I did. dang! It has taken me 6 months to lose 15 pounds. And now I have gained some back and only show 9 pounds lost. I mess up after a low blood sugar attack and when I am feeling deprived! Can you guys help with any advice or suggestions? I am not asking for advice about my diabetes. Only motivational advice. Help please!

Hi All!

I thought I would join the countdown to onederland! I am currently 221.8 lbs and like everyone else in this thread, would like to see that 2 magically change to a 1 one happy morning!

I didn't think at 263.5 lbs, I would ever see 221 lbs, let alone 199, but now I know better!

Here's to wishing us well! :cheer:

Hi everyone. I am also close to onederland! I seem only to lose weight in the second half of my monthly cycle, so I expect in about two weeks I may see a few more pounds go...depending on Thanksgiving events!

Kyla, there are quite a few people following LC here who are diabetic. I don't think you have to go off the WOE if your blood sugar drops, but I am not sure.

Diane

Mon, Nov-24-03, 09:20
Hi Diane. well yes, I do have to go off if my blood sugar goes low. The reason is because unlike a type 2 diabetic my pancreas does not work what so ever. So to make a long story short when my blood sugar goes low if I don't get it up in a hurry I can be passing out and in the hospital. my blood sugar has dropped as low as 20 not because of Atkins but just because. So I don't want to end up there.
There is everyones history for the day. LOL But I am back full force today and ready to hit 199!!!!!

Welcome TerryLynne, Smoosh, and Quest! It's nice to see that this thread is finally getting more action!! :)

Kyla - Like Quest said, there are lots of people on the forum following LC who are diabetic. Maybe you could submit a post in the "Low Carb Health & Technical Forums" section of the forum and other diabetics could share some info with you.

I'm down another half pound today. I can't believe how close I am to Onederland. I never would have thought this back in April when I started Atkins. I haven't weighed this since 1989.

Well, my break is over. Back to work I go. Have a great day everyone!

My official weigh in for the Onederland challenge is 220.8 as of this morning. I weigh myself every Monday (or every day for that matter) and will post accordingly :wiggle:

I have to get my head wrapped around the amount of weight I have lost. I have lost 40+ lbs and am still wearing my size 22 clothes! I decided to go out and shop a bit today and was extremely surprised to find I fit in to a comfortable regular 18 and snugly into a 16! This means I can spend less time at the plus size stores

Kyla772
Mon, Nov-24-03, 16:24
Smoosh
That is so great that you have lost 40 pounds! Wow!!!!!!! Isn't it awesome to wear a different size?! I heard Dr Phil say to throw away your clothes that don't fit you any more. he said it is harder to gain it back if you know you will have to buy more clothes. I think that is a good idea. so what have you figured out this far? And what are some things you have learned? I am looking for things to help me.

Smoosh
Mon, Nov-24-03, 22:45
I'd have to say I learned more than a few things.

1. Buy a good scale.
2. Don't weigh yourself every day.
3. Drink plenty of water (I don't drink enough :nono: )
4. Plan your meals. Cook a week ahead if necessary.
5. Mind those sugar alcohols.
6. Pork rinds rock!
7. Surround yourself with a great support system and if possible, like-minded individuals.
8. Calories do count in my case. I can't eat everything I want and lose weight. Believe me, I've tried.

The most important thing I learned was to be patient. When I first started dieting, I thought "my goodness, it's going to take forever to lose these 113lbs" and had to virtually drag myself through the first leg of the diet. It's only now that I look back and feel that I have accomplished something. A pound and a half a week doesn't sound like much in the beginning but when you look back later on, it all adds up!

I just purged my closet....can you believe I sent 6 garbage bags of clothes to charity? Now, I have very few items. I just don't see any value in buying anything yet (unless it is on sale cheap).

I am new to the boards over here and would like to be a part of this group...I am anxiously awaiting the day that I can wake my husband up and say "Honey! Look! I did it!!!!"

I am hoping to be 199 by the new year, though I know that is probably reaching, especially since I know that I am gonna eat some no-nos this weekend.

Congrats to you all on your losses so far!

We can do this!

Well guys I am finally inching my way downward a little bit quicker. Yesterday I wt in (always check my w/e progress) and I was 206 (206.14 to be exact). Well last night I got back on my treadmill and have committed to myself to get back into that routine. When I looked back my progress slowed when I stopped the exercise. SO........

TODAY I wt in at 205 (204.83 to be exact). I am flirting with 204..... that would be just over 5 pounds to ONERLAND.... I am more confident now that I may get to Onerland by XMAS.

IT IS A GOOD DAY!

I stepped on the scale today and saw 203! Then I stepped back on and saw 205. Oh well! That 3 will be back pretty soon, don't you think?

Smoosh, I read your tips and I agree, except for the pork rinds. Maybe I need to try another brand or flavor but they aren't working too well for me!

Hi all,

Great to see all the progress. Love the tips--and the pork rinds. I breaded some venison steak with crushed pork rinds a week or so ago. It was melt in your mouth good.

Best to all throughout Thanksgiving weekend. I've scheduled a cheat for one meal--then back on track.

P.S. I'm also on my way to onderland...this am I weighed in at 202! Whoooo Hoooo!

Wow Sybs!!!!!! If you do really really well and make sure to rink a ton of water I bet you can be at 202 by the 28th like you wanted to be!!! Keep going girl!
Guess what everyone????I am at 206 again.I am going to keep going here. I am going to try so hard to not mess up at Thanksgiving. I am really nervous. Are any of you going to eat things that are not LC on that day? Who thinks we should allow some things and who thinks we should not eat anything lc? I am wondering how people handle this. It will be coming again in a month. All of this food stuff. Sheesh!!!!

Hi All!

I know I am supposed to drink water (I posted to that effect below) and have done in the past, but lately, I am not on the band wagon. Someone help me to get my head wrapped around drinking so much water! I cannot keep up with it...especially since I hate the taste of it (yes all water). I just need a trick that will keep me going.

What kind of difference does one see in weight loss when drinking more water?

I was excited to get below 220 this morning. I am not changing my profile until weigh-in on Monday but thought I would put it out there. My mini-goal is just 6 lbs away and I am less than 20 lbs from Onederland....sounds like an amusement park lol.

Enuf about me...everyone is doing fabulously! I can't believe how close some of you are to getting past that dreaded 200. Do we have a Onederland award that we give out 'round here?

I'm thinking I should get back to work.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

Weighed in at 214 this morning. I have busy cooking my low carb Thanksgiving meal. The menu is as follows:

The Turkey of course
Apple Almond Stuffing
Faux Potatoes (made w/Cauliflower)
Green Bean Casserole
Gravy
Dessert: Pumpkin Bake w/ whipped cream

I am sooooooo hungry. I haven't eaten all day, so I can pig out at dinner.

My son agreed to eat everything but said no way to the Green Bean Casserole. He will have peas instead.
We plan to eat about 4:30 or 5:00.

Hope everyone is enjoying their Thanksgiving!!

Just finished Thanksgiving dinner. It was technically LC but included a lot of cream and butter. I also had more vegetable carbs than I would normally allowed including a smallish amount of sweet potatoes. Ok, a serving of sweet potatoes. The scales will reflect this but I'm sure things will be fine in a few days. I made a nice traditional meal for my family!

Ok I couldn't keep it together!!!!!!! But you know I am not going to get all over myself. I will start again tomorrow. But it could have been worse.I know tomorrow I will weigh more but i am pretty sure i can get it off right away!
Kelly_L welcome!!!!! I am in with you. I want to be 199 by Christmas eve! And holding steady. I made it through the holiday, but I know I ate over 50 carbs and over 2000 calories although it was pretty much legal stuff. The pumpkin cheesecake pudding put me over, but now today is a fresh start. I made a traditional meal for family so all the leftovers are in the fridge.

Hi everyone

Thanks for the warm welcome.:)
I peeked at the scale today (I usually weigh in on Sundays) and I’m down to 210. I’ve got my fingers crossed that I can be down to 209.5 or better by Sunday, that would keep me consistent with a 1.5 loss each week. I have a few mini goals - first was to be down to 210 by the end of the month and it looks as though I'll be doing that and the second is to be at 205 by my Christmas party on Dec 13 and now 199 by New Years. It seems to fit into my schedule perfectly.
I started a modified BFL exercise program this week and I’m hoping to see some results with that. Gotta start tightening up this extra flesh....
Hope eveyone has a good day.

lol Zora...and here I was sitting here trying to figure out which time zone was 3 days ahead of us!

Hope everyone had a great thanksgiving! Now if we can all just make it through the next month..... :yum:

Funny thing...I went in to a 'regular' store the other day looking for clothing. Considering I was a size 22 for quite a long time, I haven't shopped in a non plus size store for years. I felt so self conscious. It was like a paranoia. Like everyone was looking at me wondering what I was doing shopping in the 'regular' size store...thinking I didn't belong. I have to get my head wrapped around the weight I have lost.

I am shopping the sales right now. Buying things that don't fit me just yet, but will fit me in a couple of months. I get great deals on summer/spring leftovers that I'll be able to fit in to come the warm weather.

Tell me I'm not weird. :daze:

hey everyone,

I too survived one holiday. Three more to go ( my birthday). I didnt lose any weight this week but I did maintain. In fact I had gone up to 204.4 and Ive been steady at 204 even for the last few days. I am pretty happy with that because like fishy, though I stayed legal, I had a lot of carbs. By the way I had decided to forgo stuffing all together but while shopping for hourderves I ran across henrys low carb stuffing as well as turkey gravey. it took me a minute to get used to the stuffing but it was actualy pretty good. sausege mushrooms and onions for the most part. Thing is it was 8 carbs per serving. The gravey was three. But very good for a last minute purchase and I think it kept me from eating the carby stuffing that we also had in the house. All in all im really really proud of myself. Its like conformation that wether i get that last fifty off in six months or a year it will come off eventualy.

Hello everyone,

Hope you all had a good weekend.

I weighed in on Sunday and was still down to 210 so I can officially say I've lost 50 pounds on Atkins and met my November goal! That’s a loss of only 1 lb. this week but it's still a loss. Might have been better if I hadn’t had that light beer I had at the hockey game on Saturday...oops

Congratulations Robyn on your 4 pound loss. I'm hoping that extra water will get me a visit from the Whoosh Fairy. I just bought a water cooler for the office and I hope to increase my consumption by at least 1/2 litre or more a day. The problem now is that since we moved to new offices I now have to go outside and into another building every time I need the WC. Guess this will take a bit of preplanning.........:)

Mon, Dec-01-03, 19:49
Kyla - I couldn't tell you for sure what the water does for me. Over the last few days I have been drinking 109 oz of water and it fills me up so I am not hungry. I make the assumption that it'll help but no one seems to be able to give me an answer to the question either. I posted a query before but I don't think anyone saw it.

Thanks for the encouragement Kelly! Needless to say, I make a trip to the WC every 15 minutes or so lately lol. Guess it's well worth it...but I'll see what happens after a full week of water.

I have been on atkins since 9-17-03 and am very happy with it. I feel better
than I've felt in years and have alot of new energy. Someone several posts back said this diet "made sense"... I completely agree. The only diet I had ever tried was low fat about 6 or 7 years ago.. it gave me a little success but was very difficult to adhere too. Atkins on the other hand is easy to stick with.
Im 214 today and would also love to hit 199 by new years.. but if I dont I know I will very soon after.
Sometimes it seems slow going.. (I have already had a couple plateau's) but Im the kind who weighs 3 or 4 times every day, so maybe it just seems slow going :)
Since my weight fluctuates, I have noticed kindof a pattern.. I am always looking to beat my last "low" weight. I can usually do that every 2 or 3 or 4 days.
Anyway holy cow the food is good huh? I would feel almost sinful if I were to describe the stuff I been eating hehe (like cheese wrapped in bacon.. omg!)

Hi gang!

Just happy dancing over hear to spew joyful thanks to the Whoosh Fairy for delivering me from another 3 lbs! Happy, happy!

For the newbies and other "heavyweights" like me, I got to this thread at 237...now down to 204. It really does work if we stay the course. It seemed impossible back in June...now I may reach 199 by January. What a great way to start 2004.

Less is more in 2004!
Blessings to all you wonderful Losers!

Sadly, I have never had a visit from the Whoosh fairy. I do lose about a pound every 2 days though so I am pretty steady. Congrats on your loss badgoat!

Welcome to the group Quickfast. We seem to have the same weighing habit lol. I never count my ups and downs until weigh-in day though (Mondays) because my weight can fluctuate with the tide  We're here to get you through the plateaus so lean on us when you need a friend (humming over here).

Have a great day everyone!

I’m here, I’m here:)
I do my weigh in on Sundays so I forget to update my process elsewhere.

Had my Dr. appointment yesterday and had an "official" weigh in and according to their records I have lost 67 pounds since a year ago September!!! great but distressing because I was obviously heavier that I thought. I also had them check back on my file and I haven't been this light since 1992.
Hey Qickfast, welcome to the thread. Noticed our birthdays are really close-but no comments from you about me being older okay!!

Wow Badgoat a 3 lb whoosh. I think that’s only happened once to me when I first started.

Hope everyone else is doing good.

Can you believe I had pork rinds for dinner last night? I ran out of carbs at lunch because I had some garlic sausage (4) and french dressing (5) on my Quizno's salad. You can bet I am bloated today. The scale showed a 2 lb weight gain!!!

I peeked at the scale and I'm up 2 lbs as well. I think it's because I haven't been drinking all my water. When the weather gets cold the last thing I want is water. I want hot chocolate!.. with marshmallows....

Hi all.... Well I am inching so much closer to onerland. Posted a 2# drop this week. My answer to my turtle losses is my TREADMILL... I must do that or I don't loose very much. I stopped exercising in Sept and dah .... slow to turtle pace. I must keep it up... my hope is to be in Onerland by Xmas. If I keep up with the exercise I think I can do this.

HUGGS to all you loosers :).

Talk about frustration...I've been up 2# (compared to my Monday weigh in) since Wednesday. Knowing that I restrict my calories and never go over my carb allotment, I couldn't figure it out. Then it happened... TOM.

So I guess there will be no weigh in on Monday. I couldn't imagine how far I will be up with all this bloating! The benefit is that come the next week, I will surely be below my mini-goal of 213.5lbs.

You're going strong Huggs! I know you can make it. Only 3lbs to go and you'll be off on some other thread somewhere...sending the odd message to let us know how wonderful Onederland is.

Have a great day everyone!

I am not showing much progress. The scale hints at 203 but won't stay there. The only thing left is exercise, I guess, but the President's Fitness Council just announced that exercise doesn't really contribute to weight loss, just to preventing gain. Of course, you can find a study to say anything!

Happy Sunday everyone

No change in the scale for me this week but no gain either. Entered my stat's in mybodycomp a week early because next weekend is going to be nuts with the Christmas party and the company and bottling the wine..... I usually do it once a month so the results a more noticeable. But even with only 3 weeks separation the results are still encouraging. I'm down another 1.6% body fat and my total inches lost is 8.71.

Did a bunch of cooking last night. DH is working nights so this gives me so free time in the evening to get stuff done. Going out to do some Christmas shopping now.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Hey Quest, Congrats on the loss.

Hey, I have a question for everyone. Do any of you find it harder to loose weight when the weather turns cold? I once went to a specialist who analyzed my blood and skeletal measurements and asked where my ancestors where from. He then told me that I would always struggle to maintain a healthy weight unless I drastically changed my eating habits and life style (which I have now done!). Also, I didn’t have the type of body shape or metabolism that would allow me to be really thin (I'm a Hunter/Gatherer type?)

So what I am wondering is do any of you think that the body tries to conserve the fat stores for winter? Or is it just a bunch of malarkey? And it’s harder to loose because we are more inactive when the weather is bad and tend to eat more comfort foods.

Mon, Dec-08-03, 12:51
Well, I will weigh in tomorrow and check on my progress but I had a bad w/e. Could have been worse but I had a couple of philo pastery appy's... 5 carbs each which added up to 15 really quickly a drink, some nuts... it all added up way out there. So hopefully I have gained the 2#'s I lost last week. I also went out to eat several times this w/e. Other than the bar - b -que sause I was legal but I feel bloated.

Definitley going on the treadmil tonight !!!

you know I think we do gain or don't lose as much in the winter as a whole. i really think our bodies react to the whether because we are not able to be as active. plus look at how many holidays are in the winter. Thanksgiving and we all gain there. Christmas. there are parties and celebrations with food. Then there is ever valentines day that is surrounded by chocolate. see what I am saying? And if you get snow just to go to the gym is a hassle trying to get your car there and dug out. So there is my opinion. ;) But we can do this!!

Hey Kelly!

The only reason I find it harder to lose weight in the winter is because I tend to eat lighter in the summer. I am also indoors more and if I don't keep myself busy, I start to focus on food to combat my boredom.

Hello everyone.

Just checking in real quick. I was definately off plan for 5 days and gained 9 1/2 lbs. I sure hope a lot of it is water weight. I am back on track today and need lots of encouragement. I am so glad I have this forum. I'm definately not going to make 199 by Dec. 31 now. :( I will get there though. I think I will set my new target date for Feb 14, Valentines Day.
Hope everyone is doing well and will try to check in again soon!

Wed, Dec-10-03, 13:37
Hi Zora

Keep your chin up, 199 will happen. It's a tough time of the year to be eating this way. Society seems to conspire against us and every place you go there are displays of food or someone is offering sweets. All we can try to do is make smart choices most of the time and if we slip now and again we know we can get back on track. So no guilt cause it's in everyone’s nature to deviate now and then. And hell look at me, I’ve been sticking with it-no cheating and I have been stuck now at 210 for almost 2 weeks. So I think giving the body a bit of change confuses it and you start loosing again. You may end up doing better than the rest of us.
Kelly

Smoosh
Wed, Dec-10-03, 14:05
I NEVER deviate. I may fall off the wagon or have an illegal snack or cheat, but never do I deviate!

The main thing that inspires me when I gain (or don't lose for that matter) is looking at how far I have come. Remember Zora that 199 is 58 lbs closer than when you first started. The hardest thing to do is get back on track because we all know how easy this WOE is to follow.

I bet that you have some water gain in there somewhere. I can't see a 2lb a day gain over 5 days. Have heart. I think it will all balance itself out in a day or two.

GabrielleG

Zora, Kelly and Smoosh are right. Some of that has to be water. I think its' a checks and balance system that some of us have to keep us going in the right direction. I've heard of people on this forum georging themselves and not gaining any weight and I think to myself, if that was me i'd be in trouble. Always trying to see what I could get away with.

Penningtons is a plus size clothing store (Canadian I think... thought there were some in the US?)... usually not bad in the style department. did all of my previous shopping there, have to find a new place now :). Liking Northern Reflextions which is classic styles... sweaters and such mostly cotton. With working in the community I have become more casual in my dress so their styles will fit in great.

Smoosh
Sat, Dec-13-03, 20:30
Pennington's is Canadian owned (by Reitman's) and is sadly one of the only plus-size women's stores left in Canada. My tastes gravitate more toward their MXM line, which is more trendy and funky.

Addition-Elle is another plus-size retailler. They too are owned by Reitman's. The style is a little more upper scale, and pricey for that matter than Pennington's is.

I am happy happy happy - I am down to 211 today! That's 4 lbs since last Tuesday!!! 200 is starting to seem real now...
Regarding clothes shopping in Canada, do you have Cottage Cove in BC? It's similar to Northern Reflections in style, and the sizes are roomy and comfortable - I was wearing a 16 or 18 in their stuff last summer at my highest weight (260) but would never have fit those same sizes in anything else - was popping out of my size 18 Gloria Vanderbilt stretch jeans from Zellers and refused to buy something bigger - that's what finally motivated me to do something!

I'll try to stay in touch more often - you guys are all great!!! Thanks for the support!!

PS - Zora, so sorry for your loss. Hang in there - you have the strength to get through tough times, and your friends here will help boost you up if you need it...thoughts are with you.

Zora - sorry to hear about your loss. It's always worse when you can't be with the people you love at a time like this. Keep your spirits up hun.

I am doing great. A couple of parties this week so I've got a cheat or two planned. Not planning on any real weight loss for the next two weeks. I am .5 lbs from my mini-goal however so that'll suffice for now.

My boyfriend doesn't know (it's a surprise for him), but I rented a limo for this Friday and invited a few other people to come along for a limo party. We are going to drive through the neighbourhoods looking at Christmas lights and having a bit of "Christmas cheer". Gosh I am glad I can have rum on this WOE! I mix mine with Crystal Light for a punch like drink.

AJ - nice to see you pop in. Congratulations on the 4 lb loss. Being close to your current weight, I too can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

I've never heard of Cottage Cove, but if it is like any of the Northern stores, I probably wouldn't shop there anyway. My style is a lot different.

I've been finding a lot of great bargains at Sears lately. They are clearing out a lot of stuff and I am getting some great deals on clothes that I will fit in to in a month or two. I refuse to buy anything with an "X" or a "W" on it because it is a waste of my money at this point.

Home sick today with a cold. Trying to recoup a bit before Friday nights festivities <cough><cough>.

Gotta go make lunch...what to have what to have....

Although my weigh in is not until Monday, I had to post! I surpassed my mini-goal this morning with a weight of 213lbs! Yah! 50lbs gone forever!!!!

Next mini-goal...Onederland! Just had to share

I joined also the 15lbs by Valentine's Day challenge. It fits right in to my mini-goal of reaching 193.5lbs by March 31.

WOW Robyn you really are loosing fast!
I am down this week now at 202 (201.98 to be exact :)). I really want to be down to Onerland for Xmas, it will be a real insentive to staying within this WOE over the holidays. I will keep on my treadmill which has really made a difference this week. Maybe I will make it by the 24th even if it is only 199.9 at least it will be a one:yay: .

It's Friday and I'm checking in to report my loss for the week. I am down to 214.50 and re-met my mini goal of 215. I am back on track and sticking to plan.
Smoosh, thanks for noticing and congrats on your 50 lb loss! WOOHOOOO! :)

Looks like everyone is doing awsome. I had a hard hard week LOL. I honestly thought I would still be at 199.6 I usualy loose at least .4 a day. I think 199.6 must be one of those weights that my body likes.I went down to 198.8 yesterday morning and held steady today so I changed my stats.

Thanks for the support everyone!

Gabrielle - glad to see you are well back on track. It didn't take long at all. You must have picked up a lot of wind in your sails :yay:

Huggs - I've got my fingers crossed that you lose those pounds by Christmas. As a matter of fact, I put in a call to the tooth fairy (she is a close relative of the Whoosh fairy, but I've never met the Whoosh fairy so I gotta go with who I know) and she's gonna see what she can do!

I drank a little last night (mixed Crystal Light with rum). I couldn't even taste the rum for some reason. I didn't end up drinking as much as I had planned (I guess that's good). That works out because I had thought for sure I would wake up with a weight gain like I always do after I drink, but I didn't. Phew!

My weigh in is Monday and I hope to be down to 212lb. I can't wait to get under 210! That'll possibly happen by January 1.

Thanks Smoosh for the "tooth fairy" lol.Send me those vibes :). I'm going to be really good this w/e. No party plans etc. will keep to plan, drink the water and get on the treadmill. I will feel so hyper if I get to onerland. My last wt in will be on Wed as then I am off till Jan 5 and I wt myself at work. Don't even have a scale at home... I would be compulsive anyway... wt myself every day... probably 2x a day. So I will not know the effects of Xmas until well after the fact which hopefully I will be on tract the other days if I stray over xmas.

Zora - I was looking through the member photos just now and came across yours. I'd have to say that you do not look like you would weigh 213lbs. I don't know where you carry your weight but you look great.

Huggs - I know what you mean about the scale. I mentioned in another thread that at one time, I had 3 scales. I would step on them one after the other to see if the first and second one were right. That's compulsive lol. I now have 1 scale and although I weigh myself everyday, I've had to learn to only record the weight I am on Monday mornings.

Fishie - Thanks for coming back to this thread to support those of us still on our way to Onederland. You are an inspiration!

When I first joined this challenge, I read through all of the posts. I was quite entertained by Becky160. Is she not around any more?

Broke my 3-week stall with a 2.5-pound loss.

Going though a bit of depression and not sleeping well due to a very sick pet but I'm trying to stick with the WOL.

Don't think I'm going to see 199 by new years but I'm keep it as my mini goal for now until I can figure out a realistic date to change it to.

Congratulations to everyone who survived another holiday week.

Good job Kelly! I, on the other hand, only had a 1.5lb loss this week, which is unusual for me. Normally, I lose at least 2-3 lbs per week.

Can't wait for the holidays to be over to get back to my normal patterns. I had rum twice this week and that definitely plays havok with my system.

Have a great week everyone!

way to go Diane... you are ever so close to onerland.

I on the other hand went the other way up 1.5 back to where I was last tuesday. It's getting close to TOM again and I over endulged a bit when I was baking the low carb goodies from Karen's article in the Paper find it at http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=153371. The squares are a bit time consuming to make but well worth the time OMG are they good. the cookies are great too not to sweet. these will be my treats for Xmas. I may or may not share... haven't decided yet :). But as they temp me to over do it... better eaten up quickly so that I'm not too tempted even though they are low carb it still adds up.

Hope every one has a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I am posting this to all the threads that I frequent, so please excuse me if I am redundant....
Just want to wish all my low-carbing friends a Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah or however you celebrate this time of year. It can be a challenge when so much of celebrating with family and friends involves the sharing of food and drink. I just want you all to know how important you have become in my life and what a source of support you have become. Almost 10 months ago I started this journey and I like myself so much more than I did back then. I wouldn'g have gotten to this place without all of you. Thank You dear friends!!!

Today, I had the only Christmas dinner I plan on having. There really wasn't much for me to eat except turkey. I hate being at someone else's mercy. I did have 2 tablespoons of cranberry sauce though...there's 14 carbs down the tubes lol. I am lucky I ate light today. Now I am trying to eat without eating carbs so that I can eat enough calories but not eat more carbs. So pork rinds it is.

Hope they rest of you fair well with your holiday eating.

Hi everyone!

Almost forgot to check in today. Was up 2 lbs this morning to 214. I think I ate too much pumpkin bake on Christmas, or maybe it was the salt in the ham. Who knows, but I have been fighting these 2 lbs for awhile now. Up 2, down 2, up 1 1/2.... you get the picture. I can't seem to get below 212. I think I need to up the exercize.
Anyway, have a great weekend all!!

Weigh in day today and I didn’t gain this week. Yay!! :yay:
Did a quick measure and I lost 1 inch off my waist and .5 off my hips since Dec 7. Nothing off my thighs though. I really thought the stationary bike would help that area but I guess not yet.
Changed my 199 goal to Feb 1
Start - Current - Loss
Weight 260 - 207.5 - 52.5
Chest 51 - 44.25 - 6.75
Waist 48 - 38.5 -9.5
Hips 57 - 48.5 - 8.5
arm 14½ - 13.5 - 1
thigh 28 - 28 - 0

Wow!!! Everyone is doing so great and so close to 199! It is awesome. Looks like there is going to be a whole lot of low carb partying going on in January! I have been suffering from a little carb creep but haven't done too bad. (Not too good either!) I got a bunch of new Atkins stuff for Christmas and today is back to day 2 of induction. I think it will be the kick start I need to get out of the 180's.

In my post yesterday I wondered if TOM would nudge me into onederland (I usually lose just before and during TOM) and yes, I hit 199 this morning! Usually I would wait another day to change my profile, but I think the symbolism of this occurring on December 31 requires recognition, don't you?

Congratulations Diane. You have really started off the year with a bang.
I'm up 1.5 pounds but official WI is on Sunday so I have my fingers crossed.
I did my body comp and in 3.5 weeks I did lose 2.79 inches and .91% body fat so I'm quite happy with that.
But I feel really FAT today, more so that usual so I must be retaining water. All the more reason to get back at it, right!
Hope everyone has a fabulous day

Hey Diane, that's the only time I weigh. Otherwise your weighing your clothes, shoes and everything you ate. You'd never get a acurate weight unless you wore the same clothes everyday. At least that's what I think.
