Totally off-topic, but I knew a few of you would like this (hi Barb!),

The Pastor's Cat...

He has a kitten that climbed up a tree in his backyard and then was afraid to come down. The pastor coaxed, offered warm milk, etc. The kitty would not come down. The tree was not sturdy enough to climb, so the pastor decided that if he tied a rope to his car and drove away so that the tree bent down he could then reach up and get the kitten.

He did! All the while, checking his progress in the car frequently, then
figured if he went just a little bit further, the tree would be bent
sufficiently for him to reach the kitten. But as he moved a little further
forward, the rope broke. The tree went "boing!" and the kitten instantly
sailed through the air - out of sight.

The pastor felt terrible. He walked all over the neighborhood asking people if they'd seen a little kitten. No. Nobody had seen a stray kitten. So he prayed, "Lord, I just commit this kitten to your keeping," and went on about his business.

A few days later he was at the grocery store, and met one of his church members. He happened to look into her shopping cart and was amazed to see cat food. Now this woman was a cat hater and everyone knew it, so he asked her, "Why are you buying cat food when you hate cats so much?"

She replied! "You won't believe this," and told him how her little girl
had been begging her for a cat, but she kept refusing. Then a few days before, the child had begged again, so the Mom finally told her little girl, Well, if God gives you a cat, I'll let you keep it."

She told the pastor, "I watched my child go out in the yard, get on her
knees, and ask God for a cat. And really, Pastor, you won't believe this, but I saw it with my own eyes. A kitten suddenly came flying out of the blue sky, with its paws outspread, and landed right in front of her."

Never underestimate the Power of God and His unique sense of humor.......

Hi, as my next goal is to reach 200 by sept I tought that I would introduce myself here.
my first goal was to get under a 100 kg before my holdiay's start next week and today I am 99.5 kg. I am very pleased with myself especially since it is near my TOM. I measure in kg's as this is the scale we have at work then convert. I was a bit worried as I have been going slightly over my 20 grams in the last couple of days but only because it is the best Raspberry season ever here in the Fraser Valley and Raspberries are my favorite. But I figure that fruit is still better than empty carbs I am not really considering that as "cheating". I have not had any sugar or other carbs since starting. Part of me is afraid that if I just stray a bit I will loose control so I am being very strict with myself. I have had some caffiene though in the way of Diet Coke but maybe have 4-6 a week instead of 2-3 a day. And I have had an occassional caffiene coffee.
My next challenge will be my holidays starting next saturday. We will be traveling and with family so hopefully I will be able to maintain my low carbs as best as possible.

next goal is to be under 200 pounds!!!! that would be 18.9 pounds to go in about 6 weeks.

thanks for the great support on forum I really enjoy all the great advise

HUGGS to all

   Badgoat! That's great! I can just picture that cat flying through the air!! I'm going to share it with my Bible study group. God does work in mysterious ways!

Lise, WELCOME! And congratulations on your great loss. Raspberries are not a 'cheat.' I love them too, but we can't get fresh ones around here except in the grocery store and our store doesn't have good fresh ones. I buy frozen raspberries and strawberries (without sugar, of course.)

I drink coffee every day - several cups. At home I drink half decaf and half regular. When I'm in a restaurant I just have regular. It has not caused insulin spikes and cravings for me.

As far into this WOE as you are, a few carbs above 20 won't hurt anything. Unless you hit a stall. Did you have any stalls or did you lose steadyly? I've been bouncing up and down 3 lbs for a couple weeks. Am down right now. Hope it stays down. I'm eating less this week and it seems to be helping. Not going hungry though.

18 lbs in 6 weeks is doable, but it would be a really ambitious goal for me right now. I wanted to be 199 by July 14, but didn't make that. 190 by Sept. 14 (our 41st anniversary) would be nice, too. I hate to set mini goals and then be disappointed. That's 10 lbs in 2 months.

Well, good luck, and come back here often to keep us posted and for support and encouragement. The group on this thread are great.

Yes we live in the Rasp Capital of I think they even say the world, and they are the best ever this year. Congrats on your aniversary way to go SDgrandma :yay: 41 years is great.

thanks for the support I will keep you posted on my progress. I haven't had any real stalls yet but I know they can happen, but it's still early only 6 weeks and so far I have been keeping up with the exercise too. Maybe for once in my life now I have found the answer to getting motivated. this is so easy to stick to most of the time I don't crave anything. Ice cream is one thing when it's hot like today but rasp and cream really cold can be good too with a bit of splenda.

Thanks for the invite Badgoat!

Since I still have 21 pounds to go til the happy moment I see 199 on the scale I thought I would poke around in here a little and check it out.

I have a mini goal of 200 by September, but I think I should look at it more like 199 because it sure sounds a lot better. In fact it sounds "onederful".

"Congratulations" to those who have seen the scale dive below the benchmark, and "keep up the good" work for those of us still working towards it!

Happy Weekend to Everyone and Welcome to all the Newcomers!!!

It's been a busy few days!!! But doing well and Feeling a bit tired. Got in another 8 mile runthis morning. Felt a little eaiser but not much!!! lol

As far as the size 18 shorts you have to fiqure I am 5' 11 so I am verytall and the weight just has alot of space to spread out over!!! When I reach my goal of 190 I should be at around 12 ~14. For me 14 is most comfortable, otherwise I think I look funny any smaller. I want to look healthy not just skinny.

Anyway I hope everyone has a great weekend

Hi everyone, I just found this post so I thought I'd add myself to the list of people striving for those magic numbers 199 !! :)

I am getting pretty close.. my scale this morning is not cooperating with me. It said 205 two times, then every time after that it said 206-207.5
I like to see my weight a few times come up so I know for sure that I have really lost. So hopefully tomorrow it will be nicer to me. :)

Anyways, I think I would like to reach my goal of 199 w/in 2-3 weeks. I've been losing real steadily lately due to my new goals:

1. No soda - only water
2. No sweets (even "legal" ones)
3. Exercise 3-5 times a week
4. Keep carbs under 20 grms

Why so strict? Well I just got engaged on the 4th of July (my birthday) after dating my fiancee for 4 years!!! So we are going to be getting married in the first part of November. I'm trying to lose as much as I can for the wedding :) Then I will loosen up a little so I can do OWL. I would love to weigh 175 by then... do u guys think thats a reasonable goal?

Good luck to all of you and your wonderful goals!!! Keep up the great work!

Welcome Katie and Congratulations! I think your goal is realistic. I have been losing an average of 10 pounds a month. I do fairly close to induction but not perfect, and exercise a min. of 3X per week. I keep a very close eye on my caffiene and salt intake and weigh daily. Any chance you can get a more reliable scale, I used to have a scale that varied 2-3 pounds and it wreaked havoc on my emotions!

You can do it, you have a goal and a plan, the rest is just consistancy. I am so happy for you!

Victoria.

W/I isn't until Tuesday for me but I measured today for the week (YES, I said FOR THE WEEK :) )...drumroll please....

Another 2 inches gone off the belly, 1 1/2" off the hips, 1/4" off the boobs. Don't know what the &*^%$! scale will say but the tape measure don't lie, ladies and germs. Heh.

Hi all,
I need to lose 24 lbs to get under that 200 mark!!! My goal is to get there before Halloween. I don't even remember the last time I weighed in the 100's. I think it's been about a dozen years or so. I am starting to feel pretty good but still a LONG way to go. This forum keeps me on the right track.

CONGRATULATIONS, BADGOAT! :yay: :yay:

Mystery....Sorry I forgot to answer you before. My fat % has gone down 1%. I've lost 13 lbs. since I got the Tanita scale so your % is going down faster than mine. But I don't exercise enough.

Welcome, Katiegirl!! Yes, you can make that goal. You have good motivation - fitting into that wedding dress. Congratulations on your engagement. It's a special time in your life. You live in beautiful WA. How lucky you are.

Xplora, Welcome! Glad to have you here. It's so good to have new people in the thread.

Sonja....Good for you - running another 8 miles. You will breeze through that marathon!

HAH!!!~~~ Breeze thru a marathon!!! I wish :) :) :)

Most of my friends can run a marathon (26.3 miles) in about 3~ 3 1/2 hours it will probally take me 5~5 1/2 hours to fnish. But thanks for the vote of confidence. I really am doing this just to finish and prove I can see it thru.

Everyone is doing good. I plan on sticking really close to induction levels this week with carbs but uping my calories. Red meat here I come.
I will weight in on Saturday after my 12 mile run!!! I'm hoping to run at least 10 of those and walk 2. I will be training hard this week to make that goal. With any luck at weight in I should be in the 260's :)

Well I need to get to sleep so I can get an early workout in.
Keep up the great work you super bunch of losers!!!!!

Holy Crap Badgoat! You are melting like a candy bar sitting on the back seat of my car!!!!! :sunny:

Good for you!

My measurements have not changed for weeks. What's up with that? I have lost a little weight but surprised nothing is coming off my measurements. Maybe it is all moving downward due to gravity. My wrists and fingers are definitely thinner. My jewelry is getting loose. Big whoop! Who would notice that but me? I think my face is a little thinner. It's the big gut and hips that frustrate me the most and they are hanging on for dear life. *sigh* I guess I need to do more exercises.

Well, I will certainly let Dawn know she needs to check out this thread.
She's definitely good for a few laughs!

Sonja-Good luck on your 12 mile run! There is no pobbile way I would even attempt such a thing. I would probably be carted off by paramedics after the first mile. :doah:

Mon, Jul-21-03, 14:23
Well, not exactly melting like witchie-poo, but I'm glad I started measuring so I could have *something* to cheer me up. No one has said they've noticed I've lost weight. I have a BIG belly (like it was 45+ inches 2 weeks ago and now it's 42, so you see I have a ways to go -- it used to be 27"). A couple more inches and I will be comfortably back in my size 20 jeans. I like them loose and right now they look good, but are not comfortable to me. I have not been an 18 since 1998 and that will hopefully be here in another month I think. We'll see what the scale says tomorrow. (fingers crossed!)

Thought I would peek in here and see how everyone was... I'm having a bad scale day, it actually read something like 213/214... but that was after breakfast...(usually I weigh first thing in the morning).

I breifly dipped under 200 right before I got pregnant with my youngest 4 years ago. All I did was start drinking nothing but water (gave up my sodas)... but then I went and gained WAY too much weight with her and of course never lost it.

I'm so excited about getting under 200, and eventually getting to shop in the OTHER part of the store for clothes. I don't need a size to confirm I am a woman... LOL!

I have good news: Another 2 lb loss for the week. So at the completion of week six, I've lost 11 lbs. That's a whole cat! And 22 lbs since I started this crazy plan to lose weight last September. That's a whole dog! When I get to 50 lbs (which will be 198), I will take a pic with one of our 50 lb bags of goat feed. Every time I pick one up that's what I think about.

198.4 this morning!!!! Maybe my stubborn body has finally surrendered. Do I dare to begin looking at 190? I can't remember when I was this low. I remember I was 180 after my last DD was born in 72. Slowly began putting it on after that. Lost weight 10 yrs ago but never got below 200.

Badgoat, I'm not going anywhere. I would miss you guys. You all have helped me so much on the bad days. Especially your sense of humor.

BTW, our cats all ranged between 16 and 19 lbs. I've lost 2 19lbers!

That mind set that says "It will NEVER happen" is still there nagging me. I create mini goals in my head ( 60's 50's 40's ...20's 10's...etc.). But each time I hit a new one, I think it will be the LAST! I am 2 pounds away from the 10's and getting so close to the 199 mark I can taste it....And Yet!!!, I think it will not happen. Going to Kansas City to see her this weekend. DS and DDIL are on Atkins too. I'm anxious to see how they are doing. DD#2 is flying in from Vermont, too.

Pinkcaddy, you don't look anything like I imagined. Isn't it funny how we put a picture to a name and it's usually totally wrong. You are a very pretty lady.

Sonja...Looking forward to the pic of your DD. Can't wait until DGD is ready for a bike.

alighterme....Yes, just thinging about 180 or even 190 seems a long way away. It's hard for me to believe that I'm below 200. It's a great motivator. I am going to be sooo good this weekend. I think if I was still stalled I might of been tempted to cheat. Not now. I don't want to spoil this or stall again.

I worked at our local thrift store this afternoon. I volunteer there several times a month. I'm tired and hungry. Going to go cook dinner. Found some nitrate free hot dogs for the grill. And will have my salad. DH will get his favorite baked beans.

Today was my weigh day and I am down just a little under 2 lbs this week. I am really pleased as it is a steady decline, not out of the world like some who conitnue to loose at a really fast rate but I'm pleased with my results.

My holidays start tom and we are off to Penticton for a few days, then Calgary. I will try and keep to my goals and focus but will not let it keep me from having fun. What I mean is I will just keep away from sweets, and processed foods. Opting for protien, fruit and veg. I will try and walk every night too.

I will not be weighing in for 2 weeks. So I will just have to hope when I come back I will see another drop. BUT NO GAIN!!!!

Hi all you wonderful 199er's,

I've been reading the thread and you folks are so amazing! I too am looking to break that magickal number 200 and it's so exciting watching as one by one you all keep pulling it off!

I'm having a very difficult day today. My sister and her husband have made me out to be a truly horrible person and what hurts so badly is they really seem to believe it. :tears:
I've been making so much progress lately and I was so happy. But now I'm having a lot of trouble trying to work up that enthusiasim again. I have my mother and husband cheering me on but beacuse of this I'm still feeling abandoned and very hurt.

I know this little bump won't stop me from reaching my goals but things like this can really do a number on all that great possitive energy that gets built up. I just wanted to let you folks you'll beena real saving grace for me recently and espeically today. Thank you! :spin:

Tygris toxic family members can really mess with you. Maybe your sister is jealous or afraid that your doing well. It seems to me that when others lash out at people they are suppose to love it really comes from there own fears or insecurites. So surround yourself with your husband and mom and grow and feel loved enough to acheive your goals. And hang out here too!!!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend. I ran 10 miles this morning and I must say that every week it gets easier. I must be NUTS!!!! lol But I am feeling good and sore :) Every week the run gets eaisier in my head and that is huge for me. I am actually going to acheive this goal and see it thru to the end!!!!! I have 40 some days till my 15 year class reunion and I am bound and determined to look good and feel strong. I have my own issues with this but don't want to write a book about it here!!

Anyway I have to go to a wedding this afternoon. My mom bought 2 new dresses yesturday and I am actually going to wear the size 20 straight black dress she bought (thanks mom) It fits so good in the bust and is lose in the waist area so I will be totally comfy!!!

Sonja, your daughter is adorable!! And I bet you looked terrific in that dress!! Did you get your pic taken?

Tygris, glad to have you here. Sonja is right. Your sister obviously has the problem, NOT YOU!! Turn that anger and disappointment to your advantage and let it make you more motivated and determined. You can turn a negative into a positive.

The people on this thread are wonderfully supportive. They have motivated me so often. So come back here and visit often. It really helps.

Hi gang,

Not much loss on the tape measure this week, but we'll see what WI says tomorrow. I am dog tired this morning from push-mowercise and chain sawing dead branches this weekend. I'm looking fwd to coming home and communing with my pillow. I did very well over the weekend foodwise, except I probably didn't eat enough. It's so flippin' HOT down here, sometimes I just can't eat, especially on this WOE. Never a problem in the winter.

Everybody keep up the great work!!

Hey Everyone

I had such a long weekend outside so I was exhausted last night. Sunday I was up and out if the house by 5:15 AM (this is sub-human for me !!!) I went to watch a 1/2 Ironman race with about 25 of my clients in it, It was so exciting and fun to see them!!! I just want to run a marathon they swam 1.2 miles in Lake Michigan (61* water temp) then they rode for 56 miles and finished with a 13.2 mile run!!!! They rule!!! I was so impressed by them.

But anyway now I just need to stay motivated. I weighted in this morning and I am still at 276 which is great because Aunt Flo is coming either today or tomorrow so after she leaves I should be lower!!! Keepin' my fingers crossed!!!!

Here is a few pic from the wedding

Your clients are obviously escapees from the local mental hospital...or perhaps the masochist chapter. No, that's really inspiring. Makes my butt hurt just thinking about it!

You can see your face is getting thinner, sweetie!! Keep it up!!

Good Wednesday Morning to everyone

LOL I think some of them are crazy myself!!! But the pay off is a grreat body and they eat what they want alot of the time!! IF only...... Ok back to reality!!! I suppose if we worked out 20-25 hours a week we could too!!!!

Anyway I got 4 miles in yesturday before Aunt Flo deceided to join me. I also got an hour of deep water jogging in too!! Today I would like to run another 3-4 miles outside. I finally got my new shoes and I think this is the pair I have been looking for. They felt awesome :) This weekend I have another 10 mile run to get in. I am also excited about weighting in next monday, I really think I could be close to the 260's. The clothes-o-meter has been getting better.

Well I need to eat my sausage breakfast and take Riley swimming before work.

Hi Everyone.
I am now at 217 this fine morning and happy about that. I was wearing a pair of jeans this morning that magically became way too big. They made my ass look like it was behind my knees, so in the trash they went. They were a big size 20 but still.......I went to the mall and bought a new pair of jeans. This time a size 18! They are a bit tight in the waist though. In fact my gut is kindof squirting out the top and all that water I have been drinking is climbing up my throat looking for a place to hang out. But hey, I am in a size 18!!!! I figure by the end of next month they should fit me less like paint and more like real pants! :) (It's actually only my waistline that is tight when sitting )

Hi, everyone!

Jill, are you apple shaped like me? I've lost a lot more inches on hips and thighs than on the waist. I could probably wear a 14 if it wasn't for my waist.

Sonja, great pics! Thanks for sharing them. You look Great!! Your daughter is so cute! I heard the tall ships are in Chicago. Going to see them? I love boats.

Fishie, at the rate I'm going, you will catch up. Now I'm bouncing between 198 and 200. I should probably stay off the scale everyday, but I'm afraid if I don't monitor the weight daily, it will slip up too far. When it goes up, I'm much more careful of what I eat until it goes back down. I really have to watch the sodium. I know the bouncing is just water retention.

Keep up the good work, everyone. :wiggle:

Well,

I got on the scale this moring an it read 194.5. I'm so excited that I can just scream. I'm not going to change my profile yet. I want to see if it's just some quirky thing with the scale. Just when I get down on myself and feel like I'm working hard and not getting any results the whoosh fairy pays me a visit. It is after my TOM so I probably can count on this 2 lbs loss. I'm so happy today and feel real blessed!!!! No drinks for another week!!! I think that causes me to stall somtime!!! Oh, well life is good!!

Happy LC everybody!!

Believe it, mystery! We're always so quick to believe it when it weighs heavy and never think *that's* a quirk. Congrats!

Way to go everyone...I was up a lb on Tuesday, but down 2 today for a net loss of 1 lb this week. I think I got dehydrated over the weekend, didn't eat enough and overdid LC chocolate over the week. Sigh. Back on track this week.

People at work are asking me all kinds of questions so it must be getting more noticeable, so that's cool. I think it's hilarious that when I go to my AA meetings, not a soul notices. I jokingly tell Anna, I could walk in missing an arm and no one would notice. Self-absorbed lot, but I love them anyway.

Wow!
You guys are awesome! :yay:

I can't wait for the day the scale reads a 1 as my second number- that will be almost as good as moving that 100 pound block on the scale down one notch to 150!! (I use the scale at my gym it's the same kind like at a doctors office with the sliding blocks on it and you balance the arm right in the middle. I've always liked that kind better anyway- more interactive ;) )

And congrates BadGoat on everyone noticing at work! My friends are all pretty dense so i know EXACTLY what you mean when you say your AA group won't notice if you walked in missing an arm! The few times I have gotten any comments on my amazing shrinking act was only when I had mentioned something about it myself first!
the folks at my gym have started to notice though. Good people. it's so validating isn't it to know the shrinking isn't all somehow in your head. :) We are way to quick to dismiss the possitives and take the negatives as fact.

Keep up the amazing job everybody! here's your cheering section!!

I am finding that by cutting out diet sodas, all "legal" sweets, drinking lots of water and cutting back a little on the calories, that I am losing much much faster than before.

Hopefully she will be gone soon. This weekend is going to be really tough. I will be at the State Fair friday and all day sunday. Has anyone ever heard of our cream puffs (they are to die for) so it will be interesting. They will also have plenty of sausages to eat and of course CHEEESE!!!!!!!

Well I need to get to work and then deep water jogging for an hour. Then I need to clean the house tonight so hopefully that will not make me hungry and I should be fine!!!!! Actually coming here really helps me work thru these times. Thanks everyone for listening!!!

Pinkcaddy....I've been missing you. Glad you havn't left us. I sympathize. I am bouncing up and down too. It was disheartening this morning to see that '2' again. Oh, well. One day at a time.

badgoat...My cousin is in AA and he notices everything about me. 2 weeks ago he gave me the nicest compliment I've gotten so far. hi, still on vacation but have access to my brother in laws computer. Been on holidays for just a week. I have been fairly good with only a few cheats and those were small. Had a couple of bites of my son's popsicle, it is so hot here were are in a major heat wave. Ate way to many nuts but have stayed away from all the major starches just had some veg's not on OWL (carrots mostly).

The restaurant food though has sent me a bit off, started my IBS a bit, but not as bad as before. Having some home cooking now that we are at family and this has settled it.

We head home on Sunday which should be interesting as there are several fairly significant forest fires on route. Even here in Calgary we have a smoky haize from the forest fires.

Anyways it was great touching base with you guys, and you all seem to be doing so well. It continues to be an inspiration.

WOW Everyone is doing so wonderfull It's great to come hear and hear how great and sucessful everyone is doing!!!!

I have had a busy few days, haven't gotten a chance to post much. But I got an 11 mile run in this morning and I felt good!! I ran too late in the morning so I was fighting the heat the last 3 miles or so. But I finished and felt great from it. I am hoping to get up early and get my tae bo video in before we leave for the Sate Fair in the morning. My eats have been good to. I will be wearing the size 18 shorts I bought a few weeks back, they fit well and I will be able to eat in them too!!! lololol My next weight in is monday at the club, BUT I stepped on my scale at home to see if I was closer to the 270 limit is has and it landed firmly on 270. I stepped on and off 3 times lolololol I am hoping to see 269 monday PLEASEEEEE Aunt Flo should be gone by then also :) All this running and I added Tae Bo and jumping rope has finally started to pay off. I have 5 weeks till my 15 year class reunion and I am looking to be strong and healthy for it. At 5'11 I could pull off 250's pretty well. Low 250's should put me in a size 16. OK I don't want to get ahead of myself!!!

I had my 40th class reunion last September. I was the heaviest I've ever been. (But so was almost everyone else. It's amazing that all those thin girls in HS are now 'plump' too.) Can't wait until my next one in 2007.

Hey, gang, I saw a new low this morning - 196. I was really good yesterday. Hardly any snacks. Total calories were 1400 and carbs were net 16 even with my strawberries and cream. Evidently too much snacking and just eating too much keeps me from losing. I'm learning, but slowly. I also worked hard outside yesterday morning, trimming hedges, watering and weeding. Might have just sweat off those 2 lbs.

I was just posting on another thread about the rate of % lost. I figured out the % I had lost each month and WOW! was I surprised. I thought I had been losing so slowly. It's just that it's so uneven. This is what I found:

Induction - 19%, Mo. 1 (not including Induc.) - 8%, Mo. 2 - 14%, Mo. 3 - 9%. :yay:

Why do I complain? :doah:

katiegirl
Sun, Aug-03-03, 15:17
ALMOST THERE!! I am down to 200.5 give me a few days an hopefully I can be officially inducted into your club!!! :)

I have lost faster in the last month than ever before, just about as fast as my beginning induction! Whats my secret? Well if you haven't read it before, here it is:

1. No sodas (yes it is hard at first but well worth the increased loss)
2. No sweets, even "legal" atkins ones (again, worth the loss if that is your focus)
3. Lots of water
4. Excersise (duh)

By doing these things, my carbs are staying around 10 or less.

For a lot of you, quick loss isn't the most important or desired, but for me- I am getting married in the end of Sept. so I just wanted to share what is working for me!!

Thanks you guys! Can't wait to join you in the 100's :yay:

Boy, you are really disciplined. I have a problem being motivated to exercise. Don't have a problem with the other things. My carbs come mostly from vegies and my strawberries and cream (my one indulgence), but even without the berries I couldn't keep under 10.

Tygris
Sun, Aug-03-03, 17:57
Goodness Wow!
I couldn't keep under 10 either! I have a major problem with depression (seems it's a family curse) and when i get too low on those carbs- boom. I'm down like a sack of bricks just landed on me. I read that that was because carbs help with the whole serotin thing going on in the head.
It's the whole reason i'm doing the somersizing woe and not atkins (even though atkins was the first LC wol I was exposed to and is what works for the rest of my family doing working at weight loss.)
(maybe it's that I jsut gotta have my fruit! )

Badgoat...I was reading a low carb book yesterday and it was specifically dealing with women and low carb eating. Apparently for many women the two weeks from ovulation to TOM are very difficult to lose weight. Many women can only maintain during this time and do all their losing between the middle of TOM for the two weeks to ovulation. Just a thought, I don't know if it helps in your situation or not.

It also said that during the 'slow' two weeks we are more hungry and have more cravings...now I definately know that God is a male! Have a fabulous day and hang in there!

Hi, everyone,
glad to see everyone is still doing so well. I am home now for a couple of days then head out for the weekend to Vancouver Island.
I think I may have done ok on the holiday but I will tellyou the initial plan of not having to cook and eat out all the time sounded like a good plan. But I can tell you I don't want to look at another menu for a long time! I did manage to keep to the WOE though with just the odd lick of ice cream or bite of popsicle, never had one of my own. Kind of like the smoker I see who takes just a puff from some one. But for me that was as far as it went. Other than a bit of extra fruit not on OWL I have not had any "cheats".
IT'S great to be home and eating my own cooking. I will weight in on Monday and then will know if I have lost, at least hopefully I will have maintained. I did alot of walking in record heat so I probably sweated off a pound or 2 lol. Swam alot as well the first part so I kept up some exercise. Monday will be the day.

thanks for all the support and the great inspirations!

I've been doing a lot better as well. (now that Tom is gone- it's great to be on BC- you can tell tom to just go away when time's up :) )

I swam last night! I didn't think I could with the cramping and psuedo 'morning sickness' (I have a fibroid cyst my body attempts to 'give birth to' every month during TOM so it brings a whole new level of unpleasantness to what is supposed to a natural healthy experience.... snort)
But I did it and i'm so proud! I distracted myself with a book while jogging around in the pool- it was halarious!
Today has me running all over town getting things ready for the garage sale this weekend and the trip to colorado next weekend. Sigh- my work is never done ;)

hope every one is having a great day!

Oh and another rather funny observation- I'll be walking out of my pants soon! I wear a lot of linen out here in the Kansas summer and those elastic bands on the pants stay up- sorta... but if I have anything in my pockets (like my tiny little cell phone) they slowly migrate south. I find I'm always having to hitch them back up! and what's worse is my capris are starting to look like MC hammer pants!!!
i just bought this wardrobe to motivate me to start caring about how I look again and now I go and lose so much weight they don't fit any more!

I want you guys to be first to know....(big drum roll).....I actually EXERCISED this morning! I told myself I was being a whimp and if I was ever going to get rid of this loose flab I have to move. So I did 1 mile on WATP. That was all I could do, not having done it regularly. I need to The Firm or Pilates or something, too. I have lots of tapes but lack motivation.

fishie...I think just living in NY would BE a vacation. It's so beautiful there. We've been through Buffalo, Rochester, Albany, the so. Adirondacks, and across I84 in the south. DD#2 lives in Burlington, VT so have been through there several times. Have fun on your vacation.

badgoat....Maybe I told you this before, but one of my best friends went on Atkins just after I did and has only lost 5 lbs. It mystifies me because I can't see what she's doing wrong. It has to be her metabolism or something. She takes Atkins Dieters Advantage, too, and also lives in the country and works hard. She doesn't have goats, though!

Way to go on the exercise. The key as I am sure you know, is to start of slowly so that you don't get hurt and want to stop. That whole no pain no gain theory may work for somepeople, but when I am in pain I am no longer having fun!

Good morning, gang!

After I made the hormone comment the other day I've learned something. On one of the threads there was a link to an article about estrogen. It was long but the bottom line is that HRT isn't necessary. Drs. have been convinced by drug cos. that we need them. After menopause we still produce just as much estrogen. The shocking part for me was this: HR and BC haven't changed since developed in 1938 even though drug cos. say they are improved and less dangerous. Originally it was called 'stibestrol.' That shocked me because I remember back in the 50's there was a big debate when farmers began giving it to cattle to make them gain weight faster. This Dr. being interviewed said the only time women should take them is for a limited time during menopause to control hot flashes and night sweats. If anyone is interested, the article was on WebMD. Anyone taking BC or HRT should read it.

I've noticed lately that within 15 min. of eating a meal I get very warm and start to sweat. Almost like a hot flash. Anyone else noticed this? I suppose it's due to increased metabolism that increases body heat.

We're going to a big county fair in Sioux Falls tomorrow. Maybe I'll walk off and sweat off a few lbs. It's supposed to be over 90 tomorrow.

I am several years past menapause and hot flashes. But.....ever since I started this WOL, I have had what feels like hot flashes after I eat. Now what convinced me that it wasn't hot flashes is that this happens to my husband too! Very strange but I think it is my metabolism heating up. By the way...I never took any replacement hormones.

Only 3 pounds to go till you pass the 200 mark! I'm so jealous!
Congratulations on your disipline too. You made it through what must have been an amazingly stressful week and stuck to your guns!
I can only hope to be so determined when I visit my mother in colorado next week!

Way to go Emily! Wow! Time away and a wedding and you lost weight! Good for you. Usually when someone messes with my routine I struggle. Great job!

Barb, the hormorne thing....no comment! I have just come off of one of the worst hormonal hell weeks of my life. I was weepy, selfish, short tempered and then apologetic. This cycle repeated itself about every 5 minutes (only a slight exageration). I take a Dr. prescribed high blood pressure pill 2 weeks before my period to help with the insanity. This month I didn't take it. While now I know it works.

Have a fabulous day everyone.

PS...back down to 197 this morning....shooting for 194 by the weekend. My brother is coming to town, he last saw me last summer at 274. The funny thing is he doesn't know I have lost weight...should by a rewarding experience!

Bye for now!

Happy Monday, gang!

You guys have inspired me so much that I joined the Y this weekend and worked out both days. I feel smaller already. The tape said I've lost another 1/2" off the boobs but nothing from the hips and belly. Here's hoping the exercise will stoke things up...

Keep up the great work!

Hi, all congrats on all the progress you guys have made and the continued support. I am back to work now, and back from holidays. And to day was weigh day as I weigh on the scale here at work. I did alright, lost 1 lb which is better than gaining. that was in 2 weeks. I was kind of hoping it would be a bit more as I really tried to be good but I did eat a lot more fruit and nuts.
I am home now and back to routine so onward and back to the treadmill as well.
Keep up all the great work and inspiration.
Have a great day.

Huggs, 1lb loss is great! :yay: I'd be ecstatic with 1lb in 2 weeks.

alighterme...thanks for the confirmation. I was sure it had to be metabolism. Makes me feel good to know it's working!

Emily, congratulations! I'm sure it will hold. You will be in the 100's in no time. We can have another party!

Victoria....what a beautiful name. It fits you. Be sure and let us know your brother's reaction. I'm sure he'll be shocked. You've lost about 80 lbs. That's terrific! :yay:

badgoat....Can you work out for me too? I'll be anxious to hear of your results. Maybe it will inspire me to do something. :agree:

Sonja...I went to a county fair on Saturday. We could have eaten there, they had pork tenderloin and prime rib sandwiches, but no vegies so talked DH into eating after we left. He loves fair food, but he was a good sport. He never complains when I am fussy about where we eat. You know, I just had an idea. It would be really neat to have a food stall at the fair with healthy, LC food. I would do that if I could afford to invest in the equipment.

Well, I need to go outside and work for some exercise. Been doing desk work all day. CYL

sd grandma, you are such a support for all of us. I'm getting closer, within 10 pounds now but with vacation this is going to be tough, leaving in the morning for a car ride to Michigan for a week, then back to the lake. Of course this heat is helping because its too hot to eat. good vibes everyone.

I'm probably weird, but I do better away from home. It seems like all my bad food habits are connected with being at home. Whenever I sit down at my desk I think I have to munch. And when I read I think I have to munch. When I'm away from home I'm away from all the triggers that make me want to eat. And I think it is so easy to order in a restaurant and I DON'T HAVE TO COOK IT!! I just order meat and salad and I'm happy. I cooked in restaurants for years and now I just hate to cook. It's so boring at home. And I have to cook 2 meals - 1 for DH and 1 for me. He usually eats the same meat but has to have potatoes and either corn or peas. His vegie tastes are very limited. Sometimes he wants spaghetti or a hotdish or something I can't have. It's hard to cook when you can't taste it. I'm a 'dump' cook. I just dump things together. I never measure unless I'm baking. I think I'm rambling again.....Bye!

Barb, thanks for the kind words. You made me laugh talking about fair food. My DH races and so we spend a lot of weekends at the track. I now have both him and his father complaining about the track food. They used to look forward to it. They have tuna sandwiches and berry's and I have tuna, mayo, vegis, berries etc. Isn't it awesome to have supportive people to surround ourselves with!

Have a fabulous Tuesday everyone!

Victoria from Victoria...what kind of race cars - stocks? sprints? Is racing different in Canada?

We used to go to the races every week when we were younger. But as I got older I couldn't handle the noise and dust. DH is into Nascar now. They have a new big track in Kansas City where DS lives. They have lifetime seats and we go down twice a year for races. I babysit with my GD and they go to the races. The Winston Cup is coming up in Oct. I love having my GD all to myself.

I know it won't be easy but I know I will finish. Even if I have to walk some of it I will finish. And with any luck I will do it just around the 2:15 mark. They will put me at about 5 hours for the marathon, which is were I would like to be. ButI will remember FINISHING IS WINNING!!!
Thanks to everyone for the support I really appreciate it :rheart:

Other than that I booked my ticket to Hawaii this morning!!!!! I amsooooo very excited for that trip. I am going for the Ironman Race with one of my clients. I have been watching ticket prices for 5 months now andthey have gone from $788 to today at $634 so I took it!!!!
I will be with a bunch of toned and trim bodies for 8 days, I am already way taller than them soI don't want to be extremely fatter than them. Talk about motivation to stay on track!!!!!! lololol

Well, I just walked a mile. It was really hard this morning. But it's really humid today. It was so cool last night I turned off the air cond. and opened the windows. But I think I'll have to turn it on. I'm sitting here sweating up a storm and you know how sweat smells in ketosis!! I think I will head for the shower.

I have the WATP for abs, with the belt & resistance bands. This morning I used 5# dumbells instead. I can really feel it in my upper body. The band just don't do it. I have ankle weights too and when I can do 1 mile easily again I will use those to get a more resistance training walk.

I know 1 mile doesn't sound like much, but I'm a weakling. I am uncoordinated and as a child couldn't do the athletic games other kids could do. That's probably why I was always overweight. Whenever I tried to play with them I made a fool of myself. They would get disgusted with me and that's tough for a kid. I've gotten over most of the psychological problems of being a fat kid, but not my aversion to anything that sounds athletic.

I guess if I had a journal, I could vent in that and not bore you all. Sorry. I'm trying to deal with this exercise thing.

It's never too late to start, and like that stupid (but true) ad, "Just Do It!" You're doing fabulously and you'll be doing long walks in no time if you add distance slowly.

Carry on, girl!

Hey Barb you are already a winner just for getting off the couch and getting moving. Everyone is different and that's what makes us all special. Everyday you get moving it will eventually get easier and one day after your walk you realize "Hey that was fun and easy!!" The key is persistance. I have always been athletic but when I started running this year at my weight let me tell you it wasn't pretty but I just kept with it and now everytime I go out it seems to get a little easier and more confortable. And I'm stubborn I refuse to give up!! (Not always a good thing!!) haha

Well I need to get to the gym. I ran hills earlier inthe week and my knee was a bit swollen so I took yeaturday off . I will be doing the elipitcal trainer today so as not to cause more impact. Saturday I have another 12 mile run. Save the knees!!!!

I hope everyone has a great day

Yes you guys are an inspiration to all!
I got back on the treadmill last night as well, after being on Holidays and all. It still took a bit to get back into it, but once I start again I WILL get back into the routine.

I continue to be a Atkins supporter but was just reading up on the Zone diet as Mom needs to loose wt (5'2" 260 at least and HIGH BP) and her Dr. is adamant that the Atkins is DANGEROUS so she won't even try. Is anyone on the Zone or are well all Atkins troup. It appears to be more middle ground.

Pinkcaddy,
I just realized that you are from this neck of the woods, actually I was in Victoria on Saturday, visiting with friends who moved to Mill Bay.

Sonja,
you are an inspiration, thought of you as I was on the Treadmill, doing my 20 min incremental walking which adds up usually to a mile at 4-8% incline. I walk, don't think I could run and YOU are doing 12 miles, way to go.

Emily,
I was able to put my mothers ring on again to which my children bought me 3 years ago it feels good when we can have these special items back on. Part of me envies the make over and wt loss show on OPRAH and the like where the redo their weddings ect. Last year when I got married my dress was a 24-26, I bought a pair of pants (snug) this week that were a 16. I would love to have some "skinny" wedding pictures now!

anyway off I go back to work now :)

For some reason I have the Happies!!! Not sure if that is a word but it's how I feel. I am in a great mood and nothing has taken me down this week. I got a great workout in this afternoon. I have really been listening to my body and I think that's really working. Well see tomorrow I am going to try 14 miles Lord Help Me !! haha

That is the farthest I have every run. I did 1 hour of just high fat burning cardio on the elipitcal trainer. It was at 15 incline and 1 resistance, and it showed I burned 475 cals in an hour!! :hyper: I need to run at about 7:30 am so I can beat the heat!!! But 2:30 hours later I will be done! I also tried clothes on today and I can really see that my inner tube aroundthe middle is deflating!! Not as fast as I would like but does it ever??!! I am going to try to get my mom to take a picture so I can post it this week.

Oh and the biggest revolation of the day is that when I was stretching I reached down for my ankle and looked at my sock. Socks have always been a littl snug there, but today it just sat there!! Just like the skinny chicks!!!!!! I know this sounds weird but if you've every had a imprint after wearing socks you'll understand!!!!!!

OK I have babbled long enough!!! I hope you everyone has a great weekend and stays cool too!!
Thanks for listening, love you guys much!!!!

Hey guys,
i'm in colorful colorado on vacation at ny folks place with my DH.
And so far i've really amazed myself. I haven't cheated once even though it was my brother's birthday and cake smelled sooo good, and even though there is plenty of soda around to drink or fast food!
It's actually been easy. Pop is on atkins so there was already much in the house that i could eat and my mother/family is already used to seeing the low-carb thing in action. But I'm pleased to say I'm really teaching them something- that low-carbing is FUN too. You see my mother has never been a great cook- she just doesn't enjoy it like I do, so it's been lots of plain steak or chicken meals for Pop and salads for her.
But yesterday i made a pizza FEAST- cooked up 4 kinds of low carb pizzas and watched as Pop just stuffed himself silly! Between him and my 4 brothers and husband my mother and I would doing well to get the few pieces that we did!
My DM, the sweet wonderful woman she is!- made dinner tonight by sneaking into the kitchen and cracking open one of the somersizing books I brought with me so she could make the zucchini alfredo I had mentioned ! It was good too! And she almost didn't get any as my brothers (who scoffed at the idea of using zucchini as noodles) almost ate it all before she could get a plate down for herself!
I really love cooking for my whole family again. It's so gratifying to work hard over the stove and watch contentedly as it all disappears- no leftovers here, no sirree!
I should open a low-carb restaraunt.......

Hmmm- well tomorrow is more crazy activity and I'll try out my tomato bisque on them (so thick it's a meal by itself) and maybe the swedish meatballs later!

Happy eating everyone!

Tygris that is so great that your family is supportive and how neat to be able to cook and not have them turn there noses up at it!! Altho guys usually eat anything just minus a pulse!!!!!!! haha Have fun and Iknow you'll do grgreat for the rest of your vacation

Well I went to runthis morning and gosh was it hot out!!! Now I love the heat but here in WI we have not had consistant heat 85 one day 70 the next. Get the idea!! So today when the group I run with started at 8am it was already 78 and humid and hazy. After the first 8 miles I had to powerwalk just to save myself from overheating!! I had one gatorade and one full bottle of H2O at that point. So I thought to myself that I could collapse at this rate so I did the smart thing and power walked. Still kept my heart rate up and worked my legs and butt!! I finished 12 miles )was hoping for 14) Thanks Goodness the mararthon in Chicago is in Octobe, when it will most likely be cooler!

Well I am going to go to Applebee's with my family this afternoon and let me tell you I am having a salad and I have a craving for a swiss mushroom burger (no bun, or course ) and grilled veggies in olive oil!!!!!!!
I know some of you cringed when you saw I drank Gatorade. But when you are running/walking for that you I can work it off easily and my body needs to replace the sodium and electrolites I am losing too. So don't worry I only drinnk that on long runs of 10 or more miles.

Have a great day
Sonja

Great job today! Proud of you, and completely understand about the gatorade. Sometimes I bring orange wedges too, but only eat them if I am desperate for energy and have a long way to go still. I am not saying I recommend it, just saying it helps me!

Hi Everyone,
Hope you don't mind another person joining your group.I am now at 218 and looking forward to htting 199 some time before the end of the year.I know I can do it with a lot of encouragement.

I started on Atkins in January.Did pretty good till May.Since then I have been losing and gaining the same 3 pounds over and over again.

I started riding my stationary bike faithfully 3 weeks ago.The odometer on the old one didn't work so I got a new one.My hubby and I put it together over the weekend. Now I can see how far I have gone.I rode it 6 miles on Saturday and 3 miles yesterday.Hope to ride it at least 4 miles every day.Yesterday I worked out on my daughter's treadmill so wasn't up to riding the stationary bike 4 miles.

I am a 52 year old grandmother who stays busy looking after her 2 year old grandson while his parents work.

Keep up the good work everyone. Will look forward to getting to know you.

Welcome Nancy!!

We would love to have you join us. Everyone here is very helpful and supportive.

Pink I understand what your saying. In cases of long exercise sessions you need to be smart. Oranges are good because that's natural sugars and they burn faster than processed stuff. I know inthe marathon they give out oranges and bananas too.

I got 45 mins of cardio in today and some abs. And now I am making a Deep Dishes Pizza Quiche. I plan on freezing in it and having it last 2 weeks. Also going to share with my mom too.

Hope everyone had a grreat monday

I had the munchies big time in between all that also. So that pizza quiche I thought would last two weeks ~~ GONE!!! Well at least it wasn't the the chocolate I really wanted.

I ran 3 miles easy today and then lifted legs. That really made me feel good, just to get moving. That was really what helped me get motivated. But gosh I still feel "slosshie" That's my word for too much retained fuilds.

Well I also have deep water jogging tonight so maybe that will help me feel better too. Of and I am drinking lots of H2o also.

I hope everyone has a great day

Thanks for the nice welcome.
Pink thanks for asking if I have set a date to when I want to be at 199.I haven't done that but to be honest I should.I seem to do better when I have a goal set out in front of me.

While I am at it I will now set a date.I would like to be at 199 by December 25th.That would be an awesome Christmas gift to myself. That gives me 4 months.I should lose more than 18 pounds in that time frame but I would love to at least get to 199.

Sonja....I see that you are also a fan of Dr.Phil.I am really excited for his new season of shows to start. He is going to be doing a series of shows on losing weight and has a weight loss book coming out.I am anxious to get that book.I have gone to his web site and read a lot of his motivational writings concerning losing weight.

Risha,
Congratulations on getting below 200.What a great feeling that must be.I can't wait till that happens.

I haven't been losing much lately but have been riding my stationary bike every day for 4 weeks now.I needed some new fall and winter clothes since I know everything from last winter will be way too big.I picked out some really nice size large tops and tried them on.They all fit.I have been wearing mostly x-large and some large tops so it was a great feeling to buy all large size tops.

Our stats are almost the same.I started at 244 but I am still hanging in there at 218.That bothers me some but I know that I am still losing inches and have read that losing inches is a better indicator of fat lost than losing pounds.I still want to see that scale go down!!

Is that your daughter in the picture with you?She is so cute. What is her name?

Nancy- yes that is my daughter, she is almost 4 and a handful! Her name is Cadence. When did you start? I actually started at the very end of April, but didn't find this place till June. It looks like you are doing GREAT too!

I would kill to be able to wear Larges. I am, ahem, well endowd and just started wearing XLs comfortably recently (The girls finally shrunk a little)... I'm still not comfortable in button up shirts unless they are a 2X, always feel like they are gaping open. As for pants, I've went from a 24 that fit pretty well to 22 that is loose and 20 that is about right. I CAN even get on my 18s but they are still a little tight and make me feel self concious. I got brave and bought a pair of 14/16 pants at a sale recently to have new goal pants... :) I've not been that size since I was a teen... Can't wait!

Pink- You know, my birthday must be a special day then... LOL, I also share it with my ex mother in law, but she was cool... so, no biggie. Oh, and my daughter in my picture, hers is the 22nd... LOL (September is when all those Holiday conceptions are born and also everyone is trying to keep warm... LOL)

Whew~!
I'm back from colorado what a trip!
i feel fantastic!!! I ate wonderful food i prepared for my family (who also loved it!)
and even though I didn't think i was going reach my goal of working out at least 4 times while I was there I did get them in by adding my aerobics workouts to my upper and lower body workouts. Man was I SORE!! But with nothing to do but sit in a car all day on the way home after that I had time to recover. I took double vitimans though- so I really wasn't very sore the day after like I thought I would be.

I measured myself today and I'm at a total of 10 and 1/2 inches lost since I started this wol!! It's that cool?! and I'm less then 10 pounds away from my lean body mass goals too. Just need to keep cracking away at those fat pounds!

I've started classes and am now getting down to business again. Sigh. Time for homework (already).

AND WOW!!!!! guys!! Look at all that wieght lost while i was away! WAY to GO!!!! And more than one broke that 200 mark!! that is just so inspiring! I can't wait to join you there!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Wow, this thread has grown since I quit coming here (after I quit atkins) I just fininshed my 1st week of Atkins induction. I'm not changing my stats until I get to my wieght I was at before I quit.
Why did I quit??? Doctors and everyone convinced me I should...but you know what? I've gained back 20 pound since then... So I'm back!
I was a part of this group before even though I had the furthest to go to reach 199, but It's always inspiring for me to read about people reaching it. That's my first real goal, this time around, I'm not putting time frames on my weight loss, well at least for now. I'm glad I read the last few pages on this thread, it was so exciting.

I first wanted to see if I could post a picture and if it worked.
I tested myself and no ketosis as of yet....although....I did lost about 5 pounds last week ( my first week) I have cut down my insulin demands to only 1 shot a day ( instead of 3) and it was a midday urine and not the first of the morning...does that REALLY matter what time it is??
I am not going to lose to faith just yet .
Does anyone else have this problem.....I am not hungary,,,,,but my craving for something sweet, just wont quit! I fell like I battle with it evey night after dinner. I have the sugar free jelllo...any other ideas?
Thanks....Nancy
PS.....I forgot who I was going to write this to.....(and I cant go back without deleting this) but I moved from Indiana about 3 years ago)..I kinda miss it and REALY miss my friends!

Hi everyone!! I am not new to the forum, but I am brand new to this thread. Pinkcaddy, thank you for starting this!! 199 is a number I have not seen since 1988 and I am determined to see it again!!! I would like to meet that mini goal by Dec 31 of this year. May be possible, yes? I sure hope so!

I am very excited to get to know all of you, and will visit often! Take care!!

OK I now have a new rule. No dates right before TOM!! I went on a date with a new guy Sat for lunch and even thou it went good he's not interested in another. I look too much like his sister and he's not attracted to her!!! What a lame a$$ excuse. So of course with that and Tom it put into a complete full blown carb feast!!! WHY I ask, why am I soo weak!!!!!! Oh well it's over and I am back to normal this morning. But man I can feel it this morning. Swelling fingers are no fun, so off to the gym i go this morning to keep the damage low!!!

Other than that things are good, I had a good Sun with my daughter and some friends and this week will be very busy. 14 days till Disney!!!! And 12 days til the Reunion. Much more important things in my life happening!!!

Happy Monday

I've been struggling with water weight problems (see my journal for details). Saw 200 last week and was thrilled, but I've been as much as 205 since then. Today's WI was 201...could it be that I will finally get to have a ONE as the first number in my weight?

Hopefully yours,

I stopped weighing myself b/c I was getting discouraged. I did start an exercise/weight program and that could be the culprit. I will weigh again in 3 weeks and see where I am. Right now I am doing the Stillman diet (you can do a search, or look in Xplora's journal for more info) to see if I can get something moving again. I may have to rob a bank and have liposuction to preserve my sanity.

badgoat: If my experience is any clue, your lifting weights may be the direct cause of scale stall. You know I've been lifting for years, sometimes very seriously...did it only sporadically for the year before I started this diet...and when I restarted my weightlifting program this May, after being LC for 2 months and losing about 15 lbs, the scale absolutely refused to move for almost 30 days. It was demoralizing. After the first month of weights, though, the scale loss picked up again.

If it's been a very long time since you did weights, then you may well put on anywhere from 2 - 8 pounds of muscle in the first 6 weeks, but you should still be losing fat. AFAIK this is the only situation in which it is possible to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time...beginning weight training for the first time or coming back from a long layoff. Measurements and clothing tell the tale best (except for me in the last week with the hormonal hell).

Even now, if I introduce a new exercise or go really heavy to the point where it causes a lot of soreness the next day, I can count on about 2 lbs of water retention which lasts 1 1/2 - 2 days. This is in addition to my "normal" hormonal stuff and whatever else I've done to my body, like drinking too much Rioja and so forth.

FWIW.

Well I guess with the start of school tomorrow summer is kind of over. Here in the southern of BC we conitnue with unreal hot and dry weather, but the nights are cooler and shorter. But it will be back to routine and school and all that with my son.
I think the routine will be good for getting back on track. Not that I was really off track but somehow the routine was gone and I think that will be abit better.
I was not feeling well the past couple of weeks, IBS flaired up so I upped my water and went back to 20 carbs today. Today I feel a bit better so maybe I will get it back under control. Last week was the first gain I had, even though it was only 1 lb it was discouraging. I had heard that bloating added wt but now I know for sure.
I have joined the Christmas challenge, and noted a few of a familiar names. We all hope to loose 25 lbs by xmas. What a Christmas gift that would be.
I just finished "the secret to low carb success"by LauraRichard. It is a book that looks at all the diets and their points in condense version. As well as info on stalls and how to get out them.
Very easy reading and good info. Lots of web site references as well. for anyone that would be interested I would recommend it.

Keep well and positive thoughts to you all.

Hi everyone,
Haven't posted here in awhile since I was rather discourged.I have been rather bloated and the scale was heading up instead of down. The other day much to my surprise I found out why.My TOM came around.I am 52 and hadn't seen it since February. To be honest with you, I was figuring that I had seen the last of it and was in the big M.Was glad to see the reason for my bloating and gain.

Just yesterday I had a nice whoosh and the scale is now heading back down.

Still hoping to reach 199 by Christmas now that I am in a better frame of mind about all of this.
I continue to ride my stationary bike for exercise.I have now ridden it 101 miles since August 18th.I am rather proud of that accomplishment considering I hadn't ridden my stationary bike for a long extended amount of time since I first got one a year ago.

Welcome back Nancy, I am glad that you didn't give up. there are a lot of reasons why we have stalls and slight gains even if we have kept to this WOE. Why are we always so hard on ourselves. Good that you found out. And I am sure you can be at the 199 by Xmas. I think that is a realistic goal and I am hoping to be down down down by then too. We can be encouraged here to keep on track.

Keep up the good work

I'm hoping that I will have a drop too, I am being really bad and keep weighing myself almost daily, it's become like an obsession. I walk past the scale here at work, and do the lets just see, no I shouldn't dance but do anyway and daily I am up and down 1- 1.5 lbs. I offically was down 2 pounds on my new wt day on Tues. but had been up 1 lb the week before so that was only a 1 pound loss really.

I think my TOM's are all screwed up, I read that this WOL can do that. I may be pre - TOM which would explain the "tension". Has anyone else found that this WOE changed their cycle. OR could it be pre menapausal???

Welcome Pattie!!
Looks like you don't have far to go- congrates! I hope to be buying property in onerland myself- but I've been on a stall now for a few weeks after some major pound droppage (10 lbs a week for 3 weeks!! Man i was one happy chicky!)
Looks like my body is building muslce now- my inches keep shrinking and I'm lifting another 10 lbs like it was nothing during workouts so that is my focus right now so I don't get down on myself for the complete standstill in the poundage department.
With your awesome sense of humor- you're going to fit right in here!! ; )

Hugs-
I noticed a bit of weirdness with my TOMs as well- I used to be like clockwork but things got a bit more random after a few months eating low-carb. Not much though- but then my body has always reminded me of a work horse just plugging along, nothing much bothers it. I'm on birth control now though (which was chosen to help with my cramping) that has had the added benefit of regulating everything. Maybe your doc will have some good ideas/advice for you?

I've been doing awesome the last few days. Probably because I feel guilty about today- This is a cheat day that's been planed for some time. I'm volenteering at the local zoo that has a huge bash every year as a fundraiser that pays for the entire year's budget!! All the rich elite go and 'bid' on the animals at a mock auction- basically it buys them the right to name the animal and maybe get thier name on a little plaque displayed infront of it's habitat. But all the local restraunts fight for the right to cateer the event and there are always hundreds of food booths handing out thier best stuff for free (since it's a cover charge to get in and everything else is 'on the house'). And for volenteers- we work half the event and get to enjoy the party for the other half as a 'thanks' from the zoo. And I just can't see my way to pass up top shelf drinks and 5 star restraunt foods!

I've found something interesting though- the more reguarly you work out the easier it gets to drag your butt to the gym! (Thank god too cause for quite some time dragging my carcess to the gym to go get sweating and stinking was literally the hardest thing I've ever had to do!)

Keep pushing for it all you great losers!!

Hi gang!

I've not been here much lately but I'm still plugging along. I'd hoped to hit 199 by mid-October, but it's not likely. I've been in a stall for the last month (5 weeks I think) and haven't lost lbs or inches. Soooo, I've changed tracks a bit. I started Body for Life yesterday and feel much more motivated now that I have a 12 week time-limited challenge going. Here's a forum sticky on doing Body for Life and LC (http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=29683).

I've changed my stats to reflect body fat lost rather than pounds. It's totaly a mental thing for me. I'm still around 223-225 and have lost 25 lbs. since last September. Better than gaining. I also took a few months off from November to June, so I really can't complain. At 21% BF I should weigh around 160, my original goal. BMI doesn't reflect bone structure or muscle mass, so I may weigh slightly more. Doesn't matter. In this case, size really *does* matter.

I'll be posting my journey in my journal so feel free to stop by. I'll drop over here, too, but I won't be weighing much during this time, just measuring once a week.

GO LOSERS!

I hope to loose 25lbs for Christmas, joined the Christmas challenge but will do a mini goal now to be in Onerland by our Canadian Thanksgiving which will be Oct 13. That will be 6 weeks and I (just erased hope to) WILL DO IT :agree:
I finally measured myself, sorry that I didn't do it to start with but I have gone down 2-3 sizes so I know I lost more inches than the scale tells me I lost pounds.
Tomorrow is weigh in and I will see how I am doing, it's close to TOM and I hate the stalls and gains around this time.

Keep at IT,

:yay: way to go Becky
Keep up the good work.

Well I got my TOM this morning which would explain the gain yesterday, I kind of thought that was it but when you see the scale go up you get discouraged. These last 3 weeks have been very frustrating with a 1 pound gain then loss then gain again. I've tried to figure out what may be happening, keeping my food counts on fitday and I have always been under 25 carbs and calories around 1500 or less. Worried I'm going to stall so I bought some CLA and green tea extract. I will try this till it's run out and see if it makes a difference. Unfortunately I did not research it really well, it was an impulse buy and after checking out some threads last night I noticed that I will have to take 2 caps 3x a day to get near the right dose of CLA and hopefully it will work because most people noted that brands other than "tanolin" I believe it was did not match up. Oh well I will give it a try. Has any one here tried these?

I set a goal for onerland and really want to make it. Oh yah I wasn't drinking enough so that is one thing I have gotten back into this week.

Just a little update.
I've got one week left on my first Body-for-Life challenge and it's gone well. 30 lbs of fat lost and about 10 lbs of muscle gained. I feel soooo much better (but am a little discouraged that I'm still not looking as I would like and my BF is still in the obese range even though it's been dropping steadily.) But that's what challenge two is about! i've developed the good habits to lose weight and now I need to continue those by taking them to the next level. So I've been researching heavily for the last few days to prepare for this and I'm pretty excited. I would just love to have one of those really dramatic before and afters in just 12 weeks!
Hope everyone has a great low-carb day!

I'm inching closer to 199 but its getting harder and harder. For months I was losing 2 pounds or more a week but it's slowed to about a pound a week, maybe even slower. I'll get there soon, maybe next month if I'm diligent.

Tygris,
You are doing really good. Just remember that for years we have put weight on, and we cannot expect to get rid of it that fast...we have to be really patient. Whatt really keeps me motivated is this forum, and my friends that every time they see me they say I look great.
I know is going to take us a while to get our muscles to be in tone, our skin to regain elasticity and stay where it should, but hell yes is worth the sacrifice. I have not been happy for the past 16 years with my body. If I can be happy with the way I look and feel for the next 50 or 60 years...this WOE and WOF is really worth it.

Fri, Sep-12-03, 12:30
My official weigh in at my TOPS group is Thursday nights. I weighed in with a 1/2 lb loss last night and I was bummed about it. I know a loss is a loss, and much better than a gain; however, I have been losing more than that a week very steadily for the past few months. I just started working out at the gym on the nautilus equipment, and since muscle weighs more than fat, I am going to attribute my small loss to muscle gain. I hope next week is more.

huggs2ewe
Fri, Sep-12-03, 13:36
Zora,
I am slowed down too and really have not had a significant loss in 4 weeks. It is frustrating but I have every confidence that it will catch up. I think the difference is we are moving, we are exercising and you are right we are gaining muscle. I have read many of the forums and the story as they say is the same one. Sometimes we just get stalled until our bodies adjust again. I have tried to add some supplements LCA and Green Tea just to see if it will help. some reports have been good, others negative again all depending on the individual.
But I have adjusted my goal timeline to be almost a year where initally I was hoping much less than that. I have given myself a mini goal of being in onerland by Oct 13 (our thanksgiving) and at this rate unless I have a whoosh it will most likely not happen. I will not let it discourage me though and this forum helps. there are so many successess and challenges that people have met. I want to be one of those before and after sucessess. :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

You're right, it's probably muscle.... Hey...I'm a fellow TOPS member. My meetings are on Tuesday night.... I love TOPS!!!! I also see your start weight is about the same as mine, but you've lost a lot so far...good going. I'm pretty much starting over again... I gained at my TOPS meeting this week too, but I always do every 4th week....due to TOM...so I'm not worried about it. I joined curves today...yippee and I was surprised to find that they and their book recommend low carb, very simular to Atkins...although I haven't actually read the book yet.

Hi Losers!

Just de-lurking to say I've lost another 1/2" off my boobs, waist and hips. Scale still reads 221 but since I started Body for Life, I'm sure it's muscle. For real.

Don't get too upset over the scale and stop weighing every day girlfriend!!!! :nono: I know that my weight fluctuates so much during the week, and it can get depressing, so I try not to weigh every day. Did you see the article posted on the singles challenge thread about weight fluctuation? It is very informative! Thanks for the wonderful post in my journal. Luv ya!!!!

I am getting closer to that major milestone. This week does not seem like the best I've ever had but I'm hoping to hit 199 by the end of the month. My goal was to be 199 by the 22nd but somehow I think that isn't going to happen. I will check in though when it does happen.

Well, I only spent about five days under 200. Right now weighing in between 200.5 and 202.5, had gone as high as 203.5. Between a lot of cheating, much less exercise and now a brand new workout, I suppose this is to be expected.

So now I have to get the damn weight OFF again! <sigh>

I am stalled I have not yet weighed this week but I can tell I am in a stall. DH is gone next week so I will go back to induction and see if that won't help I wll not give in and I Will Not Cheat!!. If fact I find I am afraid to cheat. I have read many posts about people cheating..that this actually sacares me. I am committed to WOL and my body will make changes as it sees fit..if it takes longer than I think . That is o.k. I know I will get to my goal someday.

Hey Gang

Sorry I have been gone now for sooooo very long!!! THings were so busy before our vacation that I didn't sure what direction I was going. And then we went to Disney for 8 days and WOW how much fun was that!! MY daughter celebrated her 3rd birthday there. That was an action packed week and then I got a rotten head cold which put me out of for a week after vacation. It was all Icould do to go to work and take care of Riley. ButI am back and feelin better. Only 3 weeks till the marathon 10/12. I am excited nervous, excited, nervous and scared. I know I will finish just a matter of how long it will take. :) And then I leave for Hawaii 10/14!! So the next few weeks are going to be crazy. My weight was up 4lbs from vacation(which wasn't too bad) and now I think it's back to normal.

Hope everyone is having a great monday!!!!

heh Pattie,
I'm with you. I was thinking I was becoming obsessive because I am so "afraid" to "cheat". I'm really afraid I will loose control and loose this WOE. I was also in a bit of a stall and am really hoping that I am soon to over it. I have been hovering around 213 for 4 weeks now. I weighed today and I am down just under 211. Tomorrow is my official wt day for the Christmas Challenge so if I am still down then I will change my stats. I really hope that I can start on the downward slop now and get under the 210 and ever so much closer to onerland.

I'm still on Body for Life and seeing some great results already. Ya'll keep up the great work and I'll pop in next week.

Good morning everyone! Happy Monday!

Well, I have been very stressed lately and I cheated just a bit this weekend (emotional eating). I weighed myself this morning and only up a half pound. Whew! I feel totally back in control today. I have worked too darn hard to gain back any of the weight I've lost. I am determined to get to ONEderland by Dec. 31. I hope everyone has a wonderful week. Take care!

Onerland is on the horizon

I have finally dropped 2.5 after loosing and gaining the same frustrating 2 pounds for the last 4 weeks. I wasn't cheating or anything and although I was in no way changing the WOE I was getting really upset that I was being so good and not loosing. I was hoping for onerland by mid October that would be 11 lbs, not sure I can still manage that but I hopefully will be in the ball park. NEXT WEEK I hope to be under 210.

HOW DO YOU GUYS HANDLE A STALL: This is my first one and it is starting to get to me. I have not cheatted and I do not plan to. I keep my carbs at 20-25
fat around 65% and protien about 35%
But i have been adding almonds at the end of the to get my carbs up sometime. I have been hitting the pork rinds a lot latley..water min of 120 oz.. I think I need to cut out the nuts,R and probable cheese as well..go back to induction and see if that will help. What do you think? and helpful hints would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Pattie,

I wish there was a Magic Stall-Buster Wand we could wave. I was on one for nearly 6 weeks and the only way I finally got things moving again was to bump up my workouts. I was horribly discouraged when the scale would not budge. Wah. I decided to commit myself to a more rigorous fitness program and it's been going great (3 weeks). I've lost about 4 lbs since then, and gained a good bit of muscle.

I also had to nix a few of my favorites: LC chocolate (I went overboard) and I don't eat much cheese at all now. Not many nuts either. My best advice from personal experience is exercise. I am following Body for Life which you can read in my journal, or check out Natruska starting on p. 22 of her journal.

Hope you bust down that stall door soon!

Pattie,
Try laying off the pork rinds for awhile. I was doing the same thing eating a lot of pork rinds and was stalled for about 4 weeks. Last week I cut out the pork rinds and was down for the first time this week. I don't know if it's a coincidence, I also got back to my water. We'll see next week if I'm still down. I have kept up the nuts though I changed to Macadamia nuts and less peanuts.

:yay: I am happy today, because I am finally back in ketosis PURPLE. It took me 4 entire days!! Next time before I cheat, I will think twice about it, or more!!!

I have been waiting for two months for a mayor event this weekend. I am going to a BBQ and see all my Ex-collegues from Nestle. They know that I have been on a diet, but they do not know that I have already lost 9 kilograms since the last time they saw me (18 of july). Hope they notice my weight loss.

Othe thing that happend to me today, is that for curiosity, y grabed a long sleeve shirt that I had hanging all summer and tried it today...I could botton it!!! Plus, it wasn't tight at the bottom....I am soooooo happpy! :yay:

Guess what girls?
I found this online page where you enter your measurments and it calculates your LBM and BFC and keeps track of your measurements and has a graph where it shows your changes!

go to www.mybodycomp.com, open an account, measure yourself and there you go.

We can just post a link every friday so we can all see the changes in the measurements, BFC (Body Fat Composition). What do you think?

Take a look and enjoy!

Hi all, haven't posted in awhile, but just thought I would check in. I've been on medical leave from work since July 7th, had two surgeries so needless to say, my eating has gone down hill this summer. But, that is the past and this is the present, I'm back on track and my weight is still around 215, actually this morning the scales were 216. My goal is still to get below the 200 mark, and I'm hoping to do it in the next few months.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day! I am sore today from cleaning out the garage for 4 solid hours yesterday, lifting and getting boxes down. Otherwise, life is good. I lost 2 lbs over the weekend.

I've been reading about some people "stalling" with their weight loss. Please remember that according to the Atkins web site, a stall is when you have experienced no weight loss or loss of inches for at least four weeks. So be sure you are measuring yourself.

Here is a link to some information regarding stalls:

What Is A Plateau? (http://atkins.com/Archive/2001/12/15-725928.html)

Hope this helps. Happy Low Carbing!

A woman was terribly overweight, so her doctor put her on a diet.
"I want you to eat regularly for 2 days, then skip a day,
and repeat this procedure for 2 weeks. The next time I see you,
you'll have lost at least 5 pounds."

When the woman returned, she shocked the doctor by losing
nearly 20 pounds.

"Why, that's amazing!" the doctor said, "Did you follow my
instructions?"

The woman nodded. "I'll tell you though, I thought I was going to
drop dead that third day."

"From hunger, you mean?"

"No, from all of that jumping and skipping."
