I am starting my third week on Atkins. When I am rushed in the morning is it O.K. to use the Atkins milkshakes instead of eating? I have been doing this but read on another site that you have to watch some of these LC products because of sugar alcohols. Does that apply to Atkins products also? I have also been taking the one a day "carb smart" supplement along with several other supplements and my cravings have vanished and I am not suffering from leg cramps this time. Does anyone use this or is there a supplement that is better out there?

Hi Jan..
I avoid shakes and all of that LC/Atkins "frankenfood" like the plague.
Lots of people may disagree, but I have noticed that I lose way more if I just stick to the basics. I know several people who say
sugar alcohols create stalls/slowdowns, but then again keep in mind everyone is different.
My advice would be to avoid the stuff. But I also understand what its like to have a busy morning. =)

Hi Jan,
When I first started Atkins I did not use the shakes or bars. Now that I'm not6 really trying to lose weight, I will usually drink a shake in the mornings (as I, too am busy running around). Personally, I've had no issues with them but everybody is different.
As for supplement - sorry I don't take any so I'm no help here.
Best of luck to you.....

it all depends on you. you can try it and see how it works out for you. some people stall, some do not. if it doesn't hold you back, i wouldn't worry about it. you will want to keep an eye out for sugar alchohol sensativities though. it doesn't bother everyone, but it does make some people mildly to severely ill.

Using the shakes is better than not eating breakfast. Try not to make a habit of them, but they are fine when you run out of time. You could also fix some hard boiled eggs ahead of time and use them for a quick breakfast.
As you are not having any problems, you should stick with the supplement you are using.

I agree with sticking to the supplements you're currently taking since they seem to be working well for you - you're feeling great, no cramps, no cravings - why mess with it?
I've never had a shake so I don't know much about them. I thought I read that the Atkins shakes use sucralose (aka Splenda) and didn't have sugar alcohols?? Check the labels of different brands and see what they have to say about that.
An idea: try making some breakfast muffins and keeping them in your fridge/freezer for a quick breakfast. Just spray muffin tins with Pam and mix up eggs with chopped ham, cooked ground beef or sausage, chicken or bacon pieces and some grated cheddar and parsley and pour into the muffin tins and bake until the tops are slightly golden. Let them cool and then wrap with saran wrap or put in a container and all you have to do is zap one or two in the microwave and you can eat that on the run - cheap and fast and no weird ingredients

I use one bar a day as a treat while I am trying to lose. I have had days where I eat 3. They really keep me on track or else I want to cheat. But, it depends on your body.. they don't bother my wiehgt loss and others stall. Try one per day and see how it goes. If you are going to live LC you have to try out some one these products along the way or you will go crazy. At least that is how it goes for me. :) Hope this helped.

PS. All the bars are the same, so I get what is on sale for the week. Atkins cost the most around here and taste the worst to me. Just a note.

I have used the shakes and I will say that Atkins doesn't use as many Sugar Alcohols as the other guys. I don't stall using the Atkins products like I do using others. But it is always better to eat whole foods.

Thanks for all the help. I'm in my third week and I haven't weighed to see how much I have lost yet. I think I will wait until Sat. Maybe I will have lost some despite the "milkshakes and candy bars". I have to say that after getting all the sugar out of your system those little treats taste pretty darn good. Wish me luck on Sat. when I step on the scales.
