Well... I'm pregnant. I can't believe it. Anyone else due in the late summer/early fall this year ? I'd love to find some gals to share the experience with. I am 36 btw, so also looking for ladies that are 35+, but I welcome friends of any age to share this amazing time with. This is also my first pregnancy.
My EDD is Sep 25, 2006. I'm terrified and totally excited all at once. We just found out yesterday. I have a doc appt next Thursday. I'm nervous about the weight issue but not going to freak out over it hopefully. Pants are alreeady tight in the gut. Yikes !

Hey there,
I am 31 year old and due August 1. This will be baby number two for us. I am being really weight concious this time around. Last time I drank root beer and ate cheeseburgers....:)
Best of luck with your pregnany...it is a wild ride.

Hello!
I'm due Sep 21 with my second baby. My boy will be 2, March 8th. And I'm 32.
So far so good. 5th week.
And how are you feeling?
TilaBC
Fri, Jan-20-06, 13:38
I'm feeling okay other than bloated and really sore boobs..lol. I'm also pretty tired at night. I haven't had any morning sickness so to speak yet.
So... reading through some health/pregnancy books they recommend you eat quite a bit of breads etc.. Have you guys low carbed at all while pregnant ? Lots of grains and fruit ? Did you gain alot?
Thanks ! Tina

Carby things have tended to give me heartburn. You may crave a little more carbs, but keeping them reasonable is a great idea.
TilaBC
Fri, Jan-20-06, 14:33
I have no intention of eating a bunch of them. I have hardly eaten any grains since Sep 2002, and don't plan on adding them back in now to a major extent. I just don't want to jeopardize the health of the baby of course.

What I meant was, I think low-carbing is quite safe. I wouldn't go induction-low, but in my case that would slow my thyroid anyway - bad idea.
I haven't eaten much in the way of grains (occasional steel-cut oats or tortilla chips). I doubt there's much in grains that you can't get somewhere else.
Oh yeah, I craved cereal once or twice, so I got some and ate it. I figured, what the heck. :p

Luckily, I am not a sugar freak so that won't be an issue. I used to be a carb addict but have gotten that pretty much under control the last couple years. One of big biggest downfalls was alcohol which is not an option anymore so hopefully if I just continue to eat pretty much the way I do with maybe a little more leniency for what I really crave. A little more plain yogurt and fruit and I think I will be fine ! i already eat a lot of protein and veggies.
jessmama
Fri, Jan-20-06, 15:40
alcohol was my downfall too. of course, i am not drinking now but before i became pregnant again i loved to have a few drinks!!!
i would work out, eat low carb, and then have wine with that steak and salad...
in fact, i was pretty sure i'd lose weight while pregnant because i couldn't have a beer.
TilaBC
Fri, Jan-20-06, 16:53
Did you lose any just by cutting out the drinks ? Have you gained much yet this pregnancy ? I am totally obsessing about it but for the first time in my adult life I should just relax and not TRY to lose weight. Maintain and gain as little as possible yes, but not actively try to lose. What a concept !

no weight loss, but no significant gain. so far i have gained about three pounds and i am 12 weeks as of yesterday. i am suprised i have no lost weight because i have had morning (really afternoon) sickness since i was about five weeks along. i get sick atleast once a day. also, i am busy chasing a toddler around and 6th graders around at work too. go figure....i am glad to have you all to chat with!!!

Hi, I'm also 36 & found out that I'm pregant a couple of weeks ago. I've been pregant for about two months before I found out so I'm about 12 weeks too. This is my first also, which is probably why I didn't realize sooner that I'm pregant. I'm not sure of the due date yet. Thrusady I go see the DR again & then we should find out. But I'm guessing end of July or early August.
I'd love to keep in touch since we are all due around the same time.

yay ! Sounds like a good report on the baby and how exciting to hear the heart beat. I've only known for just under a week and was so freaked out the first few days I couldn't really enjoy it. Now it is all startingt o settle in and I'm starting to get really excited ! I have my first doctor appt on thursday and will let you guys know how it goes.
Oh and as far as being upset about the Seahawks winning, you are talking to a born and raised Seattle girl here so you won't get much sympathy from me ! granted I am not a big football fan (I'm into baseball) , it is still exciting for my hometown !

good luck with your appointment. seattle played a much better game than carolina did. i am a north carolinian and i usually root for them considering that the cowboys didn't make it this year. i follow football because my dh is an avid fan. i really like college basketball too.
i am doing well. i can't tell you how many coworkers have asked when i am going to have number two this week. i still haven't told them and am waiting for my final administrative review to do so...hopefully it will be soon. I am not wearing maternity clothes yet but am assuming that will happen soon. i guess in away i am in denial because i am so busy with our toddler.

Tina, it took me a few days to get excited about it too , I was very scared at first. Now I worry more for him then myself.

Hey everyone. I'm Alicia...I'm 37 and due Sept 16th. I have two dau's, Serena just turned 3 in Dec and Autumn turned 5 earlier this month. I have let myself consume carbs and its been glorious and horrible. Tomorrow is day 1 of resuming low carb but still ranging btwn 50-75 carbs. My doc said 1800 cals was fine. I told her I needed guidelines because I only know how to do 2 things...be fat and diet. No idea how to eat "normally"
Glad to be here.

Well everything here looks good. I think my only problem may be that I'm alittle older but so far nothing out of the ordinary.

I went to a preliminary doc appt yesterday with my regualr family doctor, but go back today to meet with the "baby doctor." I just moved to Canada from the States and it freaks me out that you don't see an actual obgyn unless you have complications here. It kind of freaks me out to be honest but I will just have to go with the flow. Too late to move back now ! Also , I will be so glad to have the year of Maternity leave you get in Canada compared to the few weeks you get in the states.
So far, no real symptoms other than fatigue and a general bloated feeling. My boobs were really sore last week but just a little sensitive now. I am looking forward to going to the doctor today to see what he has to say about the whole thing. They took 7 vials of blood yesterday !!
have a good weekend everyone !

I never heard of that unless they do that in the northern states. Here in TX we see OBGYN, regardless of complications, I met the Dr whose going to deliver my baby & she's the one that I'll be seeing the whole time. She also deals with complications as well, so I feel very confident with her. That would freak me out too. But I guess they have their reason's. That most be nice having a whole year for maternity leave unstead of a couple of months like we get here. I think it's better because if your breast feeding you should do it for a whole year. I don't get maternity leave because of the type of work that I do.
Y'all have a great weekend.

Hello all. Can i join in. I think im edd around 9/29 or so. I havent been to the dr yet. This was quite a surprise since i completely splurged eating during the holidays and i was 'suppose' to start my diet in Jan. but now im preggo! I lost a few lbs last year, then regained it for the holidays, and now i have gained like 6 lbs in this month alone!
How can i safely loose weight now? i only know how to do lc w/ 20g carbs (atkins induc). So can i go back on lc, but up the carbs a little to keep it safe?

Hey Butterball congratulations and welcome. Well my darlink bf sent me like 7 articles about how staying in ketosis is dangerous to the developing fetus....but....as long as you up your carbs to get you out of ketosis then there is nothing wrong with staying lower carb. I plan to stay around 75 carbs per day...during this time I'm eating more South Beachy instead of Atkins. My doctor knowing how important is to me not to thwart 2.5 years of dieting and losing 100lbs agreed that for now 1800 cals was fine to eat and she said staying low carb was great as well. So I'd say the maintenance plan for whatever program you're on should be fine.
Good luck!

Hi Butterball. I'd see a dr ASAP, so you can get started on the prenatel care. And talk to them about your weight concerns & what you should be eating. I personally believe a high carb diet is bad for the fetus. But you are going to need the good carbs like veggies & alittle fruits.

 to everyone here! I am Karen, 33 yrs old and pregnant with baby #3, due in late July (probably early August - I usually go to 41+ weeks). I have two boys - Anthony is 11 and Victor just turned 4. This is my first low-carb pregnancy.
My goal: Not to gain excessive weight and still have a nice healthy baby. In my first pregnancy, I ate junk of all kinds and gained 62 lb. With my second pregnant, I ate much better, but LOTS of carbs and gained 70 lb. It took a LONG time to get back into shape.
I am planning a homebirth with a midwife (last 2 were hospital births and do not want to do that again). She is all for my diet and has been very encouraging.
I look forward to getting to know all of you!

Lisa I'm so sorry that you're mom is being so insensitive to you. But I'm sure she's not saying anything different than I assume she usually does. I've never personally had to deal with such insensitive family members so I wonder how women who have been raised hearing this all the time cope short of an eating disorder. I just say try to find peace within yourself...you are a wonderful person, daughter, mother, friend and no one has a right to always try to make you feel bad about yourself. But that is the key word...they may try to make U feel bad usually to try to make themselves feel better about their own short comings.
Congrats on your pregnancy...I'm sure the kids are excited, huh?

Lisa, I'm so sorry about your mom being so insensitive. She probably doesn't mean to be, She's worried about you & dosen't quite know how to express herself, so it comes out sounding cold. Somepeople had been bringing up my weight gain too, yes it made me feel like loser ( in a bad way) I know they didn't mean any harm, but it hurt just the same. She's lucky you aren't bulimic or anorexia. But you need to see the DR as soon as possible, you may not even gain but the baby weight who knows & don't forget to bring up your concerns to the DR about your weight.
Sophotia, I'm feeling tired, belly's been upset & I often feel like I've pulled a muscle in my stomach. My legs get that tired achy feeling too.

I think I have finally stopped this horrible morning/afternoon sickness. I have not gotten sick for two days!!! I hated that seasick feeling that overwhelmed me. I did not experience that at all with my little boy. I have been craving sweets lately and because of the sick feeling have eaten a lot of toast and dry carb stuff.
I now have a cold and am sneezing non stop. I have been so short with my students this week. They have been distracted because the maintenance workers have been fixing this nasty leaking pipe in my classroom. It was horrible!! To manage them and deal with the mess too. Needless to say, I snapped a few times and said "Shut your mouths!"
Other than that stuff everything is going well. My little boy is really talking up a storm now and when I spelled "ocean" to my DH my boy said OCEAN! He loves to go to the beach and we take him on Saturdays. I guess I know what I will be doing all summer off until number two arrives. My next ultrasound is Valentines Day.

I'm also tired, and have had a cold for more than 3 weeks now. I have minor cramps in my belly and the bad dreams started again. I don't know if you have it, but I have some nightmares. Like last night I dreamt I was bleeding! Terrible!
And one more thing, when I get hungry now, I have to eat right that second or I'll die! The same experience as the last pregnancy.
By the way, I have the next doctor's visit on Valentine's Day as well, probably with ultrasound. :)

And girlllll and speaking of hunger...I feel like I will start gnawing on the closest thing or person to me if I don't eat as soon as that hunger sets in. Lisa,
So sorry about your MOm being insensitive like that. I'm sure she means well, but it sure doesn't come across that way. maybe you should tell her you are pregnant ? Then she will know why you aren't trying to actively lose weight right now ??
As far as symptoms go.. I feel ok for th emost part. Have been super tired and sleeping like a rock which amazing for me as I usually have terrible insomnia. I have been constipated but that is pretty normal for me as well. Yesterday, i was queasy and almost feverish and left work early but thats really the first time that has happened. Feel a little bloated but not too bad. I actually lost a couple pounds this week. We used to be pretty big "social drinkers" going to the pub for Hockey games or whatever a couple times a week etc.. Now that I have cut that out I'm sure it makes a big diff in calorie consumption.
Going to the doctor tomorrow morning. It is my first official appt. I went twice last week, but one was my regular family doc who referred me to the abby docot and the baby doctor one was more of just a get aquainted appointment.

Is that I'm getting hairy. I used to have to shave once a week & only the bottom 1/2 of my legs & now I have to shave a couple of times aweek. Plus I have to shave the top part at least once a week. And it seems my facial hair is getting darker. I always had a little but it was real light so it wasn't noticable. Now I'm thinking I have to do something like the facial hair bleach , I'm fair complected so it shouldn't be real noticable, but I was wondering if you can do that while you are pregant. Or should I just wait till the 1 st trimester is over. BTW I can't wax because my skin is already very oily so I don't want to make it worst.

I am feeling better and have stopped the toilet bowl staring contests. I just entered the 2nd trimester and they say it eases up from this point on...although it did not happen at all with my boy.

Hey Jess...I did feel like there was no way that I could feel for Serena (my youngest) as I did for Autumn...they are almost 2 years a part. I don't think my dad even thought he could love Serena as much himself....but just like the first...when she was born you just can't help yourself. Also the oldest starts to become so much more independent and less like the baby they were so now U have a new baby and can help the eldest assert their independence. I see also that I still treat Serena who just turned 3 in Dec (Autumn turned 5 in Jan) as my baby but I figured by the time this third one arrives Serena will be close to 4 and well ready to pass on the baby title to her newest sibling.
Attached is a pic...Serena is on the left & Autumn right by me. They were 2 and 4 at the time of pic.

Sophotia, I noticed that you are at your goal weight, how have you been maintaining? I maintained for 4 yrs. It was depressing when I first started gaining weight. BTW your kids are adorable.
I remember about a week before I found out I was pregant I had a dream that our whole town had flooded & I lost everything including my 3 cats & then got separted from my husband in the chaos. I woke up crying & it went on for about 10 mintues I couldn't stop. I thought that was really weird I've had bad dreams where I'd wake up with tears but not where I couldn't stop. I think I would have been pretty embarrast if my husband had woken up. BTW this happened when we were having all those wild brush fires around our state so I wasn't sure if that had something to do with it.

Well right before I found out I was pregnant I was hovering around 150. *sigh* As of today I am 168.5. Good Lord...it was hard to say that out loud. I just don't get a lot of sympathy in the real world...everyone telling me that I should be able to eat what I want and so forth. I'm like...hello folks...I am a professional overeater....I just don't play the part on TV....its like telling an alcoholic that they now have to drink but it's up to them to limit the amount. Unfortunately the fat girl in me is winning...well she was up until today. Today I am logging all my food into Fitday and keeping track of my carbs and calories. I've decided to try 50 carbs a day (I was avging well of 250 the past few weeks) I know 50 won't get me into ketosis. I have sticks so if I see a sign of ketosis I will eat a piece of fruit or something to quickly knock me out. And I'm gonna keep my calories around 1800. My doc said it was all okay ...she actually didn't want me to gain more than 15lbs and that was starting in at 161.5. So I've already gained 7 of that 15...my goal is no more than 20-25lbs. Wish me luck.

Alicia, I already gained 10 pounds since I've gotten pregant , that's one of the reason's I took the test oh & I was a week late at the time. Plus my appitie was enormous. That's why I've gained so fast. My metabolism had slowed down over a year ago I used to have a real high metabolism I can eat all day. I don't want to gain anymore then 20 to 25 pounds either I hope I'm not be unrealistic. I'm very short so I have to watch my weight anyways. Good luck.

My last pregnancy (9/2002-6/2003) I was 235 pre- preggo, and 260 at time of birth! I only wish i could be 260 again at the time of birth!!!!
AHHHH wishes - im such a screw up. How did i let myself gain so much lately!!!! grrrrr

I went to the doc this am and he said I should gain between 20-30 lbs. Ugh. I'm going to go out of my mind if I do that. I weighed in at exactly 200. My scale at home says I am 197 today. My goal is going to be not to go over 220 in my pregnancy.
The good news is that he said I seem to be very healthy. My bloodwork, blood pressure etc is all great. He doesn't forsee any complications. He said by the enxt appt we should be able to hear the heartbeat !

Lisa,
I'm not sure about how many carbs you need during pregnacy but I would check for ketosis & if it shows then eat some fruit, like Alicia is doing. I know this one woman who gained just the weight of the baby, she was over weight to begin with. But hey it happens I'm sure we all had asked our self that same question. So don't beat yourself up with this thought. Have you started any type of exersize yet.
Tila, hearing the heart beat is so exciting. I hope they always let me hear it, when ever I go in.

Lisa,
Pregancy yoga would be good. You can try short walks it's low impact. But by doing alittle at your own pace & then kicking it up a notch would help you to feel so much better & build some muscles & that will increase your metabolism. Just don't too much at one time, that's why lots of people get discouraged. You could try 15 min walk in the morning & then latter on in the day do another 15 min walk.
Good luck I'll be rooting for you.

uh discouraged, i know. Last Feb 05, i decided to join the gym w/ a personal trainer to keep me motivated. i just wanted to die, i felt physically just too heavy to some of those things, and i used to go back to the locker room hit the shower and cry! it was tough. i mean i thought tough was good, but at some point or some days its just too discouraging and then you feel like a quitter....

Lisa,
I always felt intimidated by gyms because on tv you always see all the hard bodies. And I feel like the out of shape loser & their stairing & giggling. Even though I have never really been that much overweight just chubby. It's still an awkward feeling, even at times when I was in good shape. I guess it's because I'm alittle on the shy side.
I've thought about Curves because it's all women & they only let a small amout of people in at a time. But it might be good for you because they let you do it at your own pace. You should look into it. And you go around the room for 30 mins. & you work on the machines for around 30 seconds & move to the next station. Most people you see in their are older & out of shape so I was intimidated by them because I felt like one of them.

Well I don't know about Curves either. I am a regular member of Curves...been going for close to 2 years now. But I didnt go for about a month and decided to start again after the Holidays and finding out I was pregnant. I went twice in one week and had some cramping...didnt associate it with Curves. Went again this past Weds and Thurs and not only cramped really bad Thurs when I came back to work (I work out at lunch) but also had a tinge of pink...not full fledged bleeding....so I figured since it was not a expercise my body was accustomed to (with the long absence) then perhaps it wasn't a good time to get back into it. I plan to just walk on my treadmill five times a week and walk outside anytime the weather is 45degrees or above.

I haven't gone to the gym for more than a month now. But I was planning to go back as soon as I feel better. I've had a cold for 3 weeks. I'm fed up with it. Constant coughing, runny nose... But I don't take any meds except vit C.
Anyway, I was planning to do smaller weights. Kind of, get my muscles to move a little, but not to get too tired. If I can't work out, I'm really scared I'm gonna blow up like a balloon.
I realized lately that I lived in denial. I thought and believed I "only" gained 37lbs in my last pregnancy. I looked in my papers recently to compare the starting weights and couldn't believe my eyes... I gained at least 45 lbs!!!!!!!!!!
I did have "PIH" by the end, that's why it ended with a CC. One of the symptoms was retaining lots of water. I was a gigantic sponge! Looked terrible.
I had to stay in the hospital for a week after giving birth, (because of my high pressure - another symptom) and when leaving I was around 25 lbs lighter!
I can't gain so much this time!

I had pre-e at 38 weeks with my son. It was so scary to labor forever only to have to have a emer. c-sec. I wanted to lose more weight before number two but oh well, that's life. I guess I get knocked up easily :) because we weren't even trying and were preventing.
i hated monitoring my bp numbers the hole time. i am still on a bp med and so far my numbers have been good. i am doing pretty good at maintaining weight. i am starting to feel a little uncomfortable in my normal jeans/pants so i might pull out some of my old preg. clothes. I kinda splurged on clothing last time so it is nice to get two go's of some of the items.
it sucked not drinking for the superbowl. atleast their were other pregos at the party we went too. kids too. still, i wanted a nice cold beer.

I want to join the gym and start exercising as well. I feel very fat this week. I'm so afraid to gain weight. I attach such awful mental torture to gaining weight. Especially triggered by hitting 200 again. My scale still shows under that, but the doctor scale was 200 exactly. I just can't relax about it. After eating low carb since 2002, Its so hard for me to eat carbs again, even in moderation. I am craving them though. Not sugar, but bread and crackers etc..
My husband and I have been fighting and I'm just so stressed : (
I am going home to Seattle this weekend to tell my family. They will be so excited. it will help me get more excited again. I want to be able to enjoy this pregnancy more.

I always weigh more on the Dr.'s scale. I think the last time I weighed 4 or 5 pounds but I was also wearing cowboy boots, sweater & blue jeans. But still I hate it after I had maintained for so long, now I'm back where I started.
I think being pregant makes you feel stressed, my husband asked me why I was being such a grouch. He says you should be happy.
Alicia, how was the ultra sound?
I'm getting less of that morning sickness but I'm still lazy & stomach is still getting cramps but I'm wondering if it's because I have a tilted uterus. I'll have to ask around.
Y'all have a great day.

Hey all just a quick word before I head to work. The appt yesterday went well...the ultrasound was amazing...just to see how big the baby grew in just 2 weeks. Baby measured 8 wks 4 days so Sept 15th is my official due date now. They finally gave me the danged Welcome Packet and was so disappointed to see how little seafood I can have during this time....I LOVE SEAFOOD :(
Now yesterday morning I weighed in at 166.5 (naked  ) Got to the doctor at 2p and full clothed (w/out shoes) weighed 165.5. When I got home I checked again (of course naked) and I was 164.5. So I'm sure I was retaining a lot of water weight this past week or so. I stopeed by the second hand maternity store and bought a couple of tops.
I hope everyone else is doing well

Arghh!!! I'm so obsessed with food! Carbs or no carbs, I know I eat too much. I constantly think about food. Even if it's "Ok, I won't eat for an hour... not yet... not yet.... ok, now!"
I gained 4 lbs for the last 3 weeks! And I can't accept it! I have 31 weeks to go, so what, I'll gain 40 lbs more?!!!!
I know it's not worth to stress out about it... The point is, though.... I look good now, but I remember too well how horrible I looked in my previous pregnancy.
Some girls look so attractive, even pregnant. Just the belly, slim arms, thin/normal face, sexy legs.
I'm afraid I'll grow big butt, fat face, and fat all around the waist again!
The worst thing is, that you'd think I'm desperate enough to eat well... N  o...

Peri = perintologist (high risk pregnancy expert because I had pre-e at 38 weeks last time). I think the heart rate at 9 weeks was in the 170's. I think I can feel fluttering with number two. Yes I will have my third ultrasound March 9th (13 weeks) with a specialist...so he can do some sort of test or another...I'm 37 so at higher risk for genetic probs. I'm not letting them do the amnio or anything else that increase the chance of miscarriage. I'm only up for all the ultrasounds cause I want to see the baby as many times as I can!! We decided we're gonna pay to get the 3D-4D ultrasound imagining btwn 27-31 weeks. This will officially be the last baby so I want to indulge in all the unnecessary but cute & adorable bells and whistles.

I'll have the special genetic ultsasound sometime between 7 and 21 Mar (12 -14 weeks). The doctor didn't suggest (I'm 32) but I wanted it. I'm planning a 3D at 20 weeks.
I just got back from the gym. I took it really easy, after 6 weeks break and being pregnant. I didn't even let myself get sweaty. So far I feel ok, a little tired. I only did a rowing machine, legs and arms. Skipped the abs exercises except for one that's really easy.

I just found out that my office is permanently closing June 30. I'm so bummed out ! I have a great job and I just transitioned intoa work at home position which would have been perfect for after the baby comes. This just sucks !
I am in Canada and will still qualify for my Mat leave, but I will have to start it much sooner than anticipated. The good news is I will now have the summer off, but I will be huge and pregnant so it's not like I can really enjoy it. The really bad news is no job to go back to. *sigh* Why does it have to be so hard !!!
Otherwise I am doing pretty good. Still no morning sickness to speak of. I have been SOOOOOOOOOOO tired though. Can barely keep my head up sometimes. And lazy ! So lazy. Feel like a fat slug. I have been eating way too much bread too. It just sounds so good lately. I'm so sorry about your office closing.
The place I was working at recently closed too. I just took some time off to relax & to think about what I'm going to do I thought about going back to retail but the more I thought about I'm better off just stick with my feild that I have been in for a while. it's much more flexible plus I can take off anytime I need to pretty much. I don't have to be on my feet all day either the only bad thing is no maternity leave for us.
That's great no morning sickness. I've been eating a little bit of bread every day. I think this is a very stressful time in our lives. You just have to try to relax & go with the flow.

I just started my 2 nd trimester. Wahoo, made it through the criticle part & didn't throw up once during those 3 months.
I went to the Reproductive specialist for my prescreening & counceling for high risk pregancy yesterday. So far it's looking good but I should get more results at the end of the week. The baby is about 3 inches & weighs about 2 ounces. They took some blood & did another sonogram to measure the neck. It was normal. This little guy was very active he kept waving his hands & kicking his feet. It was hard to get a clear photo because of all the movement. We did get a good one of his foot. I didn't want them to stop the ultra sound. My next ultra sound will be done in 6 weeks then we should find out the sex of the baby.
Have a great day all.

I haven' t thrown up at all either. I'm glad but curious about it. My Mom and sister both had MS free pregnancies so maybe I will be spared ! I've been eating alot of bread though. Low carb bread and wasa crackers but still. Last night we went to dinner at our fave place in town and I ordered a big salad with grilled chicken ranch dressing on it right ? So they were really behind and it took almost an hour to get our meals out (long story) but when they finally brought it out, they had put all this honey mustard dressing on it. I don't like honey mustard at all (mainly due to the sugar) but didn't want to wait so just asked him to bring me some ranch and I'd eat around it. Well to make a long story short he felt bad about the mix up and brought us this big piece of caramel chocolate pecan cheescake out at the end on the house. I'm not even a sugar person in general but DH and I split it and I felt like crap afterwards. I am totally not used to eating that kind of thing.
Well, happy friday everyone ! It's my Sunday (wah !) as I work Sat-Tue (4 ten's). Take Care !

Alicia,
I wonder if boy babies are more active then girl babies. I heard that girl babies have faster heart beats per min. IMy baby was real active during the sonogram too. That's so exciting to watch them , I almost felt like telling the tech I'll just stay here awhile you go on about your business. She'd probably tell me get out now.
Jessmama, I remember those days now I'm really hoping for a boy. I still have 4 weeks till I find out.
Dane, congrats on your pregancy too.
Holly , when do you see your Doc?
Well I can tell I've gain some weight I have never seen my belly so big before. I'm alittle scared of the scale at the moment I've never weighted this much before & I'm gaining pretty fast. I'm not exersizing as much as I should last week I was sick with a cold & this week I have been busy running around shopping & trying to get my finances in order. I'm going to refinance the house & maybe consolidated my credit card dept. I'm alittle nervous about it because I used them so much. But I'd rather have 1 bill w/ lower interest rate then 10 with high rate. Or see how many they'll let me put on there.
Have a great day, it looking like an another gorgeous day here.

I had my ultrasound today, we saw the little baby and the heartbeat. The baby measured 6 weeks 2 days I had come up with 6 weeks 4 days so right on target adn the ehart rate was 119bpm. How exciting!
My dr. also prescribed progesterone for me so I go to fill the perscription and it was $374.99 OMG geeze louise. I will get it but darn.
Josiemk
Fri, Mar-10-06, 11:51
Wow that some expensive prescription, do you have insurance? BTW why do you need the progesterone?
TilaBC
Sat, Mar-11-06, 11:06
I too was wondering why you need the progesterone.
Well, I weighed myself this morning and the silly scale says I still weigh 198. There is just no way. I wish. I have been eating completely non low carb (bread etc) and even had a freakin ice cream bar and McDonalds in the last week. I haven't eaten stuff like that since pre atkins (2002). Last time I weighed in at the doctor I was 92 kg which is about 202 and I had gained less than a lb in the month prior to the weigh in accoring to doctor scale weight. At the doctor I weigh more because of the clothes, shoes etc.. so I like to take my home scale wight..lol.
Anyway, I go back to the doctor on the 15th and then I guess I will know for sure what is going on. I hate gaining weight even if I am pregnant. Sorry.

Hey Tila, I hear ya. I know gaining some weight is important, and I wouldn't actively diet, but still. Last time I dreaded going to get weighed, because I always got a lecture (gained too much in the first few months). I haven't had my first visit yet, but I plan to carb up the night before so the recorded weight will be artificially inflated, heh heh.
Forgive me for not having read the whole thread, but did you have any morning sickness?
TilaBC
Sun, Mar-12-06, 12:26
I have had (knock on wood) zero morning sickness and I am almost 12 weeks. The only major symptom I have had is total complete exhaustion from day one and for the first fe weeks my boobs were so sore I could barely wear clothes..lol
What about you ?

Cool! This is my 4th pregnancy, and I had horrible sickness with the first 3. So far I've felt good....but it's still early. I hope I didn't just jinx myself, lol!
The only symptom I have is fatigue, and not even too bad. I wonder if the fact I'm still nursing has helped my body adjust to the pregnancy hormones better? Don't know, but I'll take it!
At 12 weeks, I'd say you're past the morning sickness stage! Lucky you! :)

i got a little sunburnt this weekend from working in the yard. i forgot that pregnancy makes one more suseptible to burning. It felt good nonetheless. It's weird how a little sunshine can make you feel wonderful. It is supposed to be 80 here today and I have to work until 5:30! I finally stopped getting sick. Lately I have been feeling great. I am still a bit of a bit** though when I get hungry or tired. We can't think of a single name for our next boy. It's a big blank slate.

I also hate gaining weight. I'm hating my body right now matter of fact, but I have to admit I'm liking my boobs for a change lol. I look like I have a beer gut. But yesterday I was feeling it I think it was because I was so tired & I didn't eat enough for breakfast it went away after I ate lunch. But I'm still sleeping alot & very tired. I'm going to see if the Doc can change my prenatel vitamins.

I do have health insurance, but progesterone isnt covered, I am taking the progesterone becuase I have had a lot of hormone induced miscarriages due to my PCOS. So taking the progesterone suppositories helps my body produce enough of the hormone.

Ok just got my results from the NT scan (nuchal translucency scan) and my odds for having a down syndrome baby based on my age didnt decrease based on the test my odds are 1:132 and for my age they are 1:133..he said so many numbers I'm not sure I have everything correct. He said I could have the amnio after 15 weeks and a level II ultrasound at 18 weeks. *sigh* sheesh...I hate worrying. Anyone good with math? Can you figure out my % chances of having a healthy baby based on that 1:132 crappola? I'm trying to stay positive but of course now I will be worrying. I've been trying to read articles and message boards from other older moms who's results came out less than positive...and most of the women went out to have normal babies despite the NT results. Okay I'm rambling. Talk to U all later.
Josiemk
Tue, Mar-14-06, 16:38
Alicia,
I personally wouldn't do the amnio, because of the risk it can cause. I'd go for the level 11 ultra sound. I'm not good with math but I believe your chances for having a baby w/ Down syndrom are 1 out of 133. But y'all correct me if I'm wronge.
mmgab
Wed, Mar-15-06, 01:46
The norm for NT is up to 2,5 mm (I tried to convert to inches, and it's around 0,1 inch) What was your baby's, Alicia? Mine had 1,8mm.
Before you get amnio, there are some special blood tests that are non-invasive. I have no idea if the names I know are international, but they are called: test PAPPA (between 10 - 14w), triple test ( 17 - 20w), or sth like that.
I know it's easy to say: don't worry... But the chances there's sth wrong are so small!

This site explains the whole NT test and risk/odds pretty well.
http://www.babycentre.co.uk/refcap/544491.html
Yeah, basically 1:132 means out of 132 women in that risk range, 1 will have a Down's baby. According to the site, women who are 1:300 or lower (as in 1:132) will be offered CVS and/or an amnio test to further rule out Down's.
With my last baby, I forget the NT value, but it put me in a lower risk category so I didn't have to do further testing. We'll see if I get lucky this time.
My mother had to do amnios (was basically not given an option to decline) with kids #4 and #5, at maternal age of 38 and 40. No complications, perfect children. :)
I know it's easy to say: don't worry... But the chances there's sth wrong are so small! Ditto this!

HollyAyott
Wed, Mar-15-06, 08:29
A level II u/s is just a "targeted" ultrasound. In a level II scan the sonologist will try to look for and assess any abnormality that is present in the fetus. Its not really that huge a deal.
I figured out your percentage rate as having a perfectly healthy baby as 99.39% ao almost 100%!

My little one measured 1.4mm which is in normal range...my blood work is what didn't fair as well in the testing.
I've had a level II ultrasound done before with my last daughter but I didnt know if with the new technology if they used the 3D imaging now during the Level II.

I'm sure the baby will come out normal. I don't know about the new 3D Ultra sounds I think it's more advance , it looks like you can actually see the baby more colored not just black & white like the regualr ultra sounds.
Jessmama,
That's great to get all you appointments set already. I think your doing good with the weight gain as well. I've already gained 15 pounds & I also have to be careful I don't gain to much more.
Tila,
I'm not sure how to post a pic in a message. But I think you have to do the advance posting , you may want to ask under the thread for technocol support. They can explain it for you.
So is anyone one eles showing yet? Someone at our church asked my MIL if I was pregant. And when I told the girl who does my hair she said she thought I was but didn't want to say anything. So I'm guessing I'm offically showing.I thought it was kind of early though. I did find a store in Selma, that had cute maternity clothes at a decent price. It's called Motherhood Maternity y'all should check them out. Their alot cheaper then Pea in a Pod, that's the first place I had went to & their expensive. I agree that girls clothes are 300% nicer than boys. My younger son is only 4 and already his clothes just look like miniature men's clothes, he's outgrown the really cute stuff.
I am 5 feet 7 inches, but my torso is long. I had a 10-1/2 lb baby in there cooking last time and never measured "large" or anything. I have gained 15-20 lb so far (so I'm 10 lb under what I gained at this point the last 2 times, and I've been more active too)

Congrats on the Girl, Karen!! I also have 2 boys, and am crossing my fingers for a girl. :) Loved your belly pics, and the second one made me laugh......so round!
I had my first appt. yesterday, and was relieved to have confirmation; I am indeed 7 weeks pregnant. I was a bit worried, because I haven't had ANY sickness, and I was deathly ill with the other 2 kids. So,
My OB did an ultrasound, and we got to see the heart beating. We discussed a scheduled c-section, and this one will most likely be done under a general anesthetic to avoid the hypotonic complications I experienced last time.
My OB also said my weightlifting is no problem; I can continue to do anything that feels good, including any abwork.
All in all, a great visit!
Tila, so far I haven't had any cravings for anything. As a matter of fact, no food interests me (except I have been hankering Coca-Cola, stuff I rarely drink, huh). I'm trying to make sure I get good stuff in, though, like sweet potatoes, oats.

My belly doesn't look that good either, it looked ok before but when I had gall bladder surgery they removed the gall bladder from my belly button when my stomach is flat it looks fine but now that it's gotten round it looks funny like a balloon when someone sticks their finger into it.
I'm having sugar cravings too but I been limiting the amount that I eat. But I'm not craving grains but I have been craving cheese fries & hot fries. I have been eat a slice of bread , it's that Nature's Own their lower in carbs then alot of other breads when I have a sandwich I use 1 instead of 2 slices. I know it sounds like I'm getting alot of carbs, but I'm only going to be eating like this for a short while.

When I do eat my grains, I am still eating low carb bread or tortillas, just quite a bit more than pre-pregnancy. I am also eating more fruit and dairy (soy milk, yogurt). I never was a sugar hound so that isn't an issue for me then or now. My only real "sins" so to speak have been having real pizza a couple times since finding out I was pg. I just feel like I am eating more and thinking more about food which bothers me.
As of my last check up threee weeks ago, I had only gained about a pound. I bet I have put on 5 in the last few weeks. I just feel bigger. I have another appt this Friday so I will find out. In the last 6 months prior to getting pregnant I had put on 5 or so and in the last two years prior to that I had put on almost 10 so I am 15 (probably 20 now) from my lowest of 185 which I hate. My goal is to stay under 100kg which is 220 lbs. I was 92kg last weigh in.

Oh I forgot I have been eating more friut too. And I'll have two slices of thin & crispy pizza some times. I know I constantly think about food too. I used to have a high metabolism so I normally eat constantly but a little at a time.
I'm 25 pounds above my goal weight(110). I gained 10 last year & since being pregnant I've gained another 15 pounds which I know isn't good but I think part of it's because I never threw up. And I don't get much exersize , I've become so lazy recently. I'm hoping that I don't gain that much more but I still have 5 months to go.

This is all anecdotal of course, but in our case, the babies have taken after me. DH is Ukrainian and was small at full term, just a little over 6 lb. I am 100% German descent and was 9 lb 7 oz at birth. My boys were 8 lb 14 oz (38 weeks) and 10 lb 9 oz (41+ weeks). Actually, neither of them were that hard to deliver - my midwive says I have an "ample pelvis" LOL
Don't be afraid of large babies anyhow. It is very rare that your body will grow one that you can't deliver (especially if you're doing your best to avoid the refined sugars and junk). I am curious as to how large this one will be since I'm trying to eat better :)

Hey guys..
Just got back from a doctors appt. Unbelievably enough I haven't gained any weight to speak of at 14 weeks. I was shocked. The doctor even questioned it. Now to be fair I must say I had put on weight before I got pregnant so I am no where close to being happy with my weight (92kg) but I am so happy I haven't gained a bunch. I sure feel like it and none of my regular jeans fit anymore but I must just be shifting around. I most defenetly feel like I have gained weight. He just wanted to make sure I wasn't dieting, which I am *obviously* not..lol. Not even close.

I live in Eastern PA, home of the "Pennsylvania Dutch" (actually German descent LOL). Yes, I have curvy hips, as do most of the women in my family. In fact, my great-grandmother was a 10 lb baby, delivered at home. That was extremely rare in 1899!
However, don't sweat it! My midwife says I should be able to deliver an 11 or 12 lb baby no problem. I don't anticipate this one being that big - I'm hoping the lack of sugar will help this!

Wow your family has some big babies. That's like two small babies coming out at the same time. But I guess it helps if you have the right body type for it. I think mine will be small because I had narrow hips but I can tell they gotten wider recently.

Hi Ladies - I was wondering if I could join you all.
I just found out I am pg with #6. :-) I am due the beginning of Dec. but will have the baby in Nov because I will have a scheduled c/s. I have 4 boys and 1 girl right now...i am secretly hoping for another girl but another boy would be fine too.
As for Lc. I started LC Feb 2005. I have lost 108 lbs since then. I was trying to get lower but that really doesn't matter now and I am not upset about it at all. I just don't want to gain too much in the pregnancy. Esp. since my brother who is 40 had a heart attack last week...so now I am worried about it. y'know. Anyway, I could use a group to chat with about food and trying to keep the weight gain lower (most of the time I have gained 40-60 lbs!) this time.
Thanks all

Janel,
Of course you can join us. Congrats on the pregnancy & losing 108 pounds. That's a big accomplishment.
Hey all, I just got back from the Doc's office everything is looking good. It was so good to hear the heart beat. I was kind of missing the little fella, even though I'm showing more each day. I gained some weight this time.

Welcome Janel. I lost 100lbs before this pregnancy. I was very scared of regaining my weight and with few months of a momentary lapse of consiousness I did regain about 20lbs. But I'm watching what I'm eating now and just trying to maintain at this weight until its time to gain the rest of my baby weight which I'm trying to allow myself another 15lbs. But even if I gain a little more I know I'm trying and eating a lot healthier than I did my last 2 pregnancies. :)

Thanks for the welcome all. :) My other kiddos are ds 11, ds 9, ds 6, ds 4, dd 23 mo. They are all pretty much 2 1/2 yrs apart....just happened that way. We basically had to try for each of them..not one was a surprise. Life is busy with them all but it is worth it. We are moving this summer (building a new home) so that is a pretty big chore right now..our home is on the market and trying to keep it clean with a family this size is a full time job!

Janel,
How are you managing? This is my 1 st kid , & I wonder how do parents do it, it seems like their isn't enough hours in 1 day. Then when I'm not working it seems I'm too tired to do much. We recently build our house too, it's now 2 years old. I was always over there every day but then again I was staying next door w/ my in laws at the time.

Saw the doc today. Everything is fine. But since I've been having some minor cramping lately , she gave me some meds for that. Hopefully the meds will help 'cause I was planning to work till end of May at least, and she said if I don't feel better I should consider staying at home. I'm told to lay in bed as long and as often as I can.

What she senses for you
The day you deliver, outside will be cloudy. Your baby will arrive in the early evening.
After a labor lasting approximately 5 hours, your child, a girl, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 6 pounds, 5 ounces, and will be 21-1/2 inches long. This child will have dark brown eyes and some blond hair.
But there is more. I sense that there are some ideas and emotions you cannot quite put a finger on.

After a labor lasting approximately 4 hours, your child, a girl, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 6 pounds, 8 ounces, and will be 21 inches long. This child will have light brown eyes and be completely bald.
The wee hour thing is very possible - for some reason we have a track record of that: my mom, me, my older daughter...
4 hours of labour is pretty good, let's see if that pans out!
The size... for her to be that size she'd have to be born early, like in a couple of weeks - hopefully that won't be the case!
Light brown eyes could be, beacuse of my husband - it would be funny if she was bald though because all babies in the family were born with lots of hair!

Thank you everyone for the kind words. I went to the dr. for a blood test today but I am pretty sure. What I am not sure of now is what to expect. I have been reading that a m/c can mess up your cycle and you should wait to ttc. I just don't know what to do. We might just sit out a cycle or two but who knows. Plus we might get a hospital indemnity plan to help offset the cost of the baby (when we get pg again)...but they have 10 mo. waiting period. We'll see.
Thanks again

34 weeks today :)
Next Thursday Spring breaks starts here, so I'll have more time and energy to get the last preparations done in the house - I'm in decluttering/organizing mood but I can only get stuff done if I can do it uninterrupted and virtually undisturbed, which isns't likely during the weeks, when I have to go bring dd to school, come back home, then pick her up later, do homework, etc. At least during vacation time I can schedule days when I do stuff with her and days when she does stuff with her friends and I do stuff in the house :)
My belly is getting rounder and rounder... 2 weeks to the end of the 8th month!

I was sent this article from Pregnancy Without Pounds about weight loss during pregnancy:
Subject : Weight Loss DURING Pregnancy?
| | | Inbox
Hi Alicia,
Happy Monday!
Today I want to address a really HOT topic in the pregnancy world - weight loss DURING pregnancy!
I literally get TONS of emails from overweight women all around the world wondering whether they can actually LOSE weight DURING their pregnancy.
I'm sure you're saying, "No way! Pregnancy is not the time to lose weight", and you're totally right.
However...
IF, AND ONLY IF, YOU WERE OVERWEIGHT BEFORE YOUR PREGNANCY (AND I DON'T JUST MEAN FEELING "FAT"!), THEN IT IS POSSIBLE FOR YOU TO ONLY GAIN A MINIMAL AMOUNT OF WEIGHT DURING YOUR PREGNANCY AND MAYBE EVEN LOSE A LITTLE!!!
Think about it...
In today's day, how many articles do you read about the GROWING number of people who are GROWING around the middle and becoming obese - lots, right?
Unfortunately more and more of us are choosing the wrong kinds of food and becoming increasingly sedentary causing us to pile on the extra pounds.
So, for those women who choose to TURN OVER A NEW LEAF during pregnancy - that means start eating much healthier food, exercising regularly and keeping very active - well, yes, they CAN lose weight DURING their pregnancy.
Remember, excess weight or body FAT is really just energy waiting to be used - one pound of fat equals a whole 3,500 calories to be exact!
So by cleaning up your diet (i.e. cutting out all the fat and sugar of "unhealthy eating") and adding lots of whole grains, vegetables and good quality protein - you'll start to burn your own (not your baby's!) fat stores.
Add in some exercise and lots of activity and you'll lose even more of your FAT and gain ONLY baby-related weight (roughly 30 pounds worth!).
Before I started my "pregnancy" research, I always wondered WHY some women only gained a few pounds while others gained a LOT more.
Well, if you've read my book then you ALREADY know that the answer lies in your pre-pregnancy body weight category. For example, women who were underweight pre-pregnancy should put on MORE weight than women who started off their pregnancy overweight or normal weight.
To summarize:
Because this is a SENSITIVE topic - I really want to ensure that my message is BEING CONVEYED and INTERPRETED correctly. So, here are my summary points:
- Even though you may be losing body fat, it is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL that your baby is gaining weight and thriving - make sure to visit your doctor or health care provider regularly to ensure that everything is okay;
- Even though I'm talking about minimal weight gain, this DOES NOT mean DIETING or OVER-EXERCISING! Now that you're eating for two, you MUST give both you and your baby the right amount of food (an extra 300 calories worth!) and rest (at least 8 hours a night). NEVER restrict calories or push yourself to exhaustion; and
- This weight loss/maintenance during pregnancy is NOT for everyone. This ONLY applies to women who were OVERWEIGHT/OBESE pre-pregnancy, not for average or underweight women who just FEEL FAT!
Bottom line is whatever your weight category, you CAN look great both during pregnancy and beyond.
To learn LOTS more about pregnancy weight gain (including how much you SHOULD gain each month and WHERE you'll put it on), plus how to work with your Body Type (and not against it!), read my kit at...

Tila you don't have to have amnio, but that's up to you. Some people are glad they did, but to me it didn't matter. I just had more blood work done yesterday to check for Spinal bifida.

I'm feeling ok, just my pelvis and sacrum hurt if I sit for too long. But other than that, I'm good. Of course, like most women at their 8th month, I don't sleep very well, so get cranky unless I can catch a nap in the afternoon...

Yeah, it's so hard to believe it's already 18 weeks. I think I was on week 6 when I found out which was around early January. I'm almost 1/2 there.
Elisa, That last month scares me. I live about 45 mins. from the hospital I plan on having her at. I'm scared I'm going to be telling my husband to take me to hosiptal everyday due to false labor. Or I might have the baby in the truck.
The weather here has been really warm in the mid 90's earler this week I driving past the bank & it said it was 99. No wonder why it's been so hot. It seems the years are just getting hotter.Last year we spent the whole summer in the 100's & parts of the fall.

Another interesting fact:
Week 16: Gender Bender
True or false: A fetal heart rate of fewer than 140 beats per minute means you're having a boy, while a heart rate of more than 140 beats per minute means you're having a girl. It's a notion that's been making the obstetrical rounds forever and the truth is…it's false. Sorry, but while it sounds more plausible (and more grounded in medical fact), this one is about as reliable as holding a ring on a string over your belly and predicting the baby's gender based on which way the ring turns. (If you buy that, there's a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you.) There are as many of these baby-gender-determining techniques around as there are old wives to tell about them (and practice them at family gatherings). Sure, they're fun to talk about, but all of them share just one truth: They're correct in predicting gender 50 percent of the time. If you'd like better odds than that (the kind you can base your nursery paint colors on), ask at your ultrasound.
Josiemk
Wed, Apr-05-06, 08:22
Alicia funny that you posted that because everyones been saying it's a boy because you are carrying high. And the one who said it's a girl for the same reason was the one who I didn't take seriuosly because I just met her & she's young. Your right go ask the ultrasound.

Oh, don't worry, first deliveries don't usually go that fast. I was also nervous about that but I REALLY shoulnd't have been... enough said
This time I was more worried about my waters breaking while I was on my way somewhere or back from somewhere... like dd's school! But I found out that only about 15% of labors start that way. Hopefully I'm part of the other 75% ;)
Regarding the gender thing, in Italy they say that a round belly means it's girl, an oval belly measn it's a boy. Round bellies for me both pregnancies, 2 girls... maybe I'm to blame for this old wive's tale ;) :D

Seriously, I could've driven across the country to the hospital when in labor with my first son, it just dragged. This time, I don't have to worry about driving anywhere and it is a GOOD feeling (doing homebirth for #3).
My waters have not yet broken naturally, both times with my sons the doc broke them. This time I am letting nature take its course, wonder when they will break?
Besides, if you see a huge pregnant woman walking around with wet pants, I'm sure you would just assume her water broke and try to help her - so I don't sweat it :)

My dh asked the same thing, if it freaked me out. I told him no because I've been waiting for it. But if it was a hard kick then it may have surprised me. But haven't felt any movements since that one on Monday morning, I'm not sure if that's normal or what yesterday I was busy running errands so I was busy all day. Since gas went up so high & I'm not working I just take 1 trip a week into the city to do all my errands, so I may have been too busy & tired to notice anything.

When you move around a lot the baby is lulled to sleep - you are more likely to notice movement if you lie still in the same position for a while. It's still early though, so the movements may be happening but they are just not that noticeable.

Congratulations Sophita!!! I would like to have a little girl someday. My husband prefers boys but I think we should try to have a girl someday because he never had a sister.
I have gained 14 pounds so far! I am not too excited about that but atleast I still weigh less than I did a year ago at this time while NOT pregnant. I am kicking myself in the a&& for not exercising while nursing. I lost weight but gained it back after I quit nursing. I won't do that again. I am 25 weeks today!

Alicia,
Congrats on the little girl. It seems a lot of little baby girls this year.
Jessmama, Congrats on only gaining 14 pounds so far. That's really good I've gained almost 25 & I'm 20 weeks, this the most I ever weighed my entire life & I still have a ways to go.
I haven't been exersizing , but I have been doing more house work, it seems to wear me out plus it's been making my butt hurt. I can't do as much at one time so I've been taking short breaks.

Where are you ladies? I hear crickets up in here. :)
So I was wondering...my sister and I are now experiencing the heartburn pretty bad...she's due 2 weeks before me. My two previous pregnancies I had to take prescription strength acid reflux medicine and I so want to avoid it because I think it lead to a condition I had in my second pregnancy called cholestasis of pregnancy where I had liver problems and had to deliver Serena at 37 weeks (I personally think I got the condition as a side effect of the acid reflux meds)
How is everyone else handling their heartburn?

This is #6 for me...4 boys 1 girl so far.
Sophotia - with my kiddos I always get it pretty bad. I always use the berry flavored tums. I just keep popping them.

Welcome back Janel, that is GREAT news !! I am so happy for you !!
As far as heartburn, I get in now and then but nothing drastic. I am feeling pretty good these days. BIG but good. I go back to the doctor on May 4th for my next check up, amnio results, and an ultrasound so that will be a big day. I had amnio April 10th and they said no news is good news. Basically the way they pu it was that results take 2-3 weeks but if there was a problem they would let me know right away. Its not been over two weeks so I'm hoping all is well.
I go back and forth on thinking I know what the sex will be. I thought for sure a boy, then girl..now I jjust don't know ! A big part of me is hoping for a boy just for something different as both our families are over run with girls, but a little girl would be so fun !
I am almost half way and hoping the next 21 weeks go fast !

Alicia,
I've been having bad heart burn. I can't bend down sometimes it gets so bad. I've been taking Nexium for it.
Janel, I remember you. Congrats on your pregnancy. I hope this one makes it. Take good care of your self & we'd love to have you here with us.

Many heartburn medications (including Tums) have been connected to fetal deformities so I stay away.
Here's what works for me:
- take digestive enzymes before each meal
- not lying down for several hours after meals
- trying to minimize the mount of trigger foods - for me spicy foods don't seem to be an issue but dairy and fatty foods are, as well as chocolate :(
- when I do get it, a friend gave me a tip which surprisingly works: chew 3 almonds, one after the other. I don't know why but it worked like a charm every time!

I had very bad acid reflux with number one and am now starting to take tums with number two. I found that I have to eat earlier than usual so it doesn't come up. I am avoiding certain foods too. Namely the spicy ones I love! It go so bad at the end of my first pregnancy that even water gave me heartburn.
Good luck to those of you with heartburn, it's a bi***.

Elisa,
Do you know if Nexium can cause fetal deformities? My Dr prescribed it for me but never warned me. I think I know what caused my heartburn yesterday I think it was that can of speghetti I eat. Along with some other bad side effects, I know what y'all are thinking why are you eating that crap in the frist place. But it's one of the crazy craving I been getting recently. I would never eat it before, even before Low carbing.
I can eat spicy foods, it's actually one of my favorites. I guess it cause I'm from Texas & Louisiana, we were raised on spicy food.

Kandie,
Glad you found us. I do most of the time but I do eat some things I shouldn't be eating. But I don't eat much bread, I eat high carbs earlier in the pregnancy. I eat more fruit then I used to & I haven't been eating as much meat as I was when I was on Atkins but I need to start eating more since baby is growing.
Most of us are trying to avoid too much weight gain.

I'm sorry Josie, I don't know about Nexium specifically. I do know that they don't always know about possible side effects until they happen so I stay clear of any medication. Heartburn seems to be different with everybody, for instance dairy helps most people but makes it worse for me. Pineapple helps me but a lot of people said it was a problem for them... try the 3-almond trick and see if it works for you.

Thanks, I'll have to try the Almond trick, it seems since the hurricanes & drought the price of nuts have really gone up. The year before last I would pay about $9 or $10 at Sam's for the 5 pound jar of Almonds & last I check they were around $15 or some where around there. I always bought the big ones because the way the guys around here eat them, they can't have a handful.
That's cool we'll be celibrating around the same time. I hope she's not born on your B-day because that's a Sunday this year. I'd hate for them to have to go & try to track my Dr. down. Or another Dr. have to come in that I never met. Once I had to go to the emergency room due to internal bleeding & it was on a holiday & they couldn't get ahold of my Dr & called in another Dr. who I never met. I wasn't happy about too happy about that. Other wise I wouldn't mind her being born on your B-day.
Wow you could have your baby any day now & it be healthy. When is your EDD?

EDD is May 16th, but since this is pg#2 and everything has happened ealier so far, I was hoping labor would follow suit and happen a bit on the earlier side, too... I'll be 38 weeks on Tuesday, she's a in a good position and at a good weight, so any time would be good really.
I'd love it if she arrived this weekend! My daughter goes back to school (after spring break) on Tuesday and I'm dreading the thought of having to walk there, get on trains and buses, walk home, twice a day.... I did it yesterday and it was pretty heavy, my pelvis was killing me! But I'll still try to walk lots this weekend hoping it'll jumpstart labor - it worked with my 1st!
