I was just curious about what women are taking who are in their late 40’s. I have heard a lot of talk about DHEA, L-Carnitine, CoQ10, and Natural Progesterone Cream.

I am 48 yrs old, now I never had any symptoms; I just stopped menstruating when I was 47 yrs old. I went my doctor, and she checked me out, and she told that I was in my menopause.

To this day, I haven't had a hot flash or a night sweat or anything like that. My only problem being menopausal is that it more difficult for me to lose weight. My metabolism is extremely slow.

Any suggestions out there will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Enjoy the fact that you are not having vasomotor symptoms, i.e., hot flashes and night sweats. Because you're not having vasomotor symptoms, no need for progesterone creams. If you have a sluggish thyroid I would reccommend staying away from soy products. I'm going to be 46 in the spring...I take on a daily basis:

Multi-Vit
1300mg Evening Primrose Oil x2
500mg L-Tyrosine x2
240mg GLA Borage Oil x2
1000mg CLA x2
200mg GTF Chromiun x2
500mg Magnesium x2
1 TBS Cod Liver Oil
400mg Sam-E

I'm so far into my late forties, that I've actually spilled over into the 50's. :help:

Here's what I take:

progestakey - progesterone cream
vitamin E - 400IU (for hot flashes)
multivitamin
GLA - 400mg
CLA - 3000mg
Biotin - 5mg
Calcium - 500mg
Magnesium - 400mg
Probiotic - 1g <--for flu prevention :D
kelp capsules

I spent my entire 40's in perimenopause  - gotta admit to feeling better in my 50's than for the entire preceeding decade. :D  Frankly, I think eating the Fat Flush way is the single best thing I've done for speeding up my tanked metabolism. :yum:

DHEA has 25 carbs per pill.....I think it is supposed to give you energy. Not a good one to take if you are LCing.

CQ10 is primarily for the heart, but it is a powerful antioxidant. Should be taken in conjunction with Alpha Liopic Acid, Vit. E and Vit. C. In conjunction, these are unique antioxidants that fight free radicals, recycle your glutathione and C, and aren't harmful in higher doses. Vit. C can be an exception, especially if you are in menopause. C in high doses can affect the way your body absorbs iron, and menstruating females are less risk because they lose iron every month in their TOM. Lots of veggies/fruit can give you most of the C you need, unless you smoke or under a lot of stress, two things that tend to deplete your body of C.

Calcium is a common need with older women...best taken as a potassium/Magnesium/Calcium combo -- common with LCers.

Fish oil/Flax oil capsules are powerful as well -- Omega 3's. O3 is an anti-inflammatory, and a necessary fat to keep you healthy. These oils in pill form go rancid easily, I personally just make sure I eat plenty of fish and supplement when I am in need of a good mood or sick, LOL.

Not sure about the progesterone cream....progesterone is a hormone for menapausal women. I know in pill form, it has its share of side effects. If you are lucky enough to not have any harsh symptoms from your menopause so far, I wouldn't take hormones unless/until you need them.

I'm still investigating supplements in depth right now -- I gave you what I know so far.

I take all of the above myself, but I am only 39 -- someone a little older may way in with different suggestions.

I'm your age -- 48 -- and haven't menstruated in a couple of years. My doctor checked my hormones and I am definitely in menopause, although, like you I haven't had any symptoms (yeah!) -- no hot flashes, night sweats, or anything like that.

I take calcium (in the form of calcium citrate) wth vitamin D and a multi-vitamin every day. That's it.

Since I'm not having any problems with menopause, I don't see any reason to use progesterone cream or anything like that.

MeBLady,
Where did you get your info on DHEA. I take it regularly and it hasn't affected my weight loss. I just check my bottle and it doesn't say anything about carbs.

Multi
Cal-Mag
Omega 3
Manganese
Chromium
Zinc
Extra C
Adding D
Silymarin and NAC for liver protection
Curcumin for achiness and inflammation
Lutein? The eye supplement

Alpha lipo makes me crazy and I had to cut that out, unless I have a high-carb day in which case I take one at night.

I had trouble with synthetic progesterone but none with bio-identical. Might want to look into that. What works for horses isn't the same as what works for us.
