hi, i need a low impact areobic workout machine. i dont like
treadmills because after a few days use my knees get sore. im
also not a big fan of bikes because i dont believe they can
sustain my heart rate at a high enough level (- ie my legs
give way before my heart). So i was wondering what is a good,
non-impact machine that can really get my heart moving. i so
far am thikning Stairclimber (although are these high-impact?)
and crosstrainer (those skiing like machines) any ideas? Jas

Join a gym for a few months - the one I belong to has
elliptical trainers, several kinds of stair machine, several
kinds of upright and recumbent bike (hand, foot, both,
either), and treadmills galore. You might as well spend $~50 a
month for a couple of months and see what you like.

Just walking!? Perhaps you are trying too much elevation or
too much speed too soon.

Sure they can! But I don't like them for other reasons.

That's another problem altogether. Give it time. That will be
true for anything you try.,

Heavens no! But stair climbing is a killer on the legs -- in a
good way, but it is v-e-r-y difficult. Try walking eight
flights of stairs in an office building to see what I'm
talking about. If your knees get sore simply walking on a
treadmill, I cannot imagine you could do a stairclimber for
very long.

Certainly a NordicTrack ski machine would be easy on the
knees, and it can easily get your heart rate up.

Another thing to try: an elliptical. There are many different
types. I prefer the ones with an arm movement component. But
for me, the best one for leg development has a "crossramp",
but no arm component.
