I'm wondering how many who are post menopausal have noticed that their weight is now easier to control? I know, or have heard, that when the hormone fluxuations calm down, that feeling 'normal' returns. I'm hoping that includes metabolism, at least somewhat! :q:

I only visit this thread occasionally, so I hope you're still here, Gail. I turn 60 this year, and have been post for maybe five or six years, low-carb for three. I've been at maintenance since April 2005.

My weight seems more stable since I've been on LC--but that's largely a result, I think, of excellent adherence to the program and a very regular exercise routine including cardio and weights.

One thing I have noticed is (at last!!) thinner thighs. Someone suggested to me that this is due more to hormone depletion than to diet and exercise, but whatever it is, I'll take it. :lol: Unfortunately, this effect also applies to boobs. But you can't have everything.

Thanks for replying Bkloots. I was losing weight and now am in the midst of the final throes of menopause, which has put the cabosh on losing for a year now. I've been treated for hypothyroid, adrenal exhaustion, candida, food allergies, hormone imbalance, SAD, and sleep disorders and still I'm plateaued big time. So, I'm hoping the weight loss will pick up again later...I'm not giving up eating right, and do exercise when I can.

Whoa--you've got a lot of treatment going on there. I've just switched over to Armour thyroid, and the doc and I are currently working on the dosage. I'm not dramatically symptomatic, so it's a matter of guesswork and feelings as well as blood tests.

As for exercise, is the "when you can" a matter of capability or priorities?

To me, exercise is the NUMBER ONE treatment for everything related to aging and general health. I'm a devoted home exerciser--have been for many years--and enjoy a wide variety of strength and cardio workouts on video/dvd. I used to spend more time at it, but now find that 30 minutes first thing in the morning works just fine. I work in other activity during the day as much as possible, like walking and climbing stairs.

Healthy eating is very important. But exercise is what completes the benefit. Wish you the best!
