Public Broadcasting aired a TV program, which I saw much of, with the title, Diet Wars. I don't know that I can do it justice by summarizing. The conclusion seemed to be that all diets are gimicks, and the goal is to consume fewer calories and exercise more. They seem to like South Beach more than Atkins. I think I caught part of it. The speaker was a former child actor that I remember from Leave it to Beaver. They profiled people who'd had success with Atkins, Weight watchers, the Zone and South Beach. The filming must have gone on for months because he became noticeably thinner over time. I think his point was that the South Beach diet, by emphasizing moderation, balanced meals and exercise, made more sense in the long run.
