Just thought I'd let everyone know I recently tried Carl's Jr. low-carb "six dollar burger" and thier "low carb breakfast bowl".

The burger was excellent, and came wrapped in giant lettuce leaves. Furthermore, it was then wrapped in waxed paper in such a fashion that the burger was quite easy to eat.

It's 5g. carbs according to their website - but I'm not sure about that...hard to believe.

I ordered my burger without ketchup because I noticed in the picture of the burger on the menu board, there was ketchup oozing out of it - wanting to make my burger as LC as possible, I asked them to hold the ketchup. The burger came with lettuce, tomato, red onion, dill pickle, mayo and cheese. Speaking of cheese, if I were to order this again, I'd ask them to hold the cheese too because it was that processed type - which I'm pretty sure has more carbs than a thin slice of real cheddar or what have you. Oh yeah, this burger is 500 calories, so not something you want to eat all the time, but for a rare treat - it's pretty darn good (for fast food).

My husband was so impressed with the burger (he's new to Atkins and still suffering from the "hungries") that he went out this morning to get two of their Low Carb breakfast bowls for us this morning. Now these were about 6 grams carb per bowl (according to their website...which I still can't quite believe) and the portions were *huge*. This dish is quite tasty if you're still inclined to eat at fast food joints. However, it's 900 calories!!

It's still a good option for someone just starting induction-level Atkins though because I know that when first starting out, it's all one can do to just keep the carb count down (work on carbs first, worry about cals later) while dealing with sugar/carb withdrawals - so I'd recommend this item for someone just starting out. It *was* delicious in a "fast food" kind of way. The breakfast bowl was pretty rich though (came with sausage, bacon, eggs, cheese) and I was only able to eat about 1/2 of it (my dog was quite thrilled to finish off the rest). If I were to order this again, I think I'd split one bowl with my husband, as I couldn't eat it all.

All in all, for a fast food place - pretty darn good! Not something you want to eat ALL the time (very high calorie), but a great source of an inexpensive LC meal while on the road or in a hurry. Much better than the LC choices at other fast food places. I've had to try a few fast food LC meals due to a lot of traveling (airport food), and I haven't been all that impressed with a bunless burger from the likes of BK or McD's. The Carl's Jr. "Low Carb Six Dollar Burger" wins...hands down.

Enjoy :)

I'm not a fan of the big burger, too much for me but dh likes them. The breakfast bowls are good but like you said, very rich, a large helping, and I might add dfficult to eat when driving.
You can get any of their sandwiches/burgers LC'd. I really like the Southwest chicken sandwich: bunless, like the burger and wrapped in lettice and wax paper, grilled chicken breast, cheese, whole roasted green chille, and chipotle mayo....yummmy, good eats. Add a side salad and bottle of water, now that's a meal. Not sure of the carb count tho, at any rate lower w/o the bun and soda.

On the East coast and the midwest also, Hardees carries the same menu as Carl Jr's.I believe they are the same restaurant chain but with different names.

I like the breakfast bowl but it is very high in sodium to my taste anyways, so I always drink plenty of water after having that rare breakfast treat.I drink lots of water during the day but make a point to drink extra water after eating the breakfast bowl.

The new garden salad at Burger King where they give you a packet of grilled chicken to top the salad is quite tasty.Their ranch dressing is low in carbs too.

I really like the LC Breakfast Bowl...I too make a point to drink a TON of water throughout the day afterwards because it is salty! But, a good eat when you are in a rush and need something LC.

After reading this I had to go out and try the LC six dollar burger. There is a Carl's Jr right by my work. I drove out there and bought one on my lunch break. It was really good!! I really hope it only has to 6 carbs that they said it does. Next time I don't have time to pack i lunch i know where I will be going for lunch!! :) :)

Glad you liked it. I order mine without ketchup, which should keep the carbs down even more.

I must admit, I've eaten a few of these lately, since we're renovating the kitchen and have no way to cook these days.

If you wanted to lower the carb count even further, order it without cheese or ketchup - that way, you'd just get the burger, lettuce, tomato, dill pickle, mayo, mustard etc.

It's a handy takeout item when you need something fast.
