Well it's that time of year again, time for one of my favorite holiday treats, egg nog. Every year I usually make a batch with real cream, a little half n half, Splenda, egg yolks and some pumpkin spice. It does not taste exactly like the stuff in the carton but it is yummy with a little rum and nutmeg on top.

When I was at Wal-Mart today I noticed that Hood Carb Countdown has brought out their egg nog for the year so I thought I would have a try since I missed it last year and was told it was yummy. Took it home and poured a cup and drank it down. It was very tasty…until I read the back of the label and realized that a 4 carb serving is only a half cup (yeah like we would only drink a half of cup, who are they trying to kid?) also it has the sugar alcohol maltitol, a nasty little ingredient that I am not sure why they put in when there are so many other good sugar substitutes. This especially surprised me since none of their other products have sugar alcohol. I have to say the whole thing soured in my stomach after that bit of knowledge.

I will not be buying anymore since it is so easy to make from scratch, but it was really tasty.

What I have found works for me is taking the Hood Carb Countdown milk and adding SF Davinci Egg Nog syrup...Wow...It is really good!

What I've found works is adding in a good dose of Bacardi 151 :p

Thanks for the warning!!!! I read an earlier post about the eggnog (no mention of carbs/SAs) and was excited to hear about it. Not now!! It wasn't around my area last year either, so I'm wondering if it has been reformulated like the chocolate milk has (upped carbs) or it's always been like this.

i can't wait to find it and try it. did you get it at a regular wealmart or a superstore? honestly, i can't afford to buy the more exotic flavors of davinchi at $7.99 a bottle. i only get what i can get locally at cost plus for $5.00 or cash and carry for $3.50. my family has already gone through a gallon of very tasty high fat eggnog that i sure would like to have some of. i had a sip and refrained from more, but it sure would be nice to enjoy a cup guilt free. thanks for cluing me in that this product exists. btw, i found hershey's sf baking bits at raley's. any of you tried those yet? there is a recipe on the back, but oddly it calls for 1/4 cup of brown sugar lol. what's the point then?

found this at my local walmart - it was good - but i want to drink the whole carton.

so it is probably something i will only get again like just for christmas day festivities so i wont have to completely blow it.

YUMMMMMY!!!!!! Found it at my local Walmart Superstore and couldn't wait to try it, very creamy and good tasting......none of that bitter nutmeg aftertaste like in most regular boughten egg nogs. Grandson loves it too, dentist's orders he gets no sugar at all.....just stuff sweetened with Splenda, he is 3 years old and knows the Splenda logo when we go shopping! It's not something I want everyday and 1/2 cup is plenty for a rich treat! As for sugar alcohols, they don't bother us! Everyone else in the room is on their own.........haha! :yum:

I tried this last year, and thought it was very tasty. I'm glad to see it's back this year.

I used to use Hood's Homogenized Carb Countdown and heavy cream in my homemade eggnog recipe, and enjoyed the heavier texture of the Homogenized in general. I was devastated to see it discontinued some time back. :(

I swear I remember the one I bought a month ago listed sugar as one of the ingredients as well as maltitol and it had a lot more than 4 carbs per 1/2 cup.

Can anyone list the nutritional facts?

Here is a thread I started on this topic last year, including the ingredients and nutritional information. :yum:
