Hi everyone,
This board is great, and you guys are so helpful!
This is my 3rd day back on low-carb WOE. I feel better already, and I am wondering - why did I ever stop? And not once - I went back a few times.
I am not sure why - is it that I forget how bad I feel when I am not low-carbing? What made you stop (if you ever did)? How do you "keep it real" and stay with it? :help:
Thanks,Tashka.

I was on chemotherapy for a year after I lost the weight.

My oncologist told me that I had to eat "lots & lots of carbs" just to keep my energy level up. Chemo really drags you down. No energy, constant fatigue.

So, contrary to most people, I gained 12 pounds in my year on chemo.

My treatments finished 3 weeks ago. Back to LC'ing. It was really easy for me the 2nd time through......

(BTW - I had 2 surgeries to remove malignant melanoma. Doc says now ... NED - No Evidence of Disease!)

I also am just about completed radiation for cancer, had chemo first, and between the steroids and anti nausea drugs it didn't take very long to regain the weight,. Also in the hospital (another story) and they just don't offer low carb food there.

Anyway can hardly wait to get back at my low carb way of eating. The irony is I hadn't felt so good in years, and then boom, cancer. Congrats on your results!!

Bill, congrads! That is such a scary place to be!

For me it was just laziness. Stress has always been an excuse to not take care of myself, and lets face it-LC and otherwise healthy living takes a lot of effort!

Cravings got to me and I guess I found it hard to get back to it and perhaps I just wasn't as committed as I feel today !! This time I am eating more fat (discovered this helps on another thred this morning) and I am taking good vitamins which I am certain have something to do with it....I have L-Glutamine if I need them for cravings too this time.

After induction, I am going to try new recipes and feel this will help my motivation.

Happy Low carbing

For me it was just laziness. Stress has always been an excuse to not take care of myself, and lets face it-LC and otherwise healthy living takes a lot of effort!

Those are my "reasons" exactly. I simply get lazy.....and/or feel like I "deserve" a high carb treat. HOWEVER, since eating high carb gives me indigestion, headaches, etc, and since I've been down this road more times than I'll admit to.....I must be a very slow learner!!!!

I lost all my weight in 2000 and was
doing mostly protein smoothies for
two meals a day to accomplish the goal.

Afterwards, having NOT read any of the
Atkins or EADS books I wasn't aware of
how to eat to keep off the weight. In other words
I didn't know that a LOW CARB LIFESTYLE was what
I needed.

This time as I am nearing a maintenance phase and
still losing weight, I am only eating High protein, moderate
fat foods and veggies. No Sugar, No Bread, No Potatos (I
eat a baked one occasionally) No Rice and all that this implies.
In other words, no pies, cakes, cookies, donuts, ice
cream or candy of any kind. No pizza and no Tacos or
burritos unless I can eat them in a LOW CARB tortilla.

Oh, and I don't eat cheese. Cheese is a binge food
for me and I can't JUST eat a little.

But now I understand that this is a way of life, or eating
and I am sure I have a much better chance of keeping my
weight off. In 2000, I was stumbling in the dark, trying to
eat an abstinant diet, but trying all the wrong things til
I got lazy and fell off the wagon.

Exercise is an important part of my abstinence too. :agree:

I am an Atkins threepeat with the same old story. Didn't read the books, didn't follow the plan as instructed, did things my way. Each time I went on Atkins I lost weight, felt better, got smaller, had more energy, started cheating, eventually failed and went off the program completely. But each time I also learned some lessons, figured out my body and its needs and educated myself. Finally I did the reading, put in the work and and have been back on track for 3 months. And so far, I don't see a chance of failure in my future this time around. I think the trick to arm yourself with knowledge and learn from your mistakes. But what has halped me the most is the confidence that even if I screw up I can stick with the program and be successful. Occassional set backs are not failures.

for me, I lost 25 lbs, and thought I was looking better, so I started eating things here and there, and then more..........

then I got depressed after dating again and of course meeting the wrong ones again.

well, I am now doing it for myself, and not for dating reasons.

it would be nice to meet someone, yet, I have to do something for me for a change.

Laziness does come into play sometimes too when you are single, and it is always easier to make something quick. the key is to have things made and you can just heat them up or grab them to munch on.

Have a great day.

I thought I was "cured" from my carb addiction!!! I figured I'm at goal now so I can eat like everyone else. Combine that with living on campus and I definitely gained it all back!

I stopped after I got married. The honeymoon ruined me! I think I didn't go back as quickly as I wanted to is because we weren't really doing it the right way the first time around. It got boring and I got so tired of the foods. Now its great, we cook, eat a lot more veggies, and are able to get a variety of foods.

I was going stong w/LC when I started school (october last year). In my anatomy class my teacher made a huge deal about carbs (how important they are) so I decided to slowly introduce carbs back into my diet. All I ate(that was carb heavy) was oatmeal, whole grain bread, berries, ff milk and occasionally ff potato chips. Gained 10lbs! I was doing cardio 5x a week and lifting weights 3x a week. It didn't make sense to me.

Everybody kept telling me I was gaining muscle and muscle weighs more than fat (which is bull. muscle and fat weigh the same, muscle is more dense so it takes up less space.). Anywho, everyone kept telling me to be patient I would soon see results. Well 1 year later, no results. I jumped head first back into LCing. Lost those 10lbs in the first two weeks.

I became complacent after I hit my goal, and started cheating regularly, giving in to those carb cravings that I've always been prone to. I'm older now and (I hope) a little wiser.
