Hi Rosie and Tikerberi!
I live out in Chardon (heart of the snow belt, but thankfully there isn't any!!!). I work in Mayfield Heights - Tikerberi might know where that is....Rosie, you're a bit further south.....actually, I have a bowling tournament down there next year....
I have only been doing Atkins (actually, just lc'ing - not really religious to Atkins) for about 4 weeks now - and I've lost 14 pounds - I'm very pleased with it - I just keep my carb grams to somewhere between 20 - 30 most days and it seems to be working. I'm not exercising like I should, but I am drinking water (very important) - though the weekends are tougher for keeping that habit up.....
Do you work Tikerberi? Perhaps we can do a lunch sometime....
Write again soon and let me know how you guys are doing!

I am starting the Atkins Diet on Dec 17th. Very hard to do right here at the Holidays. My daughter is getting married Feb 2nd. Relatives I've never met are coming in from out of state (husbands side).
I'm holding tons of water. I weigh 230.5 and am 5' 4". I need to keep the fats down to a minumum because my liver doesn't like high fat.
So please, please what can I eat for Breakfast besides grilled chicken and gr. veg. Can I have low carb tortillas on induction?
Any and ALL suggestions will be appreciated.
Will be waiting for your response. Irene Mansfield Oh

I'm not really an expert on induction - I didn't read the book....but from my understanding (and what I've heard) - induction is very strict - absolutely no more than 20 carb grams a day - and less if you can manage it....so that being said, I'm thinking the tortillas are out. You didn't mention eggs - you can have eggs until you're blue in the face - and be creative - mix in a few low carb veggies, mix in some meat (doesn't have to be bacon) - even mix in a little cream cheese!
Best of luck to you - I know this time of year is a rough time to start - I began the Friday before Thanksgiving, so I can relate....but as of today I've lost 15 pounds - and I'm just gonna keep on going!!!!!

Well, I started the Atkins Diet this morning with 2 grilled chicken breast of which I only ate 1 1/2. I have my trusty hugh water cup at my side. I already want candy and cookies (snowball, cut out, candy cane) you know all the typical Christmas stuff.
I need a lot of support from you guys. Please talk to me today through out the day. I will check often to see if you sent me any thing (like a straight jacket) ;) so I wont eat any thing illigal.
I hope you have an in control day too. I'll be praying for you.

Your biggest ally will be to get those "illegal" things out of sight.....and I know the first couple of days will be tough, but after that it gets really easy....that's what surprised me the most...I work in a large office and there is ALWAYS food around - but I'm not the least bit tempted - I'm always so full eating the stuff we can eat....I usually have the problem of getting enough calories....(too few calories can stall weight loss). Just remember what your goal is - and know that eating those things will take you further from it - is the moment of satisfaction worth that? I know you'll come up with the right answer.....
I'll be thinking of you! ;)

You are so great Mindy
I hope I can remember your saying "Is the moment of satisfaction worth that" when I feel so tempted to eat sugar and high carb stuff.
Thank you for being here for me and leaving me with the above thought.
I have to go to work now but will be checking in later for a reply from you. Be strong and resist, that brings the victory. :) :D rosie2

Hi! I live in Wooster and I am looking for local support! Does anyone know of any Atkins or Low Carb support groups that meet in the Wooster/Akron/Canton/Millersburg/Ashland areas? I enjoy the online support but would really like to be a part of a group that meets once or twice a week...I can't even find an Overeaters Anonymous meeting in this area! Any suggestions? I have been sticking to the program but I have reached a plateau. I really need support right now, so I don't feel tempted to cheat or - worse yet - quit. Is there anyone else looking to meet other Low-Carbers in this area? Please contact me if you are!

Getting together sound terrific. Do you know of anyone else who would like to get together? Right now the weekends are best for me to get together. Either a coffee shop or public library would work for me. To firm up plans please contact me at my email address of janflorence10~hotmail.com This might be a good way for other NE Ohio lcarbers also - know of anyone who would be interested in joining us? It would be great to talk to other people to hear of their experiences, strengths and hope.
How are you progressing with your program???

I am also from northeast ohio area. I am in the lake county area. I am new to this forum and new to lc dieting. I started it end of april for about two weeks and then I stopped. I started again this week and plan to stick to it this time. I need to lose 20 pounds. I am not sure exactly where to start or what a healthy level would be. Has anyone seen a doctor regarding this? Is there one local by us that is good that could send me in the right direction?

Faith,
Welcome! I live in Chardon.....I assume you know where that is, living in Lake County and all.....my brother lives in Mentor, and I'm over that way quite frequently - I bowl a lot, and in the summer the only place to do that is in Lake county.....
I have thoroughly enjoyed the ease of losing weight with this WOE.....it truly is the only thing that has ever worked for me. Ask me anything you want - if I can't answer it, I can probably at least point you in the right direction......
Hope to hear from you soon!

Hi! Thanks for responding. It is nice to meet you. My husband and I lived in Mentor for about a year before we moved back to our hometown, Madison. It is so cool to know someone so close is lcing too. I am really new to this diet. It has taken me more than six months to decide to try it. I don't like to commit to something I am not going to follow through on. So this is it. I am giving it a try. I am debating on if I should go see my doc because I have gained a lot of weigh really fast. I have not changed anything in my diet. I am not pregnant...lol which is what a lot of friends and family were hoping....along with me of course. well, enough babbling for now. Nice to meet you again.

Madison? That's the name of my daughter....but not for any particular reason related to your hometown......I was basically born and raised in Chardon - and now I'm living in the house that I grew up in - I ended up buying it when my father passed away.....:(
150 is not that far out of shape - you'll be down to your 130 in no time - just watch the carbs and everything will fall into place. I don't know what to tell you about going to see a doctor - not too many doctors are keen on this WOE - too high in fat and cholesterol.....but my husband had all his "numbers" checked (he's on this WOE too) a couple of months ago and his cholesterol is lower than it's ever been - his blood pressure is more under control and everything seems to be good.....
I guess it depends on what type of relationship you have with your doctor.....
Good luck to you and keep in touch!

Hi! I'm a newbie! I live on the west side and work downtown but I travel to the east side frequently. Would love to get together with you other low-carbers for lunch, dinner, coffee. Read the suggestion of the Arabica - which I LOVE, but have been avoiding because the cafe mocha is too tempting! Would be glad to go, though, with others. Yours Truly Restaurants specifically list low carb items on their menu....at least they used to!
Have lost 10 lbs., started working out and feel great. But doing this with friends would make it a lot easier!

Hi, I'm pretty new to the forum, but not to low carbing. My wife and I have been on Atkins since Jan, 2000.
We have some others who have been wanting a support group so we have decided to host a meeting at our office in Tallmadge Ohio October 3, 2002 at 7pm.
Our first meeting is going to be one where we discuss the structure and frequency of future meetings.
Anyone on a low carb diet (or wanting to start) is welcome. We will have some of our favorite food samples for everyone to try (including a real good cheese cake) and recipes to exchange.
Our address is: IEBT Corporation, 1685 Southeast Ave (St. Rt. 532)., Tallmadge, OH 44278.
If you have any questions feel free to call me or Judi Miller at 330-628-5106.

Hi Chari - glad to have you aboard....this is a really cool website, if you haven't already figured that out....I'm not on it as much as I used to be - work just isn't giving me the time (I hate it when that happens).
I actually work in Mayfield Heights - how far is that from you? I'm not geographically familiar with anything much out of Lake and Geauga counties.... :(

Thank you - yes, I've been fortunate with this WOE - it's worked very well for me.....right now I'm kind of in a holding pattern - I'm not following it religiously, so I'm sitting at around 148 - 150....but I figure if I'm eating basically anything I want and still able to hold there, I can deal with that....as long as all my new size 10 and 12 clothes (a whole new wardrobe costs a lot of money....) keep fitting, I'm not gonna complain....eventually I hope to get back on the wagon full time and get down to 140 and perhaps a size 6 - 8.....we'll see.
Do you work?

Yes I work in an italian restuarant called Casa D'angelo's its in Macadonia on route 82and 271. I work nights and weekends because I have a two year old I need to be with in the day. I have wednesdays and fridays off. On the weekends daddy stays home with my daughter. That would be good time for me to go out and have some fun after work but no one there ever wants to go out anymore. Moved here two and half years ago from Indiana. So I only have few friends from work and thats it. Really have not met anyone between work baby and hubby..... hard to find friends. I have met some real nice people on this website.
well thats it for now , baby messin up the house. What about you , I looked for your journal and didin't see one?

I just wanted to let you all know that there is a new store that recently opened that caters to low-carb. I haven't gone yet but it's suppose to have a lot of low-carb items such as breads, drinks, ice cream, etc. I just thought that I would get the word out since there aren't alot of places that sell low-carb. It's called:
Sugar Freedom
5696 Mayfield Road
Lyndhurst, Ohio 44124
(440) 442-4662
You can also check their website at www.wmji.com/sugarfreedom
On the website they also have a coupon for a free serving of Carbolite ice cream or a cup of sugar free cappuccino just for visiting the store.
Did anyone see the new beer commercial over the weekend? It's called "Michelob ultra" and Just as I was wondering why it was called "ultra", the commercial stated that it was a low carb beer. I don't drink beer but I think it's wonderful that companies are starting to cater to the low carb community.
:yay:

I found this store on the WMJI website, too and just went last Thursday. What a great idea! They have a wide selection of candy bars and meal-replacement bars, which is okay but I mail-order those from Atkins usually. I bought some low carb bread, tortillas, taco chips and bread crumbs. Kinda pricey but when you haven't had bread in MONTHS, it seems worth it to me! I plan to try the ice cream next time I go! I'm hoping they get a selection of frozen entrees, since cooking for one is boring.
If anyone would like to meet at Sugar Freedom for a cappucino some evening, let me know.

Hi Everyone,
Im a newbie to the forum as well as a structured LC WOE.
I live in Eastlake so Im fairly close to some of you. Great!!! Hi everyone!!!
I started doing Atkins Induction (mostly, lol) 2 weeks ago & I lost 6# the first week & no poundage the second but I still lost inches the second week. So far so good. Im still trying to balance my diet and try to keep track of the carb numbers.
A few years ago I was thin & mostly all I ate was meat & veggies, and a couple of times a week a baked potatoe & fried rice maybe once a week. In retrospect, I see that I was pretty muchly following a LCwoe & I didnt really realize it. When I moved to Ohio (from Tx) I started to cook differently trying to accomodate my new combined family's eating habits with my own.
4 & 1/2 years ago I weighed 135.......today 168........
I'd gotten to the point where I was sick & tired & tired & sick. I've been to a round of doctors & they tell me that they KNOW something is "wrong" & that I am not well or healthy (as well as many many women who come into their offices complaining of the same things) but they dont really know what the problem is & what to do about it. My "numbers" have always been perfect... (lipids, etc etc)
Im always reading some health/mind/body book/mags/litature etc etc & I started reading Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution again... for probably the 3rd time. For some reason it just "clicked" this time, even though I had to read it 2 more times for it to become clearer in my mind. (Foggy thinking as well as extremely low memory recall)
I still take it to work to re-read some section at lunch time & in the evening if Im not perusing the LC web sites.
I've started feeling GREAT most of the time since I started doing LC. All those symptoms of many many auto-immune diseases have mostly disappeared. Thank GOD & Dr Atkins.
A lowcb Store opened in Mentor a few weeks ago. I checked it out this weekend & found a few things that I've been wanting to try.
Its on the corner of Mentor Ave. & Rt 306, on the north side of the road. Its named the LOWCARB Store. Ya cant miss it.
They have Atkins products, diabetic food center, sugar free products & 10% of the profits donated to charities they claim.
I havent been to the website yet, but it is www.thelowcarb.com.
So anyways, Im working on fully immersing myself in this WOE.
Ya'll have a great one & take care.

We 3 are very close to each other.
Now that TG is over I am getting back on track carb wise. I have used many of the recipes off the low carb sites. Over 90% of them have been great. I use them so I can have baked goods with soy flour. It works very well for me.
Now if I could learn to love vegetables more than any other kind of food I would be all set.
A friend told me that Drug Mart is starting to carry a selection of Atkin's products.
Have a low carb wk.
