a month before i started atkins i was trying to generally avoid carbs and sugar and i was only having chicken and lettuce. Since i started atkins i have only been eating chicken, eggs, tuna, salmon, mashrooms and lettuce. i feel that i cannot eat any carbs or any food. what should i do?

is it ok if i try to start eating mayo but replace the normal mayo with the low fat in order to get at least some carbs?i know that the low fat mayo has more carbs than the normal mayo.

i feel that i am forcing my self to have carbs but i dont feel like having any. since last week i am forcing my self to eat at least some lettuce and some mashrooms.i have an egg for breakfast but i dont feel like eating anything else. i try to eat some lettuce because i know that i have to, but i am not enjoying eating at all anymore. the strange thing is that i dont feel hungry throughout the day, but i feel hungry at night roundabout 10. i then drink water and i dont eat anything because i know that i will start feeling quilty if i eat anything. in the morning because i feel a bit hungy, i have a boiled egg and i feel that i am full.i tried to have some bacon yesterday but i got sick just by the idea that i would eat bacon. last night i got very hungry and had some tuna but then felt quilty about it. i usually go to bed at 12 and wake up at 9 or 10

i am going on holidays in two weeks time and i started worrying if i will be given a low carbs meal because i have to eat something not for me, but because my parents will be worrying if i tell them i didnt eat anything during the flight.

what can i do?it all started after i slipped my 2 weeks induction last week and i was not happy with myself that i slipped. tonight i tried to force my self to have some pork but i felt sick.
i am in induction phase and i have to eat some carbs. can somebody tell me if can have low carbs mayo instead of full fat in order to get more carbs? or if there are any allowed foods that can give 20 gr of carbs so that i will have to eat at least one kind of food and not 3 or 4 different kinds of food in order to get the prescribed amount of carbs?or are there any supplements i can take?

i am sorry for the long post
thank you

It sounds like you're scared to eat, and that's not a good thing. We're trying to create a way of life, and not eating or beating yourself up about slipping isn't going to help you achieve your goal. 1st, forgive yourself for slipping on Induction and then move on.

If you don't like lettuce, try any of the green leafies - I prefer raw spinach to boring iceburg lettuce any day of the week. Play with some side dishes, I find that gently stirfrying broccoli or green beans in sesame oil with a little garlic and sprinkled with kosher salt gives them an awesome flavor and they're still crunchy and healthy! There are also mor exotice low carb veggies like jicama you may want to give a try. Go to foodtv.com and look up the recipes that guy does for his low carb show, I bet you you'll find good, healthy, foods that won't make you feel guilty and that you can enjoy.

I am sorry you are having such a hard time. I will try to help you with my 2 cents as much as I can. It feels to me that what you are struggling with is really an eating disorder of some sort. Atkins is not about starving yourself or about not eating carbs and if you need to eat more carbs, then it should be from veggies, not low fat mayo (which has more carbs in the way of sugar added) This is really hard to explain because I want to be sensitive to your feelings and understand, but what you are doing right now is dangerous to your health. Your body does need carbs, not sugar carbs, or other white poison carbs, but healthy carbs. You do need low glycemic/lowcarb veggies and fruits. You need vitamins and minerals. You need to balance Atkins, just like any other meal plan. Even people that follow the Meat/Egg/Fat fasts are not suppose to stay on that forever. That is not healthy eating. You need to find balance. You need to work through your issues with food so that you can truly follow "Atkins" because right now, that is not Atkins. You are torturing yourself for no reason.
I have lost 142 pounds so far, 81 of the on Atkins and that is with veggies during my meals. When you eat, you should focus on balance and not just snacking, but having small meals with protein, low carb veggies and fat. There are many wonderful recipe books out there.

The main point is that I get very full easily now and I use to binge all the time. I have to make sure I do not forget or neglect to eat because I know that is bad for my body and I know that is not what Atkins taught. Are you taking vitamins like we should be? If not you really are putting your body at more risk for shutting down.

If you are feeling so much guilt about eating that you cant even eat tuna fish without feeling like you commited a crime, then I have no doubt that what you really need is counseling for those issues and to pick up a copy of Atkins book that tells you what is best in the way of carbs. But more importantly, you need counseling. What you are feeling is really extreme. I hope the best for you and that you find the help you need and seek, but please know, right now, you are damaging your body, you are starving your body.

I'm expressing concern about your lack of red meat, such as beef. Chicken is OK every now and then, but beef is more nutritious.

I'm not sure if you're on induction right now, but if you are - it's very important that the carbs you do eat are mostly in the form of vegetables.

Trying to get some extra carbs from eating low-fat mayonnaise isn't the idea that Dr. Atkins had in mind.

There's nothing wrong with eating regular mayonnaise on this program, just check the label and try to get one without any sugar in it.

I know what you mean about not wanting to eat, and I think it's part of the ketosis you're experiencing as a result of low-carb eating. This being said, you do need to eat regularly or else you'll slow down your metabolism. Each time you eat something, even if it's just a small meal, you'll fire up your metabolism again.

Have you thought about making yourself some really good salads? For instance, how about a couple of handfuls of spring greens salad mix, with three cherry tomatoes cut into quarters, a few chopped green onions, some crumbled hard boiled egg, and maybe some cold roasted chicken topped with a nice lower carb blue cheese salad dressing?

I felt the same way you do - and yet, if I just made the effort to make something nice to eat, I was always hungry by the time it was ready. Sometimes I wouldn't think of food (the ketosis), but when someone put a nice low-carb meal in front of me, I had no problem eating it.

I think maybe you need to get yourself some nicer foods to eat, and perhaps consider daily goals of eating breakfast by 9, lunch by 1pm and dinner by 6. If you don't feel like a full meal, try to eat a healthful snack - perhaps a hard boiled egg and a few slices of tomato or something.

I know it's kind of hard to think of eating when it seems like there's nothing we CAN eat - but that's just part of the learning curve - we think we're limited to meat, eggs and cheese or something. Or we get stuck in a rut where we're eating tuna salad every single day. Of course it's going to get boring and unappealing if we keep this up.

Go get yourself some decent food. Set some alarms around the house or at work to remind you to eat regularly.

Hope things get better for you soon - and please do eat :)

If I may, I recommend the site www.sugarfreesheila.com and then click on her recipes.

You are going to find the most amazing things to have even at 10PM at night. And she looks amazing! she did Atkins before there were ATkins bars on the market.

so start eating and enjoy - guilt free!
P.S. I hear you lose more weight if you eat too!

I try to get some veggies in the morning in the form of omelets or a quiche. I'll put some sauteed spinach and feta in an omelete (my favorite kind). Are mushrooms and lettuce the only veggies you like? I would try to get some cauliflower if you can - it makes a great substitute for potatoes. Most of your carbs should be coming from veggies, along with all of those vitamins.

Please don't make this a diet. Stop feeling guilty for eating, that can be dangerous. Work on becoming a low carber.
Is lettuce your only vegetable? Iceburg lettuce is allowable but it isn't recommended because it has nearly no nutritional value. Romain is more nutritious and it is recommended. CK037,You give me the feeling that you are trying not to eat anything. I have learned to eat a much wider variety of food because of low carbing which is why I think of it as being soooo healthy. Before going on your trip, look into what foods are allowed on low carbing and present this to your hosts. There is tons of them. You don't have to have eggs for breakfast. How about eating some leftovers from the night before? People want to keep their guests happy so if they see that you will be happy with your food, they will be more likely to serve it. Make sure that you are eating 3 times a day even if you have no appetite. Lack of appetite doesn't mean that your body doesn't need energy. You have to provide the energy. A proper high protein meal keeps the insulin stable which also keeps your appetite stable. So...eat!

I had this same problem when I started especially with my breakfast, nothing ever sounded good and even when I would cook it and try to make myself eat it I couldn't. I went to walmart one day with one of my friends and she said that she really liked the Atkins Shakes, she chose Chocolate I hate chocolate so I tried the Strawberry and I was hooked. It has tons of vitemans and is quick and easy during the week to grab and drink on my way to work. I would have one every weekday for breakfast and lunch would either be leftovers from dinner the night before or a salad or sometimes I would make some pickle rolls I would take a piece of ham with cream cheese spread on it and slap a pickle in the center roll it up and eat it. For dinner I found this GREAT web sight that has TONS of recipes on it. I will give you the link.

hello people, i am sorry for the late reply. i was having a look at your replies but i had too much coursework and could not answer. it seems that the problem was the fact that i was starving my self because i got tired of eating the same food all the time and i had no apetite to eat. i had a look on the sites you gave me about the recipies. thank you all for your replies
