A bitingly humourous critique of Dr. Weil's latest nonsense.
http://blog.proteinpower.com/drmike/
Dr. Weil is a big, cuddly bear of a guy who has somehow gained preeminence as America’s physician who can be trusted to tell it like it is. I’m sure he will now be making the talk-show circuit dispensing his particular brand of idiocy to the American public, who will, no doubt, go out and go face down in the carbs. And the obesity epidemic will continue on.

And, finally, Dr. Weil in a burst of sanctimonious holier than thou-ness says
I have never eaten a McDonald’s hamburger. I think I am one of the few Americans who can say that.
He then goes on to add
However, I have, when on the road, gone into a McDonald’s to get a Coca Cola.

Too funny. I showed my husband the Time magazine with the article Dr. Eades is talking about and even he rolled his eyes.

I doubt I'd take dietary advice from someone that heavy. But the Eades blog is interesting. He mentions low carb studies that show proteolysis during ketosis. Proteolysis is the breakdown of proteins in the body. My guess is switching to a fat-burning system releases a lot of proteins to be recycled. Fat cells are held in a protein matrix. Burn the fat and the protein matrix is broken down and recycled.

Dr. Weil's web site (http://www.drweil.com/u/Home/index.html) will tell you everything you need to know about life, and plugs for all his books.

His wife also has a blog. http://blog.proteinpower.com/drmd/
It is mostly about food and cooking. Try the Low Carb Pizzas on the Grill http://blog.proteinpower.com/drmd/archives/2005/08/index.html

Good guess!

What is interesting is that Dr Atkins always talked about how important it was to take antioxidants to help our body eliminate wastes.
I thought he meant that your fat stores a bunch of "junk" in it and then the "junk" is released as you burn the fat. But it may be even more than that.
