Hi everyone,

I bought the SB book about two months ago because i stopped doing Atkins and gained 14lbs.

I started Atkins in January of this year and in six weeks lost 19lbs, to be honest i thought that was too much too soon, i didnt feel very well coming up to sixth week on the diet, there was a virus going around my town and it just wiped me out completely.

Maybe i shouldn't blame Atkins for the way i was feeling but it scared me and as i've said i gained back 14lbs.

I have opened the SB book many times but just can't motivate myself again, i know i must do induction but im dredding it as i had dreadful headaches withdrawing on Atkins.

I am 56lbs over weight, any tips or motivation will be appreciated.

Maybe i should give you more details about myself etc etc but i'm afraid it would make my post too long.

Many thanks,

Broná:)

MONDAY is a perfect day to start a better eating plan. My humble advice would be as follows: Go through the cupboards, give away or flush all of the things that make you miserable. And check back here when you are done. I'm not kidding...go.;)

At the top of this thread is the food lists and meal plan for SB. These were provided by Judy. I'd suggest going there and print these off. They are very helpful in getting started. And to keep and use everyday.

You just need to START.

hi brona', i think you are scared for your bad experience, but you don't have to think that it will be the same, maybe you did the atkin's diet to strict, you have to relaxe, i don't know what did you eat on atkins , but you probably need to eat more, but healthy foods, because loose to much weight in a little time is bad for your health and for your body too! you can do it !luck!!

Yay! You're back! Great!

It appears that you don't have a specific eating plan in mind yet, do you? I would hate to suggest anything since we are all so different in our ability to follow certain plans. ..... Hmm, do you have a game plan for today at least? Counting cals? Low carb? Lots of good food choices available for when the munchies hit? Be strong, Girl! We're pullin for you!:)

Brona - I know others might disapprove but I never did the strict two week period when I started SB in mid-July. My whole family decided to change our eating habits due to my husband's health. Since we saw this as a life style change rather than a "diet" we saw no need to go through a period of overt restriction.

My loss may not be as quick as somebody who has followed the plan exactingly. But I can't complain - 22 pounds in less than 3 months.

Maybe you should ease into the program on Phase II and see how you feel. Once you're comfortable you can always do a couple of weeks on Phase I down the road if you feel like it.

While this seems to have worked for you enna, the whole point of doing phase I is to get rid of the cravings and to balance the body's blood sugar. I may suggest to ease into phase I by eliminating foods slowly ie: give up sugar first for a few days and then go to eliminate the starches.

I would not recommend that anyone starts with phase II and then do phase I later!! that is totally counter productive to doing this plan.:nono:

On another note, if there are those who have done Atkins Induction and are already "clean, then by all means, start with phase II.

I dont like milk, do i have to drink it? can i substitute anything else instead?

Beans, i dont like either, do i have to have them and why?

I dont eat red meat, i eat chicken and fish, am i missing out on nutrituion?

Sugar substitute? I used Splenda when i was doing Atkins but have read that it is not safe, can you advise me about this please?

Hello Brona!
You don't have to drink milk. Do you like yogurt? Getting some dairy each day is good for you.

You don't have to eat red meat. Poultry and fish will do just fine. I eat mostly that and have red meat about once a week.

I eat hummus, which is made of chick peas. You don't have to eat beans but they are loaded with great fiber and lots of nutrients. As you progress on the plan, you may decide to try them. It is not necessary that you eat them.

I would not worry about Splenda, unless you use 100 packets a day ;) I use 1 packet a day in my coffee. If your body does not have a trouble when you use it, then why stop?

FYI- I too, had horrible withdrawal while in phase I. My first 2 weeks, I felt so sick that I kept eating fruit to help with the withdrawal. It didn't help physically but I think it did help emotionally

But what I did do was to get to a point when I said to myself "I'm ready to go fruitless and do 2 weeks phase I perfect!!" I ended up staying in phase I for 4 weeks total.

Good Luck! :D

Hi Judy,

Many thanks for all the info:) I wont get to the food stores until Thursday but i have been good today and started back drinking water.

On Atkins i got fed up with fries for breakfast so i cooked the Almond pancakes instead, i dont see Almond pancakes listed on SB, is Almond flour not allowed?

Doing my best reading and taking it all in.

Any tips from you will be appreciated.

What fries did you eat on atkins? :q: do you mean eggs?

As far as flour, even almond flour.....this is a touchy subject for some. I believe that any flour, even almond flour is not a good choice.

Sticking with foods as close to their whole state as possible is best.

Check out my journal to see what I eat each day. I've been lgging all my food since I started 17 months ago. I also think that you should start a journal and log all your food each day too!! :agree:

Fry up's you meant right? That's what we call them over here in the UK too.
Hello Brona, lovely name by the way.
Judy is a very wise young lady - she has been the most important factor in my transition from atkins to South beach.
I have recently changed over (well about 3 months ago) and have lost 24lbs (2 stone)...so I think you're right to come here for support and advice!!
Good luck, and if you want to come weigh in with some other SB babes then come by on the link on my signature, I have a thread dedicated to South Beach Babes!!
:)

Hi Foxglove

Thank you for the invite. I was hopeing to get to the food store today to get my supply of SB food, i doubt if i can go because i got a bad flare up of Fibro yesterday and usually IBS goes with the flare among other things:)

The flare up could pass without much symptoms fingers crossed, to be on the sure side ill wait until the weekend.

I haven't started SB yet but am watching what i eat, i had to go to bed yesterday early because of Fibro, i tried to read the SB book but had to put it down, i'll be ok in a few days.

Talk to you later and thank you again.
