I would love to hear more on this as well. I am currently taking 2000mg/day, and since Christmas have been unable to shake about 10 lbs that crept back on. I'm working out more than ever and watching what i eat/cutting back on sugar! I don't want to keep gaining!!!

I hate to ask a silly question as this is a low carber board...but are you restricting carbs with the metformin?

When I took metformin alone (expecting a miracle of course!) I only lost 4lbs - when I started eating complex carbs the weight started melting.

Complex carbs are the good carbs. No white stuff - bread, flour, sugar etc.

I only eat wheat bread, wheat pasta etc and combine them with protein like a reg low carb diet. I only eat no sugar added stuff too, like puddings.

It's not as strict as Atkins or South Beach etc, a bit easier to live with in other words.

Everyone is different, so what works for one person may not work for another. If you're already trying Atkins or South Beach or something similar, then adding something you've already removed from your diet may not work. What type of plan are you following?

Nicola! I just saw that you live near Croydon - I grew up in South Croydon!!! I live in the USA now tho.

Altho you aren't following any particular plan at the moment, perhaps you should restart the South Beach Diet (I see you have that listed as your plan) and see what happens. Have a big old chipolata for me (I miss them badly - American sausages are just not the same).

I am the same with diet plans. There is a lot of food I don't like or just can't get the same thing in America so I had to modify my plan to me. Even if it means eating a pretty boring diet sometimes!

Here's an example of what I eat so maybe it might help you!

Breakfasts: Whole grain honey nut cheerios with semi skimmed milk - (I don't drink the milk tho, something I've never done!)
OR
Couple of eggs (boiled, poached) with weightwatchers brown bread toasted.
OR
Egg beaters (the fake egg things don't know what they are called in the UK) with turkey bacon or sausages. You could eat reg bacon or sausages, I just don't like American ones. Sometimes with 1 slice of weightwatchers bread toasted.

Snack: Piece of fruit

Lunches: Deli turkey & ham sandwich made with weightwatchers brown bread, spread with mustard or salad cream, no butter or marg (sometimes I have 2!). 100 cal snack pack of cheesey flavoured crisp type things but they're whole grain. Sugar free choc pudding.
OR
If I had cheerios for brekkie I might have eggs and toast for lunch.

Dinners: Wheat pasta with some kind of no sugar added sauce OR meat and veggies, sometimes potato, OR soup and a sandwich.

Of course I can't do without me cuppas! I just use 1% milk and sweet and low instead. One of the things I couldn't give up from other plans was caffeinated tea!

I just make sure everything is complex carbs, no sugars.

Hope this might give you an idea for something you can follow hon!

i did try that way before i started the gym and south beach diet didnt really lose much on it but i might try it again, still seems alot of carbs to be eatin, although brown bread etc is better its still has high carb contents but will look in to it

makes food harder as i live at home and my dad has strict rules on what im allowed to buy, people have sugested i get my own food but i dont have the money

It's not the actual carb content I count hon, it's the lack of whiteness! I know a few girls with PCOS who have followed the same plan and lost weight too.

I'm in New Jersey, southern most tip, right by the beach.

American food might be lovely for a 2 week holiday but believe me every Brit I know who lives here hates most of the food! We spend a fortune in British Stores or waiting for our 'care packages' from home just to get the stuff we are used to! Simple things like sausages and bacon just don't taste right here and as for the bread...omg it's like cake as it's so sweet. In fact a lot of white bread is actually yellow! Brown bread is marginally better depending on the brand, altho I have to say Weightwatchers wheat bread here is fab! It's what you grow up with. I know a lot of Americans who have been to England and hated the food there too!

Hello all, new here...I am also taking Metformin 1,500 mg daily. I put on 13 lbs in 2 months on this stuff...I'm now doing low carb (started the 6th) and hopefully this will make the weight start to come off again. I will check in often to see if it is working for others.
