This article explains why it is important to add electrolytes to your rehydration regime. http://www.pponline.co.uk/encyc/0138.htm
As low-carbers, we can ignore the talk about sugars.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but is there such thing as a LC sports drink?

The article was saying that gatorade (sports drink) is better than water for rehydrating, but best is sports drink with added sodium and I was just wondering if theres a LC sports drink out there or if that defies the nature of a sports drink..?

I don't remember the formula but you can make a no-carb drink using water and LiteSalt. But why the concern about carbs when exercising? When the heart rate is elevated carbs in the blood go into the muscles without the need for insulin.

I make my own. What you can do is add some Litesalt (sodium and potassium chloride) to your water. I add some baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) to make it easier for me to drink. I also mix in some Crystal Light ( or Kool-aid with Splenda) for flavor.
For two liters of water use:
0.75 tsp Morton Lite salt
0.5 tsp baking soda (optional)
This will give you 103 mg sodium and 121 mg potassium per 8 ounces. You can replace half the Lite salt with table salt to get more sodium.
