 Hello everyone, Im Daisy from Ireland and i'm 18 years old! I have just started reading the 'South Beach Diet' book and i'm very interested in starting this eating plan...but I'm a little confused and scared haha!
Firstly, my most simplest query is: are tomatoes allowed in Phase one???
Ok now im quite confused and scared about Phase two! When entering Phase Two should I reintroduce one food from the 'foods to avoid in Phase one' list per day or per week??? I'm really confused as to what to do like should I maybe start by eating an apple a day for the first week and then the second week eat an apple and some oats each day and then by the third week be eating 3 'new' foods per day????? I'm so scared that I'll do Phase 2 wrong and put my weight plus more back on again! I'm aiming to lose around 40 pounds!
Another concern is I dont have a lot of confidence in myself that I could stay faithful to any low-carb diet as I am a carb-fanatic!!! So do you think it would work if maybe I altered the 'South Beach Diet' slightly for myself by maybe eating even a small amount of carb foods in my daily diet...because it would still be a huge reduction as right now carbs make up most of my diet???
I know I have wrote an essay...its just this diet is new to me and i'm really scared although it seems like a good eating plan to follow!!!!! So i'd be so thankful to anyone who could help me in any way.....THANK YOU :)

yes, tomaotes are OK in phase I and if you would look at the updated food lists in the first thread of this forum, you will see all the approved foods for phase I.
Ok now im quite confused and scared about Phase two! When entering Phase Two should I reintroduce one food from the 'foods to avoid in Phase one' list per day or per week??? One food per day for the first week. There is also a suggested meal plan chart that tell us how to adapt our meals for each phase...it can be found with the food lists in the first thread of this forum.

NO! Do the plan as it is for the first 2 weeks!! your cravings will go away after the first 2-3 days.

Hi!
Might I suggest to just focus on Phase I? I just finished Phase 1 myself and found it a little stressful the first week. I understand your fear of mis-understanding phase 2 as I'm struggling with it myself.
Please feel free to stop by my journal and vent.
And last thing....hope you like eggs! :Puke:

Thank you Alison and yes I do like eggs thankfully haha...I'll probably not want to look at another one after Phase 1 tho...i'll have to live on them coz I'm a student on a budget and I CANNOT cook haha!

Welcome to the beach Daisy!
Keep phase 1 clean - and by the end you should be done reading the rest of the book and be ready for phase 2 - but don't fret over it yet. Keep reading in this forum since much has changed since the book was written (mostly stuff that is now allowed, so by following the book, you won't run into issues).
I have several threads on how to have breakfast without eggs. Just go to search and put in breakfast as keyword and my name as person posted.
My basic recipe is: use 1 or 2 lettuce/salad leaves as your "slice of bread" on which you can add all kinds of things.
add tuna salad you made yourself - cheap - or - more expensive but maybe cheap in Ireland: smoked salmon, with lemon juice, capers and onion rings to taste
Or add 1/4 avocado and low fat cheese and red pepper or tomato.
Can you buy Houmus/Humus where you are? then add humus and a slice or 2 of turkey breast and half a tomato or 1/4 red pepper.
Or cheese and turkey breast and some more veggie

Hi there everyone! I just started the south beach diet 9/5/05. My sister is on the atkins diet. We been helping each other out on support. It's hard. :doah: She lives in Florida and I'm live in NJ. She told me about this web site.
I've been going threw withdrawels real bad. I love DD coffee light and sweet. I cheated on Friday with a large cup. When I drank that coffee I didnt' feel guilty. I had that energy to make it thrue my morning. But in the mid afternoon I wanted to sleep. Tomorrow is a new day. I will be still on phase one. Since I cheated I still have to go threw my 2 wks period. I will stick to it. I have a cruise coming up on Oct 10th. My biggest problem is flying. I hate feeling sqished in the seat and seat belt barely fits around me.
I do have a question. How do I not have these cravings? And I always feel hungry? Should I eat more? Will the cravings stop and the headaches? I also feel dizzy? :help:

your withdrawls and cravings, IF you are able to stick with this will subside in about 1 week or so. As for coffee, if you drink it with splenda and Fat Free 1/2 and 1/2 or fat free Evaporated milk you will not be feeling deprived of your sweet coffee and as a bonus you will not be cheating yourself. Vacations are hard, so you might need to buckle down a little harder for it. If you can make it thru the first 2 weeks without a cheat, you will mostlikely be free of all cravings. The it will be absolutely be on you to keep to the plan. If you have to cheat, follow the 3 bite rule (no more than 3 bites) and after you get back I suggest you go back to Phase 1 for a few more days and get back to Phase 2. Now I would like to suggest to you to start Phase 2 after the inital 2 weeks on Phase 1 but start out slow with 1 serving of fruit per day to see how this acts with your weight loss. Grains and Breads should be the very last thing you add in. If you have any more questions please direct them to Judynyc, since I will be out of town for quite a while due to a relocation.
Good luck on your weighloss journey, same for your sister.

HI and welcome!
Miezimau answered your questions in the previous post...did you see it?
I drink 1 cup of coffee every day and have since I started on South Beach. If you have 1 cup per day, you'll be fine and your headache will go away.
The cravings will go away in a few days...sometimes what we think are cravings are our mental chatter telling us what it is missing....if this is the case with you, what I do is thank my mind for sharing  and then force myself to think about all the wonderful foods that I can have...I do not allow my mind to dwell in what I no longer eat!! :agree:
I have printed out the food lists and meal plan charts and use them to look at when I am looking for something to eat. Maybe you could do this too?
Good luck!!
