Hi everyone. I was thinking that since I have given up on completely eliminating the yeast and just controlling it, that I have been feeling quite well. I have read that all humans have yeast and that some is necessary. So, why is it necessary to try and starve and kill the yeast and suffer from die-off? I was taking three-lac and I have not had any luck from that product, and supposedly you don't need a special diet with that, but I wasn't eating anything that bad anyway, and it still didn't work. So, I started taking a high count acidophilus capsule that was refrigerated, and taking that 4 times a day, and I noticed there is only a bit of white on the back of my tonque now and I feel quite well. What are the thoughts of others on this?

The so called "bad yeast" is needed by the body to digest food. The body needs a balance of both good & bad. Its not a war where you kill off all of the bad guys and then you are done.

The SCDiet diet gave me back balance. I felt better in a matter of days. No expensive pills - you just make homemade yogurt. And you can have fruit and even honey. I am doing it low carb for now though because I need to lose some weight.

There is a lot of hocus pocus where yeast is concerned. The founder of the SCD diet was one of the leading experts in this area. What it boils down to is - if you digest the food, it leaves nothing in the colon to feed the yeast, they starve and die and you repolulate the gut with good bacteria and they both go back to a normal balance. Taking pills and oils wont cure it. I've read that if you take pills while you are full of yeast and not on a proper diet it will make you worse.

SCDiet is grain free, no sugar. You can have fruits, veggies, meats, & honey. You are limited to the types of foods that digest fully before they reach the colon. Its an easy diet after you learn the basics. And you do recover- you dont have to stay on it for life.

I did it about 90%, I cheated a bit and I still got better.

Hi, I am new to this forum. My b/f is told he has leaky gut, Candida, Chron's, etc, so I am looking for all kinds of info on the net. And, here you all are too...

My first question is: what is the SCDiet?

Reading over some diet restrictions off another site, we are already cringing over the evils of beer and sugars in Candida diet eliminations. How long after being on a restricted diet plan, do you start weaning other foods back into your diet? I see the usual 6 weeks recommendation for the "first stage/step" with the strict restrictions, but can you actually have an occasional beer after the first six weeks???

Please advise.

Thanks,
Tam and Bill

Hullo there, and welcome. :)
I follow the Specific carbohydrate Diet, and will be happy to answer any questions for you.

You can find a summary of the plan here: http://www.lowcarb.ca/atkins-diet-and-low-carb-plans/specific-carbohydrate-diet.html
This is the official website: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/index.htm
There is a lot of information there, but I would also advise you to get the book: Breaking the Vicious Cycle, by Elaine Gottschall.

The SCD is definitely of great help to many sufferers of Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn's Disease etc.

All the best to you. :)

It depends where you live. ;) Here in Australia, the book is just plain not available - I had my copy sent to me by a friend in Canada. I can only suggest you look in bookshops etc. As far as I know it is available in the US and Canada. :)
