Hey friends,

I have to tell you what happened today--

I was in the bank and had to pull out my i.d. for something, and commented to the clerk on the nice job that the DMV guy had done taking my photo--she looked at it and said, "It's beautiful!" and I said, "I love it--it looks like a Scuvallo," and she agreed--and then said, "But you're thin--and when you're thin, it's easy to take beautiful pictures."

This lady was a trim little Asian-American woman. I laughed. I said, "I don't think anyone has ever called me thin before in my life." And she looked at me like she really didn't know what I was talking about--just befuddled. She looked me up and down, and said, "Of course you're thin. So pictures of you will turn out beautiful."

I walked out of there grinning like a fool. At 5'4" and 180 pounds, I'm not. But the fact is that I `passed.' A Nermal thought that I was one of them.

I wanted to share this one with you to warm your hands on until you are back here with your own version of this story to tell.

If it happened to me, it can happen to every one of us.

good night, crew. . .

Thank you, ladies. I still laugh when I think about it--it just seemed so funny to me. I'll look over my shoulder in the mirror and say the word--and laugh.

Like I said before, your time is coming--just you wait and see. Let's make this thread a place to share those stories when they happen.

I was talking to someone I had just met, and she was talking about her weight and said "but you cannot understand as you are so thin" and I laughed. I told her I had lost over 55 lbs and she did not believe me- so I pulled out my DMV awful picture- and she was incredulous and actually said "this can't be you- you don't look like the same person!" LOL!

I know that feeling. In 1984 I went from 280 to 164 on my 5' 6" frame. At the time I was attending the university. For the registration I had to go get my picture taken and when the guy came back with the proof before to see if I like it, I could not recognize the person I was looking at. She was beautiful, I remember asking, do I really look like that? To this day, I think it was the best picture I have taken in my life and I love my face in there. To bad that I will never look like that again, but I am going to settle for just losing the weight again, so that at least I can walk.

Congratulation, enjoy your loss!!!

This is very interesting to me that you should say that--just yesterday I pulled out my (formerly) favorite I.D. picture of me, a college I.D. photo taken the first/last time I got down to 150 or so, about 10 years ago. I call it my Lady Ophelia picture, because I have this startled, half-drowned look on my face, very pale. I laid these two photos side by side, and yes, I look older in this one--but hands down I like the new one better. The face is wiser, has lived more, and knows how to laugh.
Sadlady, settle for nothing. Plan on being more beautiful. . .

Another funny note: there's a place I rent movies from once or twice a year, and was there yesterday. She reminded me that my license was about to expire (how nice is that!) because that's what they use for their records there. I told her I'd already gotten a new licence, and of course had to pull it out and show it to her. She was amazed, said it was probably the best driver's licence picture that she had seen--but looked at me-photo-me-photo as if she was thinking, "Holy cow, how did YOU get this photo?" Too funny.

Wow You mean people are actually nice to you when you are "thin"? I usually get the eyes lowered stare.

Yeah, in general, they are. It's weird, but you eventually get used to it.

Your not the only one who gets the eyes lowered stare!! I can't wait to feel more normal in public instead of embarassed to be seen.

A Nermal thought that I was one of them.

THE BEST FEELING EVER.
Even now, being very thin for a long time, I still get a giddy glee when a normal person says I'm skinny. Just the other day in the veggie store I was squeezing between two crates, the owner was all like "MISS you can go around!"... but I had already made it between and he said "it's a good thing you're so skinny". Love it.
