For the past few years I have just hated my appearance, mostly because of my weight. I do not like my picture to be taken, I throw all of the pictures with me in them away after getting them developed. I hate to catch a glimpse of myself in a mirror when I'm offgaurd too. I guess I have some really low self-esteem when it comes to appearance. But maybe things can change.......
I am a teacher, and today was the first day of school for our students. I teach freshmen, they are all about 14 years old. One girl came in the room and sat in the front by herself. Most of the others sat in the back as we didn't have a seating chart for the first day. I went over expectations and classroom rules, being really stern (for the first few weeks we have to!) and had them fill out student info sheets. When this girl finished hers she raised her hand so I went to pick hers up, and out of the blue she very quietly says "I think you are very pretty Miss." I was blown away, it was just so sweet! So of course I told her she had an A for the day! After the rest of the class heard that they all chimed in also, "I think you are pretty too, can I have an A" "I like the color of your eyes" and so on.
Wow, what a boost for my low self-esteem! Young people can be wonderful! :)

I'd say that compliment is extra special comming form the mouth of a teen :)
I work with younger children and a little girl once said "Astrid your bum fits the story chair better eh"
Hope your school year keeps up with the first day :)

I would get these kids in on your weight loss efforts. There must be a way of including them. Maybe have them find nutricious recipes that fit with your plan. i don't know what you teach but surely there is a way to fit this in. Those kids sound like real comers.

I teach that age group also, and agree. Teens are some of the most underrated people around.

I wish you the best in learning to see yourself through the eyes of your class and us here, too.

I bet you broke the `don't smile before Christmas' rule, too, that day. Enjoy them--they really do like to know that adults like them and appreciate them.
