I think I did something wrong, I shouldn't smell like ammonia should I?
I worked out really hard yesterday, was too tired to eat much had 700 cal, 13 carbs no dinner. Today had no carbs just meat for breakfast. Lifted pretty hard. Then I didn't eat for 6 hours. It was my refeed day but I couldn't get away to go buy some food. I think your supposed to eat after you lift but I couldn't remember if its protein, carbs or what?

The ammonia smell is from your body breaking down amino acids. It shows up after exercise either due to not drinking enough liquids, or not eating enough food.

So you're saying I had muscles for lunch?

A high-protein diet produces a lot of BUN (blood urea nitrogen) which escapes the body in sweat. BUN in sweat is acted on by skin bacteria and broken down into ammonia.

thanks kaypeeoh. Gross but interesting. Would that also make urine smell awful?

Most of the urea produced in the body is filtered into the urine. And makes urine smell like urine. Especially if you aren't drinking enough water and the urine becomes concentrated.

I bet I was dehydrated. I drank 2 liters of water as I was working out. I was too tired to drink yesterday also.

Eat and drink more! 700 calories is not enough to sustain your body when exercising. You should eat a minimum of 1,200 and if you are exercising consistenly probably closer to 1,600 calories.

Thanks nets33 I know you are right! I've started doing more cardio instead of weights and I'm so tired I can't even eat.

If I ride bike for more than an hour with wind against me, all my clothes smell with ammonia, heavily.
I don't know it that is good or bad, for me it's a sign I have had a great workout. :)
