I have read that 25 or even up to 50 mg of DHEA is safe.
Recently I've read that no more than 5 mg should be taken. And
if you have any type of cancer, none should be taken. But if
you don't have cancer, it prevents it. I notice it sometimes
makes me irritable and have even noticed some hair loss taking
the 25 mg for a month. However it does give energy and helps
muscle strength. I've just stopped taking the 25 mg. And may
start back on just 5 mg.

Anyone have any info on this and what should be a daily
supplement amount?

Thanks

Have you had a blood test to see if you even need to
supplement?

No. I've read everyone starts to lose it as they get
older. I'm 49.

It seems the info. on this is all over the scale. :-) I've
taken 50 to 100 mg. per day now for the past two years and
only started having hair thinning since I lost a large amount
of weight, so I attributed it to THAT.

When I went on a tuna fish salad and celery kick, my hair
started growing back from the inactive follicles. I can hardly
wait 'till all those little short hairs get to be a decent
length so they blend back in!

I blame the hair loss on nutrition (or lack thereof),
not the DHEA.

I knew that. I am informed of DHEA and it's effects. The
question about blood tests was a moronic one and that was
what the sarc was about, not you. I didn't make the
decreasing post.

When I took DHEA at about 25-50mg per day, my body pumped up
with muscle without exercise. I felt like a teenager, I
craved chocolate and pizza again. I had more energy and
gained weight.

My wife has lived on 50mg of DHEA for the last 5 years. Her
"crow's feet" around her eyes disapeared agter a few months
and her skin is great. She is 52 yoa and none of it came back.
She is overweighhjt though a certain amount.

The question about a blood test was funny. I would test for
cancer at the same time I tested for low DHEA. If there is a
slight chance it encourages cancer it's not worth the risk.
Hair loss doesn't help. I have heard women go for balding men.
Is that how it helps male sexual function?

Stacy,

I believe the efficacy of supplemented DHEA varies widely
because of different manufacturers. I don't know how much you
know about it but DHEA is a precursor to various hormones eg.
testosterone & estrogen. This is probably why you have been
made irritable (increased testosterone) and hairloss may be
from increased DHT? As I am not a doctor these are only my
guesses and I don't presume to know it all about DHEA. A
friend of mine, Stephen Cherniske, wrote a book called "The
DHEA Breakthrough". It is very informative and although it was
written in the late 90's Stephen was right on with his
research. He continues to do anti-aging research and has
written another book called "The Metabolic Plan". He is now
the President and Chief Science Officer for Oasis
Lifesciences. Oasis produces a product called Ageless Prime
and it contains 2 forms of DHEA. The standard DHEA is only 7
mg and the other form (7-keto DHEA) is 15 mg. The difference
and benefit of 7-keto DHEA over regular DHEA is it cannot
convert to testosterone or estrogen. So you know that it is
benefitting you in the way you want it to and won't synthesize
into other hormones you may not need. If you want to check out
their products you can follow this link: http://www.oasislife-
sciences.com/site/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3-
3&Itemid=59 I hope this helps you in your quest to be
healthier!

To order from Oasis you need to be referred by an independent
associate and use their ID number. If you decide to order from
them you can contact teamoasis@comcast.net and someone will be
in touch with you quickly.

I take a dozen or so supps/minerals including fish oils so I
know I am not suffering any defiencies. I have taken dhea off
and on for past 8 years but only recently started taking it
every day for about two months straight. This was when i
noticed the hair loss. Everyone has different needs tho. Maybe
your hair loss wasn't the dhea. But I've cut my usage out for
now to see what happens. I will either get 5 mg ti take for
every day or take the 25 mg i have every 5 days.

No. It would be nice to know, but too much of a hassel since
you would have to test often.. One test is not going to tell
you much. It fluctuates.

Ok, keep us posted please? :-) If you have the gene for male
pattern baldness, the testosterone conversion from the DHEA
might set it off.....

Oh, and don't discount amino acid deficiencies. Are you
eating plenty of meat? Even tho' I'm low carbing, I was
eating more fat than protein (calorie-wise) in an effort to
speed up the fat loss.

Cheers!

Muscles do not take exercise to grow. They take genetics and
chemistry.

e.g. Look at many of the African descent blacks with bodies to
put most white males to shame. Cut up and a bopdy to die
for and yet maost of them have never lifted a weight in
their life and could barely lift the basic bar....and yet
***sign*** those sleek, long bellied, striated
muscles....bastards!

They WORK. Look at construction workers. Ever see their
naturally developed biceps from the constant lifting and
hammering? I knew some who never saw a gym and had a lot of
muscles. My dad was another example. A welder by profession
and avid gardner and fisherman when not working. He had biceps
most men would kill for. Never saw a gym. But got the muscles
the old fashioned way. Hard manual work.

The people I see have never lifted more than a sandwich. What
would the natives of Dominican Replublic work at? They have no
jobs and no strength either. My arms were less than half their
size and yet I could tear off the arm of a man twice my size
despite their impressive musclature.

Moronic how? Like, "muscles don't need exercise to grow"
moronic or "my n=1 experiment proves that DHEA works" moronic?
There is a reference range for blood levels of DHEA sulfate
and the test is probably covered by insurance. I'd urge the
original poster to simply have one done just to be sure that
the money spent is well spent.

LOL...where to begin with this nonesense? Pumped up with
muscle, eh? Anyone who follows your advice probably gets what
they deserve...which probably isn't much.

Which cancer would you check for?

Actually, since he's over 40, he might want to know his serum
