Do soy products have a negative effect on thyroid function? What little research I have done says yes! So, does that mean those yummy soy chips are bad for me? And soy flour???????? Gosh, is this something else to worry about? See, I am having problems with my thyroid, borerline underactive, and want to go the natural route to help it function properly! I am adding kelp to my diet tomorrow and will see what 30 days does! But, my biggest concern is, does soy have any effect at all on my thyroid whether it is healthy or not?

Ten people have looked at this and considering the hour I thought I would bump this up in the hope it doesn't get lost and when folks begin to wake up in a while...well maybe someone who has experience or knowledge can share info!

Hi MissScruff:

The answer is "yes". Soy is not the health food we've been led to believe.

Try this link. Mary Shomon is more eloquent than me.

Soy for me is poison!...........only thing worse for ME is tea! greentea, ice tea, black, hot tea, tea tea tea....:(

I feel the effects within minutes!

I also had to stop my flaxseed oil............I know research stated that flaxseed oil is OK but I am not sure I want to test it right now, maybe in the future.

The only person who can say foods/meds are bad for you or have an ill effect on you is YOU....go by the way you feel :yum:

Unfermented soy can affect thyroid. There's a ton of stuff that can, but most of them are mitigated by cooking.

The fermented soy products are tempeh, miso, soy sauces and natto.

So, raw soy can cause a problem, but the processed stuff, like in soy chips shouls be ok????uh uh. Fermented soy does NOT equal "processed stuff." Dodger is right on the money with what is considered fermented soy. ;)

I am hypo and after reading up on soy, I am convinced I completely need to stay away from it....and I am. I am better off without it.

I'm hypo and I am learning the hard way how sensitive my body is to different foods....soy included. I am currently on a "bloat" and my stomach has expanded a lot in the last month....and I haven't gone off my diet. I'm having to seriously rework my plan so I don't regain everything I lost.....
