Hi all,
I was just started on Metformin 1000mg/day for insulin resistance on Friday.
I had been occasionally checking my fasting blood sugar prior to beginning the met. and the ones that I have gotten have been in the 80's. Since I began the metformin my bs have been 101 on Saturday morning and 103 on Sunday. I know it isn't my diet because I have been extra careful this weekend. Has anybody else experienced this?
Thanks,
Jill

(I am assuming you are taking one in the morning and one at night.) Take the morning one 2 hours before you eat anything! Take the night one 2 hours before dinner and eat nothig after dinner. That should do the trick!
It actually takes a few days to get the drug completely active, so this little glitch must be from something else. HTH

I didn't know you could take you meds before you eat, I was always told to take with food. In fact, the bottle says to take with food.
Sherrielee, I am assuming you have had good results taking meds this way or is this just a temporary thing to do? I'm not happy with my levels at all right now. :(

I only got results with Metformin when I took it 2 hours prior to meals. I took (2) 500mg pills per day. One two hours before breakfast and one two hours before dinner. The Met starts working TWO hours after you eat, so you already have your PP rise if you take it with meals. Met peaks between 4-6 hours past taking it, but it cannot bring down high BG's if you have the food going in the same time as the med.
The Manufacturer only tells you to take it with food or milk because about 1/3 of the people who take it have nausea or diahrrea when they begin taking it. TRUST ME....if you can take it...even 30 minutes before you eat (and not get sick), you will see a great improvement!
