My first thought when I read that you messed up was, "gee I messed up my diet last night too when I ate pizza." But then I thought, "no, I will not think that way! I did not mess up my whole diet, I just hit a pothole, no big deal, I'm still on the right road this morning." I'm tired of beating myself up for being fat, I'm not going to beat myself up for one meal, I'm going to accept it, move on from it, learn from it.....and I did learn from it, I ate a healthy chef salad for lunch today and my resolve is even greater for tonight's meal to make it a good one!

Someone on another thread recommended the book "Life is Hard, Food is Easy" by Linda Spangle and I went out and picked it up. I'm an emotional eater, but it's all emotions- happiness, contentment, etc. Even though a lot of the book didn't quite apply to me (because I'm not eating because I'm sad or depressed), there were a few things in there that really hit home. She said to stop thinking in terms of "good and bad" and "cheating and illegal foods". Since I ALWAYS beat myself up for "being bad and cheating", I always used it as an excuse to blow the whole day. That usually let to blowing the whole week...month...6 months...etc. It's only been a few days, but I already notice a difference in my way of thinking. I made a choice (to eat that pizza last night  ) but it's nothing to beat myself up over and make another excuse to "wait until Monday". So don't beat yourself up over it- just pick back up where you left off.

I don't believe there is such a thing as "try harder." What does it look like? How will you know? Why did you not try harder the first time?
No, I fix the problem. If something's tempting, get rid of it (ideally, not by eating the whole box. Most things that can be eaten can also be flushed).
If temptation keeps occurring, I need to look at why. Maybe (Heavens, what a thought?) it's because I NEED something in the nutritional value of that food, or something like it? Sometimes, a craving for sugar is actually a craving for vitamin C--our bodies aren't always sophisticated enough to talk to our befuddled brains.
Look at the problem and solve that; don't just "try harder."

It sounds like your problem is that you are a perfectionist when it comes to LC.
Eating ONE LC candy bar is NOT the end of the world. Read my signature. Failure comes from no longer trying.
I'm not saying that going off plan is wonderful. What I am saying is that an "all or nothing" approach is how I got to be fat, and frankly, I'm sick of it. Having a balanced life in which ONE slip up WON'T send me into a tailspin of eating high-carb foods is ideal.
Carver's ideas about eliminating temptation are also useful. I was going to make LC PB cookies last night, but ultimately decided that that would be a poor decision; I'd likely eat waaaaay more than my fair share. So I did not buy the ingredients.

I concur with cs_carver. I'm truly perplexed by this wave of the "egg and meat" fast. You're going to be lacking in nutrients and variety and it'll probably just drive you more batty than you already feel. Why not ease up on yourself and let yourself enjoy good, legal, LC food? :there:

Maybe giving yourself permission to have a specific food once in awhile can help you. I think when something is forbidden, we want it more and will eat more of it. The food I sometimes crave is pizza and after I eat a slice I will crave it for the rest of the week, but the less I eat it, the less I want it, but I do give myself permission to have it as long as I don't go over 40 carbs in a day. It's hard for me to fight the craving after I eat all those carbs at one sitting, but as long as I remind myself where I'm going I'll be okay-and have my pizza too, not as often as I want, but I least I can have it if I really want it. Also egg and meat fast is better than carb loading, so at least people are trying and it's in the trying that eventually you will learn to do it. And do it right this time.
