When looking for the side effects on glutamte I found many
different opinions... many people seem to have some side
effects, but only in the West... In Asia glutamate is used
abundantly and no side effects are reported there...

Is it a Western disease ?

Is it a disease at all ?

Many government sites claim it is safe. Also non American
reputed universities claim it is safe (see for example
www.food-info.net/uk/intol/msg.htm and links from there). Can
we believe this, and other, university sites ? And if so, what
is the 'truth' about glutamate ?

msg is one of the best researched food additives there is, and
there are studies in both ways, some show an effect some show
none. there was however a double blind clinical study done on
people who claimed to have negative reaction to msg (in a
survey) and they found no difference to the control group.
I'll see if I can find that one again.

conclusion: some people might have adverse effects but most
don't .. its nothing else than a amino acid in the end (plus
the sodium).
