No unfortunately that wasn't the case for me. I think other folks have had luck with it though. I thought exercise was supposed to be good for arthritis?

Well...I'm developing osteoarthritis in my left knee....and I didn't have that when I started LCing. I think any relief one might get from LCing could be related to the weight loss...less pressure on the joints. I am incredibly metabolically challenged....the arthritis set in before I lost enough weight to make a difference.....

wheat and gluten sensitivities can aggrevate cause painful joints and swelling in the legs and ankles as well. LC eliminates this and therefore can improve arthritis symptoms.

Nightshade vegetables like potatoes, peppers, eggplant, and tomatoes aggravate arthritis, as well as red meat. What does help it's Omega -3 in fatty fish like salmon, tuna, herring, mackarel and flax seed/oil. Omega-3 known to reduce inflamation, while dairy, gluten and sugar, red meat and certain vegetables make the mattwer worse. Glucosamine sulfate with chondroitine and MSM works well too.

i do take glucosin/chondrotin(sp?) amd that helps somewhat but the arthritis right now makes it very hard to do much excercise. Thank you for the advice about the nightshade foods, i didnt know they were bad, i had heard that gluten and wheat could make it worse.
thanks

I don't know that my joint trouble is necessarily arthritis, but it has improved quite a bit. My hip was a real problem. I was limping and it frequently woke me up at night. Now at least 4 things have changed. I am LC. I have lost 80 pounds. I take quite a bit of fish oil (3grams + per day) and I take glucosamine/condroitin. I also take calcium/magnesium and a long list of others. So my condition has greatly improved in a year of LCing but I am not really comfortable saying LC is what did it. Though I have no problem giving the credit to Dr. Atkins as all 4 of those things come from his suggestions.

I am not kidding when I say low carbing has made my artheritis pain go away 100%
The first time I low carbed in 1999 I noticed it went away. I went on and off 3 times pain always came back went back on pain went away. Most of my artheritis is in my hands also so it wasn't just because of weight loss, it really has to be losing foods that aggravated my condition.

 Hello lhill,

You know, I never really gave much thought to the possiablity that my low carbing may have been the reason I am able to get around so much better, But it does fit.
I use to be in so much pain that I just wanted to stay in bed all the time, because I hurt so horriably!
Granted I have lost around 75lbs, but I am still very much over weight. So, that could have releived it some, but to compare what I was then and what I am now........ :D There is too much of a differance for that to be the only reason.
I fell down our stairs on my tailbone around 3 years ago and just about shattered it to peices. God, did that ever hurt. It hurt really bad for a long time to the point that even the act of sitting felt like I was going to go out of my mind! With my knee pain and back problems, OOOHH my god now thats pain!!
On top of that pain I was so depressed, depressed because I was a active person before all this. I loved playing with my kids and taking them places!! Laughing with them and making them happy. But when your in that much agony who smiles? Whos happy? It sure wasn't me!!!!!!
All I did with my children was, ask them to get me something or will you do this for me, like they were responcable for me...... Can you Imagine how awlfull that felt? After a while I believe they were feeling as traped as I was. I love my children so that hurt too! My life now is so much different now!!!!
My teens are now saying :) "Mom slow down a little" :) which sounds so much better to me than them looking at me as something they need to pity. Now I smile, now I am happy. Life is managable. I once felt dead, now i am alive!!!

I owe Dr. Atkins so much, I have my life back!!!

I heartily agree with what Littlejohn said. Purified fish oils! Omega 3's! I was taking a borage/flax combo, and my joints
were killing me. I think I am one of those who is sensitive to
arachidonic acid and the borage can increase it, as can foods
like normal eggs, regular (not grass fed) beef. Eating fish is
known to be good for arthritis. Dairy can make it worse.....I read about this in one of the Protein Power books, but there is
loads of info in the zone books, especially the newer ones like
Omega Rx and Inflammation Zone.....
