Hi all-

Was wondering if anyone might know something about this topic.
I have been doing PP (again) since December '04 (about 6 months now). In Feb and Jun I had blood work done. I have type 2 diabetes, but my A1c and fasting glucose are doing great. In Feb, my white blood cell count was slightly (?) elevated at 12.9, but the doc didn't think much of it, and I had a cold around then anyhow. This time, it is even higher at 14.3 and she is sending me to see a hemotologist. After looking on the web and seeing all the scary stuff about cancer and luekemia, I am kinda worrying myself silly.

One thing I did notice though, was an article that mentioned type 1 diabetics having elevated white blood cell counts due to ketosisacidosis (sp?). Now I am type 2, not type 1, and I am in ketosis not ketosisacidosis, but could that explain my elevated count too? Am probably grasping at straws, but have no idea how all this blood stuff works.

I haven't done PP in a few years, but the last time I had achieved great control (A1c of 5.3) it turns out my white blood cells were at 11, and I was in ketosis then too. My pre-PP tests, when my diabetes/blood sugar was out of control, all had white cell counts of 5-7, so I am hoping there is a connection there.

Anyhow, thanks for you patience in reading all of this & thanks too for any help/info.

Basically, if you have a slight elevation in WBC's (to my knowledge..i'm thinking about what my a&p classes taught me)....its nothing serious...may indicate a slight infection..or the oncoming of one. I'd say if it was a longterm thing..you might want to get it checked out. I'd say go ahead to the specialist..but dont worry yourself sick...and dont let all the media get you too worried! Goodluck...keep us posted!
