:help: This is not my first time low-carbing it, and I know from past experience that it is really good for you and all. My problem is that I need a buddy, you know, someone for encouragement and who will chastise me when I cheat....If anyone would like to be my "buddy" I would be extremely grateful.

I'll check back in a few days. Talk to you soon! :help:

Hi! I am doing the Atkins diet, and this is my first time on LCing.
This is my 7th day on the program. I do not know how it compares to your diet. But if we are all LCing - it shouldn't be to different.

I would be willing to be your buddy. Let me know.

That sounds SOOO great! I would love that! I'm getting more info. on things, and I'm starting as of right now!

It's a little hard though. See, my dad's a doctor who puts his patients on the Atkins Diet, but it hasn't hit him yet that it is not just a "quick fix." It's a way of life, but he bugged me last time, saying things like, "Haven't you been on that diet long enough? Here, have some ice cream." I finally got tired of arguing with him, and gave up. I don't want to this thime! I have a boyfriend who loves me and is proud of me just the way I am, but I want to lose weight so that I can feel that he deserves me! Also, I've been a little overweight and dieting since the sixth grade, doing everything from not eating to feeling so guilty about eating that I would make myself throw up......I'm tired.......and I am GONNA MAKE THIS THING WORK!

Hi Antimaniac. This is a return to LCing for me too. I am on about my 3rd day and feeling great. My problem is that I think I need to cut down on portions to lose weight. Also need encouragement about cutting out my daily diet coke and diet dew. Would love a buddy.

Hi

there are heaps of buddies here - you'll find you get them without even trying. You'll always get a responsefrom someone if you post something.

Holly - be careful on that vutting down idea -this WOE needs you to eat until you are not hungry so don't try to control calories. It's good to eat 8 -10 times your weight in calories.

Good luck to you all

Hi!

It's me. How are you doing?

I agree with you about parents. They love us, care for us and FEED US!!!! !!!! My Moms' kitchen is being redone and therefore has no stove or oven. She asked me to make a few special things for her - which I did no problem,
so, how does she thank me???? With cake!!!! LOL

The best I can tell you, is to practice, practice, practice
saying "no thanks". Or say you are full. It is hard, believe me,
I was at a weak moment, and that cake looked good.

Hope this help. By the way, where are you located? I live in Illinois, a northern sub. by the Lake. My first name is Pam.

First name is Jessica, and I'm from West Virginia.

Once again today was a good day! It's still hard, since Dad isn't exactly supportive of the whole thing. I saw some pictures today......I look like a chipmunk! It's not that I'm necessarily that FAT, I'm just a lil' bit chunky.

Thanks everyone for replying. I hope to hear from all of you soon!

Congrats on the cake thing Pam!

I'd LOVE to be your buddy Holly G!

I was looking over your profile and it seems we could be a match:
I'm 5'9.5", and started at 173, and I'm 21 (I'm figuring that you're younger b/c you mentioned your dad, but I could be well off). Well, we have quite a few similarities...I would love to help if I can. I looked into the Stillman's thing and that's where you eat only meats (well basically only meats) right? I'm on atkins, with not complaints. Let me know and we can talk:)

Hi to all today and thanks for offering to be my buddy too. I am so excited because I just edited my profile to reflect the loss of 4 lbs. I'm off and running now and I am grabbing my second bottle of water instead of my usual morning diet coke.

Congrats on your loss...you should change your profile to reflect it:) I change mine almost everyday (since I'm on everyday), even when my weight goes up, which never happens...lol;)

Maybe we should start a support thread...maybe in bootcamp or something. And then whether we need support, venting, or just to chit-chat, we can go there. Or I guess we could just use this one...duh:)

Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well,
Erin

Hi Erin and jazzyflyer. I am on about my 5th day after a long trip to carbsville. I am at that point where I am feeling kind of wired! I like it but I remember it kind of wears off but that I will have more energy. The weird part is that I am feeling wired after cutting way back on caffiene too. I have cut out pop all together ( I was doing 3 a day) and cut coffee down from 8 cups to about 2 or 3. I would love to be buddies and I love this website. Wish I had more time to tinker with it.

I am SOOO happy! I couldn't wait to get home to tell you guys! I started this diet Thursaday at 185 pounds, and, as of this morning's weigh-in, I am FIVE pounds lighter! WOO-HOO!

I love this diet! :yay:

I mean, last night, I got the munchies (don't you hate those?) and I ate an ENTIRE bag of pork rinds! What other diet could you do that on? Well, you could probably do that on ANY diet, but I don't think the results would be all that great!

Congratulations on your losses! I know that sounds weird, 'cuz usually you say, "I'm sorry to hear about your loss." Here, though, a loss is a GOOD thing!

Erin4980
Thu, Nov-15-01, 17:13
Holly G - you're wired on this diet? I saw completely wiped out for two weeks and then all of a sudden I was great. My bod went into carb withdrawl big time...so did I read that right - you're wired on the day 5 after cutting back caffine? Way to go. I wish I had had that happen;)

AntiManiac - great job on your "loss." I was looking at your profile and it said the day you started lcing
today" - what was that date? I'm curious, how long ago did you lc before? Great job on the loss.

Great Job Everyone (I just felt like TinyTim when I said that...you know how he says "God bless us, everyone"....lol) Alright can you tell I'm in a wierd mood today - only one more class until Thanksgiving break

I am so thrilled about this WOL I can't get over it, I use the lo carb bars occassionally when I'm with folks who are having dessert or coffee and.... and at this point a bite or two and I'm finished. It's just great. I love hearing everyone's successes and struggles, letting me know that everyone is in the same boat. chris :D  :D

jazzyflyer - I go to Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. I'm a Political Science and a HIstory major - I'm takin the law school route. I'm going to work for a year first...I was in London studying for the summer and didn't have the opportunity to really study for the Lsat and I wasn't ready for the OCT. test b/c of hectick school situation so now I'll be waiting one year and taking the test this FEB. I'm nervous, but I can handle it. I graduate in MAY and I am soooooooooooo excite. You know I've never gone talegating - our foot ball team sucks and I can never get up that early. It's sad to say, but I'm too cool, I guess;)

Watch out for ribs and chicken with bbq sauces on them. They can have up to 30 carbs per 2 tbl spoons - ouch;)

I weighed myself this morning, and I'm down to 178! This is SOO great! I am very proud of myself!

Holly G- How'd you like your pork rinds? I personally prefer the hot-n-spicy or BBQ over plain. Plain makes me feel like I've been eating crispy fat! (Not appetizing!)

Jazzyflyer- How was your tailgating? Did you get plenty to eat? :yum: I hope that you STUFFED yourself! (With meat, of course!)

Chrisews- Congratulations on your loss! Great job!

Well, I'll talk to everyone later!

P.S. I can't "weight" until a few more days have passed so that I can see how much weight I've lost then!

Hi all. I agree Antimaniac, the hot & spicey pork rinds are for me.
I have just figured out that I was kind of lying to myself about my
nightly biggggg glass and one half of wine. It may be low carb but at 100 calories per 5 oz, I nightly slug down 360 calories. I am really going to cut back or cut out altogether except on weekends. This'll be tough for this old gal.

I wasn't sure if you knew this, but you are allowed bw 10X and 12X your weight in calories. That gives you a lot of freedom, although I know moderation is key. If it makes you feel any better I drank 3/4 of the bottle on Thursday night. I'm not an alcoholic or anything - college student and I really only drink once everyother week;) I haven't gained an once, but I do load up on an extra liter of H2O the next couple of days just so my bod won't retain any after the fact.

[COLOR=darkred][FONT=arial]I am so glad I read your messages, I have been avoiding having even a glass of wine with my husband at dinner and that's one thing I really miss. Is it really low carb.? I didn't know. Say yes and make my day.   Chris

Red wine is okay (the dryer the better, not sweet is my philo). Check out Fitday.com and you can see the amount of carbs. It doesn't give brands, although I wish it would - it only has dry red.

Hope that helps,

Hi Antimaniac! I too can relate to family enjoying to feed us. I love my Granny to death, but Granny's have a habit of wanting to nourish us regardless of our size. I know it's b/c they care about us....but my Granny has a little habit of mentioning to us when we have put on weight, but will continue to pass the mashed potatoes/gravy, biscuits and mac'n'cheese our way! I can tell that my pleasant 'no thank you' is offensive to her, so I feel obligated to put it on my plate to satisfy her but then I end up wasting it b/c it goes in the trash.?? So I guess this is a common family issue. However, yesterday while giving a Mary Kay skin care class to a large family group Granny did speak up and compliment that I had lost weight and told me I looked nice. That was awesome to receive a compliment in front of others while doing something that I really enjoy. (Mary Kay is my p.time job/hobby) So maybe Granny is realizing how much the low-carb diet means to me and it was nice of her to notice. So, we'll see what happens at the next family dinner.

Jazzyflyer, did you weigh yourself yet.? I did and only lost one pound this week. Can you believe that I'm complaining that I only lost one pound, we get spoiled pretty quickly don't we. But I had a wedding on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and although I really tried to stay on course, I'm sure there were hidden carbs among the stuff I ate. I got quite a shock yesterday, I stopped at McDonalds with my daughter and we both had salads, We ordered the lo fat dressing, one envelope had 18 carbs, Can you believe that. Anyway, we'll all keep on trying, right. Chris

We ordered the lo fat dressing, one envelope had 18 carbs, Can you believe that.

See w/ low-carbing you want to keep the fat...try the fatting dressing. For example, I usually use ranch - my reduced fat has 3 carbs and my fullfat only has one gram....I think blue cheese is traditionally the lowest, but don't quote me.

Hi All,

I'm from Maryland.... Started Atkins last June at 244 and today am at 213.... It is the easiest diet to follow.... Just learn the rules and you can play the game..... [My first girl friend taught me that].....

I read the first Atkins book when it came out but didn't think I needed to change my way of living.... Over these years I've taken notice of all that has been written about the program and have had many many overweight friends who have tried all sorts of diets and programs..... After I learned that the fat we eat is not the fat we wear the Atkins diet became the most sensible.... Then this past June I wound up in the hospital with bleeding ulcers and they weighed me at 244 pounds..... That was the highest ever for me.... I've been on Atkins since....

Once I had been off of sugar for a week---- and I mean totally off sugar---- my appetite had dropped considerably so I'm not eating nearly the quantity of food as previously..... I'm a technical person... so sugar can be simply defined and I can find it where ever it exists.... in Cokes, in catsup, in breads, in prepared foods, etc. etc. My success I'm believing is being able to avoid sugars and enjoying salads, vegetables, cheese and eggs.
