I just had my four-month follow-up (okay, so it was supposed to be three-months) and the doc was quite pleased with my results.
When I was diagnosed my HbA1c was 12.8 and after four months it is down to 6.8! My blood pressure was 124/82 and my liver/kidney functions were all well within spec. I haven't lost any weight - have actually gained back about ten pounds (of the forty or so I lost while my blood sugars were totally out-of-control).
The doc told me to keep doing whatever it is that I've been doing and I told him that, more than anything else, that involved NOT following the nutrition advice from the diabetes education center. They wanted me at about 240g of carbs above and beyond green veggies (oops, that's right, those aren't "carbs" at all, those are "veggies" - what morons).
I've certainly still got room for improvement, especially since I'm not losing weight, but at least my BG's appear to be firmly under control.
