She is promoting her new 30 minute get real meals book and I've always loved her energy. But today on the Tony Danza show she bashed low-carbers as grumpy people. And not only are they grumpy they make the people that they live with grumpy too.
I just thought it strange... with my blood sugar stablized I am not only not grumpy, I am more even keeled emotion-wise.
If you don't want to eat low-carb don't eat low-carb but don't slam people who do. It's just not necessary to sell books or tv shows.

I have always found Rachel Ray to be so annoyingly perky that I can't stand to even watch more than 5 minutes of her show.
ugh!

Just once, I'd like to see her take a bite of something and say "this is disgusting" or even just "I've had better". Or pull a hair out of her mouth, that would be good. And I'd like to see her occasionally come in way over budget on her $40/day show.

Haha, I actually laughed out loud when I read your post!! Too funny!
I thought Rachael Ray was irritating when I first started watching her show, and then I started to like her but yeah, now I have to agree she's still irritating.
And also, yeah I agree about not being grumpy since going LC. Food used to control me so much so that I would be pissy if I didn't get to eat whatever I was craving at that very moment, or if I was hungry and my blood sugar dropped and I'd be shaky and irritable.
Low carb has given me back my manners as well as my patience.
I used to love Rachel Ray and got hooked on $40 a day. Except in every show every meal is "amazing" and somehow she kept it under $40  She is too perky for me too.

I don't find Rachel that annoying but that might be because I am a guy and Rachel is ... um ... you know what I mean. Don't tell my wife though because last time I hinted at that she said, "maybe you should be with Rachel! She could cook for you, it only takes her 30 minutes!" I wasn't that upset when I found out how she felt about Christian Slater
It is also somewhat surprising that Rachel would feel that way about LC diets because I have noticed that lately (when I was actually paying attention to what she was cooking) she has been making some low carb stuff. Not everything looked ok on Atkins but she was making healthier options for, "those who are watching their carbs." Wonder what made her change her mind?
Anyway, Rachel is ok but my favorite cook by far on Food Network is Alton Brown. Even though Alton thinks healthy = low fat, his show is the most interesting and entertaining. Of course that guy can think low fat is healthy, look at what he eats on the show and then look at how thin that guy is. Still that isn't as annoying as the super skiny girl who eats tons of pasta on Everyday Italian. What is wrong with these people? The Italian girl might be insanely skinny but Rachel is more cute.
Of course George Stella gets the prize for most healthy food, and probably the most amount of weight lost from a guy who hosts a healthy eating cooking show. Not as entertaining as Alton but close -- and plus I can eat everything he cooks! Why they put him back to back with that calorie commando guy is something I have never figured out. Sure they are diet shows but they are complete opposites!

I think it is the whole, "I want to be accepted by the media" syndrome. Many of the celebrities who go on talk shows etc are usually very politically correct with the things they say, taking care to choose their words very carefully to avoid any backlash, whatever the case may be. I think in Rachael's case, she may not necessarily be pro-low carb, but isn't anti-low carb either, therefore she spoke about low carb in a way that would be most acceptable by main stream standards, .i.e., taking semi-anti-low carb stance. Honestly, I think she is one of those people who sits on the proverbial low-carb fence, which doesn't suprise me at all.

I know what you mean about the Everyday Italian show host...not sure of her name at the moment. How she can remain that skinny and "eat" all that pasta all the time is beyond me. I don't mind her show, per se, as some of the food she makes (though not low carb) looks downright delicious...however, I do find that she annoys me from time to time too. LOL. Not sure that what's all about. Maybe the fact that both she and Rachael Ray are female, and I am more partial to hunky male celebrity chefs...Tyler Florence, Rob Rainford, Bobby Flay...et al. :yum:

Not much of an Alton Brown fan and only time I can tolerate him is in little bits and pieces on Iron Chef America. I admit, his show is educational though. Regarding George Stella, we don't get his show here in Canada anymore, which is a real bummer. I am not even sure why Food Network Canada doesn't air it anymore. Hopefully they'll be bringing it back at a later date. Back when we did get the show, I was as anti-low as one can get, and how that I have embraced this lifestyle, his show is nowhere to be seen. It figures...

Rachael Ray isn't wrong about the "grumpy" when it comes to me. I know for a fact I'm more tense when LC'ing, I havent quite figured it out yet..but its definately there and noticeable.

For me, I get a bit irritable if my carb level is TOO low - 20 grams is too low for me.
Most of the low-carb postive shows of RR are older. She even has one show where she admits to watching carbs herself. Then she reversed her position. It's hard to keep track because they air her shows in no particular order.
Still, I watch her for ideas. Using TiVo I get through one of her shows in 5-10 minutes these days, though - I don't need to hear her say the same thing for the upteenth time.
I wonder how many days it takes to find the perfect "$40/day" scenario. I'm sure her scouts do lots of the work ahead of time - either that, or she actually films for several days and they edit.
I love Alton Brown. I used to find him irritating, but I'm a sucker for "kitchen science" (I have a bunch of books) and his style doesn't bug me so much any more. I made his "greens gratin" last night (variations on both his "Beet It" and "Field of Greens" shows) and it was really good (obviously I skipped the cracker crumbs on top, but put in a mixture of almond meal, bacon bits, herbs, and parm cheese instead - yum).
Another cooking show fave is "America's Test Kitchen" (PBS).
And I like the Eades show a lot. (Lowcarbworx or something like that.)

Heh. If, by chance, you don't have a television and have no idea who Rachel Ray is, please do not look on the internet for photos of her if you're at work.
What a tart.

omg, I know I know...some women are all "good for them" and they can "do what they want...more power to them"....but personally I think running around in your underware for a bunch of guys/guys magazines is trashy. For one..if they are going to do it do it right and go naked or nothing. Instead of acting like Jessica Simpson and trash talking strippers and hooters girls then stripping down to your skivvies and prancing around for the camera.
Anyway thats just my opinion~ TRUST me I know theres a billion people who dissagree with me.
Other than that she aggrivates me because everything is soooooooooooooooo good. I did see her in one episode where she must have been sick or something. She definitly wasnt as peppy, it was strange.

I don't know who she is, but maybe that's because I don't watch cooking shows on TV. Those who do might have a food obsession. If you're trying to lose weight, most of what you see on tv is going to hinder you. Especially if you're watching food shows.

The only show I can stomach is 40/day. And even that annoys me to an extent. The best part of that show is when the locals she harrasses for advice try to ignore her. Too funny! 30 minute meals makes me want to puke. But I did catch one show where she was promoting a dish as "great for low carbers." If we are so grumpy, why the h&)) is she worried about making food for us? Hmmmm.

I don't agree. I watch cooking shows, and have most of my life because my Mom enjoys them also. I rarely make what they have on TV, and even if I did, I would only make suitable foods, so I can't see how I would be hindering my weight loss. I have no obsession with food. I just enjoy seeing different types of ingredients prepared. I like knowing where different products come from. I actually gain knowledge from watching them. If your statement is true, I must also be obsessed with the news, decorating shows, sitcoms, and plastic surgery documentaries.

Cooking shows, bleh. Except Iron Chef, (the Japanese one) that's kinda fun. I love HGTV. Give me a Divine Design double header, makes my evening. Watching doesn't get the house painted though.

Cooking is a hobby with me. Also, low-carbing is for life, so I might as well eat tasty food! The cooking shows give me a lot of ideas. (My husband isn't complaining, either - I've become a much better cook!)
My mom does think it's odd that I watch cooking shows while I'm on the treadmill, though.

"Most of the low-carb postive shows of RR are older. She even has one show where she admits to watching carbs herself. Then she reversed her position. It's hard to keep track because they air her shows in no particular order."
Most often I refer to this as wave running. When Low Carb was becoming more "In" and "Trendy", she was all over that wave and was riding it for all it was worth.
Now LCing is not as trendy as it was a few months or so back, so she is riding the negative to LCing wave. She may also be, as was said here, catering to whoever her host/audince is...
Spinless, no character, public opinion junkies are what many celebs are. Actually I find it funny to call a cooking show host a Celebrity....
But honestly, I could really care less what she or any of em say as long as I know it is not true........and it is not like they can stop anyone from LCing....

It's sort of a free country. Except for the patriot act ... What am I saying? This is a public forum! Ahh the Patriot Act is good! We love big brother...
Anyway, as I was saying this is sort of a free country and if Rachel Ray wants to pose for a mens magazine then it is her right. Even if the rest of the world thinks it is trashy.
What is interesting about Rachel Ray is that unlike most of the other chefs on the food network she didn't go to school to be a chef. I guess her nice smile and preky personality really helped. And even though she never went to school she is a pretty good cook.
I guess I love Alton Brown because of the science part. So many show just show you step by step how to cook and don't really make it clear how to alter the recipe. Alton tells you the science behind it so you are free to experiment all you want but you will know where to draw the line so that your custard will set -- or whatever you are cooking will end up turning into the dish you were going for. Most of the time though his recipes do end up being quite good and you don't need to alter them -- unless you are trying to come up with a LC version or whatever.
Sometimes his goofy show concepts won't work and the show will end up getting annoying; like the cabbage show where he pretended to be on a very annoying talk show. But sometimes he can be quite funny and educational. I would suggest that all meat eaters should watch his episodes on steaks and BBQ's. He will tell you what part of the cow is best for what dish, then tell you why that part of the cow is best for that dish, and finally what to look for in the super market when buying that part of the cow.

But my beef doesn't come from cows, it comes from steers!

I guess I'm in the minority, but I do like to watch Rachael Ray and I totally agree with her philosophy, as it is mine also "Everything in Moderation"
What a boring world it would be if we all thought alike!

She was GMA about month ago promoting that same book. She was saying how like 80% or so of the recipes was or could be lc.She said it was a book for people who cook for all kinds of diets(teen on low cal and husband on lc,etc).
I love her 30 min show,can't stand 40$,too boring.

Rachel rocks, she is very cute in person, and small, when I recently saw her at a book signing in Torrance, CA.
I think maxim chose her as most desirable woman--perfect blending of looks and cooking ability! yum :agree: :yum: :yum:
