I know this may be a silly question but I love eggs and especially hard boiled...I eat alot of them but hate peeling them (Breaking into little chips...under my nails yah yah yah)It not the worst thing in the world to peel them but I am a sucker for little handy gadgets and I keep seeing the ad for that thingy (I think it is called the eggstractor or something like that) It is supposed to take the shell of in one swoop...Does anyone have this thing , and does it work??? or should I save my 12$ and buy some nice lamb chops instead :yum: :yum: :yum:
I always get great tips here...so I thought I would ask
Thanks

I don't know but If you get one let me know, because it would be a great TOOL for the kitchen if it really does work! :)

I LOVE boiled eggs, but once they gave me heartburn. Now they don't - strange that that happened once.

I always had my kids peal them, but I'm down to only one now and if he moves out I'll have to learn to do it myself.

It doesn't work all that well, unfortunately. Save yourself the money. I found one at a garage sale for 25 cents, and was so glad I didn't order one.

I crack the eggs when they're freshly boiled and then soak them in ice water. Peel them under the water and the shell usually comes right off.

It's still a pain in the buttocks, but I'll suffer for my eggs.

Forgot to add, I'd LOVE one like in Bridget Jones' Diary... the one that her mother demonstrates. Now THAT looks easy!

eggs peel better under a warm temp. so if they're cold run them under warm water when you peel them, if they're hot run them under cold water. after a time or two you get the feel of the best temp and the shells slide right off

Also adding a little vinegar to the water when you boil them helps. I haven't had any problem peeling eggs since I started doing that. The egg almost falls out of the shell.

After cracking the shell on the sink, counter, etc.,
roll the egg firmly between your palms to loosen up the shell,
then peel.

The fresh ones are really difficult but I find that they peel better if they stay in the fridge for a few days or a week.

The "Eggstractor" didn't work at all for myself or my husband. We followed the directions exactly and the stupid thing blew shells all over the kitchen! Not to mention the fact that it mangled the egg I put in it. We tried it several times and never got it to work and out of total frustration, and being upset with myself that I had wasted the money on it (luckily I found it in LTD for like $5) I threw it in the garbage!!

another thing to try, depending on the size of yor egg, get a teaspoon for a smaller egg, a tablespoon for a larger egg. tap and crack the egg then run the bowl of the spoon under the edge of the shell where the curve is at the top of the egg. the spoon should glide right over the surface of the egg and peel almost the whole shell right off. usually works pretty good for me.

YES! I was just marveling at how easy the ones that have "aged" a bit are to peel. Its like the shell almost comes in in one whole piece!

I'm picturing that right now! Like some horrible car accident but with eggs!

I found one at a thrift shop - boy was I glad I didn't pay full price. I didn't follow the rules exactly because I didn't want to peel a dozen eggs at once & did it the day after. I ended up with a smashed egg shell intact - lol. It took all my strength to use it also.

A good amount of salt in the water helps. Also peeling it under running water while it is still fairly hot.

agree with MRT721! I roll them between my hands and it is so quick and easy.....all the shell just falls off and you can easily peel 4 per minute!

I guess it is lamb chops I will spend the money on...much tastier anyway :)
It is funny those who bought it said it blew up because when I was watching to see how it worked ,all I could think was "How does this thing get the shell to come off without smashing the egg?" I guess it doesnt
THANKS everyone for the handy tips...no more little chips under my nails and sticking to the egg anymore
:)
