I am new. I have been working hard on getting my BG down. I was 311 in February and now an average of 125. Now can a person get too few Carbs. Would that cause their BG to go up even if they have had no Carbs?

You are doing a great job !!!.....
BUT.......
Have you read any book in that matter (on diabetes)........?........
........It is not that good for "us" not to have any carbs.

Yes, it's possible to get too few carbs and see your blood sugars go up in response to that when the process of gluconeogenesis kicks in.

If you are interested in low carbing, may I suggest that you pick up a few books on it from your local library? There are several plans that you might find helpful. You can find a brief summary of those plans here (http://www.lowcarb.ca/atkins-diet-and-low-carb-plans/)

I am trying to follow the Berstine diet. Six for breakfast, 12 for lunch and 12 for supper. I have figured out that grains give me a rush of sugar. My really hard time is in the morning. At least the have stopped the migraine headaches. I have first hand experience with the BG going up in the morning.

I know the Dr I am going to is managing by the A1C. To me this is not enough.

A lot of books give their point of view. If you follow the ADA diet, if I remember correctly a male is allowed 60 carbs per meal. When I first started I was shooting for 40 carbs per meal. However, the more research that I did the more I felt that was too high. When the migraines hit is when I dropped down along with my BG to the current levels.

If I go too low on the carbs my blood sugar starts slowly dropping to the point I'm really dragging. I'll wake up in the morning and find myself in the 60s. I think that's not common but happens to some of us with early diabetes. I think the best for me is about 40-50 gms of carb a day. I also find it really matters what kind of carbs I'm eating - and staying away from wheat and processed grains seems to be the key for me.

I have first hand experience with the BG going up in the morning.

Do you mean it's higher when you first get up (fasting AM reading) or going higher than you would expect between breakfast and lunch?
Higher fasting readings are something that many diabetics experience and are often caused by Dawn Phenomenon. If you do a search in this forum using those words, you'll probably find quite a few discussions about it along with various things that posters have tried to improve those fasting readings. :)

It was in here that I put together what was happening to me with the Dawn Phenomenon. It gave me something to search on the web and to talk to the dietitian about what to do.
