hey all

ok this may be a bit long because i am doing this diet from the book and these forums and have some questions. but first a bit of background

my girlfriend and i decided to go on this diet. we are both in out early 20's (23 to be exact) and are not highly overweight. my normal bodyweight is like 195 and i'm 215, 20 pounds, which isn't horrible and i know alot is muscle because most of my weight is concentrated in my belly, my face is thin, my arms are lean and tone, and my legs are nice from biking, i essentially have some man boobs and a little spare tire. my girlfriend is similar. what got me here was basically malnutrition, when i was young i was way obese, like a 44 inch waist in gradeschool obese, then i started the low fat diet and lots of excercise and it went away, however with that low fat was very low calorie intake, so after the diet a bit of that was left over... i would not eat for days and then gorge myself when i had the opportunity to eat, even with being somewhat active this caused problems and slowly i went from a 32...to a 34...now to a 36.. and i am aware that as i get older my metabolism changes a bit and such, but i wanted to put a stop to this before i grew any more. my goal currently is to happily see 34 waist again (and lessen my man boobies). before the sbd i was a potato and carb nut (because hey they are low fat and afterall its what worked before). i noticed lately that hasn't worked and the weight creeped up on me. so this is where i stand somewhat into the phase one, now onto what i need to know

ok phase one, first off the recipies in the book for the most part are not food i would eat, now mind you i was never a fried food/junk food person but my tastes in meals are a little more basic, like some grilled chicked marinated in balsamic vinegar or spread with some no sugar salsa. couple with a salad, or i would have a grilled chicked salad with some cheese and olives in it with balsamic and olive oil dressing (mostly balsamic), or i'll have steamed crab. basically not alot of the variety they offered in the book, but still with the allowed phase one foods. is this ok to do? also i am a fairly big guy, even when i was thin i was tall. i have an appetite on me. is it ok to eat til i feel full even if its a little more than what the book says, or is it ok to use a little more dressing than what the book says?

also are green olives ok on phase 1? i don't see why not but they are not mentioned anywhere. same with ensure shakes, where do they fall in?

oh another biggie, my gf and i don't work set schedules, so sometimes i'm up at 10 am, other times i'm up at 3pm. how would i work with that on the diet, again no mention of that anywhere. should i just with breakfast whenever wakeup times is and spread my meals from that point. this is what i have been doing so far, say i get up at 2pm i have a breakfast then, then at like 330 or 4 i have a snack, then at 6 a meal, 730 or when i feel hunger tinge a snack, then have a dinner at 10 and go to bed like 2am. does that still work ok? because if not this diet won't be for me, i am unable to stay on the same schedule everyday

the good part i've had is i really haven't had any cravings for sweets or carbs, it's mostly just knowing how much of the other stuff to fill up on because before i would use breads to fill me up, so i feel like i'm being bad when i have that huge plate of salad or a chicken breast and a half to fill me up instead. i just want to make sure i'm doing this ok

sorry for the length and thanks in advance. i will try to remain active around here, oh and the little lady says hi

Hi! Welcome to the Beach!!

The way you want to eat phase I food is exactly the way I've been eating this plan too. There is no rule about following the recipes in the book...thats why we have an approved foods lists to chose from!! I love the freedom of this plan!! You can click on my journal button to see what I've been eating since last JUly. It may give you some ideas.

Green olives are OK as are all olives!!

We are encouraged to use whole fresh foods and to avoid any processed foods...so try to not use the Ensure drinks.

As far as your scheduling is concerned, I'd start your food day when you get up. My breakfasts have been non breakfast foods and I've had no problems.
Again, look at my journal. Remember to get your snacks in as this is a big piece of this plan!! This is a very flexible and forgiving plan so don't sweat it about your irratic schedule!!

There is a chart called How To Adapt Your Meal Plan in the first thread of this forum. I've printed it out and use it to help me stay on track. It may help you too!! :D

Best of luck to both of you!! :agree:
