Hello!

Yes, there are low carb milk products. A common one is Hood Carb Countdown Dairy beverage, which comes in full fat, low fat, and skim varieties.

Another way to eat cereal is with cream or half n half, mixed with water.

I don't do either, so I can't recommend one over the other!

Hey- welcome to the forum! First you should be careful with low carb cereal and make sure they are truly carb friendly! Uncle Sam and Kaishi cereal is probably the best that i have found for taste. As far as milk goes, I am on a different plan, but I am supposed to drink skim or 2%, b/c I am supposed to curb both fat and carbs. Atkins may allow whole milk... Milk is also good for your skin as you lose weight and need to keep it tight!

I use the water/cream combo (or USED before I had to give the cereal up. <sigh> ) since I can't get the Carb Countdown in my area. I have used it before, though, and it IS good.

I'm still looking for the 2% or "light" versions of the Carb Countdown milk. I can only find one store near me that has Hood stuff and they only carry the fully-leaded version, which to me is like drinking pure heavy cream. Bleh.

On another note, Hood also makes Carb Countdown juices in Orange, Orange Banana, and Banana Orange Pineapple. I haven't tried them but if I remember correctly they're all around 4-5 carbs per 8oz serving.

I have been wondering about those Hoods juices,b/c I love juice sooooo much but have been thinking it may be to good to be true sa I have been hesitant to buy any. Are they truly low-carb and are they loaded with sugar alcohols?

I am hooked on the Hood too. They sure work for me. I make a chocolate protein smoothie nearly every day for breakfast, use a scoop of whey powder, and a tbsp of flax meal, which gives it a more creamy texture. The whole thing comes out to less than 5 carbs. I've been on ketosis using it.

I love cold cereal, but try to stay away from them, because I'm tempted to eat too much of it.

I've tried the orange one. It is good, kind of tastes like Sunny Delight, which I'm not particularly crazy about, but I watered it down and it was actually quite good.

My Okie grandmother, aged 81, has been eating cold cereal with half-n-half her whole life. I, myself, was raised on farm milk, so I appreciate the thick, creamy stuff. Anything less than 2% has always seemed like chalk-water to me.

On the cereal front, though...I bought some hot cereal at the health food store last week. It was in the low-carb section, and promised a blast of fiber with only 3 net carbs per serving. I prepared a bowl of it, and was unable to swallow the second bite of it. It tasted like a bowl of buttholes, pardon my French. Bleah, bleah, bleah. Beware.

Good luck with your weight loss!

I think someone else was supposed to make a low carb milk... Le Carb, I think? One of the people who made low carb ice cream too?

In any case, I'm quite happy with the Carb Countdown milk. Even their low carb chocolate milk is a nice treat now and then.

There are many unsweetened soymilks on the market right now. Trader Joe's has their own brand, WestSoy makes some, Silk has (at least) one variety... plus WestSoy also makes Soy Slender, a Splenda sweetened variety.

Someone who might not want to use artificial sweeteners might want the unsweetened soymilks, or someone who can't find the Carb Countdown milk in the grocery store, or someone who can't consume dairy.

Women, that's who. Larrian Gillespie, a leading-edge researcher in the area of female hormones, recommends one serving of soy for women every day.

Do you know by any chance what the carb counts are for the Uncle Sam's and Kashi? My store had five varieties of Kashi and one Uncle Sam's, but none of them were low carb. I'm looking for a decent flavored LC cereal. Thanks much!!

I just found the info myself. Alas, most varieties of kashi has honey in it. The only one that didn't had a bit too many carbs for me. I also saw that Uncle Sam's has roughly 20g net per cup. *sighs* I knew it was too good to be true for my diet. Sorry about the post. Have a great night!

Soy is actually very bad for people with thyroid problems. If you suffer from hypothyroidism stay away from all soy products.

It probably depends on the store, but sometimes the soymilk is cheaper for me. But if you really like the Carb Countdown milk, stick with it! It's just good to know that there are other options out there, especially in case Carb Countdown products disappear some day like the other low carb products are doing.

shellsyn,

Thanks for the clarification. I should have noted this in my post.
