Has anyone experianced any really bad bruising since they started this WOL? I have the worst bruises on the inside of my arm, how can I fix that, is there a vitamin that I should be taking? It looks really gross, I don't even want to wear a tank top that how bad it is, I will itch or rub my arm at night before I go to bed, and when I wake up in the morning, I have bruises all over my arms! It really sucks!
HELP ME!

Hi Erin,
I would increase the amount of Vitamin C you are taking. Vit C deficiency is notorious for causing bleeding gums and bruising. There is a lot of information about it in this old thread. (http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=40004&highlight=bruising) As usual, Doreen gives some great advice. :)
However, if your eating has not changed and the bruising has just appeared, it would be a good idea to see your doctor to rule out any blood disorders.

Quercitin's a specialized bioflavenoid particularly helpful to blood vessels.
I take 9 grams of C a day; bruised badly up to 3 grams. Would suggest testing the 1g / 1000mg option first, if that doesn't work, keep going (but also suggest seeing a doctor).
Depending on what you were eating before, you may be getting a lot less than what your body needs, and what some references give as "recommended" can still be WAY less than what you need. There's barely enough in most multis- to make much difference at all.

Hi,
Here in Holland they recommend Arnica (homeopatic stuff) against bruising (doctors recommend it to avoid bruising when you get plastic surgery).
Hope they have it there because I've heard it really works.

Thanks everyone! I have to get some Vitamin C, and Arnica isn't FDA approved here in the US! But thanks!
Have a great day! Badly bruised!

You can get arnica ointment at any pretty good health food store. Rub it on the bruises and it helps them heal faster.
As an herb, I'm not sure it would be FDA approved, at least not under the current system.
I've never taken it orally.

Don't you guys have FDA-approved homeopatic stuff over there in the US of A?? :q:
Here doctors -in general- recommend homeopathy in several cases (of course it depends for what.....they don't recommend it for a serious ilness).

The FDA does not do approval of herbal products, and certainly not of homeopathy. There is a small effort to test "alternative" treatments funded by the National Institutes of Health, but I think it has a budget on the order of $1-10 million, which is really miniscule compared to the size of the pharmaceutical trade.
In addition, many of us are fighting hard to KEEP the FDA out of the herbal market because history indicates any "approval" would severely limit access to anything "alternative" (I want to say "new" but many of these products are actually "old").

Arnica works really well to prevent bruises. Another homeopathic - Traumeel cream - helps to get rid of them faster.

i have nothing scientific to base this on but i read somewhere that when you lose a large amount of fat, the blood vessels and capillaries that feed the fat weaken and break when there is less fat to feed.....so maybe a bit of bruising is a positive sign that fat is being burned off and the extra miles of blood capillaries that develop have nothing to do and no where to go so they get weak and DIE!!!
Anybody with medical knowledge know if there's any truth to this speculation?
i'd love to know for sure!
