please help I can't beleive what happened. I was a size fourteen only needed to lose 10 pounds. lost it no problem . was a sexy size ten - twelve in no time managed to maintain for seven months never really losing anything else as I was near perfect size. went on holiday to cyprus and within six days of normal eating and drinking swelled up to a size sixteen . how can this happen so quickly as i never really had a weight problem but I certainly do have now. I'm scared to go back on atkins as what happens the next time I go off it for a week

10 lbs gain in six days does seem to be excessive. If you are not happy with it .... what can I say? The choice is yours to make.
You say yourself that you lost it without any difficulty. All you need to do is go straight back to Induction and get yourself into Ketosis.
I have fallen off the wagon a few times and I do put on 2-3 lbs. My health is so much better on the Atkins diet that I would not want to change this way of life.
Take care.
Hi,
Sorry I don't have any knowledgeable advice but a lot of it might be water retention, try drinking a lot of water over the next few days and clear your system out. We all over indulge on holiday but this does seem to be rather a lot of weight to gain in a week. You'll either have to put it down to experience and start afresh or go in another direction, either way it is a decision only you can make.
I've alway's worried about going back to eating 'normally', I would think I'd have to have a crossover period whereby you'd have to remove the fats to replace with the carbs and that may be more difficult than swapping to this WOE in the first place as we get used to adding as much fat to our diet as possible...we may also have stored fat in our system and that may take a few days to clear.
In the atkins book, towards the end, he does say to try other diets for a few days to kickstart your system, I think a fruit diet is mentioned (sorry, don't have book with me at the moment).
Don't despair though, you'll get lots of support from this lot but I think one important factor that would be of interest to all, would be if you could keep us all informed of your progress and what you decide to do.
This is a relatively new WOE for all of us and we need to know and understand things and by you keeping in touch and letting us know what progress you make would enable us all to learn from it.
I wish you loads of luck and I'm sure lots of it is probably water. PLEASE, PLEASE let us know what you decide to do.
We're all here to help if you need advice and encouragement, you've lost it before and you can do it again.

It's water weight. The same thing happens to me. Didn't you feel absolutely lousy when you resumed your old way of eating?
This should give you an indication of what "normal" now is for you. Stepping on and off a "diet" will eventually have you end up as you were before. For weight loss to stick, your new way of eating has to be a permanent change. Splurge when you like, but just remember what the consequences will be when you do.

hi , thought I would keep you updated , went to the doctor last week as I was also feeling tired and dizzy, did some blood tests and have found I have a borderline underactive thyroid , have to go see him again but as he is on holiday it will be on the 20th nov. he is going to discuss putting me on meds or not. Went to underactive thyroid websites and 90% of people on there is trying atkins and saying it is the only way for them to lose weight so as of yesterday I started again. hope it goes as well this time for me as I find once on it I can continue no bother . thanks for all you support and I will keep you updated

keep us up to date on how your doing? :D
Hi Scotlass,
Glad you had things checked with the Doctor and that you're going to continue.
We're all in this for the same end result and we're all different so things are going to take lots of learning and lots of time.
Take care and keep us updated with things.
