Hi Everyone!!!!!

Quick question. I bought Atkins creamy vanilla shake today and when I got near the bottom it was kind of clumpy!! Is this normal??? I'm not sure if I just didn't shake well enough or if it's spoiled.

Thanks in advance.

Nope not normal from what I have had.
check the date code, also... it could of been spoiled during packaging or the way it was kept.
If it tasted fine.. no worries I would guess?
But still I would take the can open and emptied along with the others if you have any.. and return and exchange them.

I have had and tried all the Atkin shakes, there all smooth and lump and clump free.

OH, OH.

I just checked the expiration date and it says July 05. I was reading the box and it says creamy texture and shake well. I was wondering if i'm supposed to really give it a good shake. I guess I should return it.

I'm confused.

The clumps are a bit scary, but I'd try another and give it a good shake, then dump it in a glass to see if you get clumps. If you do, time to take it back!! Hope this helps!!

Buy these shakes from retailers who see a high turn-over, and you will see less clumps.

I have found that the clumps happen when the shakes haven't been sold in high quantity. And yes, please do shake them very well. And serve VERY cold. It's amazing how much difference this makes in taste.

I forgot that point. It really is like night and day!

Yes, it has happened to me in several of them....I pour my shakes in a rubbermaid gravy shaker to get rid of the lumps, it works quite well....and yes, serve COLD as hell!

Ditto here, just had one with some clumps this morning. I agree that the more you shake them (no pun intended) the less clumps you get. I have had this happen with Atkins shakes, but infrequently. It happens alot with Carb Options shakes however.

On a side note did you know that you can make an Atkins shake ice cold from room temperature in less than 15 minutes? All you have to do is take a container 3x bigger than the can, set the can in and fill all around it with ice. Then pour salt (about 3-4 tbsp or so) over the ice and wait. Saw this on "Myth Busters" with beer and tried it was a room temp shake. Worked like a dream.

I saw this episode too. I never tried it. I'll have to, since it actually works! I guess Adam is worth more than a human guinea pig after all!!

I have an Atkins vanilla shake every day, and have done so for over a year. Never had a clumpy one til this week! And now I've had two in a row! One shake was a month out of date, the other expires in July 05.
Neither tasted spoiled, though, and I didn't feel bad from drinking them. My guess is that they sat on the shelf too long - I bought them from Vitamin World on clearance, because they hadn't sold.
It was kinda gross though! (But I drank them anyway...)

Shake them violently.

Just went you think you look absolutely insane from shaking them, you're almost there.

Also, when I get near the bottom, I add a little water and swirl it around just to loosten and moisten any remaining powdery bits.

Love you guys!! Thanks a bunch. I was really confused. I drank it straight off the shelf, before I got it home so it was also warm. I'm gonna give them a good shake before drinking and now they're cold.

I was almost in tears over this last night. (how pathetic). I thought it was like spoiled milk LOL.

Not pathetic at all, this WOE takes a toll on people. Especially towards the beginning of the program. The first week I was a pretty grump fellow and hard to be around. Being sad over a nasty shake just "shook" you for a second. No worries.

Wal-Mart is closing out Atkins canned shakes at 4.85 per 4-pack, stock up but look at the expiry date. Anyone have an opinion about liquid vs atkins shake powder? I also fell for the powerpack shake mix sale currently on the atkins site, 4 canisters with a blender gadget for $40, that's a LOT of protein powder!

I like the liquid atkins shakes just fine, and dislike the atkins powdered mixes. the liquid ones taste much better, are more convenient, and have fewer carbs.

Also, I think the mixes might have sugar alcohol, but I'm not sure - haven't read the label in a long time.

The protien powder mix for shakes is ok if you have a very good blender or electric drink mixer and time to belnd it properly. Otherwise I prefer the pre-mixed cans. I consider shaking them up part of my daily exercise routine. :)
