Yes, before you ask I have read the book - several times. But, I wanted to know of any people here with Type 2 Diabetes who have lowered their blood sugars using the South Beach Diet.

I am just trying it out and so far (when I've been good) I've been fine. I have just switched from Atkins but I don't think there should be too much of a problem. For higher carb items I just make sure they are balanced with some good fats and protein to slow the insulin reaction.

I was just diagnosed and my sugar has dropped for myself, but I wasn't that bad in the first place, my average before was 162, now my average is 142. Just in two weeks. So I'm confident this will work :)

Please keep me informed - I would like to try South Beach but I'm used to Atkins and afraid of my bs going up. I kind of have a terrible carb fear where bs is concerned  . I was diagnosed as Type II 10 years ago and Glucophage/metformin has kept it pretty much under control. But, as I get older, I'm having to rely more and more on dietary measures and exercise  to keep it under control...

I know for me letting go of lowcarb fare has been the hardest. No bars? No lowcarb wraps - how will I survive!! ;)
I have to admit, the only difference in the way I'm eating is more veggies and less "fake food" From this point of view Atkins and South Beach look alot alike. My 2 cents :)

hi susan
i have type 2 diabetes and south beach diet ABSOLUTELY will help you control your blood sugar.
i do take medication also but even then my sugar is in the 200's if i don't eat right.
the carbs that are permitted on SB do not seem to spike or sustain a high blood sugar level. it is a great diabetic's diet!
i frequent another SB website - not sure if i'm allowed to name another site here, but i know a lot of people there have also had great success lowering and controlling their blood sugar by eating SB way.
good luck to you. hope this helps!
