Can i get your input on this one...a lady who goes to the gym with me -she's like an exercise guru or addict not sure which  --says that the sauna is good for someone wanting to lose weight,, namely me..yes, it's water weight but the same--wt. can anyone knowledgable here give me some insight on this. i like the sauna cause my muscles are relaxed after my workouts and i sleep like a baby..which is much needed due to mental stress..but wt loss too would be awesome. thanks so much!!

Well -
from a "sauna gal" ...in Finland, sauna is akin to our American showers.
I don't know of of the weight/water loss issue but had to put in my .02 because...
at least Finnish "dry" saunas are awesome for the skin, and yes, awesome for the mind. Makes you sleep well, as you mentioned...
and just for those reasons I would continue!
Interesting topic!

this is an old, old idea, and unforturnately not very useful. you get hot, sweat, lose weight because of the water loss, get dehydrated, drink and regain. not really weight loss to my mind.
but the relaxing effects of saunas, oh my yes.

Yes, you will lose "weight" for the duration of the sauna, and until you start drinking water again. Then it will come back because your body knows how much water it needs to operate.
If you need to fit into your designer dress for the Oscars, or if you need to make weight for tonight's wrestling match, then yes, sauna-for-weight-loss is one option. If you are hoping to lose weight sustainably, for the rest of your life, and really want the fat gone more than the water, then the sauna won't help you with that.
Will help with all the rest, and being more relaxed and sleeping better and everything will have it's own + effect on weight loss. You just won't see it on tomorrow's scale.
