It is THE BEST low carb ice cream going. But major beware, the chocolate is so good portion control might be an issue!!!

I find it is so rich and creamy and there is no "spenda" aftertaste at all, IMO.

Doesn't cause me the "problems" you might be referring to (the gasto type ones caused by sugar alcohols).

Also, no trans fats in the Breyer's!

It tastes GREAT, but not worth it. I never lose when I eat that stuff. But for a once a in a great while treat, go for it! get the ZERO carb one if possible. But, yes, the 4 carb one tastes better. but WHO can just eat HALF A CUP?!! NOT ME!!! I eat 1 to 2 cups...EASY!!!!

It's ok...if you want an even better ice cream you should definitely try the Dreyers CarbBenefit ice cream - the chocolate is super rich and creamy and hasn't caused a single problem plus it's only 3 net grams of carbs per serving.

Moonwalker: I believe LeCarb has been discontinued. I do not see it at Super Wal-Marts anymore.

Am I the only one who is sugar alcohol sensitive? I cannot tolerate Sorbitol :tears:

It is great, I love it. I've also tried the Breyers "Cal Smart" ice cream it is lower in calories, fat and is the same amount of carbs as the Breyers carb smart ice cream, so just because of it being lower in calories and fat I have decided to eat the "Cal Smart", I should've said it is lower in calories and fat compared to the "carb smart" ice cream carb smart ice cream has 130 calories per serving and the cal smart has 70 calories per serving, can't remember the fat amount but it too was lower. :)

There are a lot of good low carb ice creams out there. I have to agree with something JENIJENI said... I tend to stop losing weight when I add LC ice cream to my menu. Even if that's the only thing I add. I don't overeat the ice cream, either, so I think it's the sugar alcohol. I might lose slowly, but it's so slow, I don't notice weight loss.

Bryer's Sugar Smart, which came out recently, is very good.

It is Polydextrose/Maltodextrin-based, which leads to higher carb count on the label, but you should count these similar to how you count sugar alcohols -- either not at all (because of slow absorption) or by their absorption levels ( roughly 1/4 sugar -- so under this system 4 grams of polydextrose would equal 1 net carb )

Their Carb Smart ice crem has lots of saturated fat. =/ I know some people only hate trans fats -- but seriously saturated fat does the same thing.

HMMMMMMMM thanks for the info. Its interesting.

I got my blood work back. When I started this WOL, my cholesterol was 243, LDL 120, HDL 52 and trigs 320!!!!! After 3.5 months, cholesterol dropped to 225, LDL went up tto 145 HDL went up to 57 and trigs dropped to 116!!

I wonder if eating more sat fat makes my LDL go up? IS this true?

I may try the sugar smart and see how it is.

Vicki :)

Their Carb Smart ice crem has lots of saturated fat. =/ I know some people only hate trans fats -- but seriously saturated fat does the same thing.Actually I should clarify here -- I get this mixed up a lot because I'm dumb. XD Polydextrose is a low-absorption carbohydrate and works much like polyols. It's an excellent additive for low-carb foods. You don't have to count it if you're doing a polyols-don't-count-type calculation, or you can count it as 1/4.

Maltodextrin on the other hand is a 4-calorie-per-gram carbohydrate and you should count that as "real" carbs as it will cause a glycemic response.

Unfortunately the label on the "SugarSmart" ice cream doesn't tell you how many of the "other" carbs are from polydextrose, and how many are from maltodextrin. Polydextrose appears first in the ingredients list, however. I'm not sure however, they may be counting it as "fiber". It's confusing.

Also on the ingredient list is glycerine, which does not cause a glucose spike (although it is still fully metabolized -- just slowly).

I recommend that the vanilla SugarSmart ice cream be counted as 6 net carbs per serving just to be safe (assuming they're counting the Polydextrose as fiber, and 1 of the grams of "other" carbs is glycerine), or 7 net carbs in worst-case scenario (using the "regular" method of counting). In reality it could be as little as 5.

Not as good a carb count as the CarbSmart ice cream -- but it's ALMOST as good and it has way less artery-clogging stuff and less total energy content by far.
