type 1 diabetes & fungus infection

[Henry Kole]

Is there a Dr. and lab in Dallas that has is good at culturing
and identifying a fungus and treating the infection. Diflucan
doesn't work. thanks

where is the infection located? in the feet get to a
podiatrist. elsewhere on the skin see a dermatologist.

I had frequent recurring fungal troubles too.... until I found
out I was diabetic and got my sugar down. Then they all went
away. Maybe you still have a BG problem too??

It a vicious circle, can't get the BG down because of fungus.
Increasing insulin results in low BG but the fungus won't go
away. No doctors in Oklahoma City or Tulsa seem to have enough
knowledge or experience with fungus to do any good and that

I have been plagued with fungus problems for years. I know how
little the docs know about them. It seems that many want to
avoid the issue.

Many are afraid of the internal drugs. Like some of our
diabetic meds they can be bad news for the liver.

A fungal infection in the big tow probably led to my
osteomyliis and leg ;loss.

Recently I went to my doc and asked to take a round of these
drugs, I said I was willing to take the risk. I have been on a
fungal drug for several months and my remaining leg with a
long time problem has approached normal.

Check with me in six months to see if I survive. The doc has
run frequent liver work , which is necessary.

There are several antifungal drugs and the most highly
advertised one touted for finger nails did not work

You have to find the proper doc to
handle these problems. I went to
one a couple of weeks ago and he
threw a fit over my use of them.

Diabetic are prone to fungal infections.

Best to stay out of the sources of them like health
clubs., etc.

Remember I am not a doc and I only have experience with one
case. MINE.

In my case most of the older drugs were not effective See a
good doc for medical advice..

Have a talk to your pharmacist, for starters. There are quite
a few options to try before you resort to the more dangerous
drugs. As was mentioned, many of those are very hard on the
liver, (including Diflucon), and once taking them, frequent
monitoring of liver enzymes is required. I get good results
from nilstatin when treating candida albicans, although I have
to have a prescription for the oral variety if needed (like
after a course of antibiotics). That particular fungus lives
in the digestive tract, but can infect other orifices, and
even the skin. Once "knocked down", the best management
practice is ingesting pro-biotics, which keep it in line.

Diabetics are very prone to fungal infections, of many kinds
and in various parts of the body. They just love our sweet
blood. If, as you implied, you are a female, then any oral
contraceptives or HRT also favour it's growth.

As someone else mentioned, getting bg levels as close as you
can to non-diabetic levels helps a lot.

Have you discussed this with your regular doctor? I believe
most are very good with this kind of thing.

Guy There's a Dr. Gott column in the local paper who suggests
home remedies. A bar of soap under the sheets if you get calf
cramps, I tried it and it works. But the cause was Lipitor and
I quit it and the soap. The other one he mentions is Vicks
Vapor Rub on toenail fungus and the testimonials are all
supportive, and its supposed to work fast. Have you hear or
tired it? BTW the fungus problem is not mine but I volunteered

If it's the infection I am thinking it is then her partner
needs to be treated at the same to make the treatment
effective. Vicks Vapor rub on the finger, lol, that allows for
some pretty painful incidents if not careful :)
