Hi

I have just started my low carb diet yesterday, but am finding it hard due to the fact I am vegetarian. Is there any books/help for vegetarians on low carb diets? :help:

Welcome, tillykate!

Being a veggie on a LC diet is challenging, but it can be done.

I don't know of any books, but here are a few web sites you may find helpful. Many include LC vegetarian recipes. The first two posts are on this forum:

I think it is harder than challenging. I think it is nearly impossible. Atkins Induction - absolutely impossible.

But good luck!

There is a vegetarian section here on the board. You might check out that area for help from some experienced folk.

I've been meatless for one week and I have to say it's been miserable. I'm eating eggs, cheeses and fish twice -- but I have very little energy and I feel hungry all the time. I mean ALL THE TIME. Of course, I'm not an experienced vegetarian but am just trying to conform to the Lenten Fast.

Dear mammac-5,

Why not increase your intake of nuts for Lent - they are full of protein. Also you could try shakes made with whey protein powder. Can you get 'quorn' products where you are? They are made for vegetarians, the sausages are quite good and very low in carbs.

It might also be an idea to make some cookies using almond flour and eggs.

I personally know several people who follow atkins, including a strict induction, being TOTALLY vegetarian. It is seriously not very hard at all if you like eggs. :yum: ;)

do a google search for the name Mike Mahler.. he is a bodybuilder and a fitness writer. He has a website and is a vegetarian, has written articles about it.

I'm not a vegetarian but I love Morningstar products and they're made for vegtarians. They make meatless sausages (which I love), meatless bacon and all kinds of stuff. They are relatively low in carbs, my sausages are about 1 carb a piece, and filled with protein. Good Luck!

I just wanted to say hello and welcome to another vegetarian. I hate eggs and I do this just fine. They have made it so easy these days with Morningstar farms and whatnot.

hey, i'm a vegetarian as well. have been doing just fine on an atkins-based WOE for about three years now. it's not hard at all, and in maintainence, i allow more carbs because as a veg, i naturally eat less fat (dr. atkins spoke of this adjustment once maintainence is reached).

induction, for me, didn't last long (as you can see from my stats), so i can't help you much there. but i did depend a lot on eggs, and slightly broke the rules with a few nuts here and there (no peanuts). all the meat-free products were essential to me.
